NavIt on Hero - Hero, G2 Touch General

Has anyone launched NavIt GPS navigation application on Hero?
I have tried but when I have launched NavIt it shows blank window and then this application quits to the main screen.
Is there any solution for this problem?
Many thanks.

I've tried NavIt on the Samsung Galaxy, and it's very rudimentary. See some alternative GPS navigation software for Android at my wiki.

Can anyone recommend non-road navigating GPS software?

Hi all.
I'm looking for a GPS program with will show me things like OS grid references and other datums, as well as displaying my position on a map, and use a bluetooth gps reciever on my M5000.
Has anyone got any recommendations? If the software has a demo period that'd be even better!
Any recommendations gratefully recieved.
You can try memory map.
You can use OS maps and it will show your position on the map.
There is a demo but I think it only lets you use a certain map.
Hope that helps
Pete
I am eagerly waiting for a navigatable version of Google Earth, or even better, the hybrid Google Maps.

Is this coming out? If so, do you have any idea when? Cheers.
Yes,
try OziExplorer
There is a test version.
You can import your own raster image maps
Calibration tool is as well available.
Using it since years now on different PDAs.
Look here: http://www.oziexplorer.com the CE Version is it
Works fine with Bluetooth GPS on my MDA Pro
Thanks all for the advice, I shall have a look at the suggested ideas.

Any offline map software?

I currently have Google maps installed which is incredible (http://google.com/gmm), but does anyone know of any map software that I can use without a data connection? I was hoping for something as good and free as the google map.

i asked this a while ago in the general forum, there is one by nokia called smart2go, but apparently nothing else
That is a neat offline map. You can download maps from all over the world for free. The only thing that it is just literally just a map. Once I want to start putting in locations and mapping routes, that's when I gotta pay. It's nice tho, works fine on my WM5. Thanks for the find! I'm still open for suggestions if anybody knows of any other progs.
I'm about to try Pocket Streets 2002
I know I downloaded it free, but I think I may have to have Streets & Trips on the PC. I don't remember.... I'll let you know how it goes. I'm wondering if anyone else has any ancient stuff, when WiFi was our only internet option (in general), so live maps were pretty pointless.
Of course, there's the outdated data thing to consider.
I was also wondering if something like AvantGo might work. I imagine it would be possible to edit the page to add your own stuff. ???

i bought a gps. now what?

Ok, I bought a GPS on ebay, the BT-359. Now what? I need extra software on the phone to use turn by turn navigation, right? What software do you recommend? For simple "where am I," I can use the newest Google Maps or LiveSearch I assume.
Thanks
Now buy a GPS Software (IGo, MioMap...), install it, and enjoy in turn by turn navigation.
Check out www.buygpsnow.com. They have some good deals.
I recently got a bluetooth unit myself; I have downloaded a trial version of software called GPS Tuner. It automagically downloads google maps based on your location, pretty cool.
I plan to go hiking this weekend and will try it out on some waypoint I'm going to load.
I use TomTom For Windows Mobile. Works really Well. You can buy it on their website or you can 'acquire it' else where fairly easily.
Set up the Com Ports and Away you go!. Just make sure you read the manual for Your GPS to set it up correctly.
Tomtom is tha bomb for Nav (at least in Australia it is) WM5 used to freeze up if you had too many Points of interest active however on WM6 you dont get it at all.

Why don't you just use Google Maps mobile directly? It too has GPS functinality.
You can also use free MGmaps
http://www.mgmaps.com/
You can download Google tiles to your device and use them locally without data acess.
TomTom hands down.
I've used other brands of software and they all feel like a poorly designed child's toy compared to TomTom.

Overhead maps are virtually impossible to drive with. On top of that you still HAVE to have a data connection to route.

I˛m using a MioMap v3.2 with Cyberus v10 skin and i am a fully satisfied with this GPS software. I tested all GPS software, but MioMap is best for me. All world maps for all world countries exist for this GPS software.

Anyone working to get Google Maps to Rhodium/ TP2?

the droid/ linux base might make this tough, but the idea of having the googleMaps nav integrate w/ 6.5.1+ and SPB Mobile Shell would be top notch.

??????????????
Google Maps is running since ever on the TP2...the stock ROM contains it too.
So what was the question again?
He means the turn by turn Sat Navigation Google has for the Moto Droid.
I think he is reffering to the newest beta wit htrue turn by turn directions...but this is the wrong forum for this discussion.
but I am also anxious!
Thank you RojasTKD for your professional response
RojasTKD has it correctly. I know that google maps is on the TMO TP2, without navigation/GPS-service capabilities; the navigation provided is a $10+/mo service via teleNav, and having the same 'droid free functionality would be great.
No one on these forums needs the condescending remarks as others have added; we are all experts at some things and can learn a lot in other things. Forums should be supportive and corrective, not a place for shooting down ideas with closed minds.
Thanks again RojasTKD.
If it works through telenav wouldn't using telenav be the same thing? correct me if I'm wrong.

CONSIDER... because you still need inet!

There are maps for nearly the hole world.
I was woundering if I was using an internet does GPS cost extra onto my contract?
iGO8 is best GPS software for me. I tried all software for GPS and after all I've come to the conclusion that the best IGO8 in combination with Gurjon or DiMka skin and my color scheme.
Pretty tweaked and flexible software. iGO use internal maps and don`t use any internet or similar connection.

I have seen many videos of iGO Navigation on youtube and must say that application is nowehere near GARMIN XT app... Garmin simply turns your phone into GARMIN NAVIGATION itself. Very responsive, obtains satelite signals quickly, maps for the whole world, etc - you name it...
Note: Garmin XT is no longer on sale by it's manufacturer but some retailers still have some left. If you google it you will be able to find it.
I will try to do Garmin XT demo on my HD2 and post it for others to see how better it really is

does it need internet on the phone? or just runs with out it
Most of navigation software is offline - without internet connection.
TomTom, igo8, garmin, navigon, ndrive, ... all offline navigation
The US version of IGO is OnCourse Navigator. The only problem I had with Oncourse is that it required you to use their SD card which last time I checked was only 8gb. Garmin and Tom Tom were only 2 gb cards. I use CoPilot as it allows you to use your own SD card. The only thing you need to make sure of is that you deActivate every time you flash your phone. I've used all the programs listed and find them all to be very nice. Also CoPilot is also the cheapest at about $30.

Forgot to mention that BUT did state that you completely get NAVI UNIT out of that APP...
To answer your question - no, it does not use the internet at all. You can use it for better signal acquiring and for Garmin / Google Searching options - but that's up to you whether you want it or not...
I'm using Gamin Mobile XT and loving it. It's the same as my real Gamin that I decided too sell my Gamin 350. No text to speech like my 350, but who cares.
