G1 wont charge turns on to fastboot - G1 General

My G1 is having problems not sure if its because I upgraded to 1.6 from JF, or I split very little soda on the keyboard. Battery dies within an hour and now when I turn it on.
I tried to UNROOT get phone back to stock using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=491350
I formatted SD card also. When I try to press Alt+S, it doesnt complete the process.
any suggestions?

Likely the soda, ROMs tend not to cause major hardware failures, where as water damage does.

It worked for good 4 days after i spilt soda on keyboard,
any suggestions on how to pass fastboot mode?

Life after death

Okay, so I just got my Hermes on Monday. No less than 4 days later, I accidentally brushed it from my couch to a cup of tea I had sitting on the floor (what luck!). So, I waited a few hours, then tried charging it and turning it on. I then read in several places that you're not supposed to try to turn on a device after water damage because you run the risk of shorting it. I had little hope for it at this point, so I decided to take it apart to give it all a good cleaning with electronics cleaner. So, after taking it completely apart, and giving it a good aeresol spray down with electronics cleaner, I let it dry for 2 days. Today, I put it all back together and tried to turn it on, low and behold it actually turns on! Problem is, its on what appears to be bootloader mode (tri-color screen, dislpays IPL and SPL and just says Serial at the bottom). So at this point, I get slightly happy thinking I may just be able to flash it with the official WM6 RUU. So, I run the RUU, and the Hermes starts showing the progress, it gets all the way to 100% and the RUU says its finished. But, upon Hermes restart, it just goes back to bootloader mode. I tried to hard reset after 'successful' flash, but still restarts back to bootloader screen. Is there any other steps anyone recommends trying to try to bring my baby back to life?
Yoy MAY just need to give it longer to dry out in the nooks and crannies. There may be moisture trapped in micro switches causing bootloader mode to be entered. Possibly try a hair dryer or a fan oven on a very low setting - But be careful obviously. You could also try leaving the m/board on a radiator. (Take all the usual anti-static precautions).

I had a stupid cat knock over a glass of water on to my 8525 one day.
I immediately pulled the battery, took every thing out of it and set it out in the hot sun all day long (was summer then). By the ned of the day I put it back together and all was fine (thank god).
Haven't had a problem with it related to that incident.
So, I'm reading a lot about mitty.exe fixing problems like these (stuck in bootloader mode), but I can't seem to find out exactly what mitty is, or its purpose. I figure it may be worth a try, although it probably won't work. Can anyone point me in the right direction for mitty info? I've searched, can't find much of a description.
Edit: Okay, from a little more reading, I understand what mtty.exe is, and I see that some non-water-damage-related-stuck-bootloader issues are resolved by using the commands "SET 14 0" and "TASK 8". It seems that the former command is basically like a hard-reset, but I'm not sure what the latter command does. I'll update after I try this later today.
Okay, so did the mtty command and reset, still stuck in bootloader. Tried flashing with official htc at&t wm6. The phone however wasn't shipped with windows mobile 6, could it be that I need to flash it with the original windows mobile 5 that it was shipped to me with? Or is this thing toast.

Stuck at tricolour screen after visit to the toilet..

Hi,
A coworker of mine dropped her Diamond 2 in the toilet. True story!
Anyway, since it was brand new she dried it up and if you switch it on now you get to the tricolor screen. I tried attaching it to my pc, and the text at the bottom changed from serial to USB. I now thought I might have a chance to salvage the phone by trying to flash the original rom. owever, even if everything seems to have worked out fine during flashing, the screen (when ready flashing) turned blank only to go back to the tricolor screen again.
Any one have any idea on what to try next? Is it bricked for good?
The screen shows no sign of water damage whatsoever.

