Hello,
I searched this forum, but I was unable to find a similar discussion: do you have issues when trying to send an MMS? I'm unable to send, the message that keeps bothering me is: "Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed..." etc. I tried looking at the connection settings, but the MMS ones look ok. Also, all other connections (internet, weather, etc) work ok.
Any idea?
OK, I've done some research and it seems the issue is with the HTC Messaging app that completly replace the WinMo one. For my network operator settings to work, I need to enter the following information: MMS server IP: port AND server address (http://wap.mms.orange.ro:8002).
They instruct me to enter them by selecting Start-Messaging-SMS/MMS Options - but this is obviously WinMo messaging application, which seems inaccesible due to the HTC one!
Any help on this?
HTC messaging - settings - options
menu - mms server.
Found it - thanks. The settings were already configured (probably due to Automatic configuration run when the phone first booted) - so the problem is still here.
Any idea if "Connect via" makes any difference? Now Orange MMS is selected; should I try to select a data profile (i.e. the one used by Opera)?
Yes, it should connect via whatever the standard data profile is.

I have tried lots of times to set up my XDA to get picture messages. I has never worked. I can surf the net, and get (but not send) e-mail(POP3).
Sometimes I have had an error message that says "Cannot connect with current connection, to change your connections press settings". If I press settings it goes to a page with: My ISP name and My work network.
As I have changed stuff sometimes, I can click download MMS and a yellow icon says receiving, and it stops!!!
I know someone will just say do a search.......but i have tried, the best settings I got were:
MMS
APN - general.t-mobile.uk
IP Address - 149.254.211.010
User Name - user
Password - one2one
URL - http://mmsc.t-mobile.co.uk
The first page of options in the MMS composer says
connect via: What goes here??
In the MMS composer setup there is no space for username or password, so where does it go??
Can someone explain the process in really simple step by step instructions , as just giving settings, and not explaing where to put them is not helpful for a dummy like me!!!
Thanks!
many operators require you dont make a connections like you did for the
gprs with all the same settings and use a different accesspoint name
often mms
and use that
i'm sure if you search excluding to the networking it forum and use the search string
Tmobile AND mms
you'll find some guides
the AND part mean that you will only get results which include both the search words
After further fiddling, I have found out I can send myself a MMS, just not get one from someone else.
Any tips?
Hello,
I have this weird problem.
Hardresetted my device to make sure only the nice programs get installed. Installed the Orange.cab too, to make sure all the settings for orange netherlands will be used.
GPRS works good and so on.
Only problem is that i dont see the mms inbox icon in Messaging. Weird thing is that when i go to mms settings in the inbox all settings are shown as they suppose to be.
Anyone know whats up ?
I installed only the following cab's from ext rom :
Default_cdl_wwe_version.cab
Default_ie_view.sa.cab
Default_Imate_PPC_SA_V5.5.03.cab
I dont see info about the other cabs that need to be installed to make mms work, but i could be wrong. Any help is welcome !
Thanks !
Jeroen
This happened to me as well. I'm not sure I want to do another hard reset right now to try to get it back though.
I got my device running nice and fast now, even skype works perfect with nearly no delay so i dont want to hard reset again either.
But i would like to use mms lol
It's good to hear im not the only one with this issue.
By default (after a hard reset), there is no MMS account configured in messaging. Are you sure you have populated your provider's server info and set it as default (in mms configuration -> servers tab)? I believe after that was completed, that is when MMS showed up as an acct. in messaging.

Yes, it is configured there. I even created a new server, and then deleted the old one. Still no MMS account folders.
Same here.. all mms settings are configured, but still no mms inbox..
Hmm...couple more things to check (whether or not these affect the creation of an MMS acct. in messaging):
- Make MMS server connect via "the WAP network".
- Provide a valid WAP address/port in your proxy settings for WAP access.
(These are addt'l things that I had setup and I am getting MMS in my messaging app)
I think you need the cab file: Default_CAB-shortcut-CDL-08Sep05.CAB...that has the MMS app in it...
Hi all,
Got my HD2 yesterday and have been busy doing the various tweaks, regedits etc and so far so good.
However ive run into my first real problem. I cannot bluetooth data to my wifes phone and i also cannot send sms with audio or video attachments.
I get a dialling connection popping up advising that its trying to dial from "mobile" and i have an option to "dismiss" but the message keeps popping up until i finally get a message saying that the original sms failed to send.
I can send normal sms and emails fine. Just sms with file attachments fail me.
Any ideas?
BTW im with o2!
Sms with file attachment, do you mean maybe MMS?

