Good evening to all. has been a while I'm thinking of buying a Dream, and I'm looking at the prices in stores. I buy it again seems a bit expensive, so I turned to ebay and I saw that second-hand cost rather less. Now I'm wondering though: if I buy it outside of my country, like in America or in Germany (for example) can still use it in my country? or just not working. I ask this because I am about to go on holiday in America and I do not know whether to buy or not ...... You know where this goes from country to country?
be careful on eBay, lots of look alike phones are appearing! Make 100% certain it is truly a HTC phone!
No, that's ok it is that you resemble is fine, but for sure I care what you purchase, I do not want to buy it is a clone. However, then the Dream are all equal?
Ebay is ebay. People are trying to get the most money for their item. Some people will start lower prices than other. Some people are luckier and have more people interested and bidding higher. Some items are in better physical condition.
As others have said, don't accidentally buy a clone. They are VERY sneaky. You need to watch out for all the details and features and make sure nothing is missing.
But I am sure however that a German or American Dream can go well in my country?
the dream is a world phone, so it's going to work anywhere (gprs data, hsdpa data is only the frequency that T-Mo us runs, i think)
There are no differences between dream devices, other than the motherboard they come equiped with, and this can be the difference between been able to root and getting a brick if you try, but, again, afaik, they all come with the puny 192 mb ram and 256 mb nand flash.
I'm not sure which you want but they are NOT the same, the rogers dream will work on att 3g the tmo g1 is tmo 3g only, make sure the frequencies on the phone match your carriers...
All dreams should work, its a matter of how quickly (ie 3g or not)

Thanks for answers. If I had to take it, take the Dream brand T-Mobile or AT&T, or directy unlocked

There is no ATT branded device.
ALL dream *except* rogers will work 3G *everywhere except* ATT/Rogers. ATT/Rogers are oddball carriers with frequencies that don't match anywhere else.
Note that asides from the frequencies, there are devices with different KEYBOARD LAYOUTS. Most will have QWERTY layout (i.e. from english-speaking places), there are also QWERTZ layout (German), and I don't know what layout is used from French-speaking places (AZERTY?).
if you live in europe it would almost make more sense to buy a tmobile g1
the tmobile version has both wcdma 1700 and 2100 bands....and 2100 should work where you are...so you won't lose 3g in the deal like you would with the rogers dream

A "tmobile g1" *** IS A DREAM ***, so your statement reads as "it would almost make more sense to buy a dream [than a dream]", which has absolutely no meaning.
And quit calling it a "tmobile g1"... tmobile is NOT the manufacturer, and "g1" is NOT the model name -- "tmobile g1" is just tmobile's way of pretending that they actually had something to do with something and tricking people into contracts and limitations on features.
As someone who is becoming rather aggravated about the continuing lack of ETA for the Tilt 2 I was wondering if a Rogers version of the Dream would be a good alternative for me?
Specifically I am looking for a smartphone with a bigger screen than my 8525, a physical keyboard, wifi, the ability to surf the web and use Logmein to access PC's, and the ability to read various ebooks (txt's, doc's, rtf's, lit's, pdf's, etc). I would also like to be able to listen to mp3's on headphones and play some bejewelled/popit style games however these are less important. I am also restricted to the AT&T network as my cellphone is on my company's AT&T plan (which is why I was thinking that the Rogers version of the Dream would be better than the other versions as from what I understand it should allow it to be compatible with the 850/1900 band?)
Anyways, I was wondering if the Rogers version of the Dream would meet my requirements or if there are any other Android phones that might do so? Thanks in advance for any information and advice and sorry if I'm not asking this in the correct place.
Yes.