The best thing to do in these situations is to immediately pull the battery and put into a bag of rice to absorb all of the moisture before putting power to the unit thus risking a short circuit.
You may still have water shorting out your hardware keys and its putting the phone into bootloader mode.
My wife put her phone on the kitchen counter, well, it got completely wet. In addition to using rice, I put the rice and the phone in one of the vacuum bags and pulled vacuum, left it in for 2 or 3 days and the phone worked and functioned 100%. 6 months later, still up and running.
Thanks for the answers. I think it is as dried up as it can be though. She have dried it with rice etc. Is there any tip on what to do from the tricolour screen?
Hi,
I maybe didn't understand when the screen goes blank, but since the situation looks pretty desperate why not try to install latest HSPL, it's still a flashing procedure and should end up succesfully if you don't have any hardware damage. If HSPL flashing works, you'll be able to flash any ROM you like, official ones included. Since the device is not yours sorry for the silly question: you have WMDC installed on your pc ,don't you?
The screen goes blank after the bar goes up to 100% on the telephone. I have WMDC installed, but I cant get it to connect to the phone, so installing HSPL will be a problem or?
Edit: Doublepost
If you can't connect to WMDC you can't flash anything,I'm afraid...Any chance to flash by putting the ROM image into the SDcard? Problem is that official ROMs come in .exe format while flash procedure via SDcard needs the ROM image to be in .nbh format..I'm sorry, I'm stuck.
You most probably have a hardware problem, probably a button stuck. Try pressing volume up down repeatedly for example 30 times then try to turn on the device. If that doesn't work you will have to disassemble and dry off your device and check for a shortcircuit or some resistivity in the volume down area. Even if you dry your device on the outside, some water still remains on the inside (I know since I'm an electrician).
Sorry for posting in here - my issue is with an opal but it sounds like a very similar issue.
I tried to clean out the stylus holder on my opal with some washing up liquid on a cotton tip bud. Nothing happened at the time, but some washing up liquid must have got into the phone, as the next time I went back to it seemed to be bricked. I didn't know how to deal with washing up liquid so I disassembled the phone and put it into the freezer to see if that would get me anywhere. I didn't think rice would be much use at absorbing washing up liquid. Anyway, a few cycles in the freezer followed by a cold blast with the hair dyer seemed to have the phone able to get to the bootloader, and able to hard reset.
This is where I am now. Hard resets only get as far as displaying:
ONBL 1.27.000
SPL 1.27.000
GSM 03.29.90
with the 'smart mobility' splash below. That's it - after about 5 seconds the phone turns off. I can keep performing hard resets in this loop, and I can also get the phone into the bootloader 'tri-colour' screen where it shows
ONBL 1.27.000
SPL 1.27.000 (all in the red bar)
and then 'F256' in the green bar
the white bar will change from USB to SERIAL as appropriate.
I thought I'd cracked it when I downloaded the stock ROM from htc, and it seemed to run succesfully. However, once it got to 100% it turned itself off again and I was still only able to either unsuccessfully hard reset, or get to the bootloader screen. I've tried installing the stock ROM through an SD card too, and it seems to work again, but same result. I suspect the phone is a brick now, and there must be hardware damage somewhere important. Any ideas appreciated though.

[Q] Possibly bricked MT4G after attempting root with visionary 14, please advise

So like the total noob I am I tried to root my MT4G using visionary v14 (I think, can't start my phone to check) without having all the appropriate files in place. This caused Visionary to crash when I rebooted my phone. I gave it some time and then being unable to restart using the power button I pulled the battery. After that the phone has been totally dead, I can't get it to turn on at all or even recognize that it is plugged in. I have tried starting plugged into my computer, unplugged, plugged into charger and all possible combinations of SIM card and SD card in/out. Nothing. I am very afraid I bricked the damn thing, but I'd appreciate any input... especially since the the replacement would come with Gingerbread and I really don't want to have to go through the whole downgrading crap.
Thanks.
Cheers,
RobotPenguin
Hello RobotPenguin,
I'm not a specialist (actually, I'm quite a newbie here) but most of bricked device can boot to the bootloader or at least display the splashscreen.
Are you sure the battery is alright and correctly installed ?
Regards
I assume so. It was fully charged when it crashed and the "tech" at the T-mobile Store swapped out the battery in my phone with the charged battery from her functional MT4G to no benefit.
Thanks.
I believe this may be my answer... damn.

Well, lets check to see if it is bricked
1: pull the battery out
2: put the battery back / put on the battery door.
3: hold the power button and the volume down rocker.
* the device should boot to a white Screen with three Android Skateboarders.
**If you get to that screen it's a good thing.
**if you don't then you are SOL.
4: try doing a factory reset from that white screen
5: reboot the phone.
If it still doesn't boot you need to load the PD15IMG.zip onto the root of the SD card and start over.
If the PD15IMG.zip doesn't load (given the MD5SUMs match), or give you any errors at all you are SOL.

I got that far and no recovery screen... so I guess I'm SOL. I guess I'll just wait for the new one to come from T-mobile and do the whole downgrade bit so I can root the phone. Pain in the @$$, oh well.
Thanks for helping me out.

