Eris MR2 is live - Droid Eris Android Development

Not sure yet if it is the same as the leak but here it is.
http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=126&cid=1&mid=353&carrier=Verizon Wireless
Tip its the same as the leak.

Is this confirmed or OTA Pushed? How do we trust this website? Maybe they are just posting the leaked image.

MD5 of both RUU's leaked and this one match 100%
8B10DA4A49F762584D806AC398368D39
If That website is a "Reputable Source" then it appears the rom Football leaked is 100% Legit as is this. Windows EXE Matches 100%

that site is where verizon wireless hosts its updates, download a software update for any other HTC phone from vzw and that is where it will take you

Nice, Good to know then it appears all of us earlier updaters are in the good. Perhaps a Mod can merge these threads under "Droid Eris MR2 Update Official" or something of the likes, maybe a sticky with all the Updates and there MD5?

Do i have to wipe my phone and all of it settings for this update?

yes per the website it will wipe your device

So, I guess we are getting another update before we get 2.x on Jan 22, or is this the update on Jan 22. I was told by HTC and three diff VZW techs the update on the 22nd is some form of 2.x.

Who knows.... I hope your right but I won't be holding my breath.

Me too, I wish this MR2 is just a "incase build" theyll release it if there not done with 2.0 for our device? Either way, if there is no clear upgrade path from the MR2, I guess thats what phone insurance is for oops lost my phone!

Legit
It's Legit Folks heres from the VZW PDF, also VZW confirms over the phone. Heres the Fix:
"Rare instances where the display locked or
appeared to be in an out-of-service state when
attempting to wake up the DROID ERIS from
screen saver mode no longer occurs"
http://support.vzw.com/pdf/DROID_ERIS_Update.pdf

Another Confirmation...
The 1.17.605... software is 100% supported by Verizon. I had issues with my phone freezing and called them. They are shipping a new device with this update on the phone...

What a waste.. all it fixes is one thing, and not even the important thing.

Not even the important thing? I take it you were one of the lucky ones whose touch screen stopped responding? Mine did it several times a week. Sometimes during calls I was waiting for and couldnt answer, only had to yank battery and reboot... waste of 5 mins to call back.

Mine did it like twice the whole time I had it. Not as big a deal as, say, the WiFi chip never working, ringtone sometimes not going off, or how about the YouTube app never playing any videos? Or the constant switching from 3G to 1X after sending or receiving a SMS, resulting in slapping the USB cable into the bottom twice as often as you should??

It was important to some of us. I have several threads on this. Obviously they got enough complaints to issue a fix.
Thanks.

OTA
Got this version as an OTA update last night. Hopefully what we heard about this being the update dropped on the 22nd was untrue; holding my breath for 2.1!

Just got the OTA as well. Forgot to grab a google link before i installed it though

Still don't see the new update on phone, even under the update section.

[Q] OTA update (when?)

I just bought my MT4G and have had it up and running for 9 hours now. It says I'm running Android 2.2, so I assume that means I have not received the OTA update yet. That wouldn't concern me, except my friend who got the phone the exact same time as me as already received the OTA notification. The only difference between the two phones is my friend's has been on Wi-Fi the whole time. Should that help, or is there something else I can do to request the update?
theres a thread on this, but U can't really do anything but wait. theres no rhyme or reason to when. Took my 3 days. doing *#*#checkin#*#* suppose to check for it, but didnt help me

After 48 hours you can call tech support and try to get on the batch push list. That will take up to 7 days, possibly. I just hit my 7 day period late last night -- still no update. Taking my phone in to swap it today since that was the next resolution the last call to tech support gave me.