LMAO yeah sorry!
Not got my brain engaged today!
its probably something to do with the MMS settings. check with your network make sure they're correct. Its rare, but sometimes a network will change settings and HTCs defaults will be out of date.
As for bluetooth, try pairing the devices using a simple 4 numerical password, complex passwords can be incompatible with some devices. Also try reversing which device is host/visible....I hate bluetooth sometimes
Think i have the settings from another site.
Now ive no idea where to go on my hd2 to input all the settings?
Anyone give me a pointer as to where i configure the mms?
Tut tut, no-one ever reads the manual anymore
One trick you could try (assuming you can connect to the internet over the phone) is update the database of settings on the phone. Scroll over to the settings menu > Wireless Controls > Data Connection, Make sure you have the correct country and network selected already. If so click Menu > Update Database> Update Database. Reboot your phone and see if it works.
Ok assuming that didn't work and you still having MMS problems you can check your MMS settings by scrolling over to the SMS/MMS menu > All Messages>Menu>Settings>Options>Menu>MMS Server. Select the server you want to use or make a new server, you can input your MMS settings in there.
I have the following config in my mms settings for o2:
Server name: 02 active MMS
IP address: 193.113.200.195
Port No: 8080
Server address: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Connect via; o2 active
Send limit: 300KB
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
When i try and send an mms the following happens:
Popup box saying:
Cannot connect
Dialed:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason (then loads of other txt)
and then 2 options at the bottom a blue "settings" link and a "dismiss" option.
When i click on settings it takes me to a connections menu where i the following options:
My work network:
Add a modem connection
Add a new vpn server connection
setup my proxy server
Manage existing connections
and then 2 tabs at the bottom for tasks and advanced.

I've got exactly the same settings as you, and it just worked for me. Check with O2 - they may have a problem at their end, or something switched off for you.
Well ive got a 16gb card coming this week so once i get that im going to do a hard reset and set everything up properly (just been messing so far) and then see what happens. If not then ill phone o2.
I forgot to mention that i inputted those settings but in the "connect via:" drop down menu i have no option for "o2 active"
I just have work network, mms network, home network etc.

I don't really know what to say. I just followed his instructions word for word, and it worked fine for me. Where are you having trouble? At the first instruction, or part way through? How far do you get before you get something you can't do?
When i click on data connection i get the same error msg pop up saying "cannot connect"
then options to dismiss or a blue settings link
Ok now sorted. I deleted all my mms settings, went to data connection under wireless controls, made sure it was set to UK and o2 post pay and then made sure auto configuration was selected.
It updated my settings, just rebooted and tried an mms and all working fine!

Okay, this sounds like it's a data connection issue, rather than an MMS issue, as clicking "Data connection" will simply try to turn it on (if it's off).
Try this and let me know how you get on...
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup.
Make sure that the correct country and O2 are selected and click OK.
See if you still have the same problem.
If you do, I suspect that you can't do this next step, but it's worth a try.
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup, Menu, Update Database, Update Database, Yes.
It should either tell you that your settings have been updated, or that you already have the most updated settings.
If it said they've been updated, go back to the country and provider screen, make sure it's the right selections and click OK.

The one thing that was throwing me was this part:
Go to settings tab, click Menu, All Settings, Connections, Connection Setup, Menu, Update Database, Update Database, Yes.
I dont have that option under the menu. I just get:
Enable Auto Configuration
About
Exit

Very strange - I don't know why that would be. It's a way to ensure that you have the latest settings for your provider, and obviously quite useful when you have connection issues.
Never heard of it not being available though. At least you got the problem sorted without needing it!
i cant send and download mms but gprs working perfect
what to do all the setting is ok
To make my MMS work I had to do (and this is translated so might differ a little):
Message tab -> All -> Menu -> Settings -> Settings -> Menu -> MMS-server -> your profile -> then the connection was set to GPRS or WAP, change this to My ISP or My work network.
its not working

What ROM are you using? I do know that some of the more recent ROMs have this particular problem.
MMS not working on Vodafone HD2
I've followed the instructions on the vodafone.co.uk site carefully for MMS server settings but my device simply fails to send OR receive MMS. This is highly annoying for such a new device.
HELP! Someone must have it sorted.
I have exactly the same problem except im an o2 uk user, cant send or recieve mms when using a cooked rom.

