ok , SSPL is out and everyones in rush for uploading, downloading, flashing and testing cooked ROMs .
when u are a ROM addict u cannot just walk away from new releases and not try to refresh ROM development page
im using spb backup 2.0 and everytime I restore my backup files ( full restore and customized ) i feel its kinda slower than the time i install the programs manually . i dont know if it is mentally or not but i feel like that .
and now , with having sense in our devices it seems backup apps dont do their job correctly ... and of course I'm not talking about backing up from pim ( contacts, messages, etc. )
am i right about having slower OS after restoring or its just a wrong supposition ?
i want to know your opinions and it would be nice to hear your experiences about this matter ...
tnx
You should never restore from backups such as those made by SPB or Sprite when changing ROMs, plain and simple. There's nothing really to have "opinions" about. It doesn't work properly, no matter what software vendors say. End of story.
it should not be that easy ! if so , thats ok dont end the story so angry!
so u always install all your apps aftere flashing a ROM ?
I'm not angry, but it's a very simple story.
Yes, I always install my apps after flashing, but the process is automated via SASHIMI. Same goes for settings and tweaks.

Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help on this one - I've been googling for the last 3 hrs and not been able to really find any solution.
I seem to have lost my 'Settings' folder
When I click on 'Start > Settings', my system just hangs.
If I Hard reset it's there again, but when I clone back to current - gone
I REALLY don't want to have to go through the whole installing process again, I've just spent the last month Installing, Resetting, Installing, add infinitum; now, when I seem to have found and tested all the apps that I want. installed them, registered them, etc., the LAST thing I need now is to have to start from scratch!!!
So, PLEASE - give me a clue how to add this back and remove the one and only issue I have with this build!! P L E A S E ! ! !

Have also found that the three settings tabs are also no longer recogniseable in other programs - I have SPB Shell 2.0 installed, and it usually shows all the options from the Settings folder in it's Settings tab - not any more!!
Also Pocket Mechanic comes up with the 'Cannot load file 'unload'...' message if you try to uninstall anything! - from surfing it seems that these are related!
It looks as if I WILL have to reinstall everything - going to have to do it the REALLY slow way and clone after EVERY install on the system "sigh!".
I'll give it 48 hrs of hoping that some really narly uber geek out there can come to my rescue, else I'll have to geek it myself!
CALLING ALL UBER GEEKS - help this poor lame nerdoid out!!
as i understand you have made backup of a broken WM and when you restore it it restores the broken parts too, the easyer solution for you is to use PIMBackup for all your mail, contacts SMS MMS etc. , Hard reset, install all of the software you use then restore the backup from there and after your device is properly configured then back it up with a backup software (some backup software do not work well in wm 6 use only compatible versions, also you can not restore WM2003,WM5 or difrend build backup to WM6 rom this action may cause unpredictable bugs)
Yah, looks like it's the only option!
I think that this is going to be the only option xplode, thanks for the second opinion!
I was hoping to find another solution, but it seems this will be the only one - oh well!

B.T.W. xplode, I now have 2 BA's to play with, so if you need a tester for any ROMs or anything, let me know! After all, once I get this thing sorted, I'll have a backup and can flash and reclone in minutes! This goes for Helmi and the other gods of the ROMs, too.

I am wondering if there would be a problem restoring a full backup to a different ROM with SK tools backup.. Give it that is form WM6 to another WM6. For example, I have Helmi's WM6 ROM and I want to flash to xplode's WM6 ROM.
It "may" be OK, but I wouldn't do it. Usually is a bad idea to restore a backup to a different cooked ROM (by the way, xplode one is 6.1, not 6).
The SPB Backup 2.0 is advertise as restoring backups to a different ROM version, but I didn't try it...yet... "Starting with version 2 it allows you to restore your data after ROM upgrade or on another device. With the desktop Backup Sync tool you can save your backups on desktop in automatic manner for later archive review or restoring on another device."
If you are decide to flash a new ROM, you can let as know if the backup work or not.
I will try it tonight, though I'm very wary as I don't want get stuck with hours of flashing back and forth.
spb backup
I am used the spb backup 2.0. It's really a very good backup system.
Try it, or look a demo Here!
So does the SPB Backup actually back up all your installed programs, register codes and stuff?
It's really annoying to try a ROM, install all your stuff, then decide you want to try another ROM only to have to re-re-re-reinstall everything.
Unless you belong to the type of people that think its a good Idea to put desel in a lead free petrol car or think that drink toilet cleaner will help with bad breath, I would not suggest using a back up of one device rom version to another. (even less if you want to from one device to another).
The issue here are the system files as they can be part of your back up (CAN as in its up to you to define) and the version of these files can be different,
The best praxis is always to syn your data (contacts, my docs) over your PC.
As for backup tools for things like Call logs you shuld try Dotfred pim backup
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
This has worked fine for me in the past (with in the same rom Version).
My thoughts, how ever it might work fine for you, again it might be also be fine for you to have a brick. Myself I would follow best praxis
Hi there,
i have been around here since i got my X1 and got quite some info from these great forums. Now that the Hard SPL is out i wonder if it is possible to make a ROM of my current Phone state, like an Image with all working stuff that i can just reflash whenever stuff goes wrong / i dont like a custom Rom etc.
I simply dont want to reinstall everything when i do a hard reset for whatever reason.
Is there a way to do this for the X1 ?