Ok ok so I really want this phone but I don't care for the look of the Sprint version here in the states. It's fatter and bland, tacky looking... I'd like to get an imported one and use it on either T-Mobile or AT&T... I've heard some folks say that only Edge is possible on AT&T with the current model that's out but I'm wondering if you guys know any different? I'd be willing to use this on T-Mobile US or AT&T as long as I could get the 3g speeds... Are there any version of the Hero out right now or that have been confirmed coming out in the near future (within the next 30 days) that will be able to be used on AT&T or T-Mobile?
No - what you've heard is correct. At present, if you're in the US and want a Hero with 3G, it's either the Sprint Hero or nothing. However, there isn't really a whole lot of difference hardware wise between the Hero and the MyTouch 3G.
Regards,
Dave
I've read that the hardware is similar but I was kinda pining for the Sense UI which is what really got me excited about Android... before that I wasn't a huge Android fan. I'm all about the UI
I wonder if there is a way to install sense on a mytouch? Also as far as I know the US version of all other android phones only come in white and not black or dark gray which is what I would want. I could be wrong about that though.

There are custom Hero roms for the MT3G.
Well the main reason I wanted the European version aside from the 3g instead of the CDMA was the look of the hero... the MT3G doesn't have the chin and thin/sleek design that I like.
the hero wont work at all in the US? or just no 3g?
I am currently using the Hero on AT&T, you will not get the 3G band. The phone works great on Edge and I dont seem to see any speed difference from my 3GS Iphone.

how's it working out for you? i recently bought a Hero and i was deciding between that and the iPhone 3GS (coming from a HTC Touch Pro / Windows Mobile user). i'm also on AT&T so i' going to be going from 3G to Edge.
I would wait...
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/07/02/htc-hero-hits-fcc-with-us-3g/
Note that this is a different model than the CDMA version that Sprint has. I think there are 3 possible things that will happen:
The Hero will be sold in an unlocked North American version.
The Hero will go to AT&T.
The Hero will go to Rogers, the Canadian mobile company that currently sells the Dream and Magic/Sapphire.
i have a problem. my hero arrived yesterday and i have at&t (us) and under phone status it works just fine. it shows i'm running edge, phone calls work. but when i try to go online and use any kind of data connection it doesn't work, anyone know what's going on? everything works on wifi but it doesn't pick up a data connection on edge when it says edge on phone status.
FIXED: nvm, i figured out i had to input the APN settings manually since the phone came unlocked from China.
Just buy a rogers HTC Magic and put one of the many hero roms on it. The rogers one has the same 3g bands as at&t. The only difference is the 3.5 not there and only a 3MP camera but I really don't see a difference in the 3MP and the 5MP. Atleast not from the magin & hero compared.
Let's just get this thread started, so we don't have to go searching thru various threads and sites to find out any possible news regarding the HD2 coming to AT&T in the US. This is the basis of this new thread:

Grandpanda- my butt is falling asleep! I'm on the edge of my seat, waiting word of this possibility. I was shocked to see the text HD2 and att in the same sentence. Please let us know as soon as you hear anything.
I'm Not Shure what Grandpanda hear but I'm very Interesting to know if the HD2 come to AT&T.
Where would this unit fit in their lineup with the Diamond2 on the lower end & the iPhone on the higher end? Don't get me wrong, I'd be very interested to see this phone come to AT&T, but I'm not sure how they'd manage it...

They better find a way to manage it- or they will end up losing a lot of customers that would like the iphone experience with the flexibility of Windows Mobile. I would suspect that could cost them millions of dollars in lost 2-year contracts if Sprint, Verizon, or T-Mobile releases the HD2. What good is it to remain loyal to the iphone while hundreds of loyal customers get fed up I leave. They were already the last one's to release the Touch Pro 2. It's time to take care of the WM users who want the the high-end phones, or they will go elsewhere to escape the iphone prison they are trapped in.
Where it fits in the lineup might be directly related to when their iphone exclusivity ends. I believe it's sometime next year, but I haven't seen a specific date. The other question would be what does the next gen iphone look like relative to the HD2. One thing going for the iphone is it's apparent ease of use, at the expense of flexibility, for the average consumer. It's brought a lot of people into the smartphone ranks and has certainly driven data revenue for ATT. It will be interesting to see what direction Apple takes with the iphone as more and more handsets come to market with similar features and better flexibility.
I use an iphone now, but can't wait to get my hands on an HD2 with ATT 3g, either through them or one brought in from Australia when it launches there.

Is good idea but the 3G band don't work in AT&T HSDPA network, just can connect using EDGE 12 not bad.

