Following Google page states 802.11n:
http://www.google.com/phone/static/en_US-nexusone_tech_specs.html
Following HTC page incorrectly omits 802.11n and shows 802.11b/g:
http://www.htc.com/www/product/nexusone/specification.html
Using SwiFTP 1.12 and a D-Link DIR-825 with a PC directly wired to the wireless AP via GbE, I get the following results:
Code:
ftp> put 1.0-update-nexusone-modacocustomrom-core-signed.zip
200 PORT OK
150 Data socket ready
226 Transmission complete
ftp: 68512910 bytes sent in 32.87Seconds [B][COLOR="Red"]2084.36Kbytes/sec.[/COLOR][/B]
ftp> quit
WPA2-PSK using AES-only.
I'm too lazy to look at the Broadcom specs but from the looks of it, it's definitely a 1x1 WiFi radio seeing it's only a 65Mbps link at 100% signal strength.

Neither of those links you gave shows Wireless-N and it has already been confirmed that it has Wireless N & FM t capability just like the iPhone 3GS and newest iPod Touch, but none of these devices have it enabled.
My nexus hasn't been able to see my N network. Although, mine is set to run in 5gHz and I see yours is running 2.4gHz Going to try switching to 2.4 and see if that works.

Looks like Google removed the references to 802.11n. It was there on the page the first few days it was up. I assure you, 802.11n is enabled on the stock Nexus One.

Doesn't work for me.... Also don't see why they would remove or fail to list an advantage.
11n is definately not enabled - the N1 can't even see my N network.
btw. "2084.36Kbytes/sec." is well within 11g speeds.. it's about 16Mbps.
Its been removed from the Google site now...

So why is the link speed 65Mbps? That's not within 54G specs.
That's what your router says.. it's not the speed you're getting, so I wouldn't trust it.
I've set my router into N only mode. The N1 connects at 65Mbps - which, as has been pointed out - is an N speed, not a G speed. No G device connected to the router when it was in this mode. The router reported the N1 as connected at 802.11N.
My N1 has an 802.11N radio, no question.
I doubt it actually needs or can fully use that speeds, but that's another matter.
Now I'm sort of tempted to setup another router that is N only just for the N1, BTW. That radio locked on to the N only router faster than I've ever seen it pick up any access point, including the same one in mixed mode.
I would have to agree, the Nexus One has an 11n radio in it.
Reason I know this is all last night and this morning I didn't have 3G (I now do at this time after logging into TMOs website), so I had to connect to my Linksys WRT600N.
WRT600N is running the latest DD-WRT...and I'm currently broadcasting N and A only with WPA2 Personal (AES/TKIP). On top of that, I am only running one of the two APs in my router, the one using the 5GHz band only.
theres an easy way to test it. Go into router settings and set your Wirless setting to 802.11n only, then check to see if the nexus one connects to it.

No, it's the negotiated speed. a G device would never negotiate 65
Not sure how you get more definitive than this:
ifixit teardown:

Wireless chip is a BCM4329. FM Transmitter and receiver. Neat!
BCM4329 Specs:
http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Solutions/BCM4329
There's no doubt the chipset is N capable (whether it's setup that it could be enabled in software is yet to be determined). However is is *not* enabled. Both HTC and Google say this. Testing shows that if you switch a network into N only mode the phone cannot see it.. what more do you need?

According to the anecdotal evidence provided above, it is enabled, but not dual-band, just 2.4ghz.
Note:I don't have a Nexus yet, just summing up other people's observations.

I did a search for WIFI, and only found some few 1,892,361 threads. It was a little daunting, so here I am wondering if we have a One-Stop-Shopping WIFI sticky that will break down how to use the WIFI on my X01HT.
I can see my home network with my TyTN. After I enter in the network key I'm still locked out without an explanation (yes I verified the key is correct). My TyTN just goes back to seeing my network as available
Soooo I'm thinking that I'm not the only person with WIFI issues. Sticky ... someone?

There are several open networks around me (i live in an apartment building on the second floor) but I cannot connect with any of them
as an experiment try this..
exp 1. on your phone, go to connections and make sure you choose the "My Isp" connection (just in case your provider uses proxy, this wont prevent you from connecting to your router, but if a successful connection is made, it can prevent you from browsing)
exp 2. Turn off the security on your router and try to connect again.. this will help determine what is causing the issue, maybe its the phone, maybe its the encryption...
if neither of the above work then try this..
exp 3. put the phone in flight mode, then turn on the wifi and try to connect..
and i havent seen to many issues with the hermes and the linksys wrt54g, however i know there have been several other users with different phones have issues with these routers... but i think we can get you figured out here...

Lol ... I followed your instructions but a new problem came up last night. In the process of 'fixing" my WIFI issues I "fixed" my wireless network ... it ain't working now either
I'm going to host a new thread looking for wrt54g/hermes users to share with me their settings. I'll even add a paypal bounty for the post that fixes my woes.
I'm posting through a neighbor's WIFI connection right now which means I should be able to pick up this same connection with my hermes right? Not!?!?!?
SO now I have managed to not hook up my new toy and kill my own wireless network all in one night *shakes his empty valium bottle with a look of longing*. I think this is why God invented prosac.
For the record, reception of WiFi on the Hermes is really not terribly strong. That might be your problem all by itself.

