Backup and restore Footprints between flashes - HD2 General

The thread title pretty much says it all. I searched but cannot figure out where the footprints data is being stored. I hate losing them all when I flash a new rom.
Anyone know carry old footprints over from before a flash?

Chapter 11 Finding and Recording Places
Exporting footprints to your storage card
Back up your footprints by exporting them to your storage card.
You can back up all your footprints or back up by category. Separate backup files for each category will be saved on your storage card. You can also export a single footprint only.
1. On the Home screen, slide to the Footprints tab.
2. Tap Footprints at the bottom of the screen.
3
. You need to be on the appropriate screen to choose what you want to back up.
To back up all footprints, you need to be on the All Footprints tab.
To back up a category of footprints, slide to the tab of the category that you want (for example, Dining).
To back up just one footprint, tap the desired footprint first.
. Tap Menu > Export.
Importing footprints from your storage card
You can import footprints from a backup file on your storage card back to your phone. You can also share your backup file to other people who has HTC Footprints on their phone so they can use your footprints.
1. On the Home screen, slide to the Footprints tab.
2. Tap Footprints at the bottom of the screen.
. On the All Footprints tab, tap Menu > Import.
If footprints on your phone are the same as the ones on the backup file, you can choose whether to keep or overwrite the footprints on your phone.

Ah, another fine example of RTFM.

I am duely shamed
Thanks rajmund

Small tip!

Heres how you can organise your programs view (Start->Programs)...
1. Use your normal file explorer and move all your shortcuts into separate folders (stuff like Media, Utils, Connectivity, Office etc.)
2. You can assign an icon for each folder by creating a shortcut in each folder and naming the shortcut as "icon.lnk"
You can do this easily by choosing any one of the available shortcuts and duplicating it...and then renaming the file to icon.lnk
3. I've used VJDialerSms to create a folder called speed dials with sub folders having all my important speed dial shortcuts in separate categories!
silly tips, but i just took some time out and did it....now i have a cleaner and less cluttered Programs menu which makes seaching for my apps so much easier!
Well worth the time spent imo
Cheers,
San
Please note that an extensive start menu will slow the machine down. This is because the operating system will have to search for the icons in each of the linked executables.
For example if you have Skype in your start menu (directly or as a shortcut) you will notice a long delay before the start menu opens. This is because the icon is at the end of the executable, and the Skype executable is over 5 MB big.
So the answer is to prune your start menu from all programs you don't ever need, rather than to fill it with nice to have stuff.
I personally use SmallMenu. What I did is leave everything as it is on my device and copied the shortcuts on my SD card and sort them all out there in different folders. I then use SmallMenu's function to launch them there. By doing it this way, I have the functionality of the Start Menu plus the flexibility of SmallMenu. No delays in lauching either. I was hesitant to disarranged anything in my Start Menu because some applications pops up a warning that it is needed to stay in that folder, although you can still move it and it seems to work anyway, but it still makes me paranoid that it may cause any dead shortcuts or functionality.
Why not give GSPocketMagic++ a try?
(use the english cab from the download)
Still the best around. Also works on WM2005.
Then in Option > Setting... > Program Menu point folder to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and organize your menu structure in there. Also select "Break menu items"
Also the Control Panel applets are directly selectable from GSPocketMagic++. You can still use the original "start menu" if you tap slightly right from the GSPocketMagic++ menu button.
Cheers

Changing TF3D Photos and Videos album location

Hey
I want to store my photos and videos on my storage card. I have changed this setting in the advanced menu on the camera settings but now i can't see them when i flick through the photos on the TF3D photos and videos screen.
Is it possible to change the folder location settings so that it shows my photos on the TF3D screen?

Hi There,
You can store your photos on yoru storage card then go to TF3D photos and select Album - then select Albums - you should have the option to select your Storage Card now (sometimes you have to select Albums twice for the storage card - probably just read time).
Select the album you want to appear on TF3D and open it. Then click Menu and select Set Album as Favourite.
Your selected album now appears on TF3D - what i tend to do is make a compilation album of my favourite photos for TF3D and make that my favourite - then i have my normal albums on my storage card.
Hope this helps.
On a similar subject, is there anyway of storing more 'personal' photos elsewhere which are not viewed in TouchFlo 3D? Also, is it possible to password protect certain folders?
I have not used a WinMo device before
Thanks, that was great! I appreciate it...

On the Same note, I'd like to change where the Videos are stored. I don't like them placed into the same folder as the picutres.
Is it just a reg entry?