You are correct with the current version, but I was referring to if an ATT version is released. I think we can also expect to see a version in Australia if we go by the previous HD release. If that is the case it would have the 850Mhz band which is compatible with ATT.

HTC HD2 US (HTC Leo) Specs
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1900
I really hope ATT gets this in a reasonable amount of time. My TP2 is falling apart
However I would be willing to import the Aussie version is it will be compatible.

+1 = Lets hope that is true. I would spend the extra money and purchse the unlocked one, which would allow us not to have to be held prisoners while other companies release this phone and att chooses not to because of their affinity with the iphone. My question is.....withe the specs of the bands for this particular phone, which carriers would it provide total support for all bands- both Edge and 3G. ATT? T-Mobile? Verizon? Sprint? Would HTC invest in releasing an unlocked HD2 to one of these carriers, but not eventually release a branded carrier-specific one in the near future? It seems like if they spent the time to create it, it would be released by the carrier it supports at a lower discounted price. Either way- just make one with full Att support, and I'll be picking one up the next day!

Sprint and Verizon are CDMA networks so the GSM versions of the phone from ATT / Tmobile would not be compatible.
I don't really care if AT&T actually carries the phone officially. I hope that it when it gets released it will just support the AT&T bands. I'm going unbranded if possible! Just want the 3G speed is all!

Ditto. If you think about it- an ipod Touch costs $450, then you by the HD2 to replace that, as well as serve as your phone. I won't have a problem convincing myself to buy the unbranded US 3G version, as long as it supports all AT&T bands.
If history is a predictor of future behavior, AT&T will be late to the game if it appears at all. Chances are likely that we will only see the 850 mhz 3g band on Telstra (AUS), as it did with the Touch HD with it's hiked up price tag nearing the $1k mark. I hope I'm wrong as I am praying it comes to AT&T as well.
If AT&T is the only carrier (which I doubt because T-Mobile is getting it from all indications) or GSM is only what this phone will do that will suck. I hope CDMA gets it because where I live AT&T and T-Mobile both don't cover our area.
I did send an email to HTC USA about the possibility of an unbranded/unlocked HD2 being produced for the US market and what carriers might be branding the phone for their networks. Not good news at this time but here was their response.
Hello XXXXX,
We thank you for the question about what carriers will have the HD2 in North America and if we are going to create an unlocked version of the HD2 that works on North American 3G networks. We will be more than happy to help you in this situation. Unfortunately we do not have any plans to launch an unlocked version of the HD2 in North America. If this stance changes it would be published as a news release on our American and Canadian websites. As for carriers picking up the device, it is up to them to get the device on their network and sell it. The carrier would be the place to ask in this situation as they usually brand the device as their own and sell it as their own. Anything on the internet that is not on a carriers website or our own can be considered rumor.
Title. Also will there be an unlocked version that could be used on AT&T in the US. This si my most wanted WP7 phone, but I don't want T-mobile. If it's a temp exclusive I may get a Focus or Surround and pick up a Venue down the road. Or keep rocking my iPhone until it releases on AT&T.
I'm pretty sure it'll be a temporary exclusive, but don't quote me on that. I dunno about unlocked versions.
There really hasn't been much info at all about this device. Start to frustrate a lot of people, including me.
If tmo had 3g in my area i would be getting this phone. But i am on at&t. I am leaning towards the focus, but if there is any hope of it on at&t I would hold out.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
yeah im looking forward to it if it comes to att
I would hold out for this too for AT&T. I don't really care for their current WinPhone 7 lineup. My only other hope is the HD7 Pro that should be going to Sprint and Europe next year. An European version means GSM so AT&T should come out with a version of it I would think. I just hope it doesn't take them a whole year!
The specs of the Dell version seems to the best of the lineup. Since WinPhone 7 isn't really landscape friendly right now anyway, a portrait slider fits the bill.
I am in the same boat as all of you. In Canada, all providers (except WIND, which has horrible coverage) use the same bands as AT&T. So I need any phone I buy to have 850/1900/(2100 for trips), and the contract terms in Canada are so terrible, that I always buy unlocked. So, any news regarding a Dell Venue Pro being released as unlocked with AT&T bands is good news. Dell Streak was released like that on Dell's site, so here to hoping...