I'd go to linksys.com and download./install the latest firmware. Make sure you reset everything back to factory defaults and start from scratch.
My Wizard and my Hermes, both on WM6, work with WEP on the Linksys wrt54G and my sonicwall tz150. Personally I prefer DLink now for low end wireless routers/access points but that's me

My Nexus 7 doesn't seem to connect in wireless n. Here's the situation. When my router (Linksys WRT300N) is in mixed mode 2.4GHZ , the Nexus connects fine (using WPA2 security) with a link speed of 54Mbps. If I change the router to Wireless N only (2.4GHZ) , the Nexus can't connect. The Nexus sees the router and I put in the password but it won't connect Now, my HTC Sensation works fine in Wireless N only mode. So is my Nexus only connecting in G?
Anyone else having this issue?

Same here, my Nexus 7 won't connect over 54Mb/s, laptop and Epic 4g touch will just fine. I'm starting to think that either jellybean is broken, or they lied about the wifi capability of the nexus 7.
Mine says 65 mbps so it seems to be on 802.11n (note that this chipset doesn't have 40 mhz channel support so 65 mbps is the maximum). I have a Cisco E4200 router.

I have the exact same router and had connectivity issues. If you're familiar with flashing stuff, goto Dd-wrt and flash the aftermarket firmware (read everything!). Fixed all my problems and UI is much better than Linksys' limitations.
Good luck!

Not so sure its the router
I have this problem too on my Nexus 7.
I've a Netgear DGN3300 which is a/b/g/n 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. My Samsung Galaxy 2 phone connects at speeds up to 65Mbs fine. My Nexus 7 refuses to connect at anything abover 54Mbs. My laptop connects all the way up to 300Mbs with no problem.
I can have just my phone connected at 65Mbs and nothing else using Wi-Fi and still the Nexus refuses to connect at anything beyond 54Mbs.
While I accept it may be a router problem, with a phone and a laptop connecting fine at N speeds and the Nexus 7 not... it looks like a Nexus 7 issue to me.
If its not really capable of consistently making Wi-Fi N connections then it shouldn't be advertised as such.
Please change encryption type from TKIP to AES from your router settings, and you will have 72 Mbps......
My Wi-Fi is already set to AES which is why my phone works fine at greater than 54mbs speeds.
The N7 simply refuses to connect at anything more than 54mbs.
Maybe I have a faulty N7

All but one of 5 access points I tested at home are set to N only. The WRT54 was not. I have no problem connecting to it and getting good speed while having only a good connection...
At work the access points are set to mixed mode for the very wide selection of devices that need to connect to it though.

FWIW, same problem here. If I put my dd-wrt wrouter into NG mixed mode, my nexus 7 connects fine. If I go to N only, in any frequency, it won't connect. Security is set to WPA2 and AES encryption. It can see the network, but won't attempt to authenticate. I have tried setting a static ip as well. It worked in mixed mode, but not n only.
My other samsung phone connects to the n just fine. There is without a doubt something wrong with the nexus 7.
for those with problems... can you see if the wireless N channel width is set to auto or 20mhz or 40mhz in your settings? If it's set to 40mhz can you try 20 or auto?

I got VPN working on my shield... Quality is pretty good over LTE although with a lot more audio delay but that could just be LTE.

Step 2. Press file -> new -> New Incoming Connection. Mirror settings below
Select user that you use. This will have the same user/pass as your computer
Step 3. Go to settings on your shield. Go to more -> vpn -> plus button (you may have to set a pin or pattern if you don't already)
Enter a name, your external ip address (or dynamic dns)
Step 5. Open the port TCP 1723 and GRE on your router. On fios actiontec this can be found in Port Fowarding and using the "PPTP" preset service.
Step 6. Click the new VPN entry on your Shield. Login and if all goes well it should say "Connected" YAY!
Great instructions, but my streaming PC isn't being detected.
NICE! Thanks.
should be noted that PPTP issn't secure. Same works for me via IPSec
Oh. My. God. I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN!!! My Galaxy Note ll has full bars of T-Mobile LTE at my job. (Speedtests of 40MB/s and above). My home internet is 170mb/s and above. This is PERFECT! (Also note that the G-Note ll has unlimited data tethering as I work for TMO lol).

I probably do not have the same router, so the configuration isn't going to be the same. either way, I'm doing it over the phone because my ISP won't give configuration privileges, even if you have your own router.
what model router do you have? Also it will still be port forwarding and General Routing Encapsulation that need to be configured.
I have a comtrend Nexuslink 3100u. Its the isp's provided modem/router.
I never got the GRE setting figured out. So I tried setting an IP range in the IPv4 properties of the incoming. I now have a VPN, but I still can't access my streaming PC.
I've noticed after I got connected through the VPN my geforce PC was coming up as offline when I looked but when I tried to launch steam it seemed to work and launch all my games, it can get a little funky though sometimes it just won't work other times it works fine
Yup. I've been toying with it a bit now and I got it to work. I could probably use a bit more upload speed on the local side.
Am I reading this right? Does this allow usage of the streaming feature while not being local?
As mentioned above it says sound is way off, but what about the video?

