Hi,
My first post - sorry about the agressive title, but I really am a little frustrated with my new HD2 which I have had for about 3 weeks now. Some of the things may be due to my ignorance and others are to me clearly errors:
1) Alarm clock does not always work. I set the alarm and set the phone to silent (I use that every day). The alarm goes of, but only displays a message on the screen and no sound (which reallly does not wake me up). I tried experimenting and turning up the ringer volume and setting a new alarm. The result is that the phone uses my e-mail sound for the alarm! If I turn the phone on/off everything works fine again for a while. I have set the flag is the settings specifying that alarm should sound even i silent mode.
2) Data connectivity drop outs/malfunction. I can have all signal bars on a 3G signal and the browser gives me "Not able to display page". I've tried Opera and IE and I've also tried closing all tasks, nothing helps. If I turn the phone on/off everything works fine again for a while.
3) Not able to delete multiple mails at once. On my iPhone I can click Edit, mark the mails I want to delete and then click delete. I get a lot of spam/commercials that I delete without reading, so its a nice feature for me.
4) Keyboard is just way to sensitive - I make so many typos on the HD2 keyboard and the arrow keys are next the space key, so many times I also end up pressing those
5) Speakerphone - the volume can wake up dead people and it is not possible to turn it down (enough)
6) Dropped network connections/no access - The phone seems to switch constantly between E/H/3G connections and sometimes inbetween I just don't have network access at all, e.g. I can't make/receive calls.
7) Video recording. If there is just a little movement in the scene - I get seasick from watching the recording
8) Freeze during incoming call. The phone just freezes and the Start menu changes to: "We're sorry..." - Soft reset required...sigh!
9) Mails deleted on the phone (OUtlook/Exchange account) is kept on the server and visa versa. On my iPhone, deleting a mail on the phone or in Outlook instantly (with the next send/receive) removes it from the phone/pc. On my HD2 that does not seem to happen
10) Charging via USB/PC - I use that a lot, also on pc's that do not have ActiveSync installed. On the iPhone you can do that and when you plug it in it brings up a dialog asking what you want to do - ONCE. On the HD2 I get a messsage saying "New hardware is detected" every single time I unlock the phone e.g. to read a new message, mail etc. That is so annoying.
I'm on 1.48 and applied all three released hotfixes (Camera, SMS and SD card). I've only installed Tomtom and Navigon (trial) and nothing else.
Any help is appreciated as I'm stuck with this phone for the next 6 months.
Thanks,
Jacob

Throw it away, better yet send it to me!
I mentioned that in another thread, but I think it fits better here :
What I hate about the HD2:
1- Screen bugs. You must rely on your luck to get a good working screen
2- Voicecall quality: for some people it's acceptable but for too many others, the quality is one of the worst you can get for a 1000$ phone. Noise, crackle, distortion etc..
3- SMS loading time is miserable. HTC still is not aware of the problem or they are ignoring us because they know that their software code is buggy and needs recoding
4- Some if not most HTC devices have some hardware flaw like screen not evenly aligned with the frame that puts some question marks whether if it's going to put us into trouble in the future or not ie: top notch ( can leak water, dust, backlight, whatsoever ) or something like that http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4&postcount=94
5- Mediocre back speaker performance. And when it rings, it really feels like a cheap phone.
6- loose keypad. That's not really a problem but sometimes it's annoying, it also feels cheap in hand although the build quality is almost excellent.
7- Poor battery life, I mean really poor. If I forget to charge it at night, forget about calling me the next day.
8- Very sharp lens frame. That's not a big deal if you keep your device in its case but if not, beware, this thing can scratch anything it touches.
That's for me, you must also note that what I wrote is subjective and based on a comparison with my old XDA and HTC devices.
Hope that clears up things.
Hi WB,
Yep - I've read most of the posts (that looked relevant) on the Leo forums for the last month or so. I'm also aware that I can e.g. install a different alarm clock, connect to the standard button/place on the screen (described on Pocketnow), I also know there is a sensitivity tweak, I can install alternative keyboards and so on, but come on should that really be necessary on a state-of-the-art phone like the HD2?
Best regards,
Jacob
yeah, I got f-****ed by the alarm clock twice .
blame myself for not testing out.
Funny, that I do not seem to have your problems in the even no. of your points 2,4,6,8,10
A question of each piece of HD2?