Use Total Commander, select the 'sensitive' pictures and set them to hidden on their properties. You could make a new directory, call it Dodgy Pics (or whatever). Paste your sensitive material into the new directory, select all and set them to hidden, then hide the directory too!
(will only visible using Total Commander or Resco, etc)

You could put 'em in an encrypted zip file.

use file explorer or sync from your computer and make a SD CARD VIDEOS folder or whatever you wish to name it. This folder and subfolders will show up in Album - Albums view

small start menu

Hey, some time ago i changed some things on my HTC HD and one of those things is my start menu. When i open the start menu i see a list of smaller icons than you see in the standard start menu. In the beginning you only see the 7 programs that you want your start menu to show. But somehow i've changed my start menu which shows the following now:
Agenda
Messages
Contacts
Internet Explorer
Notes
Telephone
-------------
//Recently opened apps
App1
App2
App3
...
-------------
Programs
Settings
Help
The problem is, is that i forgot how i did this... So i was hoping any of you could tell me how i did this.. If i get the chance all also try to add a picture of my menu and the default menu, so you get a better picture of what i mean.

Using a file explorer, you can add or delete new folders to your 'Start Menu' folder. Name them like: Web, Travel, Utilities, System and Media. Copy relevant shortcuts from you 'Programs' folder in your 'Start Menu' folder to each of these new folders. You will need to use a 3rd party file explorer to unhide system files and rom files to see the pre-installed icons to copy them to your folders. These icons are '.ink' shortcuts. Also copy the entire 'Games' folder and 'Office' folder from your 'Programs' folder direct to your 'Start Menu' folder. Finally uncheck all checked boxes in Menus in Settings page. This will allow all 9 folders to show in your Start menu on your home page, where you can access specific apps much quicker. Remember each time you install or remove a program/game, you have to either copy the new 'ink' icon to your category folder or delete it.
You can also use utility apps like HDTweak & Advanced Config to change size of Start Menu
If you go to Start/Settings/System/TouchFLO you also can change Start Menu size

[Solved] Start Menu organisation - Deleted shortcuts keep on regenerating !!

Hi everybody,
Like on all my PDA devices I like to organize my Start Menu in folders.
No problem to create folders on HD2. I've moved and organized all the shortcuts in this folders.
The point is some shortcuts are re-created in Start Menu root : shortcuts to HTC Calendar, HTC Footprint, HTC People and Music
Is there a reg tweak to prevent this ?
hi another question on this topic, does deleteing items from the windows\startmenu folder stop apps from working or are they just shortcuts as i installed apps like sktool/memmaid and it add shortcuts to items i dont use like quick clean and stuff and i dont want them but if i delete them will they stop the cleaning from workign in the main app?
No that's only shortcuts
ok thanks will remove some then
thanks
I would like to know as well... it gets really annoying as they keep on regenerating!!!
I have the same problem: deleted them, but they insist on coming back.
Oh, well
I can't find a way... Search in th registry but nothing !...
I have that same. Renegerating are only HTC removed icons like calendar, people, music. And its become with empty white icon.
Yes exactly white icon except HTC Calendar...
its because they are rom files. once you softreset, the device automaticly restors them.

Thats not it. They are being created by Manila. It appears to be related to the personalised tabs option - if you disable a tab it removes the icon.
If you use Total Commander to set the icons hidden + system, then soft reset they wont show in the start menu.

How do you do that ?
Show -> Treeview.
Navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Select HTC Calendar.lnk
File -> Properties
Tick Read Only, Hidden and System
Repeat for the rest...
Argh
Doesn't work for me. After a soft reset, the shortcut are still there
I just tried that, but the icons appear after a restart.
Annoying!
Right, sorry, that was my fault! You have to set read only + hidden + system, otherwise it still overwrites the icon. I had this set but only incase i changed the tabs later, I didnt realise it was required.
Yes it works !
* Show -> Treeview.
* Navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
* Select HTC Calendar.lnk
* File -> Properties
* Tick Hidden, System and Read-only (Keep Archive ticked)
* Repeat for the rest...
Thanks a lot !

How to delete or add a TAB in malina?

HI,everyone!
There are 11 or 13 TABs in malina commonly, generally including Home, Contacts, Message, Mail, Weather... and so on. How can I delete or add a TAB? For example, I want to get rid of the 'FootPrint' TAB, or I want to add a new TAB that can run a customized program while sliding to it.
Thanks a lot!
Slide to Setting, then choose Personalize, then choose Home Screen Tabs and remove the ticker from any tab that you dont want to show. Done.
To add, I only know for adding the Facebook Tab, Document Tab and E Reader Tab. You can find the cabs all around here in xda and copy to your sd card and install it. But dont forget to turn of the Sense (Manila) before install.
Cheers