Spb backup works really well and is easy to use. only 25usd. I think you can download a trial.
SPB Backup
does that also backup all installed applications/settings and stuff like that ?

It backs up everything.
You can even choose a custom restore if you only want to restore your contacts or calendar.
thats great, thx for the tip, will definatly try and buy it
ok so all take the chance i know this has been posted a lot on this forum but to be honest the information i obtained from all the threads is not sufficient enough to solve the problem which is IS IT POSSIBLE TO CARRY OUT A FULL BACKUP AND RESTORE ON THE HD USING THE VARIOUS BACKUP SOFTWARE THAT WE HAVE SUCH AS SPB BACKUP, SPRITE ETC.. surely there must be a solution out there somewhere to carry out a full backup and restore because now that we have everything moving over at the hd rom development forum with new roms everyday surely a complete backup and restore of the entire system of the HD is now more important than ever because there is now a lot of software for us to use on our HD so please dont flame me for bringing this up again but its just a desparete attempt to get help. perhaps this way, the programers can then help to make some software that makes it possible to make a full backup and restore on the HD, or even maybe starting a poll or something with people stating what software they have successively used to perform a complete backup and restore thank you again guys and to be gratefull for this great website that makes it possible to provide us with a better device i will make my donation on 27/01/09 thank you xda, lots of love from UK
I think your . button is jammed LOL
I've been wondering the same thing, really. I'm pretty new to these devices. How do people cope with new ROMs coming out all the time as far as installed software? Is there a way to install everything you want including all the dang activation keys, then make a backup that will re-install everything once you update the ROM?
Not sure whether there is an easy answer. I don't think you can save all the various settings - but that does not take long. Place as many as your apps on the storage card a possible. Make sure you keep the original installation cab files on the storage card.
The difficult one (for me) is the bookmarks in Opera. I now keep the URLs on an email on my Pc and resend it after a hard reset. They each have to be opened and saved as bookmarks but at least no typing.
If there is an easier way I would be keen to hear as well.
I use Sprite Backup 6.5 for full restores after ROM Updates, and Level 1 (Personal data and programs) updates have never failed. Tested quite a few non-official ROMs from this forum, never had a problem. Never tried restore after a hardreset, never did one.
i think the best backup-restore program is Spb backup restore. I have used Sprite but it always fails me when it comes to restore.

Does anyone know what's the different between the 3 levels ?
Let's say I have my ROM and programs running perfectly but I wanna try out new cab files .. I will do a back-up and if anything happens I restore with level 3 ??
My vote is Sprite Backup. Have used it from many years and each update improves on the last. It is stable, functional and easy to use.
Hi all,
I know this might be a bit silly, but i've loads of apps installed and i want to avoid having to reinstall all of them.
Is it possible to install a new ROM while keeping all your data and apps? If so is it advisable?
Cheers
Hi. U can use SPB Backup and do a full backup which will backup everything including phone settings preferences. Its great and i use it all the time.

In my experience this method is not fool proof and does bring the possibility of registry and application association problems.
So do bear this in mind if you start to experience unexpected results.

I use Silent_UC which re-installs/updates the newly flashed rom in several ways, which helps a lot. PIMBackup for contacts/text messages. CHTEditor for manilla links.
But is there one thing that does it all safely, the answer is no.

I agree to a certain extent.Issues,if any, would be with certain tweaks such as manila/sense that do not work with all roms. It really is ROM dependant i guess. To tackle this issue in the past, what i did/do,is install certain tweaks or apps that are compatible with all ROMS and manila versions(after a fresh flash/reset)& do a full backup. This backup i like to call "basics". This includes phone settings aswell ie: Preferred ringtones, backlight settings etc. I then restore this backup each time i flash another rom,and its worked perfect for me so far. I then install other apps if want. Got to be honest, since i flash different roms often,i tend not to install alot of apps, only the ones i use regularly such as memmaid, resco explorer and the likes.
Sorry to go all long mate forgive me! just trying to explain my experience
Thank you all for your replies. I'll look into the back programs. Can't believe i didn't think of that!
Cheers!
Try Sashimi. A pretty nifty tool I found through the formums. It seems like a pretty complex tool, but seems like people who flash a lot, love it for keeping their apps intact after flashing.
