Registration is open for this years Google IO conference.
The conference dates are set as May 19th and 20th and is held at the Mascone Center in San Francisco.
They are offering registration at a discounted price for a limited time (through April 16).
Early bird price (until 4/16) $400 USD
List price (starting 4/17) $500 USD
Academia (Student, Faculty) $100 USD
Most of you know that last year they gave a HTC Ion to those that attended.
I've been searching but unfortunately have not come across any information stating that they are doing the same this year.
See you there?

I hope not. The ION is still better than the MT3G but I don't think that it's worth the $400 now as it was last year. It would be nice (however unlikely) if they gave away a Nexus. Ohhhhh boy I would just love to be a fly on the wall for those that bought the Nexus at $500 when they could have got it for $400 (only $100 for students!). Most people probably wouldn't travel just to see a conference because of airfare and hotel accommodations. But I live about a half hour away so hell... I could drive there everyday for the convention and it wouldn't bother me so I'm considering it. But being honest here, I probably won't if they don't give a way a phone. I'm not a dev or programmer or anything like that. But for anyone interested I do have a hookup at a hotel but it's about a half hour drive away. It would probably be a little cheaper than staying at SF, but you'd have to rent a car and pay for the bridge toll so it probably wouldn't be worth it.
(Oh crap! 1,000 posts! LOL.)

im willing to bet they will give out an engineering Nexus One similar to the one given out to google employees.
EDIT: Google I/O Twitter has confirmed there are NO PLANS for any dev phone giveaways to attendees this year!

I guess I won't be going afterall. Too bad too because I heard that last years conference was a HUGE success. I wonder why.
They also didn't have plans to come out with a "Google Phone", look how that turned out
I am willing to bet that Google will be providing gifts for developers in efforts...
Hello,
I am willing to bet that Google will be providing gifts for developers in efforts to slam Apple iPhone. Currently Apple has two major strong arms in the mobile arena: iPone application market is HUGH, and Microsoft Exchange integration, and all with simplicity to the end user. Google wants to compete, they will continue to provide developers the tools needed to compete, and giving away top of the line phones is one way to ramp up development of Android. I remember the iPhone when it was released and no SDK roadmap existed, consumers did not care so much about a smart phone with too many limitations. Now, well after SDK roadmap the iPhone became top market share for smart phones, and the credit should go to developers creating applications that provide the end user with options and ease of use.
This year at Google IO, I am guessing that everyone will receive a Nexus One, along with disclosure of new plans for Exchange integration options.
Does anyone know if there is a group to organize with for Google IO, last year I went all by my self, I love going to these events but it is always better with a larger group to compare and discuss the event.
Did they provide Ions for students who got in for only $100 admission? If so, that's an AWESOME deal.

For what he paid he definitely overpaid. Retail is $450, so he paid $225 to get it less than two weeks early. He could have gotten the hotspot for more than 7 months for the same amount, or put that towards two years of the extra $10/mo. Either way, he better be totally happy with his purchase.
I get mine this Friday. I see you have that Google I/O informational form in your pic. Is that included in the phone's packaging?
The reason i ask is because I asked my seller about that form and he said that he didn't have it. he said that it might be packaged with the phone itself. He never opened the phone's packaging. So I told him that I'd just find out when i receive it.

Well it depends on where he would have gotten the phone from. Sprint $450..you can say he probably overpaid, $500 RS....you can say he overpaid, BB...I don't think he overpaid. i think its a great deal if you think about it.
Free everything for a month, no contract....etc.
And plus I'm sure there will be big shortage of these phones when they release. I stopped at the bestbuy by my house earlier today and the Rep there told me that this is the biggest preorder they ever had. I'm not sure if he was just talking about this particular store or Bestbuy in general. Just like the Incredible and the iPad this will be backordered. And if you think paying $670 is too much ....wait until June 4th
I think if you really want the phone, you saved up for the phone or whatever if you got the money then go ahead and get it. Because getting one on the 4th is not guaranteed.
Not to reign on some peoples parades of cost, but depending on the store, they may not sell you a phone off contract. I Lou of holding out for new customers and upgrades. Happened to me when I wanted a pre had to hold out a month for when online orders came around
For what is worth, there is a 10% off coupon for bestbuy, the current one expires TODAY but hopefully there will be a new one soon, so just hunt down the coupon so you'll save some good monies for accessories.
I will post the coupon when its available. I will also post a link to the website so you can print it.

W00000T I FOUND ONE.. 12% off
I'm a RewardZone Premier Silver Member, and I got coupons in the mail last week, it's good 12/8-12/19, says 12% off on no-contract phones.
It says "when you use your reward zone program premier silver membership"
It also came with a 10% off one too.
Looks like a standard coupon, I've used these before and I always use my RewardZone, so I don't know if it actually is required for a Premier Silver level to use.

