Hi,
How to set DNS manually for wlan?
FYI, I am using wireless router but I need the DNS to set in the end user device.
Thanks in advance.
Try this
Settings -> Wireless control -> Wireless (where u can see list of available access point)
Press the MENU button and click ADVANCED
Here you set Manual IP and DNS. Cheers

So on desktop computers this is easy, just open up browser set up your proxy servers and done.
The only settings I can see that set up proxies on the kaiser are for GRPS/Dial-up/3G. But that's already set by my cell provider and it doesn't require a proxy (to my knowledge)
But I'd like to be able to access my home proxy when I'm using wi-fi (at home or away from home) I just can't find a way to set it in the system.
If anyone knows please let me know.
Thanks
i wish to know the answer as well
In Settings, Connections you can set up two Automatic connections 'Internet' & 'Private'. Typically these are 'My ISP' and 'My Work Network'. In the Private network settings you can specify your proxy. You then need to edit your WiFi settings for your Home WiFi - change the 'Connects to:' to 'Work' (as opposed to The Internet). When you connect to your home WiFi it should use the proxy specified.
Be careful with ActiveSync or Sync Centre as this can change these settings each time your device connects to your PC (change the connection settings in ActiveSync/Sync Centre on the PC so that the option 'This computer is connected to:' is NOT set to 'Automatic'.
Windows Mobile also supports Proxy Auto Detection as well. If this is the same as Windows proxy auto detection then it relies on either DHCP being configured to send Option 252 with the URL of the Proxy script and/or DNS with a host record or alias for the WPAD host in the devices domain - i.e. wpad.network.com.

I am using a WM6.1 and I cant connect on the wireless connection in my university. The reason for that is inorder to connect on that university network, I need to make the WM to autodetect the proxy settings. Or atleast manually write them.
Excuse my lack of information on the matter, but inorder to log on the network using my laptop for example, I had to check the autodetect proxy settings in my browser, and then it asked me for a password and a user name every time I try to surf the net. How to do that using my PPC?
go inte settings > connections tab > connections then under my work network press the set up my proxy server link and from there you should be able to enter all the details you need similarly to your uni's settings.

thanks dude,
fixed, just had to untick the proxy settings
How is it possible to add an exception in the proxy list.
For example in Windows XP, you go to:
Start -> Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab -> LAN Setting -> Advanced, and you get whats attached.
How do you add this address into an exception on Windows Mobile 6.1 (I'm using a Sony Xperia X1 with IT-Touch v7.1).
Many thanks..

Go to Settings, Connections, Advanced and open the Exceptions list. You can then enter URLs that you don't want to go via a proxy for. This works in conjunction with your current Data Connection or WiFi. The logic seems to be - If you have a WiFi connection active and it is set to 'Connects to: Work' then the URLs will be connected to directly over that WiFi connection. If the WiFi is set to 'Connects to: The Internet' then a VPN connection to your Work will be attempted over the WiFi (assuming you have one defined?). If you have a HSDP/3G/GPRS connection active then a VPN connection will also be attempted but over the active HSDP/3G/GPRS.
The URL list doesn't just work for HTML pages via IE, if any application attempts to locate a host that is in the URL list it follows the same logic as above - unless it has it's own hook-ins to the OS and forces a connection itself.
I have only one entry in my URL list and that is the DNS domain name of my Work network - '*.work.domain/'. This seems to work well for me.
That's my experience of it anyway.

I am trying to connect to an ad-hoc WiFi network, but it seems like the general instructions for this don't apply on the WIldfire, since there is no tiwlan.ini just to start.
Has anyone succeeded in connecting to an ad-hoc network? The only WiFi network I can use at the moment is an ad-hoc one, so I have no choice...
Confusing question. First you said cannot, then you said you can. BTW what specifically is meant by ad-hoc network?

I am not saying I can connect to an ad-hoc network, where do you read that?
I read somewhere that you can't connect to ad-hoc networks yet. I can't either.
Peraphs your wireless card supports Managed (Ap) mode ?
I just got it working:
* Add your ad hoc network via Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi settings -> Add Wi-Fi network
* add the line "ap_scan=2" to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
* add the line "mode=1" to your network's section in /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Your final result will look like this:
Code:
ctrl_interface=eth0
update_config=1
ap_scan=2
network={
ssid="Ad Hoc"
mode=1
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
priority=41
}
This gives me a working connection. I don't know if this is a permanent solution, I haven't tried it out after a reboot, but for now it is enough for me.
how do you do that? i tryied byt isn't working. i set up adhoc wifi, but in wildfire seems to be out of range even if i'm near laptop
I am using software Connectify. Setup Connectify into the PC. Turn on wifi. Next ... next ... You must click on the Connection icon in your taskbar at the bottom. Select Open Network and Sharing Center. Click Connections wifi. Choose Details. You should see the IPv4 Address.
Then open your phone, press Menu -> Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Open and select Wi-Fi WiFi Settings -> Select the broadcast station name that you noted above, type the password and click Connect. Then press Menu -> Advanced -> Check Use static IP entries
IP address: x.x.x.y type (using the same IP range x.x.x.x means that the first three numbers, the other end of the IP v4)
Gateway: x.x.x.x (as in the ip address v4)
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
DNS1: 8.8.8.8
DNS2: 8.8.4.4
thanks a lot, i finally got to connect to my adhoc... still, internet sharing is not working
Whats all this hassle with messing files?
I just wen't to CyanoGenMod, started the ad-hoc network with my notebook (win7), connected my Wildfire and its working like a charm.
"I just got it working:

Hi Cumulus007.
How you changed this file?
I have changed the file in PC and copy to wildfire via sdcard, so I have bricked the wireless and used Recovery setings from factory.
Then I ask for the process you have used.
Thanks in avance.
Is it possible to change the ip address on my phone? It is clashing with other hardware on my network that has the same static ip.
no idea BUT BUT BUT your network should not be dishing out a clashing IP address.
Fix your DHCP settings on your router (I'm guessing) so it excludes the IP address that you're clashing with. Heck I'd just exclude the entire range that I use for static IPs.
Seriously though any DHCP server that is not a piece of junk will try a ping first and if something's already taking up an IP address it will not allocate it.
I was hopping for an easy fix because I just got my network working the way I want. My Droid is clashing with my security can system I can change the IP address on the cam but then I will have to go to 6 mobile devices and change the settings.
I will check my router like you suggested. Thanks.

All you have to do (in ICS, should be same for JB) is go to settings --> Wi-Fi --> long press on network you want to edit --> select modify network --> scroll down to "show advanced options" and check --> scroll down to IP settings and change from DHCP to Static --> scroll down to "IP address" and change.