I gotta feeling you have totally different device man Seems this is really a question of each piece of device... E.g. I've no bugs with screen, keyboard, calls, alarm clock... Also after the official fixes and some additional patches (DAMIEN's camera fixes) the photos and video in mpeg4 is awesome (you can check out my photos on forum).
sorry for stating the obvious but maybe you actually still want an iphone. sell Leo and get an iphone 3GS mate as you clearly still stuck on iphone.I have many annoying things on mine but i am sure that customs roms will fix all these issues when we can flash them. its the same with most new devices mate, they are just not perfect and patience is needed. the raw power under the hood of this thing has not been tamed yet dude so hold tight. it took the HTC Rhodium to finally get a good blend of touchflo 3D and winmo. it will get better dude
OK, so let's try to help a bit, shall we?

Yes, that is a problem that Windows Mobile has had from the beginning. I've got no idea why they don't get that fixed, but whatever...
...there are good replacemet alarm programs, like G-Alarm and others, that are much better that the built in alarm. Try one of those.
2) Data connectivity drop outs/malfunction. I can have all signal bars on a 3G signal and the browser gives me "Not able to display page". I've tried Opera and IE and I've also tried closing all tasks, nothing helps. If I turn the phone on/off everything works fine again for a while.

Sorry, I can't help with this. Maybe it's a problem of the phone's radio firmware that doesn't work well with your carrier's network.
Watch out for radio ROM upgrades!

8) Freeze during incoming call. The phone just freezes and the Start menu changes to: "We're sorry..." - Soft reset required...sigh!/QUOTE]
Disable Windows Error Reporting with BSB Config.
Error Reporting is responsible for several problems, including music player crashes and others.
9) Mails deleted on the phone (OUtlook/Exchange account) is kept on the server and visa versa. On my iPhone, deleting a mail on the phone or in Outlook instantly (with the next send/receive) removes it from the phone/pc. On my HD2 that does not seem to happen

Have you enabled push synchronization?
Every change I make on my phone Outlook gets immediately synchronized with my Exchange account and vise vers, so maybe you just have not enabled push.

True. But I prefer the standard WM SMS interface anyways, so what? I think HTC should not have made a replacement in the first place, now they only have problems with it...

Hardware flaws? Not at all, the HD2 is probably the highest quality phone ever created. Of course that does not eliminate the possibility of production faults, but saying that 'most' devices have flaws is ridiculous.
5- Mediocre back speaker performance. And when it rings, it really feels like a cheap phone.

Well, actually, according to professional tests, it's one on the better speakers among phones. Not the best, but better than e.g. the iPhone and lots of others.

True.
Okay, now to my own list (which is a bit shorter):
1) Storage. Most people who buy the phone probably don't have a clue about hov to free up the internal memory, how to delete Youtube caches, the Copilot executable files etc. That is a huge issue, because those same people also have no clue about how to get applications from outside the Marketplace, which doesn't allow installations to the storage card. This is a huge issue for non-powerusers, and given the popularity of the phone, there's probably lots of users running into it.
2) The music player: There is no search bar or (alphabetic) scrollbar.
3) UI flaws: Swiping through TouchFlo Tabs should be fluid, like swiping through pages on the iPhone's Springboard. Scrolling in TouchFlo is not optimized, can be made a bit better via registry (speed, friction), but still laggy sometimes. Pinching in Opera is much too slow, that's much better in Safari. RSS Hub lags a lot.
4) The messaging applications. I've not had any problems so far and I've turned it off in favor of the default one anyways, but HTC should not have created it at all. The default one was okay and similar to the Email one as part of Outlook, there was nothing wrong.
5) The radio firmware - buggy as hell, that's all I have to say about it.
6) The camera flash brightness and/or exposure should adjust according to the distance of the target, which is determined by the auto focus, to prevent overexposure.
Other than that: Great phone
No phone is perfect these days, unfortunately, but this one, I think, comes closest.

