Best internet browser and apps? - HD2 General

HI,
I read somewhere on here about the different internet browsers and how some don't display flash etc, and there was a browser recognised by most as the best. Can anyone tell me the name and where I might find the cab? I've tried both internet explorer and opera. Don't like internet explorer, doesn't seem to display things right, and the pinch zoom doesn't seem to work. I've found opera OK though.
Also where can I find all the best games and apps for the HD2? I've been into the application section and information is all over the place. Is it just a matter of sifting through it all? Or is there somewhere similar to an app store, or microsoft's marketplace where it's easy to find what you want, but aren't paying the ridiculous price of the marketplace?
If anyone can point me in the direction of a solitaire app/cab I'd be very grateful

Hi

By the way I use a skyfire/opera combo Opera for day to day and skyfire for anything that requires flash or silverlight it's got quite a good implementation of the two but not an everyday browser (imho) you may like it though just google for it. If your looking for apps that are free check out freewarepocketpc.net you will have to sift through a fair few apps there but you can search for what your after just try and check that wvga is a supported resolution for the app as some will look terible.
In terms of games experiment 13, electopia and xtract are pretty good you can find experiment 13 and xtract on freewarepoketpc.net. Electopia you'll have to get from the developers site.
Happy hunting

Printing from WM Devices

Someone named ChrisJasper was kind enough to provide me with links to allow me to print from my mobile device... I downloaded a trial and am happy with it thus far... Since I hadn't seen this information posted before, I thought I would post it now...
h**p://www.bachmannsoftware.com/pb_main.htm
h**p://activeprintblog.pocketwatchsoftware.com/
I tried the ActivePrint... and I may very well purchase it, there are three flavors ranging from $20 - $40...
Thanks for posting this here. I saw the thread @ 4winmobile. I just d/l the trial myself. If I like it then I won't need to go searching for this.
Now to go searching for how to browse network shares.
Scott
I saw that posted somewhere already... will have to see if I can locate it again....

for PocketPC there are many 3rd party softwares available for this ... I like "Resco Explorer" best !!
as for the Smartphone device.. ?? NO such luck !!! even the RESCO guys folded their hands in defeat !!
there are workaround streaming methods like "ORB" for example ... but we are talking about hooking up to your home network and browsing the share files though ... not happenning with Smartphone
let me know if you find a solution down the line

Try to get this as a sticky---Best apps for different uses

This forum has a lot of information and a lot of input and applications and downloads. I recently started coming here a few weeks ago and little by little have gotten through quite a few threads and downloaded some amazing stuff. However, it's been difficult at best and quite slow and tedious and I know there is still lots of stuff I'm missing.
What I was thinking is how it would be great if we had one unified post that summarized and organized some of the most popular applications that are available here. Something like:
Best Music Players
--HTC Audio manager
--Mort Player
--etc.
Best Browser
--Opera Mini
--Picsel
--Skyfire
--etc.
Best locking program
--S2U2
--etc.
and so on, with the download links next to them. This would make referencing certain applications easy to find and download for all from various threads. With a few people in charge to moderate the thread, updates could easily be done as people post as they arrive or to alert others and then subsequently deleted.
I'm not sure if this has been brought up or attempted before, but I wanted to throw it out there. Please feel free to close or lock this thread if necesssary mods.
I would also add that some polls could be set up initially to identify some of these key applications to set up a "standard" list of applications that most users here should at least be familiar with and/or have on their devices.
Thanks and hope this idea helps out others if it's put forth.
Chain Fire's WMWIFI ROUTER
Slither's HTC CUBE Clone ( flash version )
Slither's HTC Cube ( C++ version )
Throttle Launcher
will add more later
Best Music Player:
Pocket Melody
Best Browser:
NetFront Browser 3.5
Best contact App :
-- PocketCM 0.19b !!
I can't find the pocket melody thread... can some one gimme a link...
Thanks
Sorry, but before this thread becomes very crowded and yet another "must have" list that gets lost in the realms of the web: Wouldn't it be better to do this in the XDA-Wiki?
Here's a good starting point.
A sticky hint might be a good idea, though, you've got to scroll the Wiki main page for a while to find it...

