only wake to wake it power? - Nexus One General

Is there really not another way to wake up the phone? I hate having to press the power button every time it goes to sleep. Very awkward for how I hold the phone... am I missing something amazingly simple?

You're correct; at this time it's the only way given to unlock the Nexus One. However, custom ROMs are able to circumvent this. Additionally, as with Android 1.5 on the G1, there may be updates to the unlock feature to smooth it out.

Hope there is a tap screen to wake up method as well, as pressing the button gets a bit annoying on the move

+1
I'd like to see this too. Maybe a double tap to wake it up to the lock-screen.

Cool, just wanted to make sure i was not missing something simple. I was pressing, holding, double tapping everything. This seems mildly retarded for such a great phone.

is it possible to Make the Evo's Volume Rocker as the On/off Button

Hey guys, do you think its possible to make the evo's volume rocker as the on/off button, because the samsung galaxy S the on/off button is on the side which is very convient spot, because you can turn on/off your phone without extending your thumb or finger all the way to the top of the device like our devices "evo", can this be dont on a software tweak?
Download "No Lock" from the marketplace. It disables the screen lock but also lets you wake up your Evo by hitting the volume up or down buttom. To turn the screen off, you'll still have to hit the power button though. Works well for me. YMMV.
+1 NoLock works like a charm

EVO fully rooted fresh

Mhmm, i guess this will do for a while, hopefully someone here, will make it happen someday.... thanks for telling me this " No lock " app
no lock also sorta makes up for the lack of a physical silence switch... if hte phones in my pocket, i just click the volume down button once and then hold it until it vibrates and then hit the power button once. much easier than messing with the screen without looking at it =D
Lockout also does this, and you can customize your lockscreen.
I couldn't find lockout in the Market, and I like the slide to unlock I just don't want to have to reach up to the power button when the vol. buttons are there and should wake to unlock too. I'd pay for that tweak.

Thanks for that, sadly i cant root my evo right, cuz i did the recent ota update

Hard to press (power) buttons

Hi all,
I heard a lot of people complain about the hard to (press power) buttons.
Logically is the main reason why htc makes hard to press (power) buttons is to avoid acitentally turning the device on/off while its in your pocket or wathever.
So why not make good easy to press CAPACTIVE (power) HARDWARE buttons.
I think that should solve a lot of problems
Please share your opinions about this!
A capacitive power button would lead to people triggering it every time they put their hand in their pocket to get it if they so much as brush against it.
It's not that hard to press anyway.
edit: No to mention if you hold the phone in landscape mode the button would then rest against your palm, again triggering it.
a capacitive power button wont be enabled if u switched the device off.. how are you gonna start your phone then .. thats why its a physical button
i have no problem with the power button, i like it. was using a hd2 before and on this device the power button was the same like the [call end] button. and that drained my battery always. sometimes you sitting in a tight seat like on a airplaine and you alway acciedently hit the button or even by walking arround or if you have other stuff in your pocket.
It would have been nice if we could get an option to also use the volume down button to turn the screen on.

Next time please just name the app, makes it a lot easier, and saves a lot of searching.
Anyway, I found it on my own, and the app is called "No Lock". Best thing of all, it's free in the market!
This app will disable the lock screen, and thus wakes up immediately without having to unlock. Also, now you can wake the phone up with the volume button.
widget locker can also power on with volume button, and its very customizable but its not free, well worth the cost tho

Screen Lock & Freeze w/ Camera+Left

In trying to set up controls for a game, I found a very unhappy button combination. If the camera button is fully depressed while holding the left key on the hardware keyboard, the screen will lock and usually freeze the phone. Another user who tried to replicate this for me got an unresponsive camera app that required a reboot.
What are other users' mileage here? Anybody have any ideas on a workaround, or is this probably just a hardware quirk?
i tried every diff combination of left and the camera button, and did not have the same experience. i do know that if your in the camera app, and press power, it does lock the phone, but i think it is supposed to. pressing the power button a second time unfreezes it. imma do more research. i read something about this once on ppcg.
i found this.may or may not be the same thing for your friends.
"hey folks For those of you experiencing a lock-up while in camera mode, I thought it happened to me the other day as well, turns out its not a bug its user error. If you try to turn off the screen while in camera/video mode by hitting the screen lock button you are locking the camera mode, which mean you are making it so that the phone does not accept any inputs aside from unlocking by hitting the power/ screen unlock button again. This "lock mode" is indicated by lock icon appearing in the top corner of the screen. The reason for this screen unlock button again. This "lock mode" is indicated by lock icon appearing in the top corner of the screen. The reason for this mode is actually good, if you are filming something important you don't a finger slip hitting the back/home buttons and ruining your video, so you can lock it and not worry about it. Of course this means if you don't know about the feature and you activate it, instant freak out. But, now you know mode is actually good, if you are filming something important you don't a finger slip hitting the back/home buttons and ruining your mode is actually good, if you are filming something important you don't a finger slip hitting the back/home buttons and ruining your video, so you can lock it and not worry about it. That may have something to do with it, but is not the problem I am having. When I am somewhere outside of the camera app (homescreen or game, for example) if I hold the left arrow key and fully depress the camera button, the screen will turn off and make the lock sound. Usually I can unlock it with the power button or this combinaton again, but it will occasionally freeze and refuse to accept input from the touchscreen or capacitive buttons.
(If it's at all helpful, I was trying to set up the camera button as the R shoulder button in SNESdroid.)
It could be that the phone is getting confused and thinks I'm trying to lock the camera app, but since I'm not in the app it locks the entire phone.
I just did it while reading your post lol I can confirm it freaks out lol

