Hi
Has anyone in the UK checked if the Google Navigation app works yet? I understand it hasn't previously worked in the UK and is still "coming soon".
I use Sat Nav a lot. Can anyone recommend any alternatives for when I get my N1? (free or not free).
There was a hack to make it work worldwide for the G1
If you wait long enough (it shouldn't be too long) I'm sure one will be introduced for the N1 aswell.
BTW. Check out AndNav. I used it a bit, didn't seem too bad for free.

Google Navigation works in UK. I was in London and it was pretty good.
Anyway I live in Ireland and works here as well... but by the looks of it I thik it works for the whole Europe.
I personally am a big fan of CoPilot and on the Nexus One works great.

Google Navigator doesn't work for me here in Stoke-on-Trent out of the box.
So do we know whether it works or not? It does in London but not in Stoke?
Hmmm, I got navigation not available when I tried it but now I am getting google maps directions instead.
Wonder if its because I have GPS off.

I was using Copilot version 5 for a while before the GPS problem came in to prevent me using it, but that's another story.
The question that I want to ask is, with version 6, were you able to see the addresses in your address book? With version 5 I was not able to do that. Instead of listing the names in address book like it used to under windows mobile 2003, it merely asks me to enter the state and city, but worst is that the keyboard is not there for me to make any entry (both copilot's own keyboared and WM5's keyboard were missing).

Keyboard worked perfectly for me and I was able to navigate to a contact's address. If I didn't answer your question let me know. I've since installed CoPilot on my girlfriends Universal and can check into things for you.
Has any one of you used copilot with either ozVGA or MvRTVGA? I found two problem:
a. It occupies only 1/4 of the screen.
b. when using the Option Menu, only the first tab can be edited. All the other tabs have gone missing.
Come across this problem? How do you fix them?
Thanks.

I'll double that bet and say get IGO as it's even more superior than tomtom6
I can confirm that T-Mobile now stock the Ameo with Co Pilot,
I've received it today. Yet to install it though, will do that later and tell you if I have the same problems regarding screen size and options. I have been told that this was a fault recognised which is why there was a delay in release and the box clease says "now compatible with T-Mobile Ameo" so perhaps a software update..?
Gives you a okay quality mount to put the item in the car, and a car charger also.
Plus I like some of the trace facilities that Co-Pilot has to offer over TomTom Buddies

Never used co-pilot, but iGo beats TomTom with a ****ty stick. It's just more polished, faster to load maps, re-calculates routes quicker.
If you want to try it to compare then it is available on torrent. Although I'm not condoning that type of activity mind you.

Yes, I hope they come out with US maps soon. I would love to give it a try. Just curious as to the accuracy of the product. Looking good is one thing, but getting you where you need to be is another alltogether.
I remember that CoPilot wasn't that accurate based on my experience. So far TomTom has been great.

I-go is much faster and smoother and the routing is far better (largely because you can customise it much more than TomTom). The only thing TomTom does better is traffic (which is not available for I-go)

But to use TMC you need an RDS TMC decoder, which the Ameo does not have. Also, note that TMC messages can be hacked:http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=54812

Eeek - the interface looks terrible!
I am thinking of Getting or the HTC dream (G1phone) or the HTC Touch Pro.
This is cause i spend a lout of time outside of buildings (traveling).
Is it Possible to install TomTom Nav on the G1? or is there a good Nav Program that can be installed on it (that covers Europe, mainley Holland where I live)?
Hope to get good news:
Steven
Sorry, I misread before voiting. I'd love to see a TomTom app but right now there's no real option for navigation. AndNav is stuck in europe and 1Click does not re-reoute real time.
I have bad GPS reception where I am (Locale Hates it unfortunately =[)
I hope there's a voice based GPS system available for the G1 soon, it'd be brilliant for biking around the UK
Maybe someone can be nice enough to like build one that works well (i mean someone like the companies self), cause you never know, Android can be the future
Non Of the above - I pick Copilot
I'm hoping Garmin will come out with mobile xt for android.
Actually i am hoping that Any good Nav program can be brought out for the G1
cause i travel a lot for my sport and i am not good in remembering the roads..... especially from the Netherlands to ........... well anywhere in Europe
I just contacted TomTom.... so we will see what they say

Sent a message to Garmin as well (Magellan stinks). So far, just got automated responses saying that they will reply within 2 business days.
so IF they keep their word we will know in about 2 days
i mean 2 working days..... who knows when they are working
Garmin is coming out with their own phone sometime in the future... I know they have a lot of employees but i don't see it coming soon... I don't want to be a debbie downer, but don't think they will... I know someone on androidcommunity.com had talked to them, but can't remember what they said and can't find it. Sorry, but google should give us a good one.
I have read from the android community, that Garmin will be installed on android with their own device at the half of this year (About July, August). I hope Garmin will be avalible and for G1 too.

