I (and everyone else) think (know) that Engadget browser test was BS. So could somebody make a video with this test?

no problem, after engadgets ****ty review, i was on the lookout for better tests.
Anyone have any logical idea why engadgest's test was that bad?
Josh is an Apple fanboy? I don't know, but this seems to be an especially threatening device for many Apple/MS fanboys and Google haters. The worst has to be the 6 reasons not to like the Nexus One (http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/185900/six_reasons_to_not_like_googles_nexus_one.html) which seems to have no clue how to even use the device.
but i mean, how would you sabotage the nexus to perform radically slower than the iphone.
Blueman:
Visit it on the iPhone a couple of times beforehand. Don't visit it on the Nexus One. Then, run lots of background tasks on the Nexus. If you're really desperate, connect the iPhone through WiFi and the Nexus One through 2G. Easy as pie, really.
Then best way to make this test proper, you need to clear browser cache on iPhone? Now way they did that...
IMO, the Nexus browser is a big step up from my G1 browser. Even unrooted, its blowing my G1 out of the water. I've visited Engadget on my Nexus, on 3G, caches cleared. It's nowhere near as slow as Engadget put it out to be. I can tell Joshua is starting to piss off many Engadget readers.
My router has the option to rate-limit a mac address....
Maybe theirs does too...
My browser seems crazy fast, depends on the page but its always been fast on xda which is usually slow on my laptop, Josh is by far my least favorite Engadget reviewer, I knew the Nexus One was screwed when i saw he was the one with the phone, he's hurtin Josh's everywhere with his iphan crap

Many people are saying that Engadget is optimized for the Safari browser...whether this is true or not I don't know. But I already knew the test was inaccurate because back when Hero and myTouch came out there were browser tests done against the 3GS and they were neck-and-neck. There was no way 2.x would slow this down that much.
Who uses the full browser, anyways?
Am I the only Opera Mini user? That **** is laser fast, even on EDGE.
Compression FTW. Save data for when you're tethered and don't clog the tubes.

Except the current interface sucks and it's extremely unintuitive. It's pretty obvious it wasn't designed with the phone in mind or any Android phone for that matter.
Looking forward to Mini 5 though and Mobile 10.....

I find xScope to be quicker than Dolphin. Even the stock browser seems quicker than Dolphin to me..... Opera Mini is really quick though, but I don't like the current interface as I said, but the new Beta 5 is really good....just not yet available on Android.