Hmm that's discouraging. I'd really like to not have to bring my phone back in. Hopefully it shows up soon. If it hasn't within 48 hours, I'll call tech support. Thanks for the info.
It's surprising that my buddy got his update within a few hours and while connected to Wi-Fi. Cellular data wasn't working yet because his account hadn't been provisioned correctly, yet he still got the update before me!
You can force the update yourself now so it doesnt really matter either way... if you just want the update and not root just do the first half and stop when it gets into the rooting part... but the only reason i can think of for you wanting the update badly is so you can root it :/ but maybe not... anyway heres the instructions:

update available but download failure

just checked for updates on my fascinate as part of my weekly routine, but it started downloading and said download failure - network error. any help. im anxiously waiting a working gps galaxy s device before i spend the money on the car mount. plese help or any ideas just let me know.
Got the same thing last night at about 2am. Now it says there are no available updates. Oh well
every time ok check for updates it seems to check for a minute or so. then it stops and I get no answer...is this normal?

hey guys turns out after i failed update about 30 times i tried some tweaking and erased the radio file. when i spoke to verizon about the problems and to get a replacement phone the rep told me the update was for 2.2 and that they been waiting for it to come out. i dont know how true this is cuz i havent seen the fireworks yet online about the update, but ill find out today when i get the replacement device.
They have been telling people for months that 2.2 was out and you will receive a notification on your phone. I was told that when I bought mine on launch day. Its commonly referred to as bull Ishmael.

I had a similar problem. My phone downloaded it but failed the install. I called Verizon and they said this is a common problem. I am getting a new (Not refurb) shipped to me within a week. No harm no foul. I'd call Verizon.
My phone failed about 10 times to get DI01, and then one time it just worked. I recommend being stationary in an area with a few bars of 3G. Even then, it's a crapshoot. It doesn't mean your phone is defective or in need of replacement.
I consider myself lucky to have gotten a phone that has so far been free of the most of the problems that have plagued many of the galaxy s phones. Gps was fantastic on my phone until I flashed super clean v4... For some reason I often, though not always, had problems with gps not locking on. Location has always been spot on right from the start. Now with dj05 the gps issue has also been non existent.
The same was true when di01 came out. The OTA update was as smooth as could be. I was not rooted at that time.

Some of us can't install though and according to the Verizon tech I called it's certain MEID numbers so it's still not a bad idea to call I would say.
When I got DI01 it got partway through downloading a zillion times before finally working.
Ive flashed back to my factory images a few times after messing around (they were pre DI01...I keep forgetting to make current ones)
Every time I update it sucks and takes 5 to 10 tries
I think the servers are just teh suck.
Do you have to be stock in order to get the update? Every time I try to check for an update I get an FC. I'm currently running Stupidfast 1.1.23 Kernel & JT's Super Clean ROM. Also, is this update worth getting now or shall I just wait?

Eclair to Froyo: How often do phones check?

Hey all,
Quick question. Does anyone know how often or how our phones query the server for update checks? Is the software first downloaded before asking us if we want to upgrade? Does the sync icon light up while it is downloading? Does our battery charge need to over x to before the software either downloads and/or notify us?
I'm curious as to how the entire process works.
Thanks.

I have an Evo, but I follow the tech news. Software updates are released in waves so that if there are issues with an update, they are isolated and they can stop sending them out. Essentially, the first wave are the guinea pigs. I'm not sure how they decide who gets them, but I'm pretty sure it's random. You will be notified on your own when you can grab the update. It starts on the 21st and everyone should have the update by the 25th. Of course, you can probably just find the update online once it's out and do it yourself:

When the update is available to your phone, it will download it silently in the background. Once the download is complete, you will get a notification that an update is ready to install. As long as you have enough battery left, you will have the option to install it. Otherwise you will be prompted to plug into your charger.
As far as the frequency your phone checks for updates, I'm not sure other than at boot time.
Sent from an Epic I haven't bricked yet.
Also, I believe the updates are 'pushed', which is to say, Sprint contacts your phone directly not vice versa.
Given how infrequent updates are, having your phone poll for them would be a wasted process.
Our phones already poll for app updates through the market and the update is hosted on googles servers.
I don't think it is too far fetched that our phones are notified somehow through this process?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It would make sense, with the 'wave' method mentioned above, that it's just pushed. Thats the fun! Back when I used to odin to D*27 to let it OTA DI18, it would happen really randomly, anywhere from instant to half an hour... never waited longer though, as its open to request, I just 'check for updates' of it was taking too long. Either way, unless you are one of the first wave, I would wait for XDA's Devs to look over the one from the first wave, and then DL their update... Im sure they will get one from the first wave... I will probly Odin to DI18 tomorrow night and wait, just for fun, as I do agree there is an attraction to that, kind of like when you get a surprise PS3 update that gives you some new unlocked functionality... reminds you why you bought it... course with this phone, we would feel that way if it were more timely, but hey, theres the future...

