Hi friends
i find out that my HD2 use 3% battery in 1Hr in standby mode (not using phone) (in GSM mode)
PLZ test ur battery usage (example leave ur phone for 2Hr and see the usage) and say result in this topic.

i found somethings !! see Post 23.

Hmm, Why?
Hi Wizard,
What are you hoping to achieve here?
Battery usage is a complicated scenario. Even in sleep mode your device is doing things in the background e.g listening for SMS & Emails, attentive to Exchange Server requests, dealing with items in the notification queue, etc etc.
Your initial conditioning of your battery also has a part to play in its performance as has the age of it. Also data connections also play into this scenario. In addition if you are in a low signal area your phone will spend more energy hunting for e.g. data connections than if you were, say, slap bang next to a transmitter.
People telling you that in 1 hour they saw x% drain or Y% drain tells you nothing unless you know why that is.
Do you want to rethink this and come back with a more focused thread.
Hope this helps.
WB
PS: You can kill off data connectivity by using a utility called Modaco No Data. Might help you if you think your battery problems are bad (do a search).
PPs: There's a stack of threads already on here about battery usage. You might want to link into those rather than kickoff yet another thread on this?

what an angry !
sorry man
Btw its vice versa here. My battery drops about 1% in 3h (or 4% in 12h exactly). If u have bad coverage than its annoying but normal that it drops that fast in standby.
Remember that the battery meter is not designed and is not accurate enouch to measure 1 and 2% of battery use.
If they where, then ALL batteries need to have the exact same discharge cycle. This is not possible.
So 3% one hour, and 1% next hour could just as well be a result from the battery meter calibration.
The battery meter have only two references. Full and empty. All values in between are guestimates

He's right about there being other threads focused on these issues and it's always best to first take a look and see if one exists before starting one. I say this coz I see this is one your first posts and you're probably not familiar with the rules.
As for battery life, yes as WB said there can be too many reasons why your battery drains this much. The most important of which are background data connections, updates, etc. So try using the "No Data" program and see if you get any improvement

i test it in 6Hr (19% usage at 6 Hr)
i test it 3 times.
19/6=~3%

all u say, was off (no update, no conection and ...)
when i use the phone battery usage is reasonable and acceptable. but in standby mode, this usage that i have, is much
Wizard,
I guess English is not your first language otherwise you would have recognised I was not putting you down. I was doing my best to be helpful.
I still think your starting point should be to install the application Modaco No Data, run it before you go to bed and see what happens.
There are just so many variable in battery usage, which is what I was trying to tell you.

yes, english is not my first language (it is my 3rd language)
i'll test it
11% on 3g with data connection on durring 9 hours
4% on edge with data connection off durring same 9 hours
Even though this is at some point so irelevant because battery usage is determined by so many other factors, wacky has a strong point here

i do a hard reset, i dont instal any thing, on EDGE, no gprs conection, and ... >> i have 18-19% usage in 6Hr. it's sooooooo much!!
i had same problem with HTC Diamond.
I also, when having no data connections on, regardless of GSM/3G, have a usage of 3% during ~8h (when I sleep).
i install "battery log" and monitor battery usage.
when phone is in use, show 160~200 ma. and when phone is standby, 6~12 ma.
i think its natural and good and acceptable. but why in practice, use so much battery ? ur usage is 3% in 8Hr but my usage is 3% in 1Hr !!!!!!
my phone use battery in other place except windows ?! lol my phone has seepage !
Wizard,
If you are absolutely sure you have all data connections switched off via the Modaco utility AND all Wifi, Bluetooth and Beam connections killed off ( for good measure you could also switch your radio off, ie the telephone, not the FM radio) and you still think battery usage is on the high side then there are a number of things you should consider:
1) You have a battery that was not conditioned properly and therefore is not discharging correctly
2) You have a dodgy battery which you need to change
3) You have a faulty device
4) You have both a faulty device and a dodgy battery.
For no's 3 & 4 I would suggest you send the device back under warranty or ask for an exchange. You know what to do with 1 & 2.