Here's a battle between WiFi browser loading speeds between the three phones. Very interesting result. Can anyone explain why the iphone was significantly faster? Nexus One should have been way faster compared to the iphone on same wifi speeds.
check it out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMGkhBIqOMg
are we sure the android browser is loading everything in the same order? (it could have been loading the images further down the page first), also, it seems like the apple had cached the page, I have no sound here, but did they say that all 3 phones had been fuly reset or had their cache's cleared?
Yeah, that site was iPhone optimized! That's why there was such a huge difference in load times... what a scam! Notice you even see the "Engadget for the iPhone" banner pop up on the iPhone's screen...
Also notice the guys' ENTIRE post was so SLANTED!!!!!!!!!! He's a complete Apple fan boy. He wanted the Driods to lose. Just ticks me off becuase people will buy that when there is NO way AT&T has a better network and the Iphone is a slower machine.
I so wish this phone was unlocked for AT&T too! gah... my wifes stupid plan and her free minutes!!! I'm switching anyway but it would have been nice to truly have the open system.
No doubt the iphone had the page cached. I've just tried loading engadget on my iPhone 3GS, clearing the cache first and it took twice as long as what video showed on the iphone. I on Wifi with a 6.5mb connection too.
Engadget is totally biased toward Apple big time, nothing can ever live up to them if it hasnt got a apple logo on it.
This begs the question how did a bias reviewer like that get the exclusive review ?
But in head to head non cached race they will be almost the same, but even if the iphone wins (as some browsers generally handle different coded sites better) its doesn't matter as hay nexus one has confirmed Flash ..... my 3gs is looking older and older with every nexus one news story lol
Stop being fanboyish and look at facts. The new browser is nice, but Google screwed it up by moving the drawing engine to the skiagl library. It's now running on the same circumstances as the Chrome browser.
Engadget is a pretty punishing site, and, unlike the iPhone's safari, Android's browser won't release a page until most content is loaded (with the iPhone you can start viewing content even as it's loading).
Here's an interesting thing: If you have a Dream, load up Cupcake on it. No, seriously, load Cupcake on it, the do a browser test of Cupcake browser vs Eclair browser.
The new browser is pretty, but it's pretty much crap.
-edit-
I check engadget almost daily, and I had noticed that since I started using the 2.0 browser loading was slower. Oddly enough, most other websites are pretty quick too. The iPhone browser is supperior, and nobody's questioning that. I switched to Opera Mini on my device mostly because of the slow speed of the stock browser.
-edit2-
Honestly, run the test yourselves. Any eclair browser (either using a droid, or a nexus one, or a dream with either and aosp eclair build or cm's newest donut release with the 2.0 browser backported) will load the page at about the same rate (slower on my g1 over wifi which, according to speedtest.net, is running at 14.28 Mbps down, plenty fast).
Actually, I'll make a video of two android emulator devices, one with 2.0.1, and another with 1.5 and I'll load engadget on both.
plus the smoothness of the scroll. The iphone scrolls at snail speed, moving down screen length, of course its going to look smooth. Android scroll speed is 5 times faster, obviously it's going to look less smooth because of the refresh rate.
I don't see them commenting about that
Ok, here we go.
Android 1.1 browser (unchanged up to donut except for a few ui changes, but rendering engine is the same) vs Android 2.0.1 browser (with libskiagl drawing engine).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjsWWjh79oM
Interesting stuff, Jubeh!
Yes, Engadget is quite a bit slanted in apples favor. That entire review which contained that video was slanted. They failed to mention call quality in that review... did not even bring up the noise cancelling mike. Used sarcastic remarks all over the place. In this video he was like ohhh.. "If I were an owner of this phone I would be in tears"
I bet when I run this test myself the nexus one will probably win out most times but it all depends on the site. Gizmodo stated that the Nexus outperformed both the 3gs and droid most times in multiple test. Unlike Engadget.. they saw the result they wanted on their first try and didn't try it elsewhere.
i love my iphone
......now ducks under a table
I love my iPhone too but some ppl who have them think they are flawless which is untrue there are may downsides to the iphone which this particular review glossed over when comparing the too, things like :-
- WiFi 'n' Connectivity
- Removable battery (when the iphones battery dies like they do its a mess to replace the battery not to mention it voids the warrantee)
- Apples Grip on AppStore
- How apple restricts JB/Rooting is immense ( reducing your control over iphones)
- Battery Nexus Has a bigger battery and better life
Im not saying the nexus is perfect either :-
- Browser does seem slower on nexus (time will tell) Acid3 test them :-|
- UI of the nexus still looks kinda dated
- Some reported lag on home screens
So I understand that there are areas where the N1 falls behind the iPhone but on other, some more practical areas the iPhone falls behind.
Also did they say there device was On 2.1 ?? it could have been on 2.0.1 and i dint see any 2.1 specific features
how is 1.1 better than 2.0.1, how is that even possible?
Why would they let it come to that?
They better fix that!!!!
Anyone know if flash 10 works on the Nexus??

Now if you were to say that the iPhone was better than the Nexus One in a Nexus One forum, with android fans, then you might need to hide under a table. BUT EVEN THAT WONT SAVE YOU!!!!

unknown, no one else seems to be wanting to do some browser videos.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612843
Just got my nexus 1 and tried the engadget browser test. On my n1, it loaded the site just as fast as the iphone 3gs. And, after the page was cached, the n1 loaded the site faster than the 3gs.
And scrolling is very smooth, significantly better than the mt3g.
Here is a video from REAL Nexus One users comparing the browser speeds.
The N1 is just as fast if not faster than the iPhone.
Don't know why Engadget would make it seem Android is dyingly slow!!