When I first saw the 7 Pro, I assumed it would be for AT&T. Successor to the Touch Pro 2... Shocked to see it for Sprint.
It seems like it isn't going to be tied to one particular operator in the UK, but I expect we will know for certain after its launch on the Monday.

Just a thought for you. When i get my replacement I'm actually running on Mobilicity because they do the same 1700/2100 frequency as AT&T in the states. Granted it's a total pain to get the DVP up here but if your in any of the cities with mobilicity, i'd recomend them for the DVP and they have the most important thing of all!
UNLIMITED DATA, no caps, no speed restrictions! and it's a ten dollar addon to the most basic plan.
Just a thought.
Please note i ment T-mobile not AT&T
Hi all
I love my UK HD2 especially since i've put it on Android but unfortunately i have to get rid of it as the limitation on cellular bands is a problem....
Recently moved to Canada where the provider i use (fido/rogers) operates 3G on 850/1900Mhz. The UK HD2 unfortunately does it on 900/2100Mhz so it falls back to the 2G network (GSM) when in Canada which is terrible for speed.
I need a phone which can do 850/1900/2100Mhz which i believe the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate and the Dell Streak can do.
Wondered if anyone had any opinions on these android phones or other phones which might suit? I need something as close as poss to the HD2 with the large screen, slim design but something that runs android only. I dont like the Desire Z.
Appreciate any advice
Latz
As far as size goes you can't go wrong with the Dell Streak. Haven't read the reviews on that one yet but I have heard its a good phone. Myself, I would go with the Captivate if thats an option on Fido. Or see what other good Android phones they have. Really though, no matter the choice you'll find support on these boards. Hope your search goes well.
Cheers
Dell streak is big , but too big if you really want to use it as a phone, having personally used it, its way big when using it daily, plus you have to carry it in your hand, Captivate, Bell Vibrant or Desire(screen is small)
id say if u really love yer HD2 then get the telstra T9193 version. thats the same bands as AT&T, rogers, the telstra one works here for me just fine. i just bought mine off ebay thursday and picked it yesterday. guy was locally in chicago couldnt belive it!!
EDIT: i just sent u a link to one being sold in canada right now

When I was in Canada, March 2010, they were having a launch party for the HTC Hero. It had been out in the UK for months, after looking at the selection of phones in Fido, Rogers and Bell, I decided that Canada was at least three months behind the curve. Although, that's just my opinion.
In light of that, I'm unsure if the Desire HD is out in Canada, I'll ask the missus to have a look.
Thanks for all your suggestions, I need something that can do all 3 bands else it won't work when I go back to the UK :-( I think the Telstra version of the HD2 is band limited too so whilst it will work in Canada I'll have the same problem in reverse when I go back to the UK :-(
Why oh why did they limit these phones :-( :-(
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look at all that you guys have suggested so far... I'll be really upset to leave HTC though.... I'll have a 'normal' phone :-(
Nokia N8 Pentaband, thats the phone you want
My Hero worked in the UK and Canada, but it's not a replacement for the HD2 by any means. I don't know what to suggest, except looking for the bands and typing them into Google, with your other specs. I know my friends Desire worked there too (I say Canada, I mean Vancouver specifically).
I'd say go for the Samsung Galaxy S. It's an awesome device and it doesn't seem to be riddled with hardware issues like every HTC phone seems to be lately. I think I'm switching my HD2 to one once I get it back from warranty repairs (third time this year, mind you). The only major thing with the Galaxy S is that the 3rd party software modifications can be a little retarded and the phone doesn't feel as solid physically as a HD2 for example.
Yes I must admit I'm growing more and more partial to the Samsung Galaxy range.... They have a 4" screen so I'm losing a little bit off our HD2 but not too much.
One thing I was concerened about was the benchmarking..... whilst I know this is not something of a real-world concern, it amazed me that the HD2 running Droid from the SD Card could manage no less than 35 MFLOPS compared to the Galaxy's Hummingbird... still spec'd as a 1ghz processor..... managed only 8 MFLOPS?