TnX my friend
now i have changed simcard and insert another simcard from another operator . (10 min ago)
maybe
you have the rare case of phone sleep walking
(sorry for my bad english)
I also have this problem. In plane mode (gsm off), with all data connection off, my battery have a usage of 11% during ~8h (when I sleep).
It's french SFR rom.
Mine's set to UMTS (3g) without having data connections/wifi/bluetooth turned on - it loses 2-3% each 4-5 hours (standby only).

which rom U use ?? (my rom is 1.43) (and i'm waiting for 1.61 official rom ) (without goldcard!)
searched this sub-forum for a bit, and the results were a bit strange. i have this problem with battery life , i have N1 set for my google mail account , and apparently it does checks like every few minutes or so. so far so good. the weird thing is , when i put it away , the battery drains really fast , like 5-7% per hour, which is a lot.i thought something might be going on , until i saw this page in settings about your battery , when it says how much of your battery have been consumed doing what , so what is top on your list? mine is idle , with 86% of the whole consumption . that's rediculous , i only had it for like 3-4days , fiddling with it all the time , and battery seemed ok with me , considering the amount of processing i was demanding , but the idle time consumption , just doesn't add up
any suggestions?
oh bytheway , is there any app that would show accurately your battery meter in numbers?
"Idle" probably refers to the percentage of your CPU that's not being used.
I'm using System Monitor free mkt app for Batt % as well as CPU, Memory & Storage usage.
thnx galaxys for your app suggestion , sure give it a try
any other ideas for this kinda problem?
Nexus GPRS activation on UK-O2 network
Sorry if landed in wrong thread, but noticed the initial poster was using Nexus on UK-O2 network.
How do I activate GPRS on the Nexus manually?
the O2 network provides this but my phone says this service not activated, despite being subscribed to an unlimited internet plan.
THX
This is strange. I know everyone is probably sick of these battery discussion threads but something weird has been happening.
I have ATK and UltimateJuice and with the two I can go 8 hours at night and lose MAYBE 1% battery. If I then use the phone normally it will last about 2-3 days with around 1% loss per hour (more or less, depending). Well, I find after opening numerous apps the phone begins to lose more battery per hour, sometimes upwards of 3-5%. I check ATK and nothing has changed that I can see. After restarting the phone the charge lasts longer and depletes at a much slower rate. So, this begs me to ask:
What is causing this and why?
and, How can I stop it?
All insight is appreciated! Thanks.
Notes: - same location for both cases
- WiFi enabled in both cases
- GTalk and syncing the same
Anyone at all?
i have an average of 8-9% battery loss overnight with only Google account on an active sync. over the day it'll drain randomly too. sadly.
no idea why but i'm living with it.
People well tell you not to but get ATK. I ignore all apps for syncing and important stuff and have it kill stuff like gallery, etc. I found it helped a lot with saving battery. UltimateJuice helps a lot with battery as well. I'm at 70% and it has been over a day an a half now.
the think i learned about all those auto *whatever* programs, they always end up causing more problem than what they solve
i only use them to manually end task apps that i don't want to have in memory anymore
otherwise i just leave them running
no effects on battery life
the battery life is more related to the WiFi usage & GPS usage
if you are not using any of those 2 just manually slide down the tab and click them off
you can go a whole 24+ hr if you keep GPS and WiFi off, and only use 3G/voice in moderation
hi guys,
i get huge battery drain spikes everytime i turn APN on. i goes as high as 400 mA. it drains my battery overnight about 50%. the possible culprits are yahoo mail and gmail, but surely in normal condition they won't cause such spikes. i wonder if my area has bad reception? i've tried many radios and this still happens.
What do you mean with APN? I think you're talking about data connection, am I right?

