Is there anyway to have the N1 automatically add custom words used in text fields to the user's dictionary.
My Hero did this automatically, its very frustrating to repeat these words on a daily basis.
Thanks
No, you have to long press on the word to save it. While this may seem like a PITA, the downside to the other approach is it saves words that you don't necessarily want to save. I agree it would be nice if it was a setting. I also wish there was an easy way to import/export/edit the user dictionary.
Edit is easy. Import export can be done with some backup progs.
I always hated losing it when new Romming.
any suggestions for a backup app?
The built-in editor is ok, but I wish I could grab a file from the phone and edit it on my PC as a text file or csv or something.

Gotcha. That would be easier. Let you just add a ton of words rapidly.

be sure to clear out you text threads the get to big and your phone will act funny also turn your phone of and on every day helps out a lot
Yes, this is most likely a problem with too many text messages. After you get to 200-300, the phone really starts lagging.
Reset those and see how you do.
You should download the app from the market "txtract". It lets you extract your text messages to your sd card so you can delete them from your phone but still keep the ones you want to save.

good advice some people dont want to lose some of there text messages.
yeah, but don't be so hasty to delet your messages until you make sure it's right for you cuz the app has three options of extracting, xml, csv i think and html I extracted it using xml and wasn't too pleased,i haven't tried csv and html ain't avalaible yet
html hasn't been developed, although the option is there...
anyway to delete txt by selecting multiple threads? or do i have to do one by one thread at a time

Hi jkiller,
I noticed that the XML had a bug in it, "not closing the <SMS> tag at the right spot", hence a new release came out right away. Please take a look at that one.
The beauty of XML is that, it can be converted to anything. And it would be so soo cool, if Android had any XSLT support. Now, trying to find a better way around the proper XML -> HTML conversion of the extracted/exported SMS messages.
CSV is "comma separated values", for the ones who might be thinking what the heck is CSV.
hey oz
I checked out the new version but I still have a problem with xml,for some reason it keeps confusing me with another contact,i have the papa johns number o my phone and it confuses some of my text with papa johns lol, plus im pretty new to reading xml format and would like a much simpler way of reading them if Im going to delete them off my phone which I think html mode will be when it comes out, anyway thanks for the update.

Does the same problem exist in the CSV export?
By the way, you can open the XML file in Word. It gives a pretty outline of the document, with opening/closing tags.
I'm trying to mess with my sms db to make a similar situation happen, with no luck so far.
it might not be just the text messages; there are alot of things that can bog down the phones memory:
- Cache especially from browser, youtube, maps, and market
- Applications especially games
Check how much memory you have by going to;
Settings->sd card & phone storage and check internal phone storage
- can see how much space an application takes by going to:
Settings-> application -> manage applications
*press menu to sort by size
you can clear the data of pre installed apps (that came with the phone) like the browser and market
**DONT clear data for myfavs or settings**
* if you have root you can save you browser cache and market cache to sdcard by going to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443336
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444294
Is there any way 2 clear market cache ? Reason being I do not have root anymore. Effin rc30... there is no " clear data" in manage applications for market
is there any software that will make my Pictures in my phone (that I don't want anyone esle to see), invisble and or hide them....
You could hide them. Use a file explorer with a little more functions than the embedded one and well.. hide them. Use resco or total commander (free) choose the file and change the file attributes to hidden. It is not hard to find hidden files, but it might be good enough.
Strange request btw.

I couldnt stop laughing when i saw your comment. Lol My GF photos are well kept from curious eyes
If you want to 100% hide photos, videos, documents you should try Best Crypto
www.smartphoneware.com/crypto-for-windows-mobile-product.php
Maybe someone should make a program to hide files and photos or somehow password protect them, most software encrypts which creates the time consuming hassle of decrypting when you need to access them, somehow be able to access with a single password that opends the folder for viewing.
Im very surprised it isnt intergrated into an image viewer (Splash Photo does it somewhat)
on the device the default ones that come on the phone ?
They are in /etc, but you can't just add new books if that is your intention.
You would have to edit some database, but I am not completely sure which one, and add a separate entry for every book.
Copying the books from the device works fine, they are epubs.
Edit: The database is /data/data/com.htc.ereader/databases/ereader.db
Edit2: I was just going to write a dirty little app that adds books to the database when I realized, that there is an "Import" function in the reader ;-;
Hello,
Can you tell me where is this book import, because my only visible options are to download and buy books from kobo.
Thanks in advance.
Switch to the list view of the books, press menu and select "Import Books"
My only options in this view are sort, delete and accounts. In any type of view don't have option like import or something wich add a book from the phone.
Maybe it changed in the Gingerbread update?
You can try my apk (attached).
In Gingerbread maybe is changed, but i'm with stock 2.2. Thanks about the apk but it says "cannot parsing the package"