Dear Mr. Demei,
For the moment we will continue developing the existing software, that is for Windows Mobile and Symbian.
If, in the future it will be possible to create software compatible with other operating systems, you will find all the information regarding the products on our website.

A while ago I saw someone release turn-by-turn gps for android- can't remember which it was- well, it wasn't released but a to-be-released preview......
This is not the version that's on android market! It will only work on the 3Uk network! Not officially available from 3. Works on desire, nexus & so on...
pisses me off that Skype has become provider specific!
Thank you very much, this is the app that i'm waiting for.
i guess it was to be expected since it is for "3", but i tried it anyway...
it tells me to disable wifi then can't connect to my account *shrug*
Is this actually *real* Skype, i.e. voice over IP, or is it still that cobblers that still uses the voice network and calls a telephone number?
I can confirm that it does not work for 3 Ireland.
I know you said it wouldn't.

What software and maps to instal on Wildfire for Europe?
Google Maps, Navigon
You could use Google Maps and Navigon.. Google Maps comes with the Wildfire, and I just installed Navigon on my girlfriend's Wildfire now without any trouble. Probably a lot of other ones too.. Doesn't TomTom have a map thing for Android as well?
I have installed Sygic Mobile Maps 10 and works fine for me.
Gps software
I shortly had a look at NDRIVE, which seems to work as sat nav should.
Its not in dutch, yet so that puts me of a bit.
I read some rumors on tom tom coming with its version for android, i hope the become fact very soon.
I installed Sygic mobile maps and activate smm10 europe but i dont have maps
I personally use CoPilot.
Can you pm me link for copilot?

GPS Solution for India and free Google Nav for US and outside
Firstly SKYE MENJOU .. Nice to see someone helping out ppl here .. keep it up buddy..
There are no India MAPS for Copilot and nothing for Igo too..really sad as both are nice apps.. I haven't tried much with Navigon so no idea about that..
MAPS ARE AVAILABLE FOR:::
NDrive and Sygic GPS .. used both but i liked Sygic GPS .. only issue is the male voice for English directions i would have loved a female voice.. ANYHOW..here is an important piece of Info:: SYGIC GPS also has no maps for India but you can download a compatible map from MAPmyIndia that works perfectly with Sygic..
Free stuff::
We all love free stuff so for all those who are interested in free google navigation ..yes i mean people outside U.S as it is officially available in US but google has conveniently ignored rest of the world:::GO HERE

The success of voice guidance will depend on the way you pronounce things. That will be the main problem, as most Indians think they speak perfectly understandable English when in fact, they don't....

I had the same question. I have a Moto Milestone and I've been using Igo MyWay for quite a long time. I like it cuz it supports a map of Colombia with the latest poi's. ANy help will be appreciated.
Now it's the three of us whose looking for the same thing I don't even mind a good navigation app that supports 540 x 960?
Get the app "HD Wallpapers" they all work on the Atrix's resolution.
I'm on the same boat!!!
I need a good app that works on Atrix (similar to iGo) and that supports Colombia maps and poi's. Help needed!
Thanks
Any brilliant thoughts so far?

Yep, iGo is the best for Middle East. It was absolute winner for Israel until Waze, for now Waze (which is Israeli development) is believed to be the best option for Israel (it's also have good map for US from my experience, and as i heard for a major EU countries), plus it's 100% free (and works well in qHD too), the only problem is that you need to be online to use it normally, it does not works well offline. I don't know how well it supports other ME countries though, but it may be worth checking it.

But I can't found (use ES folder explorer) any way even do what tool i need to edit

I am sure a developer can create a qHD version if we create an incentive donation fund? (I've seen custom resolutions for other phones created by devs).
I would be willing to chip in 5$ for the cause.
So, if you really want it, lets start a thread and chip in for a dev to make one for us!