I agree with you. However windows mobile devices are not as "simple" as the Iphone that I believe you have just come from. I know I risk opening up world war 3 by merely mentioning iphone in this post so let's move on quickly.
Regretably, as an early adopter, you will have to invest some considerable time tweaking the device to get it to what you thought you had bought. Most seasoned winmobile owners are used to this, hence the existence of XDA-Developers.
Once innovations like SPL/Hard SPL are with us then you will, if you wish, get the opportunity to change your roms at will and customise your device ad-nauseum. If this is not the journey you wish to take then you will have to reconsider your purchase and go for something else.
I'm definitely not being arsey, just being a realist.
Hope you make the right decision for you.
Cheers

@Seed_al: This is really good stuff - thank you very much for taking the time to answer my post. I will give BSB Config a try and also G-Alarm (I really depend on the alarm to wake me up )
The tip for selecting multiple messages is also great. Another n00b question - how do you enable push for an Outlook account?
Thanks,
Jacob

In fairness, he's getting (mostly) constructive responses, so if he gets answers to problems then isn't that what this whole forum is about?
I do actually agree that there are too many "slagging off" threads, but as long as something good comes from it then it's worthwhile. If someone reads it and fixes issues they have with their phone, then who cares about the people that simply agree and flog their phone. That's 1 less person whining on the forums! lol

Excellent answer and you are right - the unmentionable (is that a word) puts much harder restrictions on what can be done and by whom.
You are also spot on with the earlier adopter - I'm always doing that, not only with phones Maybe I should just see this as a new opportunity to explore the WM world I just need to sort out the most basic issues, like alarm, keyboard, mail etc. I got a 6-month contract with the phone, so I definately keeping it and I really like the hardware side of it...

Jacob

Well, with a bit of luck, you'll get to see a lot more within those six months... maybe we HD2 owners will be among the first to be able to try out Windows Mobile 7
But yes, I fully agree with wacky.banana. There is a relatively high learning curve with Windows Mobile and it can't be denied that there are/were issues with the first devices/software versions that we early adopters have/had to deal with.
On the other hand, we get some great advantages over the unmentionable phone, but of course also disadvantages - there is just no perfect phone - but I personally love the HD2, think it has a lot more advantages than problems. In the end, there probably will never be a perfect phone, and it will always be a personal decision.

Disagree. He has the right to say what he wants. Besides he is asking for help, not whinging.
The whole thread was constructive before you jumped in. Please don't act in such a way as to get this thread closed. The OP has the right to say what he is saying whether you agree with him or not.
That's democracy and is what free speech is all about.

In fairness mate, you should have just not commented if you felt like that. You can't promote the free speech of the OP whilst telling someone not to post what they think. It's gone already, and not many people took any notice. It's no biggie, so don't make it one
Edit:
I just re-read that post and want to make it clear that I wasn't trying to tell you what to do. I just want to keep the forums as friendly as possible, so offered an opinion.
@onkeldunkel
Tap the notifications bar to bring up the notifications screen, then tap the network icon to open the comm manager. There, make sure 'Microsoft Direct Push' is activated.
If yes, then go to Start --> Connectivity --> ActiveSync (or wherever ActiveSync is in your Start Menu). There, tap on Menu --> Schedule.
This is where you can configure the Schedule for syncing with your Exchange server.
If this is set to 'as items arrive', then every change on your phone should immediately be synchronized with the server.
Let me know if it works.
@those people arguing above
I also hate all those 'I hate/sold my phone' threads, but this one here is not of that kind!
This one is not a troll thread for whining/complaining, it's a constructive thread asking for help, so please stop the fighting and don't destroy it.