My advice for using best buy coupons is always be nice and courteous to the cashier, if you act like some douche they will deny it, and if you get your coupon denied just ask to talk to the manager, they usually fix things up for you. I've got them to honor prices that were misprinted in the past.
Wow awesome...I just checked BB and I'm not eligible for an upgrade until JULY so that means i have to pony up $500+ for the Nexus S. So any coupon in form is awesome!
Hopefully one is found for thursday!
I believe that all of the best buy reward coupons state that unlocked phones and contract phones are excluded. It says that no contract phones are acceptable meaning pay as you go phones. You could probably argue that having t-mobile service means that all phones would qualify but they are technically unlocked phones or contract phones. The coupon may not apply the discount but they may give you the discount anyway.

It says you need Premiere Membership, but again, just sign up for RewardZone, and hope that it works for non Premier members
CLICK ON THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank You
Just to let you know, the back of the coupon, in the fine print, it says its not valid on contract/ AND unlocked phones. Isnt the Nexus S an unlocked phone? Im a premiere silver member and got the coupon a few days ago as well, but saw the fine print. I will still try to use it, but they could argue it and say that it is an unlocked phone so therefore invalid
Damn, what is the differenzce between unlocked phones and no-contract phones? Seems to be the same for me. Sorry I am not from the US, so maybe this is a stupid question.
I think we should argue if they say anything.
I would like to get it for $199 on contract, but the store doesn't sell it, only off contract full price (and it happens to be unlocked), it's their fault they don't sell T-Mobile in their store, so it should qualify as a "no contract phone"

I'm not surprised. Seen listings for phones worth <$300 mint going for $70-$150 with screens so fouled up, you would think they got married and tied it on the back of the car like it was a tin can. Being that big a device, I'd believe someone trying to sell a TF101 it for parts at $400.

It's not someone TRYING to sell at that price. That's the price it's at after 60 bids.
I think we can chalk that up as a win for the seller.

So yeah could be a "New" account just to bump price up.

It may not be that, either. I tried selling several of my used phones (including an iPhone 4) over the past year or so. Every time I tried to post a decently priced (~$150-200 USD for a phone that was selling for $300 used typically) some random 'new' account would either buy the phone out or balloon the bid up to some ungodly amount. Sure enough, payment would never be received, eBay would insist I give them their cut (even though they could clearly see I had never been paid, through PayPal or any other means), and my phones never sold. After 10 months of fighting this nonsense, and eBay still insisting I owed them seller fees for successfully sold items, I gave up completely on that rotten site. It's chock full of nonsense these days.

Ain't that the truth. I put a CULV machine up for sale at what I thought was a reasonable $50 starting bid. Within an hour I got an email from someone who told me (not asked, mind you) to close the listing, ship him the laptop and he would send me the $50. I declined, and he sent me another email telling me my laptop would never sell on eBay.
Shortly after that, two new accounts started a bidding war and took the price up to $1000. The price sat there until the auction ended 6 days later. Of course, no sale. I tried to work with eBay, but all they agreed to was not charging me to relist the laptop. They also claimed to close the two accounts, but a month after this you could still find the accounts on the site.
Moral: eBay has become a sales sewer. Thugs are running the place, and for every interesting and reasonably priced product you can find, there are 500 crap knockoffs waiting to take your money.

This phone is, supposedly, $199.99 thru T-Mobile, according to the Nexus site. I know it isn't coming out for 14 more days, but T-Mobile seems to be completely cluesless as to this phones arrival when you call them... That or the two folks I spoke to are not capable of doing their jobs... Anyone else have info on this? I wanted to upgrade to the S3 but they want 359.00 with 2 year extension. I've had them since 1998 and haven't really had any problems but they want way more than other providers... so I am hoping this phone IS in fact $200 bucks, and works with TMO US... Anyone have this somehow already with Tmobile?

At the bottom Nov 14....if I read that right 20 payments of $20??? Your paying $400 for a $350 (16GB) phone. Something isn't right there. It's cheaper to pay my credit card company monthly for this phone than through T-Mo.

Exactly.. Right now I'd have to pay Tmo ~$400 to upgrade and would have to re-commit for 2 more years... N4 is a perfect way to upgrade mid-way for a net cost of ~$150 (once I sell my Sensation).
You guys do realize that you're better off buying from the Play store and not extending the contract with T-Mobile, correct?
Check your math, its $199 out of pocket, and then $20/month for 20 months. Total = $599, which is MSRP. Google is subsidizing the one in the play store.