[Guide] Anti pocket unlock tweak

New guy here!
I'm from holland and I have a 2009 hd2 which is currently running AOKP Milestone 5 SE
So this is my first guide and i'll start with something simple.
Eliminating those frustrating pocket unlocks and the screen turning on in your pocket which drains your battery.
The easiest option is to start using your volume rocker as a unlock button and removing all the front button mappings for waking your phone.
Your power button is still your lock button though.
1. Find out if your rom has any special rom options (e.g. rom control, some toolbox, cynogen mod options etc)
2. Go through those options and try to find something with volume wake, it's probably under lockscreen options.
3. If you have found the option enable it, if not you have to download WidgetLocker in the market it comes with the option in it.
4. Once you've tested it we can begin with disabling the front keys by downloading ButtonRemapper in the market.
5. Now when you're in the app, you are seeing a list of key numbers with their name and function behind it. key number 116 is the only one you need to keep on its original state, it is for the power button when the phone is unlocked.
6. Start by clicking a key and putting its state in NONE and press ok, now do this for the remaining keys, EXCLUDING 116.
7. Hit the apply button and see your hd2 hot rebooting
8. When the phone comes to its senses again, try it out!
Lock with your power button
Unlock with your volume rocker.
It almost feels like a modern android phone with the lock/unlock button on the top or side.
I hope you like it, because I really do!

Nice guide! Very similiar to my original mod here but you make it a bit more simplified xD
After removing WAKE and WAKE_DROPPED from the keys, clicking buttons doesn't wake the screen (as expected), but lights the buttons, and they stay lit forever (i.e. until the next unlock/lock).
Do you also experience the same thing? Any solution?

Yes this is normal, caused by a gpio wake lock from the kernel. No solution yet, I personally don't care as it drains a lot less battery than having your screen come on

gpio don't need wakelocks in kernel, when interrupt is raised, cpu exits suspend and services the raised gpio interrupt. This is problem with bad coding logic of the key's backlight driver, i will see what can be done in some days (really busy atm).

This is still kernel related though right? as it deals with the driver? And you really dont have to work on it its not that big of a deal, put it on lowwwww priority you do amazing work here so as it is
the most important thing is to not keep anything else metal and/or hard, in your pocket with the hd2. Items like batteries or keys

This idea is awesome, thank you!
I've customized it a little bit to save my power button (and so my touchscreen connector).
I've set all my hardware buttons to power, but without wake property.
Now, I can:
Lock with any hardware button
Unlock with volume rocker.
thanks a lots aha

quick launch camera

What is the quick launch mechanism on the g6 for the camera
Supposed to be Volume down twice with screen off or locked. Haven't really been successful using mine yet.

Works for me.
am on G600L10i
This is one of the few things I don't like about my G6, I wish there was a way to quick launch the camera whether the screen is on or not. Every other phone (well, most), have this function.
Heck, let me double click the power button or something...come.on LG.
With screen on... Hit the power button, hit volume down button twice. Takes less than one second to launch camera.
Screen off just hit volume down twice.

@skyfox99 I known I can do that, just takes too long as you can't immediately hit the volume down twice after power, you have to wait a sec, otherwise it just comes up to lock screen.
Defeats the term, "quick launch".

I can launch it in less than a second. That's pretty quick to me and works from any screen... Quicker if you haven't AOD disabled. Instant launch would be nice if that's what you're referring to like a dedicated button or something. Although I had an old Windows Mobile HTC Tilt that had that and the camera was always getting launched in my pocket.

Well, good for you I guess. If I hit power while the screen is on and immediately double tap the volume down it just goes to the lock screen, essentially just wakes the phone up. Only if I pause briefly after tapping power does it actually work.
Works for you, great, good for you. It doesn't work for me.
Again, would prefer another method. Heck, just give me the option for the volume down double to tap to work with the screen on, that would do it.