I seem to have a problem if I'm a certain distance from my house on 4g hotspot it always disconnects in the middle of a game, could it be because of my home internet connection

That's awesome to hear, especially since in my experience my hotspots tend to have a higher latency than regular connections. By the way after the audio update how is the audio sync with video on your hotspot? What would you estimate your average latency to be from your input to action taking place in game?

The file in my etc folder has ccode=GB which I assume is Great Britain. However, it allows the channels that my wifi router EA4500 is using on the 5ghz channel. So no luck on recognizing the 5 ghz network still.
I downloaed wifi analyzer and looked at my network. By default my router and I assume all the ones in my neighborhood use channel 1 on 2.4ghz. I just switched to channel 12 and there hasn't been any issue for the past hour i.e. no unstable connection warning from the phone. Just downloaded a 40MB file without any glitches at good speed. Will report back if the problem comes back.
Edit: Spoke too soon. Unstable connection warning back in a couple of hours. The interesting thing is that both my old Note 1 (N7000) and my wife's S4 can see and connect to the 5ghz SSID just fine and of course have no unstable connection notifications which seem to be an 'enhancement' in the note 3! Sigh Haven't even rooted the N9005 because of the knox flag or I would have played a bit with the wlan configs in the etc folder. Guess will have to wait for Samsung to come around to admitting a problem and then fixing it.
I've been having the same issue with my RT-AC66U.

I also have a RT-AC66U... and I'm connected fine with my Note 3.
go into your wifi settings and make sure that the third checkbox is not checked.
Name in french of this box is "Basculement réseau auto"...
With this setting enabled, my wifi is unstable even if the signal power is full.
Also make sure that you have the latest firmware on your router.
Try channel 48. Dont use those channels 160+, may not be supported.
I'm using an AC66U.

Thanks, I had same problem with my Note 3 not finding 5ghz and switching the 5ghz channel to 48 did the trick.
Over the past day or two I've noticed the download speeds on my Z5 to be slower than my other devices on WIFI. I'm not sure if it's cause and effect or just a coincidence but my phone fell 2ft/70cm when it slid off a table and fell onto timber flooring landing directly on it's back.
The phone has a case but I've done a factory reset and the problem still persists. Perhaps I've damaged the antennas but my mobile data appears to have had no change in speeds. The speeds varied on my phone over these 2 days ranging from 1-3mbps compared to the normal 6mbps i get.
Check your modem/router frequency that it use to send out the WiFi signal, and if you can change the frequency of your modem or router then change it to something else and do a Speedtest.
With a app called Wifi analyser you can see which frequency band is best to use when you connected to your Wifi.
If none of the above steps helps, then I have no idea what it could be, my Wifi works great anyway, getting 11 mb/s download speed from my modem.

Z5 connects to AC router with 866Mbit/s speed.
Speedtest reaches 100Mbit/s with ease on Z5.
Check your router.

Yep same as you, in addition if other devices are connected to the same band at slower speed they will also kill the speed of any other devices on that band

No the case won't affect this, in addition what are you actually talking about, your speed has gone to crap accessing files within your network, or are you talking about the internet. Because there are so many variables that can affect internet speeds, and a huge percentage of them are fully beyond your control.
I ran some speed tests at a friend's house to see what was going on and it seemed to show similar speeds against my friend's devices also connected on WIFI. I'm suspecting it to be a problem with my router but will run a few more tests with a borrowed router.
I am having problem with wifi, it says connected, but no internet access.
This is happening lately, mostly after last update .182
I don´t know but since then I have restarted my router for three times now, on laptop I don´t have any issues.
Speedtest gives me 219/200mbit/s on my z5 compact, could be better but it's acceptable for a phone

Speeds aren't bad for me. Relatively Cheap router. I have slightly higher speeds on my Laptop.

Other than home (which does not have any issue) I do not connect to other wifi. But on my recent travel, i've had the same issue as you connecting to various places which has wifi. I believe its due to router settings mostly.

I'm getting the opposite - mine's a disconnection issue. No WiFi connection issues but when I leave the house my E6653 sometimes fails to drop the WiFi connection for mobile data so I'm miles away with "Connected, No Internet" with a bang (!) next to the WiFi icon for my home SSID - far out of range! Turning WiFi off and on again sorts this out, i.e. mobile data connects instead.
Anyone else?
It seems fine for me but bluetooth and wifi on at the same time causes some imense lag.

My Z5 has BT on 24/7 (paired with smartwarch 3) and no WiFi lag.
Change channel on WiFi.
Channel 1 can mess up BT and vice versa.
I had to disable 5Ghz band on my router to connect a few ipcams. They do work now. But am I destined to have 5ghz band disabled if I want the ipcams to work?

Don't use same name on the the 2 networks, and make the ipcams connect to the 2.4GHz band.
Eg: 2.4GHz is named [email protected] and 5GHz is named [email protected]_5GHz, also disable band steering (if your router/ap supports it) if the cameras are supposed to be 5GHz "compatible" but actually don't work on it.