I've had this phone nearly a month now and it's been pretty rubbish! It's done a couple of cool things, but nothing has been great. There's been bugs in absolutely everything. I'm on T-mobile (MDA Vario II) and running the 1.21 ROM Version.
Firstly, the active sync is rubbish! On Windows XP. It's extremely tempremental.. Some days it'll work fine and connect, others (most days!) it won't work. Windows will make the "doo-doo" noise to say that a device has been connected, but active sync won't connect. What rubbish.
It decides to not receive messages, until I open the Messages app. Also, it sometimes likes to send a message, then when I open the Messages app later on, it'll resend the last sent message and notify me.
MSN Messenger. Buggy! I hate the fact it tells me whenever someone comes online, flashes up while I'm in the middle of typing and I have to click Ignore to get it to go away. But there's no way of turning this off (to my knowledge!). Also, it sometimes likes to randomly open the on-screen keyboard, or only show messages in a tiny amount of the screen.
The camera is disgraceful. It's so slow that its basically un-usable. You have to point it at the object and wait quite a while for it's sensor to pick up the light, and most of the pictures come out over-exposed anyway! Also, the lag on the photos is so long most photos blur or the subject has moved by the time it takes it!
Sounds. The fact that I can't have it not beep every time I send a message, but have it so it makes a sound when my alarm clock goes off! That's stupid. Also, it's rather difficult to hit the button to bring up the box for changing the volumes. And why isn't there a seperate ringer volume and a phone volume? I'd like it so I can have a low volume when I'm playing games like Worms, but still have an ok ringer volume!
It likes to randomly connect to GPRS. Good thing I have unlimited data usage!
Today Screen. I can't really put anything on it. It's decided it won't let me put much on it except Calendar, Tasks and a couple others. Why can't I put Pocket MSN back on the today screen?!
It's stupid that to actually make this a decent product, you have to use so much 3rd party software! spb pocket plus sorts quite a few issues with the phone out, and gives a much more usable today screen, but I really don't want to pay 20 dollars for it! (But I guess I'll have to..)
The phone needs so much work on the software to get this up to a good standard. It has the hardware there, just wm5 for it is rubbish!
Sorry about my incredibly grumpy post. I'm just a bit annoyed with my phone today! Am I actually able to upgrade the ROM Version to something higher (1.35?) but on a different network other than UK T-mobile and it'll still work alright with the sim card? I may try it on the next time active sync decides to work!
Then please get rid of the device and stop bugging us...
I'm very happy with my Hermes and I'm keeping it.

Wow! It sounds like you're really having an awful time trying to keep up. It's really too bad the telco providers don't let you know the level of technical expertise you will need to be able to master the various devices out today. My Cingular 8525 does need some constant care and feeding, but being somewhat of a techie, I actually enjoy this kind of activity ... look at it as playtime, and wish I had more of it. I've looked through your previous posts, and I see that you haven't really been having any fun with your device. What a shame!

Hmmm. I've had mine for about two months now. It's my first PDA device since a PALM V about eight years ago. I have never experienced this. Might be due to some conflict between apps you might've installed/uninstalled, or other toying around with things that are not completely understood. Maybe it's time to do a hard reset (hold down left and right softkeys and press the stylus into the hole on the bottom, then open the slideout keyboard and press R and then SPACEBAR) and see if that fixes things. Then read the manual, and be very careful about what changes you make and software you install.

I can't say I actually played with Messenger that much. I must admit that I LIKED when it told me that a friend had logged-in, but I guess this is a subjective thing. There are other options to using the installed MSN Messenger, though. You can use one of the online versions and see if those are more to your liking, or you can DL several other options. You just need to look around the Internet. There are free ones and ones you need to pay for.

Well ... yeah .... it's a 2MP phone camera. As you can see in my signature, I typically use a digital SLR for serious photos, so I didn't expect much from the onboard one. Still, using some common photography techniques and a bit of practice, I thought the darned thing did pretty well ... better than an old Oly digital I used to use.

Mine doesn't beep when I send messages, and DOES make sounds when I set my Alarm Clock. It even reminds me to turn up the volume if it happens to be off when I set the alarm. Again, maybe it's time to hard reset, or maybe look through the manual.

Yes, Unlimited Data Plans are great with these phones, especially for when the phone automatically determines that it can give you a high-speed connection and seamlessly turns those connections on for you. If you don't like this feature, there are FREE programs you can get from this very site that lock you into GSM mode.

