I've been reading HD2 users posts for some time now and I have one observation.
There is plenty of rather-satisfied and rather-not-satisfied users. But also there are many users that are very pleased or very much disappointed with HD2.
All the fixes are public, but they seem not to help everyone.
Perhaps some of you had bad luck and bought their devices from first batches/series having hardware bugs?
Otherwise, would it be possible to find here users with that many malfunctions and - at the same time - users with no problems at all?
I mentioned it in one of the threads but I desided to start a new one.
Let's build a list of serial numbers (probably with some digits replaced by "X" for privacy reasons) of good and bad devices.
For people that didn't buy HD2 yet and for those who decided to return their phone and change for a new one. To let them recognize the bad series.
To start a list, first s/n of the phone without the SMS problems: HT9C7NW0XXXX (thanks to djet).
HT9B1NW0XXXX...
No SMS issues, Perfect build quality, No earpiece distortion..
HT9B5NW0XXXX
No SMS issue
Almost perfect build: A tiny tiny bit of gap between the cover and the screen at one corner.
Earpiece distortion during high volumes.
HT9BJNW0XXXX
No SMS problem (not much of a txter anyway)
No earpiece distortion
Almost perfect build quality - 0.5mm recess in top-right and bottom-left corners
HT9B1NWW0
* No SMS problem
* No earpiece distortion
* build quality - Fine
(only niggle the camera flash)
Ask Xeon. He had 4 of them. Totally unpredictable.

- Physical "Grid" on screen = yes
- Earpiece issue = No issue at any levels
- Back Speakerphone issue = yes at maximum level (Escalated to HTC support)

- Capacitive Touchscreen = OK
Software:
1. Before installing anything:
- SMS issue = no
- Pink hue = yes (rectified)
- Alarm-ring-once-only issue = yes (Escalated to HTC support)

ROM 1.48 WWE (update from 1.43)
Overall very pleased with device. You know why. Still, some issues
- Bluetooth stereo: very bad audio, fine after the linespeed tweak
- Screen way too sensible, many issues, ghost writing, some automatic writing even without pressing a letter, electrocardiography bug... better after tweak, but not perfect at all
- Permanent connection/disconnection to 3G network, fixed after installing Bandswitch software
- No not sent SMS, can't talk about the lagging since I don't have a lot of SMS yet
- Music player: a lot of freezes when filled with bad tagged mp3s... Still not fixed
- Camera: no problem, at least not obvious (quality is very good, by the way)
HT9BHNW0XXXX
Using Stock ROM 1.48 WWE (Asia)
- No SMS sending issues
- No physical misalignment problems in corners - build quality fine.
- HUGE touch problems - all known major glitches occur and screen refuses to respond to touches when device is warm
- speaker distortion when using speakerphone
- no earpiece distortion but bloody loud even at lowest setting!
- camera fine
- GPS excellent
- Wifi seems to work but not thoroughly tested yet.
Just a question on the methodology - given the wide range of serial numbers without any apparent date markers or order, how would we know if a replacement phone came from an earlier or later batch?

After installing programs:

