The IMEI number shown on device does not match the IMEI sent to the GSM network?!
I have to register my HD2 with the local authorities in order to be able to use it in Turkey.
While in the process of doing so, I came across something peculiar:
The IMEI number I get with *#06# (which, also is the number written on the unit's box) differs from the IMEI sent to the GSM network by one digit.
IMEI on device and box: 35XX XXXX XXXX 051
IMEI as seen by the gsm operator: 35XX XXXX XXXX 050
Apart from being unable to decide which IMEI to register --I think I'll go with the one "visible" to gsm operators-- This could be a serious bug.
Has anyone else experienced similar behaviour?
Regards,
Gwelwhir
Edit: ROM: 1.48.405.2 (71294) WWE -- I'll revert to the original NLD ROM and see if the issue is the same.
To try a different approach, I set up a BlueTooth partnership, and connected with PuTTY / Serial over BT to that port.
AT commands all returned "OK", but no information.
including AT+CGSN. The IMEI was not displayed.

try:
[email protected]?
(with the question mark)
but I think this isn't very interesting. you probably meant the IMEI on the box is 2 chars shorter than the one displayed by software (usually a "01" is the extra 2 digits). that's perfectly normal

Thanks Cmonex, I will try "[email protected]?" as soon as I can.
Other than that, I did not mean the IMEI on the box is 2 chars shorter, I am already aware of that. To clarify:
IMEI @ box: 35XX XXXX XXXX 051
IMEI @ dev: 35XX XXXX XXXX 05101 (+2 digits np here)
IMEI @ gsm: 35XX XXXX XXXX 050
I'll post as soon as I test the "[email protected]?".
The situation is resolved:
As far as the GSM CDR is concerned, even if they receive the IMEI "wrong", they process only the first 14 digits of the IMEI; the 15th digit (and the 2 more after that where applicable) being inconsequential.
(So, I was able to register my device.)
As for the "[email protected]?" query, it does display the IMEI, thanks.

Need some help from the developers. or anybody
Using your flash program, done my Xda no probs, But cant use
phone but i can send/rec text. Iam on vodafone network
it change my IMEI number using 00000035 at end, could this be the problem :?: . Your prog did not give me the option to change it.
Will there be an version 1.03 manipulator with updated options
rom ver 3.12.07 eng
rom date 08/13/02
radio version 4.06
protocol ver 32s54
This is strange. You say you can send and receive SMS, but not make calls. Could you make calls before using The Manipulator, or don't you know?
Could not makes calls before.
is there a way of change the imei using an hex editor and mess with ya program, if so what line and where?, and turn off save first 8 digits, this way i could clone my old phone imei number

Not sure what you mean: Yes, you could use the Manipulator to change the IMEI to any number you like. However, I failt to see why you'd want to clone your old phone: this is unlikely to all of a sudden give you the ability to make calls again.
Changing the IMEI to something with differing first 8 digits may cause your phone to stand out in the network: the fiurst 8 digits represent the type of phone. For instance: You probably do not want to appear to the network as a phone that is not capable of GPRS and then start making a GPRS connection.
i need to find out why i cant change any imei number cos ya prog wont let me, it comes up with error on that line, do i need to buy data cable (serial) or is the serial cradle i have good enough.
As for making clone of old phone imei number, they wont barr it will they,
cos not lost or stolen, so is there a problem with xda-manip and is there going to be an version 1.3
to all XDA developers (is their a change IMEI software USB) if yes where can i find it & if no is it going to be developed any soon? when?
I doubt the developers will be writing software for that particular use on the xda1, if you have a serial cable it will work on the xda as long as the radio stack is the early versions, it wont work on radio stack 4.21 for instance.
so where can i get the early(<4.20) Radio version coz i wanna use the
manipulator programme with my XDA2 device ?
????????????????
Chanaging IMEI is a way to get RID of those SPIES who pry into our personal info. Violations of our right to privicy....
Emil, can you expand on that statement please, the imei is the phones identity tag, if you have a prepay sim card your identity is unknown, if you have a post pay contract sim then your details are known and your phone is trackable by the sim details regardless of the imei/phone used.
i want to reset the timer to know how much i talked ,so where can i found that radio version
As far as I know, xda manipulator is for xda1 only.
IMEI-change and call-timer reset
No software exists to change IMEI or reset timers on Himalaya/XDA-II. Also no software does it to the Wallaby/XDA over USB, and The Manipulator, the program that does it to the Wallaby via the serial port only works with certain Radio Stack versions.
We have no legal or moral problems with IMEI-changing or timer reset, but it's a lot of hard work to write something which overwrites parts of people's radio software reliably. The last thing we want is 300 people wrecking their phones and blaming us. This issue has sort of scared us away from this type of modification.
(Unlocking is different since it only reads the ROM and then uses the 'official' mechanism of AT-commands in the phone for unlocking.)
No idea whether this topic will be revisited at some point, but don't hold your breath...
I can help you to change IMEI for XDA I or XDA II

Will you tell how it all works, and maybe even create a wiki page on it? We have itsme's and W4XY's works, bu we need many more people to publish the results their trips into the phone ROM and bootloader...
Peter,
Can you tell me how to read or find my IMEI number. I have a phone that was a display model and the lable on the back was removed so I can't get it there and the system identity shows a generic IMEI number (as I've found with all the updated 2003 ones).
Thanks,
David