I don't see how this relates to the phone, frankly. This is WM5, and ANY phone sporting that OS is going to be the same story. Maybe you'd prefer something Symbian, or maybe something more RAZR'ish. But the beautiful thing about WM5 is the fact that you can add on other apps to configure it the way you choose, which is more difficult in Symbian, and impossible with RAZR's.
jamiepyrite said:
It's stupid that to actually make this a decent product, you have to use so much 3rd party software! spb pocket plus sorts quite a few issues with the phone out, and gives a much more usable today screen, but I really don't want to pay 20 dollars for it! (But I guess I'll have to..)

Well, yeah ... hmmm, you might have to pay for some of the nice add-ons. I guess PC's and laptops are also guilty of this, in that, if you don't like the way they come out-of-the-box, you MIGHT need to buy something else.
In my own opinion (not that it matters much), I plunked down $499US on the phone, which represented a significant markdown because I agreed to have it sport Cingular logos. If I could afford such a device, paying $20.00US for a decent piece of software to go with it isn't going to kill my budget. It's one of the things that should have been considered prior to purchasing the phone, I guess.

Seeing your posting history, it seems that this forum is the one you dump on whenever you're having a day like this. Maybe you should email HTC, T-Mobile and M$, instead, since they seem to be the source of your wrath. The folks on this forum attempt to help people (and very often succeed beautifully). They don't make the devices, the plans, nor the OS's that seem to be giving you problems.

Jamie ... no offense, but if you can't figure out how to make your alarm clock make sound, I don't think you should be toying with upgrading the ROM stuff just yet. Maybe, as I said earlier, this just isn't the device for you. RAZR's are really cool looking, and you can probably find some games and ringtones for them, if you're willing to pay some $$$.
Kindest regards,
I've had this phone nearly a month now and it's been pretty rubbish! It's done a couple of cool things, but nothing has been great. There's been bugs in absolutely everything. I'm on T-mobile (MDA Vario II) and running the 1.21 ROM Version.

I don't get any beep when I send a message and my alarm goes off fine. And maybe I've misunderstood here (sorry if I have) but there are two seperate volume controls...one for the system and one for the ringer and you can set their levels individually. Sometimes the program takes over all of the volume controls together...but's that's a gripe with the program not the device.

Jamie, there are lots of people on here ready and willing (and some even able) to help you sort your machine out.
What I would suggest, is that you do a hard reset to get back to a clean machine, and then every time you get a problem, search this forum to see if it has come up before. If not, or if you're not sure on the solution, post up and people will help you. I know it's a bit of a pain if you were hoping for an 'out of the box' fully functioning machine. PPCs are just not like that, but they are incredibly versatile and powerful, there's just a learning curve to them.
Start again.
I have a Vario II with the same rom and my experience with the phone is exactly as per Athiqueahmed's post. I haven't experienced the problems you have at all and I have had my phone several months now.
The only time my phone has gone wrong is when I have decided to 'tweak' things with my limited tech knowledge and ultimately done it wrong or installed buggy 3rd party software
Assuming you are operating the phone correctly and not creating these issues yourself by adjusting registry settings etc.. then, if a hard reset does not solve the problems, I would suggest that you get T-mobile to look at it to see if it's faulty and do it quick because as far as I am aware T-mobile UK do a straight swap within 30 days if your phone is faulty, after that it is standard repair service.
I'm not going to list all your complaints but I can say that the Cingular 8525 I have has a really impressive camera for a cell phone!
Not that I think that's the most important feature for a phone. It just happens to be the best one I've seen to date.
And I've had tons of fun looking for and installing all sorts of Apps. I do like this phone.
Wow, thanks very much all of you for the excellent responses! This really is an incredibly helpful and friendly forum here
Reading back on what I said, I think I came over rather harsh about the device. I do love it to pieces and it's a fantastic piece of equipment, I'm just having a bit of a hard time adapting to it from being so used to Nokia Symbian.
I've now got spb pocket plus 3 and it's great. It's making me much happier about the phone, being able to do everything I want from the today screen!
About the alarm clock, etc. problem: When I go into Settings>Sounds & Notifications, the third tick box down is Notifications (Alarms, reminders). If I have this unticked, it disables sound for when it says "Message Sent" but also disables the sound for the alarm clock. I just tried disabling it then going onto the alarm clock and checking the ringtone for the alarm clock and it said it won't sound unless Notifications is enabled. But, if you go into the Notifcations tab, there isn't an option to change the tone for Text Message Sent. Only MMS Message Sent.
I'll look into 3rd party applications more when I have the time, I'll also try a different USB cable to see if it makes a difference
And as computer illiterate as my first post makes me sound (I'm quite good with computers, honest!) I can manage flashing the ROMs. I've done it alot with my iriver H320 I'm just curious as to whether it's ok to use a ROM that isn't made by T-mobile with the T-mobile SIM. Flashing a fancy Mp3 Player is a bit different!
Thanks
Thanks for the advice guys. It's a great help!
Before you purchase a new cable, you might want to try Activetweak, a free application, which, amongst other things will entirely stop activesync processes and then start them again. This seems to have resolved my occasional sync will it/won't it problem.
I noticed that if I soft reset the device, and rebooted the pc, waited for them to 'settle down' and then sync'd it would always work. The above app means I don't have to do that anymore.
If you don't mind losing the message sent notification altogether, the Wiki page has instructions on how to do this <<<Click Here>>> (you might want to read through the Wiki, it has lots of good tweaks etc.. on it which might interest you)
I find having delivery reports switched on, so I get a text when it has reached the recipient, is all I need. I don't need or miss the 'Message Sent' notification at all.
Hope this helps

