Hello!
I recently puchased myself an HD2/Leo, and I have to admit I am very pleased with it, and aren't going to tweak it that much (unlike my Diamond, which was tweaked out the wazzoo). The only little niggle I have is that it seems to be set up for the NA market more than the UK. The Amazon store link under the music tab goes to .com, as does the google search in the browser tab. I've got a registry editor for it, and had a quick dig through, but can't seem to find where these are stored. I'd like to change them, because the .com amazon store is useless to me (and the google one is just me being facetious).
Also, how does buying music off amazon work on the HD2? I'm assuming the music downloader doesn't run on phones so am I just ordering CDs to ship?
Anyone got any info?
Thats a no then?
Same problem here too.
Links to Amazon.com, instead of Amazon.co.uk
And also, would like to know the same as ftr2k8 regarding downloading directly to the phone. I have trouble buying from the Amazon Mp3 store on my PC, let alone on my phone
Cheers

Google think i am a Version user , I own WiFi Xoom and i am outside the USA , i think this is because i updated to 3.1 manually .
Same thing happened to me. Got my invite early this morning.
Same here,I was checking it out this morning, looks like a nice service. I particularly liked the free music
Me 4, using in canada, let's hope they don't catch on...
Yep, same here! I'm in Australia, using a US wifi-only xoom. Got my invite this morning also.
I upgraded to 3.1 manually too (using BRD`s flashable method), which is obviously why Google decided we were good Verizon customers. I noticed that after updating to 3.1 my xoom appeared as a new device "Verizon Motorola Xoom" on the online Market site, instead of "Motorola Xoom" it originally was. My understanding is that this method actually uses the 3g model's (or maybe some of it's ??) software/code. Sorry if that's not strictly correct, but that's what I've gathered... I also noticed that after upgrading, I had access to the music app upgrade (for this music beta), and the new video app, even though I'm outside the US.
Anyway, I was actually having a few stability issues and such, so I decided to do a clean wipe and start again. This time I upgraded to 3.1 using a different wifi-only method (one of the other dozen in the development forum!) This also worked well (and is the install I'm still using.) But I did notice that the music upgrade is no longer available and I no longer have the videos app. And yes, this device is once again called "Motorola Xoom" on the online market.
So again it's my understanding that by flashing that first update, it made Google think I had a Verizon 3g Xoom, or at least that I was in the US???, hence the invite I received. (This may be a sneeky trick to get Google to activate Music Beta on your Google account??)
But now what I'm interested in is seeing if the Music Beta service will actually work on this system since I changed the setup and I assume Google will tell that they're streaming music outside the US (they are pretty clever that way!). Before I even get there tho... since I can't "naturally" update the music app through the market (it comes up as "can't find" if I select the link from the Music Beta page), I figure I can find an apk for the updated music app and sideload it. On that note, can anyone please supply this??? (Save me time looking myself! )
I plan on trying all this out later tonight when I get home from work and will post back. Fingers crossed!
If anyone else has similar experiences I'd be interested to know. Cheers.
I'm in Canada on a wifi Xoom. Have loaded brd's 1.42 kernel and his 3.1hc upgrade and am running at 1.6Ghz stable. My music is uploading to Google Music as I type and I'm streaming my first few albums. I also have the video app and books app with access to public domain books that Canadian stock does not have. Plus, we have SD card support.
I think this means that it's time all of us non-US folks donate to brd for making our Xooms far more useful. Upgrading will be scary now, as to lose these services will suck!
I wonder if we can get the APK so we can side load this onto our phones. I have it in canada as well and it is working great on my Xoom! Unfortunately I am going to lose that when I get my Galaxy tab 10.1 next week.