yes, you're right. i wonder if it's because letama wrapper that's included on the build i use (nexushd2)
If you use the latest letama wrapper that really shouldn't happen (at least not all that often anyway). Have you updated it?
Have you made sure things like facebook updates aren't all happening at the same time? Simplest way to find out is turn off ALL background syncing and see if it still happens, then reenable them one at a time and see which one brings on the spikes.
ok, apparently it's not really a spike. at some point while i was sleeping my battery had a constant drain of 300 mA. it killed the battery from 27% in an hour. ok, tonight i'm gonna try turning background sync off.
i wonder what app to use if i want to see what drains my battery the most during an interval?
i have this issue, (spikes).
Any update ?
Some people get battery life less than others and the simplest most common answer is the battery calibration. There are so many other reasons to take into account from having defective unit to what are you using your phone for. people spending more time on light apps such as simple chat app will get alot more screen on time compared to other who spend more time playing heavy 3D HD games. Additionally, wifi, 3G/4G, GPS, auto sync, bluetooth, NFC and brightness of the screen will have an impact on the battery life thus screen on times, so you should take into account all of these things. Comparing screen on times is useless as you don't know what the other person was doing during the screen on times and what other things were on.
Therefore, I decided to make this topic. I saw people complaining that their screen on of there phones is alot less than others, although they have all other services off and brightness to the minimum. before going into calibrating your battery, you should check whether your phone is going into deepsleep as expected or not. If not then this is what is draining your battery, you can use wakelock apps to check if any thing you installed preventing your phone from going into deepsleep.
Apart from previous reasons, calibrating your battery could be the solution. First, you should note that you need to do this once every ~2 months (avoid doing it alot). There are so many ways to calibrate your battery, and I will mention two here:
if you are rooted:
1- run down you device's battery until it turns itself off
2- charge it until it is 100%
3- use any app from the play store to delete batterystats.bin
4- you can stop here but the following steps will speed up the calibration process
5- repeat step 1
6- charge it fully without pause
7- use your phone normally and the battery will improve in the next few days (steps 5&6 should speed it up)
if you are not rooted:
1- run down you device's battery until it turns itself off
2- charge it fully without pause
3- turn it on
4- wait few minutes
5- charge it for one hour
6- use your phone normally and the battery will improve in the next few days (repeating 1&2 should speed up the process)
if anyone has any suggestion or comments or if I made any mistake please let me know.
please hit thanks if I helped in anyway
What to do after calibrating your battery?
now you calibrated your battery, you need to understand few things to squeeze the most out of your battery. the basic answer is to monitor your battery and avoid things that drain your battery. so what uses more battery, I will but list of things that use the most battery in order (what use the most to the least). The list came from me monitoring every single one alone (it might not be accurate)
1- Processor
2- screen
now people would say that screen uses more than processor. In order to test this, charge your phone to 100% unplug it and directly play heavy HD game for 30-60 min and go and check battery stats, you will see the game no.1 then screen no.2. the problem with the processor is that when it heats up, it wastes ALOT of battery as the heat is just energy came from the battery. if you want to extend you battery life, you should start with these two as they use more battery than everything else. To make it simpler I would say 1 hour of screen on uses battery enough to keep your wifi on for >1day (and I mean wifi not the whole phone with wifi on)
Recommendations:
a- avoid using apps/games that heat your phone (most games does, but try to avoid when possible)
b- Avoid using your phone while hot (this will degrade the battery and the screen and will hurt other internals such as processor in the long run and will also waste too much battery)
c- underclock your processor if you play to much heavy games (to protect your phone from heat and extend battery life)
d- reduce the brightness will save you good few hours of use
3- auto sync
4- 3G/4G
5- wifi
I put auto sync first because in order to have working auto sync, you will need wifi or data + processor to process what are you syncing
6- GPS
GPS actually consume more battery than wifi when both are working, but the good thing about GPS is that if it is not in use even if it is on, it doesn't use battery unless it was needed to locate the phone.
Recommendation
Turn them off when not needed. There are certain apps in the play store that turn off wifi, data and auto sync when screen off then turn them back on when screen is turned on. I use tasker which does this and check for downloads before turning off wifi or data.
you are more than welcomed to add any tips or make comments or suggestions
Are you sure you are talking about Xperia Z1 and not lets say Nokia 3310? You should not overcharge modern batteries, as they dont have the memory effect. In realoty discharging it to 0% and charging to full will actualy make battery worse and cause decrease of battery life. You should also avoid charging overnight if you want to keep your battery in good condition. The best thing to do is to keep it between 15% to 85-90%, and dont let it discharge/overcharge.

I do understand what are you talking about and I do know about battery memory. But you still need to completely discharge your phone once every ~2 months for calibration purpose. But you are right about overcharging it. I will modify the main topic to make these changes, Thx

No you don't, that's completely unnecessary with modern batteries.
Also, wiping batterystats.bin just clears the info in the battery usage page in settings, it gets wiped automatically every time you charge over 90% and has nothing to do with calibrating the battery.
So much misinformation in this thread.

you could have said it in a better way. any source about what are you saying?. There are tons of sites that agree with what I said, a quick search found this
http://gizmodo.com/how-to-take-care-of-your-smartphone-battery-the-right-w-513217256/1416982678
at the end they said this
"To get the most out of a lithium-ion battery, you should try to keep it north of 50 percent as much as possible. For the most part going from all the way full to all the way empty won't help; in fact, it'll do a little damage if you do it too often. That said, it's smart to do one full discharge about once a month for "calibration," but don't do it all the time. Running the whole gamut on a regular basis won't make your battery explode or anything, but it will shorten its lifespan."
and regarding wiping batterystats.bin. There are tons of articles and apps the recommend this and so many people said that it helped them. it is not just useless because you said so, unless you have strong evidence which I want to see.
This is old advice. With the new technology batteries it is not advisable to completely empty the battery.
There is no need to "condition" the batteries and they do not suffer from "charge memory"
Plus, there is already a thread in this forum about battery handling and tips