Display - Pretty good but not nearly as great as the iPad's.. nor is it as bright as the iPad. Pixel density looks A LOT like the iPad.. I can't really say the Xoom is any sharper than the iPad.. Whites look much better on the iPad.. they definately have a much higher color gamut and contrast ratio on the iPad. This is disappointing considering how much the Xoom costs off-contract. The Xoom screen looks nearly identical to what Samsung uses on their Galaxy Tab 7". Viewing angles are "decent" but again, not as good as iPad. I would say they are using a cheap PVA type panel, not IPS on this unit. PVA is still much better than TN at least.
Weight - Same weight as iPad.. so to me, it feels too heavy for it's size... but I think the Xoom is much easier to hang onto/hold because of it's widescreen nature'd body.
Speed - Depending on apps I guess.. or how optimized they are.. Angry Birds Seasons (the tablet version) runs like crap compared to Angry Birds on my Galaxy Tab.. not sure why.. Web browsing is a real treat.. Definately renders web sites faster than the iPad.. content is ready to explore at a much faster pace.. However, scrolling isn't as nice as it is on the iPad.. I don't know why Android can't get scrolling anywhere near iOS's Safari. Scrolling is choppy and clunky depending on how many pictures are needed to be shown on the screen at one time. Quadrant scores LOWER than my Galaxy Tab.. Could be Quadrant's not optimized well enough for the Tegra2 platform.
Battery Life - I will have to edit this in later.. my Xoom came out of the box with 77% life..
Interface/UI - I actually like Honeycombs UI.. the quick-softkeys are delightful to use.. especially to multitask with.. Flying between apps is instantaneous and snappy.. much faster than iPad's multitasking.
Speakers - Horrible placement.. they project all sound away from you being on the rear of the device when you're holding the Xoom.. so everybody else hears MORE than what you're hearing.. Otherwise they sound pretty good.. I would say as good as iPad.. and even louder.
Data Connectivity - Verizon 3g on the Xoom FLIES.. I've gotten over 2mb down and over 1mb up.. the modem chip inside the Xoom must be pretty exceptional.. my Galaxy S phone (also on Verizon) barely gets over 1mb down and about 600-700kbps up. Wifi on the other hand seems weak.. my connection is constantly dropping to my home's Wifi connection.. and the Wifi router is just 1 room away :/
Interesting Tid-Bits
The built-in "Chrome" Browser is GPU accelerated.. resulting in much smoother/faster rendering/scrolling.. When installing a 3rd party Browser like Dolphin HD, the web browsing experience plummets, which reminds you of your first Android powered phone and browser.. slow rendering and horrible, choppy scrolling. So with this said, if an app isn't taking advantage of the Tegra2 SOC, don't expect much performance.. this probably also explains the crappy framerates you get when running Quadrant.
I'll post more later.. going back to playing with the Xoom.

Thanks buddy, I appreciate it. So far i'm imperssed, honestly. I think it's a solid device. Worth 800 bucks? Probably not, but over 18 months, what the hell, I can afford to be an early adopter. Either way, i'm happy with my investment, and I really hope google puts a lot of attention to fixing bugs and any other issues with Honeycomb.

I can agree with that, I don't know.. It doesn't outweigh the pros as of yet. The main thing that i'm eager to test at this point is the Battery, and some of the dual core optimized games and what not. What about you? Are you looking for anything in particular? Any other experience you can comment on? So far, by the way, tethering to my droid x is working phenomenally.

What I'm really looking for is a Tablet with an alternative OS (anything not Windows) with great battery life and gives me the tools to be as productive as a netbook.. Far reaching goals im sure though.
Does honeycomb have an easy way for selecting in the middle of sentences / words? I know the IPad has a magnify glass come up when you hold your finger near a word so that you can see exactly where the cursor is, does honeycomb do something similar? Also, how is the copy/paste in honeycomb? I know on my 2.3 phone, it's not that great and hard to select exactly what you want.
you able to find google body app... cant find it on market and it's not preinstalled???
Can you try viewing streaming websites on WiFi (justin.tv or ustream.tv) and see how the tablet handles higher quality streams?