My computer cannot use it as a modem.

I take about 2hrs of calls a day.
I use Pocket Informant 2007 which is excellent and work well in the project managment job that I have.
I use Listpro for my project lists
I use eWallet for all my sensetive data
I use PocketIE for Traffic updates while on the road in the UK but I have Opera if I want a more rich internet experience.
I use Coolcamera which has improved the out put of the camera no end and photo blog to my splashblog account.
I use resco pocket radio over wi-fi for internet radio.
I use Resco audio recorder for meetings which stores audio on the storage card.
I log into my home system with Logmein, and control the device while docked though active sync using SOTI pocket controller.

Hi Robin,
I have to admit that I have had my share of glitches and things not working right, but I don't agree with your overall assessment, and am loving my 8525.
But as this is my first PDA phone, Maybe it's my own ignorance that gives me this bliss.
From my experience, which compares this phone to a bunch of crappy Motorolas that couldn't do more than act as a phone (and sometimes failed at THAT), my device plays music, gives me 800-900+ KBps throughput on the Internet (unless I click it into wi-fi, where I get 1.6 MBps) ...and this is full Internet ...not some cheesy t-zones type of sub-sub-subset. I can get maps and directions, take and view photos and videos, attach to my desktop and laptop computers, configure almost anything I want on the UI, create, edit, view and share Word, Excel, text and other types of documents, retrieve and organize email from all of my accounts, play games, manage my contacts and my calendar, and it seems, a gazillion other things. This is all not even mentioning it's use as a phone/speakerphone.
All this, and a zippy processor, in a package that fits in my hand or shirt pocket, I find astonishing!
If this is 'the most useless device you've ever owned', I for one would love to hear about the devices to which you are comparing it!?!?!
Anyway, that's just my $0.02.
Best regards,
Well I am glad other people are having a better experience.
But my K-JAM seemd far more stable, never once froze on me when I got a second call and actually felt faster than this phone!
Unless I have a dud?

You are always welcome! In regard to your trouble with alarm software, you may consider checking out WAWA alarm software from noviimedia - this application does really a lot, but it's main and unusual feature is to let your handheld turn on your home theater (TV, DVD-player, etc.) to wake you up in the morning. (http://novii.tv/pocketpc/wawa) I purchased it yesterday and now I recommend it to anyone - it's great!
AggravatingSync
To be fair, ActiveSync is a Micro$haft application, I have the same problems. My best luck occurs when I launch AggravatingSync, right click on the icon in the lower right hand corner of your Windows PC, click Connection Settings, uncheck the Allow USB Connections (so as to not allow them), then click OK.
Then, unplug your USB device from the computer, wait 5 seconds, plug it back in, wait 5 seconds, right click on the icon in the lower right hand corner of your Windows PC, click Connection Settings, check the Allow USB Connections (so as to allow them), then click OK.
That has worked for me so far when AggravatingSync is on the fritz.
I am T-mobile US customer but I supercid/unlocked the phone and run the HTC 2.05 rom. I would recommend unlocking the phone (I have the Cingular 8525 flavor as T-mobile US does not have the Vario II).
Good luck.