I don't believe they would do it that way. A vast majority of users are on the latest while there is probably a minority who didn't update past DI07. They get the latest first and then get the stragglers in the later days.

A software update to EB13 (Froyo) is available for the Samsung Epic 4G via Google OTA. Customers will become eligible for the
upgrade across a 4-day period based on their status with the Google servers. 67% of users are currently on SW DI18 so the first
OTA package we will publish will be an upgrade from DI18 – Froyo (DL11). We will be publishing hop upgrades from DG27 – Froyo
and DI07 – Froyo as soon as possible following the initial release
OTA Duration time is dependent on current device usage: 10 – 25 minutes, with installation time of 6-8 minutes
from the leaked .pdf from the first day, after the screenshots. thanks to whoever leaked it! DI18 is priority, you cant really sit on the older versions, I think those 'hop updates' are for old stock sitting around with the old versions waiting to be activated. Oh and the DL11 is a typo, they just cut and pasted from a previous release most likely...

maybe it will be automatically updated with a script when they start the ota's. idk, just a guess.
UPDATE PROCESS: The software update will be delivered as a wireless download (over-the-air, or OTA) in waves starting on February 21. All Samsung Epic 4G owners should have access to the download by the end of the week (Feb. 25).
Once your Epic is in the queue and eligible to download the update, a message will be pushed to your device saying that a software update is available. If you are not yet in the queue and you attempt to check for a software update manually, you will receive a message saying “no upgrade is available”. This simply means your device isn’t in the current wave of updates.
All customers should have access to the update by the end of the week (Feb. 25).
just got this off sprint site.... so phones dont check... pushed, and you cannot even manually trigger it... I even Odin'd to DI18 a bit ago, to see if I could trigger it activating DI18... no dice. OK... whos in wave 1... cough it up!
Whosdaman,
Just curious, can I ask why contact you first? Are you aware of something I haven't read?
I'm rooted and rommed, but watching hubby's unrooted (won't let me touch or mess and screw up his!! Doesn't believe me I can fix whatever I break!!) Epic.
Really do appreciate someone looking out for everyone. I am going to hold on his until I see some positive results, because I can't fix what Sprint breaks!!

Sprint Reps say DON'T update to 2.2! lol

So I went to the sprint store today cuz my battery took a ****. The repair guy was telling everyone not to run the OTA update to 2.2, apparently it's bricking phones and breaking camera. He said Sprint will have their own update in a couple weeks. I lol'd as I walked out with my deodexed rooted EB13...

Loving the official 2.2. 12hrs unplugged so far and 60% battery left. Usually my exchange email kills it during the day since the tower is overloaded downtown with awesome 20-60 kilobit speeds. So my 3g radio gets a work out constantly trying to communicate.

I'm skeptical that they are still rolling it out in force... My mom and sister have yet to get it. I'm just sitting on dk28 for a bot myself so I'm not sure how eb13 is actually performing... The forum posts don't make me particularly optimistic
i can believe it, it was a ***** for me to update my phone using odin and the eb13 tar, it just would not work, my phones screen kept turning a different color like purple or green then odin would just freeze. Tried another computer and was able to do it using the samsung .exe file and it wiped everything and i thought i was good, running real quick and snappy, but i opened the camera and went to record a video with it and as soon as i hit the button to switch to video i got an error saying the camera has crashed and it kicked me out :/ I thought, according to sprint, that we waited this long so they could iron out the bugs and make sure there was a release that was worth of releasing!
This official release is flawless for me. I did get the orange screen thou with the samsung tool, I just reran it and its 100 % flawless. Recorded vids with no issue.
could this be the EVO curse we were dreading?
Btw. Everyone owes a oppology to noobl. Remember he warned us about the leak dk28 bricking some phones? And some in here claimed the epic is unbrickable? Uhhuuu... Everyone... Form a single line and appologize.
I don't know how to prove that the phone was bricked, but it definitely was. It got stuck at param.lfs (or whatever that file extension is) in odin, so I retried it a few times, next thing I knew it would not turn on. He should be swapping it at the sprint store tommorow I think.