Hi
I have now had my Universal for almost a year. It will soon be time to upgrade. Seems to be no sign of a Universal-2 - perhaps HTC will not bother, I have no idea how popular they were.
The Tytn comes the closest, but has a very small keyboard with no dedicated number keys, its only QVGA and it does not have a full sized SD-Slot.
I like the form factor of my universal, and can handle another phone of the same size/weight. I would prefer it to be narrower across-ways at the expense, perhaps of being a little longer. Here's my wishlist:
- 800x480 widescreen display
- External display (b/w fine) showing time, name of caller etc etc
- Retain full sized SD slot
- GPS built in
- HSDPA
- More sturdy hinge design
- Better battery life
- More sturdy (click-in-click out) stylus hole (like Psion Series 5 please)
- Hardware 'OK' button
- Jog dial like Tytn, and loose the daft hardware volume control
- Have the backlight button do something useful instead (turn on camera LED for use as a torch for instance
- Instant ring from standby when someone calls
- Access to SIM card without having to remove battery, or dual sim holder and option within OS to switch sims.
- White LCD backlight rather than flourescent aka Sony T3XP (better batt life)
- Modern, efficient Samsung processor
- More memory - ideally 256MB to save installing to SD card
- 802.11G wifi or even WiMax if delayed that long!
- 6MPix camera with digital zoom controlled by jog dial giving 2Mpix image at 3x zoom.
- Ditch the aerial holes on the spine - nothing was ever made available that used them.
- Light up the pickup/hangup buttons on the spine when unit closed and call recieved.
- Appear as flash disk when connected to PC without activesync running
- Retain full sized headphone socket
- Sould not require 6 months of firmware updates before it becomes usable
- Drop stereo speakers on front & IrDA if nessesary to house stuff above in compact package
Anyone else got things to add?!
Nigel
MS portrait is available now for WM5 and HTC devices too.
I tryed on my TYTN but I am not so satisfied.
See post on GENERAL forum too. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291444 )
Available for free at: http://research.microsoft.com/mcom/portrait/
I am interested about other HERMES users experience.
I post here again because I think that Hermes users are more looking in the Hermesforum than in the General forum
In general forum I wrote:
My feedback for microsoft portrait 3.0 (beta)
I tryied on a TYTN. Sorry to say but this version is more in a alpha than a beta phase!
- Powerconsumption is extreme
- Portrait uses the inbuilt back camera (2 mpixel maybe this is too much for UMTS network) and that is why the bright mode display starts (as usual when Cameraprogramm starts on the TYTN) wich is draining the battery. If the front camera would be selectable this would not happen (for example as “ATEKSOFT webcam” program can do). Msportrait is only interesting for users who own a Videophone (2nd camera and UMTS speed) so I do not understand why the frontcam can not be selected.
- I can not see a video on the PC althoug I tried different settings of bandwidth and framerates. With GPRS-monitor I checked and the average speed of TYTNS´s networkconnection was about 350 Mbit/s (so I guess its not because of low bandwidth)
- Sometimes after switch on/off portrait only a static picture is transferred to the PC (but no video)
- Audio is not realy full duplex. PC is receiving the audio signal only if I keep pressing on the audiobutton of the TYTN (as in the old version 2.3). Basicaly the audiosignal from the PC can be heared on the TYTN gapless, but sometimes audio transmission stops and works only after I press the audio button on the TYTN again.
- TYTN receives color video from PC very well (128 kbit/s). But there is a strange bug on the screen. The TYTN Video picture is visible in the background at the same time as the received video from PC (like overlaying). The green mask of the MSportrait menue is not transparent but everywhere else the TYTN´s camera picture is shining trough. (for example at the top taskbar)
- After cancel portrait the last taken picture of TYTN´s camera keeps staying in the background. This goes away only after a softreset. I tried to make a screenshot but on the screenshot the wrong background image was not visible!?
- Portrait is not really reducing the speed of my TYTN (allthough other users mentioned)
I hope MS research will work it out because if this programm works then it’s a real “MUST HAVE” application.
Already posted, but thanks!

Got my TD2 yesterday, still have my TD1 (until I sell it) here sre some comparisons:-
1) Unboxing
TD2 is in a much cheaper pack than TD1 simple outer box with simple inner "egg carton" tray, gone are the shiny cherger and usb cables to be replaced with functional but plain matte black ones.
2) Build quality
I would say about the same although the TD2 feels more solid in the hand to me
3) Radio
TD1 with latest official WWE ROM versus TD2 with ROM 1.39.405.2 (47382) WWE Radio 3.43.25.19 as I look at both devices in front of me both are showing 2 bars.
4) Interface responsiveness
Finger control is smoother and more responsive on TD2, interface feels faster. No lag any more when exiting Opera.
5) New Tabs
Stock Tab is nice deeper integration of TF3D (e.g. in calendar) is cool
6) Internet
Push web is a useful feature and it is easy to control how often pages update
7) People Centric communication
VERY useful (to me at least) only had the thing 24 hours and already used this feature several times!!!
8) Music performance
Have listened to about 1 hour of music with NO SKIPS, supplied headphones are adequate, device speaker is loud and clear
9) Video
The film "V" plays without skipping or stuttering at 927 kbps and 25 fps (which is how I encoded it). Don't know whether that is regarded as good or bad but it impressed me!!
10) Battery life
Not enough time to give a defintive opinion but seems good so far
In summary the TD2 is an evolution rather than a revolution, but if your TD1 is getting a little battered and tired and you have some spare cash, I would recommend the upgrade!
I think it’s just straight common sense especially if you are a Touch Diamon1 user you buy the phone because of the size and its fully packed with great hard/software, and if there’s a new model almost the same but a little bigger but much faster and nicer it’s just common sense that you are going to upgrade to a Diamond2.
But I have to say the Pro2 really did get my attention. But still the Diamond2 won! Cant wait till tomorrow.