Most probably you've attempted to flash Engineering HBOOT ("root.sh" way of rooting) and failed, which left your phone without bootloader.
You can't recover from it.
if holding power and volume down does not get u into hboot then u r screwed. Hopefully u didn't cheap out and got the insurance for your fone. If u do have insurance on the phone then call asurion (the insurance company t mobile uses) and tell asurion that u lost your fone (say u left it on the bus).then pay your deductible and get another fone.
I have rooted 2 myt 4gs and they both crapped out for 3-10 days then magically started working. The whole time they were down all they would do is flash an orange light and vibrate 3 times when i powered on or vibrate 5 times and flash green when i tried bootloader. I pulled the battery out and left it out the first one was 3 days and the second time was close to 10 days then bam they came back up
+1
Thanks for the info guys

Need Help Please!!! Phone got wet!

Hi folks. I gave my HD2 to my wife "big mistake" and she got it wet with water I had it running Windows7.5. The only way it turns on is by plugging it in to wall charger or USB. Power button does not seem to work. I can get to magldr and boot to windows manually but it just reboots to magldr. Once I unplug the phone it shuts off. I am able to get into bootloader. I've done a task29 and flashed back to windows 6.5 but it just bootloops. I don't know if there is any hope for this phone but I'm not giving up that easy. I do have the latest radio and my hspl is 2.08. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you try doing the whole works, ie Stock ROM flash via an SD card? that will wipe the whole device, SPL, ROM and Radio, all included.
I do fear that its not going to make any differences though because......

His right, but I assume its a bit to late for that now!
One other thing you could try, and its a bit of a curve ball, try squashing the bottom of the phone around the keys (not on the keys them selves, but all around.
Typically the key issue and digitiser issue are linked to the panels separating, ive found that squashing it all together again can make the buttons and digitiser work again but I seriously doubt it will help in this casa but it costs nothing to try
Hopefull!
Got home from work took the battery out and i noticed the three little tabs from the power were bent. I fixed them up a bit and by a miracle somehow the phone works now! But theres something else wrong now. the touch screen does not work now! So I'm assuming I'll need a screen digitizer? Thanks for all the quick responses
Maybe, but try squashing it first, the cable is below the power button an has a habbit of falling out, squashing it together can work, its what's keeping my hd2 alive now, fixing the broken usb socket is somewhat more troublesum!

Rule number one don't turn it on. Remove all parts you can easily remove (sim card etc.) and let it dry for atleast 1 day.
Because if you turn it on, and there's water, there could be electronic shocks which damages phone inside.

So after all the tips and tricks. I still can't get the screen to be responsive. But at least it turns on now.
? The hardware buttons still work, so how do I know if I need to replace only the LCD screen and/or digitizer!?

As mentioned already first call on a wet phone is cut all power.
second is stripping it & letting it dry out for several days in a warm environment or using trick such as rice in a bag with phone to draw moisture out.
Running the device & flashing it while wet/damp is not the way to go.
Give it some more time to dry out & if digi does not respond perhaps a new digi is worth a shot pending on whether you want take the gamble & feel up to the challenge ...
you should have waited for it to dry at least before turning on the power. Your device has more likely been "grounded"

I am about to go crazy with this evil phone. j320a variant with complete stock firm

Ok, so this all started about a week ago. My dad has had this phone and for the most part has enjoyed it. The other day he calls (from the house phone) to let me know that his phone doesn't work. I was expecting the typical black screen so hold all the buttons to force a reboot and boom hero for the day.
God no. This phone would suddenly not boot properly at all. I mean I had trouble getting stock Recovery mode to even come up or download mode. I bought a new battery thinking it could help. Twice now I have managed to use ODIN to reflash stock firmware of 7.1.1 . Both times the phone would be fine and suddenly it would turn off and bam the same thing over again. Firmware screwed and it doesn't want to turn on reliably. Recovery mode would display all sorts of errors with mounting /efs and dm verity errors....
This must be a hardware problem right? I don't know what else to think at this point. Is it possible the restore of his backup from sammy cloud is corrupting it? I am willing to try this one more time and not restore any of his files or is it hopeless? Is there something fried?
And just for the record, I am not new to ODIN/Rooting/Custom Roms/ etc but at no point EVER has this damn phone been attempted to be rooted or anything. I hope someone has something positive to share or just put me out of my misery so I can destroy this f******* phone into a thousand pieces.
Has anyone ever had an issue where the plastic back cover is somehow causing the phone to short out or overload which makes it freeze or turn off? I swear this back cover is the cause of all of this. Last night i reflashed everything and really just forgot to put the cover on. It stayed on all night without a single issue. I rebooted and powered down multiple times and it turned right back on. Then I put the back cover on and what do you know, difficulties with powering on and freezing.
On the top right above the sim/microsd slot there is that spot with metal looking conduction material or something and it is also at the bottom near the charge port. What are those things? At this point the phone has become a pet project and I just have to have the answer. My dad already got a new phone lol. Any ideas?
