Lx Camera Viewer

I found LXcam program that is using "Camera for Pocket PC Version 2.60 by HTC Corp." it sends video from mobile device to program on PC. Originally it doesn't work for my MDA Compact but after little tweaking it does now. Program itself is not interesting but owner of this program have HTC Camera API http://www.zone1.de/PocketPC/LxCam.html
If you want run this progrum do the following:
1. Establish an ActiveSync connection
2. Start LxCamView.exe on the desktop computer
3. Start LxCam.exe on the Pocket PC

It's a wrapper with source code, i think that says all.

er... it only works when connected trhu USB?! er... wouldn't a normal webcam be cheaper?
I got a program that does somewthin like that thru WiFi, PPC WebCam. but it aint really live feed. it uses the camera to take pictures and uploads them to an FTP. Then you use a browser on the PC to see the pictures. But it is really slowwwwwwwwwww

I have and XDAIIi and the software works perfect. You connect to your pc/laptop via WI-FI. Then you enter the ip number of the PC/Laptop into the software installed on your XDA. Then run the software on you PC/laptop and thats it. Live 'realtime' video. Wander round the building waving the camera about and evething is shown on the PC/laptop Useless but great fun

XDA II/W2003SE (SIN MERGED) - no error mesages, no sound, nothing else ... black ....any ideas???

both windows (pc and pocket pc ) are black

not working on imate pda2k..
ppc gave error, can't connect to server ip.
can ping each other from pc and from ppc .
also, with and without activsync..

LxCam does work, but veeeeeery slowly. Is it uploading individual pictures rather than using a streaming method?

agree.. it's really slow... but what the heck.. it's better than nothing :wink:

A pity no real webcam solution exists for the built in cameras.

It works 4 me with usb&activesync
I entered 192.168.0.1 as an ip (my home pc) and it is ok

using TyTN as msn webcam with Coolcam

Has anyone had chance to get this working yet, i can get the webcam vid to the app that comes with it, but no luck getting msn to recognise it as a webcam????
How do i do this??? ( i have paid for it but not yet received my key)

Strange, it worked with me just great - see my review & tutorial of the title, I've also posted some MSN screenshots.
Try switching to the old WM5 AS networking mode if, for example, it's a firewall issue.

managed to get it working sir, reinstalled coolcam once had installed the C++ thing from MS....works great...excellent

may I know what C++ you've installed on the PC in order for Skype or Yahoo Messenger to recognise coolcam in webcam setting? I'm able to see the webcam stream with the CoolCameraXP not able to select coolcam as webcam in Skype and Yahoo msg.

which C++ from MS did u install? i am also trying to use my TyTn as a webcam on msn messenger, but so far, no luck.
any help would be appreciated!

whoops sorry its been a while since i looked at this thread!
PM me next time people as i dont always look in here. I looked on the microsoft website and found the MS VC++ 2005 Redistributable download. I believe this is what i used as I had to check and see what was in my Add/Remove programs on my PC, this is the thing i used i believe.

so, forgive me if i'm missing something, is this only for using your device as a webcam whilst connected to your pc, or for using mobile skype or wlm?
i really can't see the point of it if it's only for desktop machines.

you access the front cam either using coolcam on the device or via activesync (works over BT/wifi/usb).
Its not to enable the front cam for skype etc..

ah, so i can't use the cams on the phone for mobile skype, or mobile msn then?

i use a different program : Ateksoft.WebcameraPlus
with this program you can use both cameras and screencapture
through activesunc or just wireless without activesync. it works like a charm

I can see the pictures in the webcamera software but not when i use msn or skype.
How did you did that?

The first link on this page is for the trial, which only runs for a minute at a time. I use this software, as it gives me a wireless webcam with built in microphone.

I las tchecked this a few months ago, and was really disappointed the cam was useless for anything other than video calling on 3G, that no-one I know uses.

Actually there's a new app from Ateksoft that lets you use any of the two cameras of the universal as a webcam.
Tested it myself with msn, works perfect

I get the impression they're talking about MSN messenger on the PC though, not the more useful pocket pc version....

thanks for the link. Works perfect to transform the universal in webcam for my desktop.
in fact what i'm tryng to do is to use the universal as webcam without pc.
like a video call on wifi.

Would it be possible to use either the front facing or rear camera as a webcam in a program such as live messenger or skype on the touch hd?

While it is interesting to be able to use the HD as a webcam on the PC. It would be more interesting to be able to use Skype webcam directly from the HD (in house).
This one claims to do video calls via IP directly from VideoPhones without going through your provider. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it supports Skype. http://www.octro.com/

Forget it! Part of the first is the well known "Cool Camera" prog 1.15. And Cool Camera doesn't work on the HD.
Also your second advice isn't running on the HD.

I think that's what the topic user is aiming at, using the front camera as a webcam in programs on the HD itself.
Would be kinda cool .

yeah sorry maybe i didn't make my question clear... I was wondering if you could have the camera working as a webcam purely on the phone. Videocalling over IP or sending video through windows live messenger for mobile.
did a search on the forums but nothing came up. i'm surprised and can't see why it's not been done. it's possible on desktop pcs so why not mobile devices?
is it too much data to send? i would have thought HSDPA would be fast enough.

Standard 3G can manage video phonecalls, which are essentially identical to net video calls. Maybe internet calls have a little extra overhead and need slightly more cunning programming to overcome the lack of a dedicated network, but otherwise it's the same thing.

As far as I understand HTC's strategy is one of supporting and working with the carriers. As the carriers want us (in Europe at least) to make high-priced, and therefore high margin, video calls via our cam equipped devices, HTC disabled the front cam for any internet chatting, or voip calls.

You asked for the software that provides a webcam interface to PC, not whether it's compatible with Touch HD. You can test yourself if you want.

BTW, at the moment i try to find a way to use a programm named "Kai´s mirror". But it goes slowly. Front cam goes at least... If i break through i will give a message.

Mobiola Web Cam (paid app) is what I used to use, but now I've started using QIK on my phone...it streams live vid from the phone to your account's webpage, which can be publicly visible, or only available to people you authorize to have access. It also archives the vids there once they're streamed.

It doesnt work with hspda ( 3g ) right ?

I assume it'd work, I know it worked on GPRS in the past (on an older WM6 device). I haven't tried it with the TP2 yet, but I assume it works on any internet connection (3g, wifi).

The only thing I found, is a program called "Qik". Google it. This lets you stream live video from your cell phone to their site. They do give you the code to paste into you website. I have been using it for about a month and had no problems. Hope this helps.

didint work with 3g on my tp2.. only works with active sync, or wifi..

Qik looks nice, i am going to try this out !
Looks like it is eating much data, so i have to watch out.

QIK works great for my ATT Tilt 2. There is something called Tinycam. It is pretty cool. Not sure if it is what you are looking for but I think it will do the job.

Mobiola or QIK? Mobiola works over BT, wifi, USB, not 3g. QIK works on 3G as well, I use it all over town