I have no experience with Android 2.3.. but there seems to be a pretty nice/decent cut and paste built in.. I haven't used it yet.
I have had an iPad since july of last year, sold it yesterday in prepartion for the Xoom purchase today. Walked into Verizon purchased the Xoom and walked right out no hassle, no activation required. Here my Mini Review so far, with some comparisons to my previous 32gb ipad.
Hardware:
Nice heft, feels really solid and has that industrial feel. I do not feel I am going to drop it because it slips out of my hand... i always felt that way when holding an ipad.
its a 16:10 screen so it is wider than it is long. Should be perfect for movies.
Screen is a finger print magnet like ipad.
Software:
Gmail- is incredible on this thing. Drag and drop, color labels, etc. the workflow with gmail is priceless and so fluid. I cannot speak of the general "email" app because i only use gmail.
youtube- way way faster loading videos on this than it was on the ipad. it has some eye candy, which is always nice.. esp for android.
browser- Browser is great! and it loads pages faster than my ipad did. also it has tabs and THEY DO NOT RELOAD ON SWITCHING!! I had 8 tabs open... flipping through them flawlessly! As always using google account you can sync bookmarks and such between desktop and xoom.
Havent tried the music app yet
The gallery is like your standard vanilla android gallery.. loaded all my picasa pics from the cloud.
Other apps- there are very few "tablet apps" in the market. The 2 I did DL was pulse and accuweather. Pulse was pretty basic but did take advantage of the fragments. Accuweather is slick... but they need to polish up some pixelation i saw tapping the background "live" water.
Apps like facebook and kindle scale up nicely. While some apps dont like the speedtest app.
Speaking of speed test, i did a load on my wifi connection at 15mbps down and 3 up and i pull 14mbps down and 2 up. My ipad could never pull above 10mbps. I also noticed my signal holding strong than it did on my ipad.
Workflow is great!! This is what i have been missing on ipad... background task, unintrustive notifications.
Thats all I have right now... so far I am liking the decision i made. But i know i will be missing my apps the ipad had!!! Android cant match it yet... it will take some time.
If Xoom battery life is anything like G Tablets (Also Tegra 2) it should have pretty damn good battery Life
Hi Guys,
I am a big Android fan. I have Droid X and bought the Xoom the first day it came out. Was very happy with my Xoom untill my brother got the new IPAD2. It's lighter, thinner and the screen blows the Xoom screen, The Xoom screen colors are washed out, if you open the same image on both ipad and Xoom you will understand what I am talking about , its the contrast ratio ! I paid $800 plus tax for a device with mediocre screen and below average contrast ratio ! That's why Apple will stay the best and the top company as they don't compromise their quality and now even their price is unbeatable.
Also it was a big surprise that all the websites I browsed worked better on the Ipad browser. Engadget, Android central, and Cnet websites worked perfectly including the embedded Videos and I don't know how the video is playing while the Ipad does not have flash ? Managed to play the videos on my Xoom using the new flash 10.2 but it is not as clear and smooth and high resolutions as the ipad.
Friendly Facebook for ipad blows any Android app I ever seen, all other Apps including the new Weather bug for Honeycomb is not as good as the Ipads. Only the Pulse app is almost the same on both platforms.
Even though the Xoom resolution is higher, everything on the ipad looks smoother and much better with brilliant colors.
Now, I am not sure what is the thing that I can do with the Xoom and can't do it using the ipad. To be Frank I went back and checked my receipt to return the Xoom and buy an ipad but unfortunately I passed the 14 days return policy for Best Buy.
I wont sell it in Craigslist and loose some money, its a good tablet but I should not look at the ipad screen as it really irritates me.
Please drop a line with your thoughts
Regards

When you sell 15 million iPads in 9 months and over 100 million iphones, websites generally will make sure their content plays kindly with your devices. All of those websites detect if you are on an iPad and display content that works well on the ipad (HTML5 video for example). Some websites go into a special ipad tablet mode when you go to them. I think the NYT does this. That is why Steve Jobsy says flash is unnecessary, because he has 115 million devices in the wild and he knows websites will do what they can to accommodate those users instead of potentially missing out on that giant block of traffic. That will not be changing this year when the iPad2 really takes off either.
Yup and frankly speaking HTML5 is much better as videos looked much better than our flash with less battery consumption and very smooth scrolling.
But the question is I thought that Honeycomb supports HTML 5 , so why we can't play the videos without flash and just like the ipad ?

Sell it and get an iPad. Get what makes you happy. I'm fortunate, my wife and I currently have iPad 1s and I'm selling both of them. My wife is getting a new iPad 2 and I have a new Xoom. This way we have both in our house and I can use an ipad 2 whenever I feel like it (its actually my account so all my apps are on there anyway ).
Reality is, this religious war people have is freaking ridiculous. Just buy whatever makes you happy. One thing to note though about market share, last year when the iPhone 4 came out it blew away every Android phone on the market in benchmarks, specs, screen, apps, etc. and Apple was dominating the smartphone market.
Guess who's leading the smartphone market with leaps and bounds 1 year later?

HTML5 video works on Android 2.3, however I don't know about Honeycomb. I set my user agent to iPad with Dolphin Browser HD and HTML5 video worked perfectly.
Edit: You don't even have to do this. Just try HTML5 only video websites. I assume the same should apply to Honeycomb as well, if not that would be odd... I don't think I'm going to be using Flash for a while actually, as long as the site supports HTML5.