Does the HD 's 3.5mm jack works as MIC as well?
I just use the diamond with a 3.5 adapter with MIC, handy when there's incoming calls.
About the TD2 , is the stylus got magnatic ends like the TD1 / T PRO / HD? and pull out stylus turn on the screen?
Does TD2 use MSM7201A? and no 5-minutes lag with speakers or wire headset when using music softwares other than TouchFLO3d / WMP (eg: core player / TCPMP / pocket mucic / pocket player)
Can it be use in landscape mode for 3rd party software without regedit?
The TD1 cannot rotate screen other than opera/album, and HTC support will yell at you complain about touchflo3d / phone pad / incoming calls not working in landscape mode.
Can it play RMVB files like the SAMSUNG OMNIA?
When you press CALL button , the phone pad will pop up with last few call history, in the TD1, there are some left and right arrows on the right side of the number for you to choose between mobile / text / work / home / email , it ONLY works with the D-pad in the TD1 . How to toggle between mobile / text / work / home / email in TD2 ?
Does the zoom bar work in most software?
How about the BACK buttons? is it as useless as the one on TD1?
Many thanks
To answer some of your questions about the TD2
The stylus is not magnetic, but pulling it out still turns on the screen like the TD1
The device information on my TD2 shows a 7200A fitted - I use core player, I get no lag
Landscape mode is available for Opera, Album, Email and You tube out of the box
No Idea on RMVB files
Pressing the call button still brings up a call history, there is an icon next to each which calls up the contact card for the person, you select home/ mobile/ email etc. from there, the whole process is slick and fast, no lag.
The zoom bar works in camera (video and still image), album, opera, excel and word - maybe others, haven't checked everything!
The back button does what it says on the box...
Hope this helps
how about the RAM usage? on startup and after opening and closing application?
After a soft reset - RAM usage is 37%, if I then open OPERA, navigate to bbc.co.uk and then close opera (completely), RAM usage is 52%. I don't think mine has got beyond 60% at any time so far.

I don't get why people want their PPC to have free RAM not being used all the time. The unit should be bouncing off 95% used as much as it can.

Does word/excel work in landscape mode? Email works in landscape, does it mean SMS/MMS works in landscape too?
When using EMAIL in landscape mode, what happen when there's an incoming call?
Word and Excell do not switch to Landscape, SMS/MMS do not switch to landscape. When on email in landscape, an incoming call results in caller ID being displayed in portrait mode.
One important note, the annoying delay before the phone rings on an incoming call that was present on the TD1 appears to have been eliminated on the TD2

SMS does go into landscape! i tought it also but if you tilt the phone to your left it goes into landscape
This phone rocks! that i even tought about have a full keyboard
I actually liked the TD1. I also have a Nokia 5800 & the wife has a LG Renoir, I tried so hard to like the Nokia but S60 is total ****e.
Anyway only a few things annoyed me about the TD1 most significant being low speaker volume & low memory warnings. After reading the posts here and on a few other sites it seems the TD2 has addressed most of the failings of the TD1 so thats reason enough for me make the upgrade.
i was also a big fan of the original diamond and upgradef mainlu for the official route to wm6.5. i am glad i did, this phone rocks!

And: TD 2 better camera (5 MP), larger screen 3,2" WVGA 480x800, much more memory, micro SD-card, stronger battery.
But also: no select/scroll wheel, remove the backcover to softreset and to get the sd-card in and out, a little bit thicker...
My new baby...
TD2 actually has removable memory. That's a huge plus IMO.

Was wondering if anybody has tried to use the FM radio? Does it exist in the D2? Thanks in advance.

fm radio present and correct1
when i compared D1 with D2, i saw that the D1 has a proximity sensor for auto turn-off (when putting it to the ear during a call), and it seems not to be mentioned for the D2.
is it true that the D2 does not have the proximity sensor? so when you call, while putting the phone to your ear/face, you can accidentally press "buttons"?
this would really suck imo... :/
Hi,
Had the Leo since launch and it's driving me crazy with it's bugs.
Does anyone know if the following bugs have been fixed in 1.61?
1- Proximity Sensor intermittently not working correctly- I was on a call today and I cut the caller off 3 times.
2- SMS getting stuck in the Outbox.
I've already upgraded once to 1.48 I don't want to upgrade again until I know it's fixed.
I should learn in the future not to buy Version 1 of a product. The leo (HTC HD2) feels more like beta (field trial) 0.8 software.