A pity.
Well if you are rooted you can manually edit the database (/data/data/com.htc.ereader/databases/ereader.db) and add entries for your own books there.
I would recommend Root Explorer & SQLite Editor for this, but it is still very uncomfortable if you want to add a large amount of books.
A stupid bug in S Memo deleted all my existing memos!!
To replicate this:
1. create two folders, say "folder1" and "folder2", and create a couple memo pages in each of these folders.
2. in root directory (i.e. "S Memo"), create a pile, say "pile1"
3. use Move function to move all pages in "pile1" into the folder "folder1". now only folders and an empty pile in root directory (but no memo in root directory).
4. at root directory long-press "pile1" to delete this empty pile
5. confirm at the message "The pile will be deleted"
6. all my existing memos, including those moved pages inside "folder1" and any other folders (including those protected with PIN) are now gone!!!
this bug (#6 above) happens when there are only folders but no memo directly in the root directory.
written by a furious GNote user.
ok, thanks for the feedback, now i know what i shouldn't do.
Thanks for pointing this bug out.
How on earth did you find this? Is this something most S Memo users will encounter, or do we really have to look for it, like you did? Does this only affect rooted users?
I really don't want to find this bug. I noticed this bug because I lost all my memos while I was taking notes in a meeting!
ps. My device is not rooted, and I regret this. With root + titanium backup, I may have had my own backup.

If so, maybe I should try sync with Google Doc, even though the content will be converted to an image.

Google note sync works great. Have been using it well .
Titanium works with S-Memo - somewhat

Just found out that if you open and edit a note the content re-appears - so it is saved and restored with Titanium, but has to be recreated from the dataset. I have so many memos that I wish there was a quicker way to restore them than to open each one.
Anyone tried saving them to a Dropbox folder?

Sorry.. wrong thread.. delete
@cyman777 Excellent find!
With the more recent software revisions S-Note can sync to Evernote by the way. Since I don't have an Evernote account, I cannot say if notes get converted to an image as (reportedly) the case when syncing to Google or if they get synced in their native format.

Though I have surprisingly lost all my notes TWICE as well, i tried to replicate the process as you described but all the folders & the files inside are still existing this time! Nothing has been deleted after deleting the last empty pile & while making sure there are no individual notes on the root! So i think this bug does exist, but may have nothing to do with single notes on root or not! Please advice if you have found an explanation or a solution to this serious problem!
Life changing!
This happened to me twice, resulting in me not wanting to use the S Memo app anymore.
Lost a good ~30 sketches the first time and a lot of notes the second time.
I cant trust this app anymore, and it was so close to being that one thing i always needed.....
What were you doing messing about with the root directory in the first place. Surely it's not a bug but more a user created error!
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note using XDA Premium app.
root directory of S-Memo, not / (=root) in the filesystem structure. Hence an application bug, not a user created error.
Did any of you already report it to Samsung? Otherwise it wont get fixed anyway...
#Tapatalk #Galaxy Note
confirm
It just happened to me. 100 sketches and notes, neatly organised in piles, all gone. I am an architect so I sketch not just for fun. I have filled many physical sketchbooks over many years until last fall when my dream gadget was introduced by samsung, with S-Memo being the one killer application that tells the whole story of the device.
So the Note is a device that you can draw on with a pen and every now and then it deletes everything you drew.
I am running out of words for this.
- sync methods -
I just posted a similar sync alternative in one of my threads a few days ago, which can be used for S-MEMO as well:
This is my workaround for *in this case* S-Memo:
You need:
- A Dropbox account
- A Dropbox sync app like Dropsync (link)

Sadly S-Memo seems not to store the drawings in an easy to find folder (please tell me if i´m wrong!), Note Everthing makes it easier here...it places a folder on your SD Card, which contains every single note you take (JPEGs, textfiles, Soundfiles etc.).
What I´m doing is the following: Every here and then, I´m exporting my sketches in PDF converted files (just hit the menu button in the "root directory" of s-memo and you´ll see what I mean). Now all your sketches will be saved automatically to your s-memo folder on the internal SD card. And here the content of my thread again:
I´m autosyncing this folder to my Dropbox via Dropsync...and voila, here we are, I´m happy!

Of course, there is GDocs as well (and it works well)...but I like it more to have my sketches on my desktop when I´m at home without having to visit the browser and download my stuff again.
I am developing a graphical password for android phones. After clicking on certain points on an image, the pixel positions should get stored in the internal memory of the phone or in a file, so that next time the user signs in, the values that the user puts can be compared with stored values. The values stored should not get erased. How do i go about this? Any function? ( Developing in eclipse)
You 'll find your way through surface view and open gl es it can provide x y cordinates of piont of touch see developer.android.com

First of all, welcome to XDA!
Second, you may want to take a look at http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/data-storage.html. I do not recommend writing the coordinates to a file on the internal/external storage of a phone (unless encrypted somehow) because anyone could easily look at it. Hope this helps!

So you put the coordinates into a database?
Well, you can also look up all values from a sqlite database: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.andsen.asqlitemanager
Encrypt them.
yeah..put them in database, once u pull the file from the device, i can read it using the sqlite browser.. Its working fine for the application. Encryption yet to be done. Just a novice