The videos plays using the Xoom video player in a new full size page which is fine but still not like the ipad that can play the embedded video within the same page with a full screen option.

Are you kidding??
I would hardly call the iPad 2 a quality built device:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1114606
After seeing all the pics in that thread, and hearing that Apple Geniuses are telling people that all iPad 2's do this so it's normal, I wouldn't pay a hundred bucks for one. It's obvious from that thread just why the iPad has a good price. Apple used cheap parts and POOR quality control. I considered an iPad 2 to go with my Xoom, but not now...it's crap.
You sure that isn't just a manufacture error that will be fixed?

Wow that is really bad.

I have both the Xoom & the iPad 2, and to be honest, I'm using the iPad 2 a lot more than the Xoom, design wise they both have their pros and cons, same thing with hardware and build quality, I do however like the design of the Xoom a bit more and i like the feel more than the iPad just seems like its better put together to me. As for the power button on the Xoom, I'm not sure why people hate it, coming from the Viewsonic Gtab & a variety of other chinese tablets I think the button is great, I've never accidently hit it before. Anyways, I've got my Xoom about 3 days after it launched and only played with it for about 2 days max, cause frankly the apps just aren't there yet since it is a new device after all and there are still lots of bugs to work out this I understand. I've never owned the original iPad and was on the fence about the iPad 2 until I saw the specs for it, the dual core processor was what sold me on the iPad 2. Since getting it on launch day, I haven't been able to put it down, great device (yes, i hate the stupid iPhone UI) but the apps are years a head of the android apps, I love tinkering and customizing my devices with custom roms etc, but I find for daily use right now, the iPad 2 is a much better device since it has so much app support right now. Of course this could all change in about 6-12 months when more developers make apps for Honeycomb. Still, I find the overall quality of iPad apps/iPhone apps are better than android apps. My only gripe with the iPad is the crappy screen resolution on the iPad, sure the IPS screen has better viewing angles then the Xoom screen, but when you're looking straight at it you can tell the Xoom screen looks much sharper because of the resolution, if only Apple increased the screen resolution.
Anyways, both great devices but like I said the only thing that sucks on the Xoom is the app support right now which should be fixed in a few months once more devices are available. Totally different platforms, anyways, in my opinion the Xoom probably wont do 1/10th of the iPad sales just because the mass market wont get this device. Cause at this moment the iPad 2 is a much better functioning device, browsing is easier, and smoother, no (atleast I haven't had one) forced closes, it just seems like a more complete device for the mass market and I really think apple is smart for having their tiered pricing. So don't expect any SD card slot or anythign like that, cause if they do add an SD Card slot, then there is no incentive for people to buy the 64GB version.

Well who knows? But more than a few users have commented in that thread saying the ipad 1 had the same issue but to a lesser degree and that apple never did fix it. They are now seriously worried that they won't fix it this time either. Look how apple reacted to the iphone 4 antenna issue. Maybe they should stop looking at the ipad2 that way At any rate I'm not risking my time and money on a device with a screen that looks like that.
I had my transformer for about 2 weeks and today I decided to sell it because Im completely dissapointed. the browser was choppy, so were the home screen swiping and the battery life was least of all unimpressive.
I did try the stock rom, Revolver 3.6 and Prime 2.0.6 roms, along with different browsers and launchers and it just didn't do it for me me unfortunately
I know I'm gonna get quite a bit of heat for this but my 1gen iPad gave me a better browsing and much better battery life than my TF. the only good thing about TF was that I got to do all the crazy fun things (rooting, flashing, tweaking) I do on my Android phone for this two weeks, but its just not good enough.
so there you have it, just wanted to rant a bit, hopefully the new releases of Asus will be better.
I guess they aren't for everyone.

Shame to hear u giving it up so soon. I've had mine for about just over a week and so far its been nothing short of excellent all around. Exact opposite of all your negatives.
Good luck with your ipad.

ipad1 browsing was always awful for me. checkerboard all over the place, and having to reload sections of a page as you scroll is obnoxious. browsing on these devices is never going to be great till typical web development changes focus.
I had an iPad 1 before I bought MT transformer. Great product. But the transformer blows away the ipad 1 and 2 in my eyes. So much more your allowed to do. My wife uses the ipad still and ios 5 made the product alot better. But its still no transformer. I am sad to say I am going to sell my transformer and rely on the ipad for a while, or until the new transformer comes out I should say.