Try dialing *#06# on the phone. This works on all GSM phones (since it is in the GSM specification to be approved as one).
That still gives the generic IMEI number with an extra "01" at the end. It seems to be a glitch in the 2003 software because the IMEI numbers are available before you upgrade but not after. I thought I was missing something but the other units with the upgrade are giving the same generic number (350314010000009). Does anyone else come up with that IMEI #.(May be T-Mobile only!)
David
nope
I upgraded my rom lots of time and never lost my original IMEI number (which is written inside the case, under the battery)
It must be in the "T-Mobile" upgrade that changes the number in the system settings.
no solution till now????!!!!!
Hello,
I brought my HTC TyTN from expansys and I'm currently on holiday in Turkey, I had to get my IMEI number registered on the countrys database with my passport for it to be usable but when the lady entered the IMEI, it had two extra characters at the end and the system didn't accept those so she removed them and registered that IMEI, she registered the same as the IMEI on the back of my battery, but when I do *#06# in WM, it shows the same IMEI with 04 at the end, now I upgraded my radio and the 04 at the end has changed to a 06. So in 15 days, my phone will be unusable in Turkey because it has a 04/06 at the end of the real IMEI and this isn't registered.
I'm paying 50$ via PayPal to the person who can solve this issue for me with either a tutorial or other ways.
Regards,
Ekin
i am not shur ... the last 2 digi are versions numbers ... ignore them!
See here for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMEI
Woot! Now that's a Wiki worth 50 smackers... although NetrunnerAT nailed it.
But I'm looking to remove the last 2 characters, is that not possible or are you saying the phone is allready reporting the right IMEI, the one with out the last 2 characters to my operator?
Why would you like to remove the last 2 digits?
Even your Telco knows the last part is a versionnumber.
I had to register with the phone's serialnumber (starts with an H).
http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis&sub=imeinr Here you can check your IMEI.
Because Turkey is dumb, I got my IMEI registered and they registered it without the last 2 numbers because their stupid system has a character number limit.
Forget about the last two numbers. The IMEA doesn't change, what you see printed under your battery is the authoritive IMEA. The numbers you are finding on your screen following the IMEA are something else, version numbers as someone else said.
Feel free to send me $50 at any time.
1). Imei of device is difference when i check by *#06#... Why?
2). Sometimes i got "NO GSM" but sometimes i got "GSM" on tri-color... Better solution plz..
Plz Help! SOrry English not so Good... My hermes still function, juz signal sumtime enable/disable periodically.. ( Maybe difference device IMEI with actual IMEI.. juz thinking.. )

Your imei would be different if you have had the device repaired and main board replaced. I had mine done. If you have had the device since new and no repair then that would be strange indeed.
Not sure what you mean about the No GSM but having it on tricolour (bootloader) ??
yeah, someone can change the imei sn to all the numbers he wants via some software now. But, stickly speaking, all mobile phones are assigned a unique 15 digit IMEI code upon production. Below you can check all known information regarding manufacturer, model type, and country of approval of a handset.
Tip! The IMEI can be displayed on most mobile handsets by dialling *#06#. Otherwise check the compliance plate under the battery.

yes... bootloader (tricolor).... i got gsm/radio appear on bootloader but not when i use the phone... i'll check system... my imei changed, radio disable although signal still available... but i can get call through also sms... how?
Select type, mobile. Ok, that works.
Select sub type, Galaxy Tab. Right, done.
Ok, next 2 boxes don't appear as there's no submodels to the Tab.
Fill in rest of the data, hit submit and...
Must fill in those fields that if I select Galaxy Tab, don't have anything in.
Np, will pretend it's a phone to get the serial number in, and...
No go. It knows the Imei is for a Tab.
Bit of a blunder releasing the device and you can't register. No problem, I'll just submit a... oh. I need to be registered... doh!
Yes, I've been trying to register for the last 2 days, its bothering me. What about a phone call?
Ditto, I'm mainly stuck at the serial number part. There is no serial number anywhere on this unit. I tried entering the MEID but that wouldn't take.
Also they don't have my specific model number all mine has on the unit and the box is SCHI800BKV but the site has two versions with an A and an L in the model number.
I was able to register 2 days ago. I was having the same issues before.
I think for the sub category, pick GTab again instead of TMobile Gtab, etc.
After that I was able to pick the other drop downs.
Having the same issue the Samsung customer service employee told me I needed to wait 2 days for what IDK
What you need to do is select 'Cell phone' istead of galaxy tab, and then enter the IMEI number in the serial number box. May take a bit of fighting with it, but it worked for me.
Nope, i think it's only taking IMEIs (GSM equipment), not ESNs (CDMA Equipment)...
I found the serial number in the "about phone" section - status. It lists the IMEI and the serial number. Had to trouble registering my Tab without the serial number at first.

Your equipment is GSM, i believe. CDMA equipment doesnt show a s/n under settings ~~> about phone ~~> status. Our equipment only show ESN #s in Dec and Hex.

This is ridiculous!
How do you have a registration page that only caters to one type of device? Not only that...when you try to register over the phone, no one can help you either!!!
So Not Kewl!
Do everything as you are supposed to on the page, selecting "Galaxy Tab." Then put in the Hex version of the IMEI starting after the first two characters, "0x" in my case. For example, your Hex IMEI code will look something like:
0xA1234567899ASA
but only put in:
A1234567899ASA
and it will fill in the greyed out boxes for you.

i assume you mean "put in the HEX version of the ESN," not of the IMEI.
Anyway, still doesn't register for me
I can't register my at&t tab! It says invalid imei, serial number. Little help please!

Managed to get registered last night in the end, silly faffy todo. Perhaps this should be done automatically when you buy it at the store

Yes, MEID accessed through settings->about device->status->MEID.
My model is a verizon. Not sure if that would make any difference.
Using the HEX worked for me.
Sprint.
Has anyone with an AT&T Tab been able to register? This is highly frustrating!!
No luck wit at&t tab. Can't get my $50.

Which brand Tablet do you have?
I don't get a serial or IMEI error, I get an error about the sub-category fields not being populated.
It's like the form isn't checking my AT&T IMEI number.
