Remote control: HERO on the computer - Hero, G2 Touch General

I was looking for software that would allow me to control my HTC Hero via the computer, mainly to be able to send text messages (SMS) easily. A google search led me to androidscreencast with a discussion thread here. I replied there but I just noticed it's located in the Dream subforums.
Since it's an android application, I'm assuming I can also use this for my HERO? I haven't been able to get it running yet (problem described in other topic), but while I'm here: are there any other tools that would do this for the HTC HERO, or would you recommend this application?
Thanks in advance!

I think droidexplorer does the same thing, don't use it myself though so no guarantees, and you might need root acces.

phonebooks and at commands

I have a question, i've seen a couple posts about this but no replies. I'm using a car computer that i'd like to communicate to my Prophet. There are a couple of programs out there but they seem to have issues with cyrillic. I want to be able to read the phonebooks, sms and send sms messages using AT commands, but the Prophet does not seem to respond to standard command set. One of the programs (Phonecontrol.net) uses a client program on wm5 to interpret and send proper reponses to the AT commands. I want to achieve the same functionality. Is there a place I should start from? Maybe a sample code? Or even better is there a utility out there that does this?

Anybody? Maybe not AT Commands, something else?
Is this just a stupid question or nobody knows the answer to it?
I don't believe AT commands are capable of reading the phone book, which resides in the OS.
Access from the OS to the phone book is pretty easy, the Windows CE documentation on this should be good enough for an average programmer to understand.

Transfer SMS from G1 to another

Hello,
Is there a way to transfer SMS from one G1 to another. My G1 stopped charging and I will be getting a replacement soon. I want to keep all of the SMS that I had and transfer them to the other G1.
Please let me know how this is done and what software I need.
I have a rooted G1 with JF1.5 Firmware.
Thanks alot,
Moe
Use sms-backup from the market or install gscript and search in the gscript thread which file you have to copy (I think it was discussed on page 7)

lack of bluetooth?!?

hi new to forum and just got this phone (in the uk its the 'magic').
my gripe is not being able to send and receive using bluetooth.
i have bought 'bluex' application from the 'market' and can now send items but as yet not receive.
it states that it will only receive if the device is 'rooted'.
what is this?
can we ever receive via bluetooth?
(PS, this may have been already covered so sorry for asking again)
(PPS, i'm not very computer illiterate or up on terminology so easy please)
do u bluetooth?
so it seems that nobody wants to bluetooth?!?
we here in the UK use this function a lot to exchange pic's and text as its free.
so i ask any helpers out there?
(i have sent a email to htc to see if they can help....post up what they say when i get a reply.
From what I understand, the lack of bluetooth functionality is sort of US market adaptation. In the US it is not at all common to send files over bluetooth, and I think it represents a security risk as well. So functionality has been removed. Same with iPhone. I've also heard a different story about lack of SDK. Which one is true, I don't know. I don't use it that much my self, so its less of an issue.
But it is possible to fix. BlueX will help you a long way, but to recieve files I think you need root access to your phone. There's many guides for rooting phones so just do a quick search on this forum and you'll be bluetoothing in no time.

device to device message sending / buddy list

Hi all.
I am new to developing on the Android platform, and am trying to familiarise myself with it. It's not like anything I've worked with recently.
I am currently looking at putting together an app, and one of the features I am looking to include is the ability to send messages from one device to another, via the data connection.
I realise this exists using XMPP, and clients such as jabiru and imov. I do not want to reinvent the wheel as such - so am wondering if there any clients out there that I can use to send messages from my app via a known working app.
I have been searching, but am not finding anything that looks suitable. Does anyone know of any apps that might be what i'm looking for?
Cheers.

It needs internet connection to active on your phone. However, Desktop SMS Manger doesn't need internet connection to active or use. You just need SDK tool kit on your PC.
I will try it and than come back to share which one is good. Thanks
any other options out there for this?
Yup, it's called Texty but it´s in private beta.
I got an invite recently and this thing is awesome. You should google it.
Ive always used SMS Control Center. Connect either wifi or bluetooth, the computer software is really simple, and its free.

Hi,
I am trying to use this app.
I am stuck at this point:
Once download complete run “MainGUI.jar” application and click “preference”. Browse to the path of your downloaded and unzipped SDK Install package. You need to select “adb.exe” file like this “/androidtools-skd-windows/tools/adb.exe”.Checkout the below screenshot.
How do you 'run' “MainGUI.jar” application?????
Please advise.