I was on DK28 and since I followed instructions correctly, my phone is still in working condition. HA!
That's misinformation from the store. Here's the deal with the update... Yes, it's still being pushed and all devices should have it by Friday. There have been some reports of issues with the camera and browser force closing but those are resolvable in most cases with a hard reset (sucks I know). I haven't seen any reports of a phone that was truly bricked, although custom roms will be more likely to have issues with the OTA update. I've personally updated 8 of these both OTA and with the Samsung installer and haven't had an issue with any of them after the update.
Currently looking for a custom rom though because I don't like some of the changes that were made. It does feel like the screen is a bit laggy after the update and I hate the new messaging app but overall no performance issues

lol. Me too. I used the 200mb samsung tool. No old odin with modified eb13 deodexed junk. Follow instructions nerds!
I'm not buying it. I know there are isues out there (myself included) but I would think if it was a serious problem we would have people on the forums saying it happened to them by now.
I updated my phone via the Samsung .exe file which I knew would wipe my phone which wasn't a problem for me since I use gmail to keep records of my contacts, call logs / sms (using sms backp+) and etc. So no worries there. I did get a little miffed about losing the apps but that is expected for a phone wipe.
There are few quirks and some changes in the GUI I didn't like. Big issue is the stupid SMS client they had to change so will be looking for a altnative version for it. No big deal but why change something when it works in DI18??
Screen rotation lag is fixable via screen calibration (posted elsewhere in this forums).
Least now the Devs have the source code they should be coming out with some nice ROMs soon. Rumored for Sprint to come out with an update in a couple of weeks? Not worried about it, by then most of us will be on custom ROMs anyway.

flashing kills the balls out of the battery. i have had a fully charged battery die in half an hour running odin multiple times trying things out. id bet almost anything that if you had an external charger to throw your battery in for a bit the phone would boot in to download mode with no problems.

Worst AT&T Tech chat ever, but revealed some strange things going on with 1.83

EDIT 2: It appears to be up OTA so connect to wifi and check for an update!
Edit for those who just came here to figure out what was going on with 1.83:
It would appear that some sort of error occurred in which the beta of 1.83 was released OTA to a few people and to even more through the computer connect update software. This is why people were reporting that they had had success downloading the new update. However it was not available for everyone and appears to have been pulled completely. Things were made more confusing because AT&T and Motorola both appeared to make some false claims that the new update was beginning its release on April 29th. However this was a mistake and they later retracted their claims either by deleting the comment altogether or saying that they meant that the beta would be released to limited amounts of people at that time. This appears to be the cause of all of the confusion, but the bottom line is that the official update is NOT out yet, and if you want the 1.83 beta that others have gotten, check around, it isn't too hard to find!
Original post:
So I came across an AT&T answers page actually listing 4.1.83 on the site which said it was available and all I had to do was connect to wifi and check for updates to get it.
So I think "SWEET!" and try it, but still no luck
By this time I figure alright if AT&T is listing this but it's not up may as well go ahead and bother their tech support for a while and see if I get any answers
They take a LONG time to answer my question and eventually tell me that there is no 1.83 update. To which I reply "Excuse me, BS, here is exactly what YOUR site says" -copy, paste, and post link to it-
They take a long time, then completely ignore it and tell me to access my phones settings and tell them what software version I am running.
Meanwhile I get a little suspicious about whats going on and open a new window and follow the link I sent them.
It had been edited WHILE I was talking to them! The 1.83 part had been completely taken out. All that was left was the 1.57 update. The tech support person continued to play dumb and tell me there was only a 1.57 update and that I could contact motorola if I had any more issues.
I'll post a screenshot of what the site said when I accessed it this morning. I don't know if the info on that page is old news to these forums or when it even went up, but At&T certainly has their heads up their asses.
Oops, forgot about that mention. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Did you tell them there are even websites with benchmarks out there like
Anandtech?

