Can anybody confirm that after HSPL the frustrating problem with very loud incall speaker and popping/crackling noise is gone?
thanks,
G
What ROM are you on? I've found this problem to be a 1.43 issue. Other ROMs seem to be set at a much more acceptable volume. The speaker still crackles a bit, but it's a vast improvement over the stock 1.43 sound quality.
the 1.61 rom and Radio, which i think is the most important thing reduced the crackling on calls. You can Hardspl up to that version.
HardSPL won't touch anything of these things.
The SPL is only a bootloader.
I've flashed custom roms even before HSPL was out but...
I was hopping that flashing with HSLP would help!

Flash the 1.61 radio using HSPL. Seems to have fixed the issue for me:

What Radio do you have on your phone? I dont have any crackling problems on loud speaker and I have 2.06.51.07. If you look at my flashing for noobs thread in the rom development section it tells you how to change radios using HardSPL. The Radio does handle the sound so maybe thats your answer.

Stupid question but have you tried turning your volume all the way down to minimum while on loudspeaker as you may have it turned up too loud causing problems.
When im on loudspeaker I only have it on the lowest setting shich is still very clear and loud enough with no crackle.
Just a suggestion..

It's not a stupid question, but trust me the volume it's all the way down at all times. It's not only on the "loud speaker mode" we have this problem but with the earpiece one too.
The only way to have a private and decent conversation when I place the call is to try to play with the volume before the other party pick up: when the call is in progress i turn the volume all the way up and then back all the way down fast. It's the only way that kindda works for me. Incoming calls... tough luck, let's hope the other party has their volume all the way down otherwise they come through extremely loud and the speaker pops.
I've flashed 3 radios since yesterday and it seems that 2.05.50.11 is the best for me so far. will confirm after more testing.
thanks for trying to help!

If you are having no luck at all I would contact wherever you got the phone from as it sounds like you have a faulty device. If you have tried different radios, different roms and different settings then it looks like its hardware based and not software/firmware.

I thought of doing that but it would be no use as some have already done that and the new unit they got had the same issue. It's not an isolated case as you have probably seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588925&page=18

yes, it happens all the time in me as well, with the powermap rom. the only solution i found so far ( and not the best ) is while you are talking, lower the microfone volume ( while in call, use the slide to lower your volume ), and it makes the others hear their voice less, but if you are in crowded places, you wont be able to hear them :< lets hope another newer and better rom will publish, coz i aint reversing back to the official htc ****ty one
By the way on the Eten forum people who had this problem partialy solved it by playing around with the Microphone Gain Control which is by default set to Disabled, why don't you Enable it and see if it makes a difference.
Same Problem
I have the exact same problem.....I am using the original HTC Rom.....so freaken anonying....
Wondering what the Audio Manager does?

You don't have to go back to the original ROM, just the original registry setting to avoid the echo will be enough. According to users on a Dutch forum who had exactly the same problem. Here's a link where to get it: http://rapidshare.com/files/28751894/HTC.reg
Hi,
I have noticed that when receiving a call, the volume of the person who is speaking is quite low - I have increased the volume bar to the max but still the sound quality is low and I can't hear the other person clearly. Is there a way to increase the sound?
Thanks for your help!!

Thanks for the reply! I have SRS WOW but there's no much difference when a person is speaking to me on the phone. The voice is very low and it's very difficult to hear sometimes. I am using Tomal v8.5 -->could it be the rom is in fault?
Don´t think it´s the ROM, I have used 8.5 for a long time and never had that issue.
Perhaps a hardware problem?
Let´s see what other members think...
have you try with ear phone / hands free? if it working well with ear phone but not without it, there could be a hardware problem.
is there any new software instaled? try to full backup first then do hardreset. it's better to test on fresh. if it still, try to reflashing, perhaps you had a bad flashing cousing that.
That happened to me as well when I got my Shadow...
I finally realized that there was a protection sheet on the panel...
I know.... that was so silly...
I just got an HD2 2 days ago and enjoying it so far.
Except I have been finding that during most phone calls I hear a slight distortion in voices and have had to lower the volume about 2 steps to get it to stop. Anyone else finding this?
common issue, have this too :/. Speaker is just kind of bad. I find that even the lowest setting is loud enough, though!
Have you installed the latest ROM from HTC site?
Bad sound in the speaker freaked me out when I bought it, especially after using crystal-clear sounding Touch HD.
But After installing the latest ROM, it was gone.
It was not the distorsion, though, more like noise/static.

Which ROM did you have when you had the problem? And which ROM do you have now - 1.66?
Was the noise/static you refer to there during the whole duration of the phone call or only on some words (change of intonation of higher frequencies) while the other person was speaking?
Well, I have the latest ROM I found on the HTC/europe site. 1.48.479.1 (71294) WWE.
And I don't know which version was when I bought it.
The noise was during the whole duration of the call.
Hi,
I found that the distortion/static was in certain spoken words. I have the base ROM (1.49.71528) however the dang Australia HTC site is only showing 1 update with no ROM update downloads...shame the AU site has to be so behind the rest of the world with some showing more than 3 updates.
My HD2 is set to Telstra so I suppose I need to wait for a locally programmed ROM...funny how a ROM update can fix a hardware fault!