Thank you. That's exactly the type of format I'm looking for. I didn't want everyone to just come and start posting their favorite programs but instead to have ONE post that combined them all. I just don't know enough of them and haven't been around long enough to even begin to compile it.
That wiki page looks great. I just hope someone that has a little time and the desire to do this could pull it off. I just don't have either nor the knowledge to put out something that would be helpful. Thanks for the reply.

We should have official polls on what are the best apps for each category.
That way, the best of the best will show themselves and those who are not yet enlightened, WILL be.
It will also clear up arguments and let popularity decide.

Agreed. Should be in general.

[REQ} Internet Explorer 6 CAB

Can anyone provide me with that?
yes, search on the forum and you'll find one.
I found it this morning on the blackstone forum.
here's a clue type ie6 cab blackstone into the google search at the top of the search screen
if you're quick, you might even find it on the third thread on the results of your search.
of course if there's another 30 threads asking exactly the same thing then you may start to struggle, which is why all new users are asked to SEARCH before posting.
It makes it bloody hard to find anything after a bit, because the forum becomes full of threads asking the same thing!
i did a search and i don't find. easy to say:"take the search function". it's boring to read this answer at each question...
fards already did a search and found it. he was even kind enough to tell you where exactly to get it, short of giving you the url.

Well if you can't abide by the RULESOf the forum then I suggest you don't post at all.
sorry for boring you so much that you felt the need to take time to post that, but there aren't many rules here but one of them is to learn how to use the search!

Thanks for help...
I didn't find it. I'm not the only guy having difficulties to get IE6 cab.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=484409
I liked IE6 on a win6.5 rom but i prefer win 6.1 . So i think we have to wait specific IE6 for windows mobile 6.1. I'll don't wait help in this topic...
i did what fards said and managed to find the cab.
For people who have better things to do than sift around for a few hours:

OR
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=461717
Haven't installed yet. Please stop posting threads like this which make searching next to impossible - and others please stop saying "just search" - it isn't that easy with so many useless threads.
EDIT: GODDAMN! Neither of these work! Where is the real CAB????
EDIT No.2: Seems that IE6 is not available as a CAB. According to some, at least: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473647

I look but cannot find such program thus it would be great if someone can help? Thank in advance.

I don't know if it's the best but you might check out the AP News app. It's free and very easy to find. on the Microsoft Marketplace.

I have been using it for a while now. I like it a lot. Another thing you might want to try is some rss reader app.
Decided to look on the Marketplace and cannot find that AP News app on the UK Marketplace.
Is there anything else that is suitable or am I being useless in my ability to find it on the MS MP?

snaptu has a few news channels on it not very consise & not totally utd but for a basic news feed try this
i have not come across any winmo rss reader that is even close to what you get for the iphone or android devices (i have an iphone 3gs, nexus one, samsung i8910, archos 5IT and motorola milestone - and i consume news from all these devices depending on which one is the closest!).
anyway, after having tried multiple apps on various platforms, i find myself returning to google reader's mobile version.
i would suggest you set up your feeds one-time in google reader using a desktop, and then from your phone access the mobile version located at google.com/reader/i (note the "i" at the end of the string).
you can use opera 10 - the formatting is a bit off, but the headlines wrap properly. you could also try skyfire.
if you consume lot of feeds, you will love the way stories expand in place, and flicking down takes you to more headlines. this vertical approach is much faster and elegant than the horizontal approach implemented by dedicated rss apps. those apps take you to the story in a new window and then you have to retract back to get to the list. you are always backing in and out, rather than flicking downwards seamlessly...

I have tried Daily News and AP News app and gotta say Daily News was better - until I found Yomo Media... Take a look at it...
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-yomomedia.html
BTW - you want to install OMarket as well as it stores about 500 free apps for WinMo devices....
More devs should start developing apps with the ManilaSDK. It is pretty much aweseome, and makes us able to create state of the art apps for the, in my oppinion best mobile plattform!
Freewarepocketpc.net is an awesome plattform to share the products!