Yeah, the new apk is readily available on the net... just google it and you'll find a bunch of links.
I've side loaded it on my HTC Desire phone and it works perfectly.
So I received my Kindle Fire for Christmas, and I'm in the UK. My uncle from the US brought it over for me, and I hope this post will clear up any speculation about what will and will not work on your Kindle Fire in the UK.
1. Apps: Apps need a US credit card, or you cannot download from the Kindle Store. This was not really an issue for me, as I rooted my Fire, installed the Market, and can download from there, not to mention sideloading APK file apps, which I was able to do without rooting
2. Silk: Works fine, uses EC2 cloud like it should
3, Book Store: Haven't tried it, but I was able to download books I had purchased previously for my old Kindle
4: Prime: You get a month's free of Amazon Prime, I wasn't able to stream videos from it, and I don't really care, I don't want to pay 70 dollars + a year for it.
Everything else works fine, and I really love it. The only other issue, was during the set up, there is no option to select the UK time zone, so you have to change it manually from the settings later. Oh, and all the temperatures in the weather app are in Fahrenheit. But it works like a charm. Got lots of working apps, Minecraft, Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds, and I'm using Calibre library to convert my PDFs into .MOBI format for reading on the Fire.
So all in all, it works pretty well in the UK actually! Hope this clears everything up for people in the UK thinking of getting it somehow. If I've missed anything please tell me!
Would also like to use the Kindle Fire in the UK but without rooting.
You mentioned being able to sideload apps ... but in order to do so, don't you need to download a file manager from the Amazon store (which a UK person cannot do)? and / or use an Android phone to backup an app?
I tried to download free apps from Amazon but even that is not possible and I don't have an Android phone .... is there any other way to sideload??
regards ....

Before rooting I was able to sideload by downloading directly using the Fire, then using the browser, going into the menu, and seeing my downloaded, from that file list you can launch APKs.
I'm using it in the Czech Republic and I can confirm that all the things mentioned by "georgeos" are valid.
If anyone is interested, here are some of my own findings:
- Books - you can purchase books from Amazon as long as you have a valid card number. You're eligible to borrow some of the books in the store with Prime subscription (limited to one book a month).
- Newsstand - same as above - you can check most of the magazines with a 14 day free trial subscription.
As far as the sideloading goes, it's pretty simple even without access to the App Store.
First you need to turn on installation of applications from unknown sources. Then use the browser to look for an .apk file of your preffered file manager (I used ES File Explorer since it was free and came highly recommended). Once the download is completed tap the status bar to show the recent notifications, then tap the downloaded .apk file to start the installation.

Ah yeah, sorry, forgot to mention that. But it is best to root the device, and install the Android Market, makes getting apps easier if you don't want to pirate the APKs, or if you're looking for the latest version of a free one, and it's always difficult to find a latest version APK. Also the Market shows ONLY the apps compatible with the device, so you don't have to go through the pain of downloading the APK and then it not working and having to uninstall it and delete it.
Hi - I've been searching around for about half an hour or so but can't find an "idiot's guide" (for that is what I need) on how to make my US Kindle Fire compatible with the UK app store.
I've asked Amazon directly a number of times but they refuse to help. I'm close to selling up and buying a UK one, so would really appreciate if anyone knew if there was a way to do this.
Many thanks in advance.
Purchase kindle fire games with gift card from Asia
please some one help me. yesterday i have purchased a amazon gift card of 10$ and added to my amazon account but when i try to purchase any kindle fire game it says that its only valid for US residents. what should i do any proxy server, vpn connection or could anyone purchase for me if i give you my login id.
Any HELP Please.
Wondering if any of you guys can help with this. I'm in the USAF stationed overseas. I had a friend coming TDY here bring a Nexus 7 over with him for me. I absolutely love this tablet, but the region restrictions are causing me tons of headaches. I can finally get the Market to show me music, books, and movies when using an American VPN and then clearing market data/cache and force stopping it, but other issues still continue to nag me.
For one, I never received my $25 Google Play credit. This is really just an annoyance, I've put an email in to Google about it but it's not a deal breaker if I never get it. Also, was the pre-loaded content supposed to be installed from the start? I don't have any of that content on my device (example: Transformers movie, etc.)
The main issue is getting around region restrictions for apps. Perfect example of this is the Google Play Books app. If I go to the store page in the Play Store, I can bring it up, but there's no Install, Open, or Uninstall buttons listed. If I go to the Apps settings page, it's listed there. But it's not listed in my App drawer, and if I add the Library widget to a homescreen and try to set it up, it just points me to the store page that I can't do anything on. If I try to install it from the Play store from my desktop PC...it says Installed there, but errors out saying the application already exists.
Is there any way to get around this? I mean, ****, I'm trying to be a legitimate customer here. I'm American FFS. With South Korea's complete non-enforcement of copyright laws, I'm starting to wonder why I even bother.