Well, agree to some extent on the "field trial" feeling...
However, I never had the proximity sensor problem, and since I installed 1.61, the SMS issue did not come back (had it rarely before, though).
Personally, the much better radio which comes with this update is worth the flashing alone... but that´s my personal opinion...
Have you got a screen protector on the leo?
when I use mine, the proximity doesnt work fine and I neet to cut the plastic of the protector of that zone
The proximity sensor also doesn't work with hair. Do you have long hair that covers your ears?
I noticed this when my girlfriend used my phone, the screen just wouldn't go off.
I use 1.48 rom and very strangely i have proximty sensor problems when calling numbers that are not on my carrier network ... don.t whant to report it as a bug but ... strange. Even so, have you tried to disable phone canvas cover? Seems it doesn.t switch on so often when this is disabled (using BSB Tweaks)
well my experience with proximity sensor:
when i just make a call it works fine.
when i use the keypad after making a call (for entering extensions and stuff) the proximity sensor stops working. it happens every single time I use the keypad while in a call. I will soon report this bug to HTC.
I don't have any screen protectors on.

just been testing that, I can't replicate it at all.

I have some strange bug with calling screen.
When I call to somebody and talk more then 5-10 min, then I can't press Disconnect red button.
But sometimes, if I call and don't hold phone near of head, for headset for example, I haven't any problem with screen, all buttons pressed normally.
Very strange behavior.

Had exactly the same issue with 1.43, didn't notice it *yet* on 1.48. Screen wouldn't dim after entering dtmf.
Grtz
Lukas
Interestingly it's my wife who uses the phone and she has long hair- that fits in with the previous posting
Why does the proximity sensor not work with long hair!!! She still has the phone close to her ear. I can watch her during a call and the screen lights up and activates on and off. I'm not too sure if there are two bugs here- one is radio cutoff, and the other a proximity sensor issue.
I called her a few times over the last day- and cut offs are quite regular.
Previously I used to get various DTMF digits sent down the line as well from her cheek touching the screen, but not now.
I'll give this phone a few more weeks before it get sent back.
FYI- I do not use a screen protector.
With regards to the proximity sensor... I'm on the LEO with a WWE 1.48 rom (experienced the same thing with the original 1.43). Like you all say, it is still a bit flaky at best, though did improve with 1.48. However I find myself doing a little work around...
(to note: I do have the official screen protector attached on as well - it has 2 little holes for the sensors in the film)
• Make or receive a call
• Drop the “virtual” guard
• Enable loud speaker mode / Disable loud speaker mode
• Talk/Listen to your call
Hey presto... you should find the proximity sensor working again. (Got it down to a fine art... the other end doesn’t even realise)

i upgraded 1.61 and noticed the proximity bug once yesterday
the only time it happend was when I was ON a call and had another one coming in (call waiting) ... so once i switched over to the other caller, my proximity sensor stopped working
No idea why...but i tried it again 10 minutes later and it worked.
So its intermittent...pretty annoying though
I hope HTC is aware of the problem
I think not... Its getting really annoying

Do you thing the original screen protector from HTC make all the problems with the proxi, ity sensor?
I have the same problem with this sensor, I am not sure which hole the is proximity semsor?
thake the screen protector out or cut it and the proximity sensor will work perfect
So I have been living with this little guy for over a week and I believe it's time to write up a review on it.
I wont deal with unpacking as it came in an OEM unbranded box containing only the watch and usb cabble.
I have been using it paired to my Galaxy Note 2 running the official 4.4 update.

The watch looks like the illegitimate child of the Nike Tomtom GPS watch and the Pebble. It is a bit on the chunky side and made entirely out of a very rubbery black plastic that feels nice to touch and doesn't feel bothersome around the wrist.
The screen is protected by a glass lens that I'm pretty sure isn't scratch resistant. As for being able to view it in bright light , nothing can beat Sharp's Memory LCD. It's crisp and has a nice contrast. With the back-light ( blueish hue ) on it's perfectly usable at night too.
Button layout is identical to that of the Peblle and they are also mapped in the same way. One on the left for back. Three on the right , top one is up , middle is select and bottom is down. They are nicely textured and require a bit of pressure to click making accidental presses less likely.
The charging port is magnetic with an almost identical connector to that of the Pebble. It comes with an usb cable but no charger. The connector is held in place well and has an little key to make sure you won't inverse the polarities by mistake.