It was a misprint. It is actually 20 payments of $15. Still, it is a ripoff. No reason not to buy it from the Play Store.
Yeah, no point in extending the contract... Looks like we're going to get them from the play store!
I have the unsubsidized value plan, so I don't get discounts. Thanks Google for making a reasonably priced off-contract phone. All the other good phones are $600 or more lol.

They might not be losing on hardware, but they are losing when you factor in all the design costs that go into production, logistics, etc.... which usually cost more than the hardware, even when distributed over millions of units.

Google make the money from selling/renting content, eg books, music, films etc. That is why they can sell the hardware cheap. They probably break even on the hardware.
BTW I don't think Google are that nice that they wouldn't rip off the public, they are a huge company making millions from the public, they just know if they charged £600 for the phone then less people would buy it and maybe less people then spend money on googles content.

Google Wants to develop their ecosystem and are prepared to break even on the hardware to do so.

Guys one serious question. I am based in Europe and have a friend right now in US who was supposed to fly back on 21st Novermber and thus me and my gf we both sold our phones as he was gonna bring us two nexus4. While now suddenly his return has been preponed to 17th Novermber. So can he order the phones at midnight of 12th November as soon as it is 13th or will he have to wait till morning and most importantly will he be able to recieve them by 16th latest?? Or will they be available in any stores in US at the same price as google store (I heard about LGs debacle in European pricing). So to sum up if he orders as soon as the order is up or so will he get them by 16 or can he buy them in stores at the same price? Bottomline will he be able to buy these two phones for me and my gf at the said price. Now we are really in soup here as both of us are using stone age old phones and have finances ready precisely enough to pay him back euros equivlant to the cost of two nexus4 at USD prices.. Thanks for every suggestion in advance
No one knows, and it is impossible to predict. There may be shipping delays, there may be product shortages, we may be limited to one device per customer.
Thanks for offering help but this still doesnt tell me anything.. anymore wise guesses?
Nexus 7 was 2 days with 20 bucks shipping fee
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel
So given my desperate situation you think I stand a chance? My gf is already giving me dangerous vibes since I made her sell her phone too and we both are reduced to primitive nokia phones.. Google website said 2 days processing time and 2 days shipping from the moment order is placed.. This guy flies on 17th so they have to reach him by 16th... please convince me with some good news else I will have no option but to go on ebay and order some used phone in same price range atleast to shut her up or to put in money allocated to buy my phone for buying her something fancy here and either ways I will be loosing

No its not included, but shipping is fast op, so if you order tuesday morning you should have it by thursday/friday easily, unless there are delays.
2 day shipping from Google, which is the only option, is $13.99 for the Nexus 7. I'd expect about the same for the Nexus 4. When you calculate sales tax, be sure to include the shipping when you do. For some reason Google likes to tax the shipping as well.

Shipping price on the Play Store is $19.99 for all devices. The official policy listed in the Play Store FAQs is that devices are shipped via UPS Two day shipping. If you place an order in the morning, it will ship that day. At least that's what the policy reads here in Canada

So it will be around $349 + $19.99 + taxes.. Right? how much taxes do they take?
Thankx for encouragement indeed
So let me try and get this fellas... As per you guys if he manages to order early morning 13th November so he should recieve them by 16th? (I understand delays, but in normal scenario?)
Alongside, I read and heard that people only with US credit card will be able to buy the phone so he has worked in US in past and has bank account there so he said he can work something out but then I also heard there is a possibility that google might limit one phone per card/account?
So anyway he has asked me to transfer money for both phones in his account and then he will see.. so my calculation goes as 350+350 + shipping approx 15+15 (in case google limits one order per card so I understand I will be paying shipping on both since both will be ordered seperately) + sales tax approx 30+30. So to sum up, is it safe to assume final cost of phone should not go over 400 USD in any scenario? because then I will be transferring in Euros equivilant to 800USD. (I have screwed him enough in past that now he doesnt even buy me one free beer so he isnt gonna chip in any missing amount
So date and approx money looks ok to you guys? Most importantly, please shed more light on the delievery part as thats the most vital aspect of my supply chain and my gf is still cursing me since she has heard that she may not be able to get her hands on this phone after I have made her sell hers..
Needless to say thanks to all
Is it true that you can only order with US credit cards? I'm in a similar situation to the OP. I'm travelling to the States from November 22nd - 30th, and was considering having one delivered to my hotel prior to my arrival for them to hold for me as it'd be cheaper than buying from the UK Play Store even with taxes and shipping.
Not sure if it'd be worth hassling some American friends to do this for me on their cards if you need a US based card to have one delivered in the US though...

Devices are shipped via UPS standard shipping for Canada, not two-day - http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2411789#CA. It works out to 5-7 days in my experience.