And the same for me on VF UK. Can't send or receive MMS. Did you ever get it sorted?
not sure about vf, but for o2, you need two data connections setting up. 1 is wap, for mms, and the other is for actual data. If you set the mms server settings to use the normal data connection, it simply wont work.
Problem is when you go to settings menu all settings connection connection select networks edit, it only shows the currently selected data connection, you cant see that there is another connection setting there. So, you need to change teh top dropdown to the second data connection (o2 active its called for o2, whilst the normal data is called mobile web) and THEN you can see/edit teh settings for that connection.
the mms server settings need to be told to use O2 active and not mobile web, else it wont work.
Just some thoughts.
O2 user - same problem
I've just come back from an O2 shop, where one of the "experts" there failed miserably to get my phone to send or receive an MMS. I share all of the above frustrations.
samsamuel - could you do a step-by-step guide to the set-up you describe? I would like to try this but I am struggling to follow your explanation.

sorry, my hd2 is back at O2 being fixed, and its not easy to do a step by step from memory.
I shall bookmark this thread and try to remember to come back and write a manual guide when it comes back. (Should be teh end of this week, all being well)
The connection details I have for my O2 HD2 are:
(Under Message tab -> All -> Menu -> Settings -> Options -> Menu -> MMS-server)
Server Name:
O2UK
IP Address:
193.113.200.195
Port Number:
8080
Server Address:
http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Connect Via:
My Work Network
Messages Size Limit:
300 KB
WAP version:
WAP 2.0

no worries. if you still havent figured it out yourself and i havent replied by, say, monday, feel free to PM me and remind me. (I have the memory of a 90 year old goldfish)
ok, so heres what i did last time i manually set up mms for o2.
settings menu all settings connections connections add new modem
name o2 active (tho of course name doesnt matter)
modem cellular line gprs
AP name wap.o2.co.uk
user o2wap
pass password
domain blank
then, sms tab, all messages, menu settings options menu mms server new
name o2 active MMS (again, name doesnt matter)
ip 193.113.200.195
port 8080
server add h ttp://mmsc.mms.02.co.uk:8080
connect via **choose the name you gave the modem connection in part 1**
if you choose your normal data connection it wont work, it needs to be o2s wap server.
message size 300k
wap ver wap 2.0
soft reset, and it 'should' work.
Hello,
I'm a happy (well, more on that later) user of HTC Magic powered by CursorSense 1.2.6.1 and i have quite a problem with getting MMS messages while being connected to 3g network.
- i cannot send/recieve MMS messages when connected to 3G network
- i can send/recieve MMS messages when connected to WiFi and/or disconnected from 3g network
- Settings are ok, they're working fine on friend's HTC Hero (stock 1.5), using my sim card
- i have tried setting 'default' in 'apn type' account as well as leaving it blank
- while trying to get the MMS message i can see the 3G icon disappear for a brief second which would indicate that the phone tries to use second apn (the one for mms), but fails
- i have tried combining 2 profiles into one, did not work
- i have tried reflashing the ROM after full wipe
- it used to work, but suddenly stopped
- i have tried handcent, stompsms and built in messaging app
- i'm not using apndroid
- i have tried calling HTC help desk, told me to check my apn settings, same thing was said by my orange help desk
Anyone had a problem like that and got the solution?
I would greatly appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

First, you should check you apn setting.
Then try this: use "phone" and input *#*#4636#*#*
Phone information ->go to the last line"toggle DNS check" 0.0.0.0, if it is not allowed, please convert it to allowed.
like this:
0.0.0.0 not allowed ->0.0.0.0 allowed
Good luck!
holy ****.. i never knew about this.. thanks dude..
thank you stuart2008.
I have changed the setting you have mentioned to allow dns check but situation is still the same.
I've made some screenshots, i hope they're helpful.

OK, try this:
in the "Access Point Names",
select "MMs Orange",
then go to the last line"APN type", select it.
Change "mms" to "default", press "ok",
press "menu", select "save"
Then you will back to the forth picture's interface, select the round bottun behind the "MMs Orange".
Remember, when you want to use internet, you must change back to "Orange Internet"
Hope this is useful to you!
Thank you for your reply.
I am fully aware of how to enable MMS or Internet access, the thing is that i want them both working at the same time.
I don't even have to set mms apn to default i only have to disable my regular internet apn for MMS' to work.
Still, i cannot use both services at the same time.
I just had a customer with a non-3.5mm Mytouch 3G that wasn't recieving MMSs. I found this thread, toggled the DNS check to allow, and it fixed the problem. T-Mobile tech support has been working with her to fix this problem for a while and even replaced her phone once already. Thanks for helping me solve her problem!!