Hello!
I've been looking around the web and it seems that not all Android devices can utilize the Amazon Instant Video App (Prime Video). What a bumper for me since I don't use Netflix/Google Video.
Getting the app to work was a whole issue by itself. I'm only limited to browse through the movies selection. Every time I try to play a title, the app crashes.
I was wondering if anyone was able to find a fix to make it work on their M.O.J.O?
I have tried to stream videos through different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Dolphin) not to avail. Amazon really seems to not like competition to its own devices.

Same thing happens with Crackle app.
I know Google Video works (tested), not sure about Netflix.
Here are some snapshots of what happens in the attached files.

I was going to try on CM12 lollypop, but it's not on my google play store.. I'm guessing due to region.

Thanks for the try. Well Amazon makes it hard to find it. You first need to download their own AppStore app through their website, then download Prime Instant Video via the app.

Thanks for the info, it didn't occur to me that the app would be in Amazon's own app store.
I'll try it out sometime this week.
Amazon offers no support for "Tablets" outside of their Kindle/fire line. That's not saying it can't be done I have it up and running on both of my MOJOs. Problem is I don't remember exactly what I did. I know I had to get the Amazon Phone (not the tablet) .apk from Aptoide. If you Google "Amazon Prime for Tablets" you should find what you are looking for. If not I will see if I can't recall exactly how I did it.

I wish it could work directly via the Prime Instant Video, but this makes my MOJO more useful than just playing ASPHALT 8: AIRBORNE.

Good link:good:
Best advice, it's too soon to shell out a ton of money for this technology.
I spent hours on end sniping a Android ADT-1 on eBay. I opted for this model because of the specs. Yes it runs Amazon prime video, but you're stuck using the dolphin browser. It works perfectly... But I already have a computer or laptop or tablet that I can connect to my TV. It makes no sense to not have the lean back experience.
To you video streamers out there and want for sure access to all the headline apps, just get the Amazon Fire TV or the stick. I own the stick and it's great. But wish I had the usb port for more flexibility.

You're not wrong. The device becomes an extra load if you end up using your computer most of the time to access Prime.
However, I got my MOJO while it was selling on Newegg for $99.00 couple of months ago. This was a bargain worth the purchase.
A few hours ago I've bought Minecraft from the play store via my phone so that my nephew could play.
Now I've opened the play store on my Fire Toolboxed HD 10 plus but Minecraft does not show up as owned. Instead of all gives me the price of 6,99€ to be able to install it.
Is Minecraft the first App on the play store that needs to be payed for multiple times depending on how many devices you want to install it on?
Just these days I've bought two tool apps on the play store via my phone and was instantly able to install them in the tablet as well.
If anyone has a clue what's going on and could help me out, that would be great.
Edit:
As an update for anyone reading... When I went to "My Apps & Games" on the play store and there to "Library" it was displayed as the first of 15 apps under recommended and I could simply install it from there.
Even though the issue is basically solved, I'd still be curious about what's up with that.
Sounds like amazon just making it harder and harder for world domination. I just realised how many amazon things I've now got. Scary

In retrospect I want to believe that the play store just needed a 'little' more time to update things...
The HD tablet is the only Amazon device I own and with it toolboxed, it doesn't even phone home. I also don't use any other assistants and cortana on PC is switched off as well. And finally I use script blocker extensions in my pc browser, so that's that. I get why they want the data they can get, but no reason to help them by using devices that are not really necessary. Widgets on the phone and e.g. tasker can do the same (for those who can't do without)