Oh Noes! But I agree, coming to a developer forum dedicated to that specific device to cry about how you hate it is by far the best course of action.
Are you expecting that we care?

I know what you mean, I got fed up with the battery issue and a few other things like no spell checker and really bad lag while typing on some websites/forums, I could go on about printing docs and a few other things but I won't*
*I've put my tf up for sale and bought a lovely netbook which in most ways kicks the tf ass, but do you know what I've started to look at the tf in a different way
*I've managed to solve the battery life problem, it's a bit of a slaver but I sorted it on my tf, now getting really good battery life, I also sometimes use a different browser for different sites, an example would be techradar, the stock browser just can't handle it so I use opera, I know you shouldn't have to use different browsers for different sites but that's just how it is
The tf is not a pc and I've stopped looking at it as such, I now look at it as a multi media device that can browse the internet and send and receive emails and play games, for that it's good

almost the same here man, my girlfriend likes the iPad much more than the TF. the iPad works for our purposes, watch movies during long flights or train trips which we do quite often. and more importantly it lies around in the house for casual emailing and recipes n stuff and it needs charging every other week or so!something I couldnt get with the TF. however, coming from an android background Im constantly bored with it (the iPad) coz there s not much you can do with it. (try telling that to some filks who find it obligatory to start barking mad at the first person who says the "i" word )

The battery issues some have is as simple as installing the auto airplane app from the market. With moderate use of my TF, I can get just over a week of battery life. As far as browsing, in my case, opera has worked so well on every website that I've totally stopped using the stock browser. My sister has a Ipad2 and it totally blows compared to the TF for general use, which that is all apple products are good for in my eyes. I can't even imagine what the TF2 will be like.

And you're basing this whole "thought" of your netbook being faster on which loads a webpage better? Thats not an issue with the hardware, its more what web browser your are using on both. Even then mobile versions of full scale browsers are not the same. I just tested this with my Quadcore laptop at 2ghz compared to my N7. They both loaded at the same relative speed. You also have to factor in connection strength. The netbook will obviously have the better range distance while the N7 will have a weaker signal. I get my full 30Mbps on my latpop in my room whereas my N7 gets roughly 22mbps. You may want to base your "thoughts" on something a little more credible than loading a webpage next time.

thanks for your reply. I am not trying to be "credible" or "definitive" with my post, just making some empirical observations over the course of hours of N7 use. It is not based as you say on "a webpage". Its my sum total experience of web surfing with all of the top android browsers. My comparisons are with my wireless ap right adjacent to the N7 and netbook. Anyway, thanks for your input and running the comparison.

Then next time dont make it so ludacris. "OMGZ MY N7 IS SLOW COMPARED TO MY NETBOOK" Is not the way to ask things let alone your vague title. Better question would be "Why is my netbook better at web surfing than my N7?" There are still too many factors to justify it fairly. Both using different OS's as well as web browsing software. And im sure the laptop has the site cached if you visit that site more often. So does the android browser but obviously not as efficiently. In my experience my laptop has always been faster, but its not as convenient. My laptop is quite a nuisance to carry around so the N7 would obviously be the choice.

the N7 certainly does render web pages. you must be a nuube or a troll. Take a moment to learn how browsers and OS's work. your useless post is not helpful or appreciated. Why would you feel the need to bring your "cyber bullying" attitude into the discussion. I asked a reasonable question in a "questions forum" based on my experience with a netbook and the N7 side by side . Never said i didnt like the nexus. People made thoughtful responses until you blundered in. Take your vitriol elsewhere.

That's probably due to the fact that these forums are full of teenagers and college kids. However, your original post doesn't stray too far from some of the stupid threads these kids make.
To somewhat address your question: You've got 2 entirely different operating systems running 2 entirely different browsers on 2 different CPU architectures. I'm sure from that you could gather that due to various software limitations and the fact that Android is a mobile OS not originally designed for tablet use, it shouldn't surprise you that a full fledged desktop OS will outperform it in certain areas, even with old hardware.

The original post was not "stupid".
"it shouldn't surprise you that a full fledged desktop OS will outperform it ...." That is exactly my point, it does surprise me. I have studied the google android design philosophy briefings and the awesome N7 architecture, and see no reason why an old windoze netbook can compete with it. That was the motivation for my post.