The first screen you will see is of course the watch face , it comes with four different ones to choose from : http://imgur.com/a/ASc8D
Pressing the select button opens up the menu with a nice side scroll animation. Here you will see a list of the watches features and a small info bar at the top that shows battery charge , time and if you are connected to your phone.
Menu pictures : http://imgur.com/a/NYat1
Features are as follow :
1. Call notification that will show the phone number and contact name , if such exists , and the ability to mute the incoming call.
1. Ability to read a newly received SMS.
1. Music player remote control. Sadly enough it lacks volume control , only having pause/play , next and previous. Artist , album and song name are displayed.
1. Next we have the camera remote shutter. It works even with the phone locked. The screen doesn't turn on when you take a picture but it still makes the camera sound when triggered.
1. This is followed by weather which displays the current and max temperature for a chosen location plus a little icon that illustrates the current conditions.
1. The find phone feature triggers an alarm that uses the same ringtone as a call and has to be manually disabled on the phone screen after you unlock. This means if you have an unlock pattern there is no way to stop it until it is used. The watch also vibrates if the phones gets far away enough to loose Bluetooth connection.
1. There is also a Running feature which basically is a pedometer. It shows how many steps you took , how many calories you burned , distance traveled , average speed and time. All this info is synced on the phone where you can see the hole history and charts. The pedometer requires you to set your height and weight. It can be turned off to save battery.
1. In the settings menu we have :
1. Bluetooth where you can turn on or of the radio module or activate the power saving feature.
1. Alarm where you can set simple alarms. This is pretty useless as you can choose to receive alarm notifications from your phone. I supposed this makes sense if you are using the watch alone.
1. Date and time settings which are also pretty unnecessary as the watch constantly syncs with your phone for the current time so no need to ever set them manually.
1. Back-light has three settings : off , always on or automatic which means it turns on when you press any button.
1. As language support goes it only has Chinese and English.
1. The about window will display the firmware version , the device ID , Bluetooth status and battery status.
1. Power of turns the watch of .. surprise surprise.
As battery life goes it is at least on par with that of the Pebble if not better. Now it really depends on how many notifications you receive and how often you flip around your songs. I got with quite the use about 5 days and a half on the charge that came from the factory , around 50%. I'm now on my first full charge.
The watch for now has only an Android companion app so no support for iOs.
The app allows you to choose what notifications you want to receive , this works with notifications from absolutely any android application. Basically the watch screen becomes a second notification bar where you can scroll through all of them in the order they are received.
Within the app you also set the location from where to receive weather updates , the units used and the refresh frequency.
Here it's also the place where you can view the synced pedometer data.
Currently the app is at version 1.03 and the manufactured claims they issue monthly updates.

So now for the big question , how is it to live with the watch ? Well it does everything it's supposed to and haven't discovered any issues since I updated to 1.03 ( 1.02 would have occasional Bluetooth interrupts ). Being able to check all my notification without ever having to take out my rather large phone ( Note 2 ) makes it all worth it , that and the music control app. For 58 usd , 83 with DHL express shipping , it's pretty hard to find a down side to this little guy. Yah it isn't the greatest looker but it does feel sturdy and the fact that it is water resistant is a great plus , dare I say a must . If you are looking for a basic smart-watch you should definitely give it a look.

So the sensors are not the same as the pebble.
Pebble Sensors:
3D accelerometer
e-compass capable (with future software updates)
Ambient light sensor
This watch looks interesting.
I'm looking for a smartwatch, but want a e-ink or similar display so the time is always readable and I want one that I can track my sports activities with.
Does this watch have a option to link it with an Android app so you can read your speed and distance with it?
I saw it has a pedometer but that that's not what I'm looking for.
Could you give us some pictures of notification from e-mail or text messages?
Does it show the whole message, only the topic or does it only let you know you received a mail?
Did you order one piece or a batch?
Interested in your future dealings with the watch, so please keep us posted!
I ordered a single piece. The app does track the number of steps you take , distance and calories burned in a chart.
It only shows the subject and a small part of the message / email / notification. If it is a small sms or hangouts message it will be shown completely.

Thanks for your reply.
I assume it's not possible to check upcoming calendar appointments with this watch?