I talked with them a bit more after posting.
I told them that this was not a Motorola issue, and that I now wanted to know what had happened with the AT&T site and that I saw that it had been edited. They continued to post more Motorola contact info and asked if they could help me in any other way.
I told them that they could start by actually reading what I was typing to them, and repeated that the page had been edited. I am subjected to more waiting until finally the associate tells me they "didn't see" the second update before, but now they know what I am talking about. The page is still edited so I have no idea how they saw it right then... but yeah.
They then ask me to connect to wifi and try to perform the update. Told them I already did. They then say, that maybe AT&T recalled the update and tell me to wait. I wait. Then they come back asking if I have contacted motorola, I tell them no. They then link me to a post in motorolas forums and tell me to check there.
The thread I am linked to is merely people complaining about the same page on AT&T that I was referring to in the first place... with no answer on it as to what was going on, when I point this out the associate remains silent. I continue to do other things on my computer checking back every few minutes. After 10 minutes of silence I go ahead and tell them that I could see that they were not even going to try to help me and closed out the conversation.
Disappointing, though I am now reasonably certain that I am the reason the page got edited haha
OTA
So do we know if anybody has gotten the update OTA or has it all been "self-help" installation. AT&T changing their website makes it appear delays to OTA update. Question remains, is it becuase of AT&T or Motorola?
That's classic, I wonder what they would say if I walked into a store and asked about the 1.83 update, especially since I have it on my phone already so I can prove it exists.

Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
If you check the motorola owners forums, they say the update hasnt officially been publicly released although, many ppl besides beta testers were able to snag the update before it seemed to have been pulled. You can always download the 1.83 SBF thats floating around and flash to it.
Nothing new here. AT&T sticking thier heads and the sand and ignoring the customer. Can not/will not even respond to direct legitimate questions. Maybe it is time to try to get their attention another way. here is the link where you can post comments to the FCC concerning their attempt to monopolize. http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/ecfs/
I think everybody that has an issue with at&t's customer support, rate plans, crippling devices, false advertising, etc., that have tried to get answers or support with no satisfaction should make these issues known. If the congressional reps on the committees start asking the same questions we have, then maybe, just maybe, att will understand we are customers, and not just a source of income. Maybe I should start a thread just for this so we get as many people as possible to send their thoughts along.
I've been running 1.83 since the 29th and I'm not a beta tester. I actually got it by downloading the Motorola software Updater from here http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSummary.asp?country=USA&language=ENS&web_page_name=SUPPORT&strCarrierId=ATT&strPhone=Motorola%20ATRIX(TM)%204G&strCable=Micro%20USB%20Data%20Cable&strURL=https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download/SoftwareUpdateforATTATRIX4Gversion.4.1.57.pdf.
All I did was plug my phone in and it looked for an update for like 5 minutes then said there was one available and asked if I wanted to install it (Of course yes) 15 min later it was done. I actually flashed back to 1.26 3 times and updated to 1.83 like this because I messed up root (Come to find I just needed gingerbreak). Some people can't get it so I'm not sure if they took it down from moto or what the deal was. Everything on the page says 1.57 but it still let me update to 1.83 multiple times so I donno.

I'm pretty sure it was the morning of the 29th.
It was working, but has since been pulled. I saw both the AT&T page as well as the Moto update. Neither are working now.
Ima stop by the store and inquire about it there, see how interesting that conversation is as soon as I'm done at the gym since there's an official att store right next door, talk about convenient.

Same here...I got the update from the moto site on the morning of the 29th.
Well, that turned out to be as pointless as I expected it to be, no one had any clue what I was talking about or why the update would be there one minute then all traces be gone the next. Their only suggestion was maybe there was a bug in it.

From what i've read, i'm guessing the 1.83 update is still in beta testing, but for some reason someone in ATT's dev team messed up and relayed it as "release" to another ATT team and motorola, who put it up on their websites as available for download without further questioning. If anyone got it through OTA, they might have been part of the first wave before someone in ATT realized the mistake and pulled the update out.
Then ATT decided to go for a "what update?" policy instead of "whoops."