Another one here with bad sound quality during calls. Some words saturate the speaker (or it seems like it).

I had this issue. There is a registry tweak for this and it works a treat. I can't remember what it was though. I'll do some research and come back to you.
I've just upgraded to the latest ROM 1.66.405.2 and haven't made a call yet to see if this ROM has fixed the issue, or whether I need to go back and do the registry tweak again.
Here's the registry tweak. Worked flawlessly for me
You can find a reg edit here to try: HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\inCall AND InCall2
Change the value of InitVol to "2" in both inCall and inCall2

Hi All.. I posted this in Energy thread in deveopment but I think it is more suited to be answered here... anyone please help before my friend defects back to Apple!

OK Strange one here - hope someone can help!
I flashed older cookie on to HD2 for a friend and took phone to her in Malaysia - all seemed well but phone was freezing apparently so her brother went to HTC asia site and downloaded a ROM for it! GRRRR
Anyway it was a T-Mobile rom or something with a '51' radio. Since then when she makes a call she can not hear the other person through the earpiece (but can through the headset!) , but CAN hear a busy tone if the person is already on a call when she calls!
So I flashed latest Cookie Dinik style back on and replaced the Radio with 2.07.50.** and still the same!
I don't understand how the earpiece can make the busy sound but not hear the voice, yet headphone works?! I have connected remotely and used MyMobiler to see screen of HD2 and looked for anything that may be causing it but all seems fine.
If anyone has any ideas please help as she is about to go back to an iPhone after just moving to this HD2 on my say so!

hmm thats an odd issue and I would be suprised if anyone else has encountered it :S
are you positive its the ear piece speaker thats making the busy sound and not the loudspeaker on the back of the device?
also have you tried swapping between loudspeaker and normal handset mode? does the call work in loudspeaker mode but not normal speaker mode?

Good idea with the loudspeaker mode - will ask her to check that. Can't see how a rom flash could cause it - hope it's not faulty hardware!
I had a similar problem with my HD2: I wasn't able to hear my counterpart. I have tried several radio/ROM combinations with no luck. Looking at the test results I guessed it was a sporadic hardware issue of the earpiece. Sent the phone off to service, they confirmed the problem, replaced the earpiece and shipped it back, all free. Great service!
Of course, I had to restore to factory settings beforehand, including the original SPL, radio and ROM. If the phone is still under warranty I would suggest you try a hardware repair.
sorry if this has been asked, i really couldnt find an answer to this, but im using darkstone froyo 2.2 and it works with no problems but the volume is extremely low!! is there a remedy to this? maybe the radio?
Did you run the CLRAD before booting up Android??
I have no problems with volume.. try my radio.. (See Signature)
no, i have sound, just low volume. if im on the phone i can only hear someone if im in a room with no one around. driving in the car, forget it, cant hear anything.
I was just about to ask this. I have darkstone froyo running energy rom diniks glass. Me and three coworkers are having the same issue: audio is extremely low ear piece and speaker, on the other end the person can hear extra loud like the mic is super sensitive. Using recommended radio, 2.10....56 I think it is,still using the 7/23 zimage because it is the only one that does not. go into the sod.
Any help out suggestions? Thanks in advance.
^ im having the EXACT same problem, except im not running a rom. but yeah, other person can hear me super load but i can barely hear them, and speaker phone sucks!!
The devs are working on that. Sit tight.
^ thank you =)
just a shot
I had the volume muted in windows and when i loaded android it wouldnt play from the ext speaker. I turned it up in windows and the problem is better. Since I have a stock TMOUS non HSPL ROM I do not know if it will make any difference for you though. My only problem is that I always have to answer my phone "DOMO ARIGATO" because it's Mr. ROBOTO!
i am not using an HSPL hd2. thats my other predicament though, i cannot get it to HSPL.

Why cant you use HSPL? HSPL3 works great on the T-Mobile branded Leo.
Doesnt solve any issues with the volume, but the ability to flash other roms is nice to have especially when it comes to that robot voice issue.
Donate to the devs they work faster when they have beer
sent from my hd2 , thanks dcordes, cotulla and darkstone
try ChuckyDroidROM with darkstone's HD2Froyo v1 and radio 2.12.50.02_2
everything just work flawlessly including the calling volume , which is the loudest i've tried among all the builds.
no robotic voice , just a little echo sound for the listener's side, which doesnt matter the voice is still loud and clear .
I'm using mattc Leo, which is based on darkstone, and it also have the low volume issue.
However, mattc Leo rom is the only rom that I know of can now use bluetooth headset. With that, the volume is very good and no problem during my calls.
Sound Disappears...
Tmob stock rom 2.13
Radio 2.10
HSPL3
Problem:
-Every time I boot Android, sound is there, but low. After about 15 seconds if I run an app or make a call. The sound just disappears. I searched for related topics, nothing came out to be related.