If your PC has Bluetooth, try ActiveSync over BT - that way, you might be able to isolate whether it's an ActiveSyns issue, a Hermes issue, or a sync cable issue.
Having used the HD2 for 4 days now I thought I would like to share my everyday problems with you.
MAJOR PROBLEMS:
- MAJOR lag when opening a treaded conversation with more than just a couple of messages. Sometimes you will have to wait more than 30 seconds before you can begin typing if you have a long message history with that person.
- Opera does not support flash.
- Volume-control is very buggy and in persistent. Sometimes they control the volume other times they skip through songs.
PROBLEMS:
- Auto-capitalise doesn't work while texting
- Youtube videos cannot be opened from the youtube homepage and the application is very limited = no way to watch subscribed vidoes, channels, playlists, etc...
- The dictionary sometimes randomly turns off (not that it changes from XT9 to ABC - it just doesn't work)
- The danish dictionary is crap (common words like så(then) and på(on) are not recognized) and the eT9MyWords does not help at all (and some places the phone does not understand æøå leaving me with wierd symbols)
- Crappy syncing with gmail and google services (HTC calender can't sync with Google Calender and you are not always told when a new reply has arrived on your email)
- The msn messenger application often refuses to log me in unless I turn the phone on and off.
- I cannot change language (unofficially you can but it will leave some parts of your phone not working)
- The screen accually have a visible 2 visible grids plus dots, if you hold it in the right angle with ENOUGH LIGHT(kinda looks like your screen is scracted in a pattern) (I have spots everywhere in my appartment and on my work so this is more than a minor problem for me)
MINOR PROBLEMS:
- Camera creates images with a slight pink center-spot (try taking a picture of a white wall or paper)
- Sometimes the contacts loose their image.
- No notification light for email and sms
- No universal landscape support
- No hardkey for multitasking(switching/closing apps)
- Sometimes a small icon bug on the logscreen cutting the top of the "new messages icon"
- Doesn't seem like you can refresh the facebook contact image
- The lock screen will not take you to the new message if you slide the message icon - you will be taken to the last checked message
- There are ZERO games worth playing at the moment

When an application needs GPS it will start using the relevant COM port. The system will then enable GPS. When you stop using the port, GPS will be disabled. So it's automatic. If, for some reason, you need to turn it on without using (maybe you hate batteries and want them all to die, I don't know), this can be done programmatically, although I haven't seen an application that would do just that, without reading GPS data for some reason.

How are HD2 owners finding the battery life so far? What is your general usage (eg. calls, bluetooth, etc?)? What is the on-screen keyboard like for daily use with SMS/Email? I can't decide whether to get the HD2 or Omnia 2 and think this could be a helping factor. My previous HTC (Kaiser) had shocking battery life :-(

mate, you will be shock again when use HD2. The battery life is far behind iPhone 3GS. It needs to be recharged every day if you want to play some games, listen music and use WIFI. Also, recommended use the OEM charger (5V 1A) other than computer USB port (which is 500mA) to charge it.
Compare to HTC TYTN II hard keyboard, the on screen is similar to iPhone which will easily make your arm sore.

Just go to "Windows live" software settings and change it to not synchronize contacts.
It will then automatically remove them from the phone contacts.
Hope this can help.
Here are my list of issues.
1) The volume rocker sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the volume rocker controls the playback of the track i.e. reverse/fast forward. Think it is linked to use of the headset. Like I say, this problem is sporadic, but annoying. The solution? Restart the phone.
2) Texting - something very basic. It annoys me that the space key isn't recognised enough so you can often type this 'haveyouheardof'... again it's just annoying. Same goes with the backspace too.
3) Still on texting - auto-capitalise doesn't work. This is just irritating beyond belief!!! I am a perfectionist and I want the phone to automatically put a capital letter after I use a full stop. It's not hard is it really?
4) Still on texting.... problem with texts not being sent and sitting in the outbox forever.
5) The screen - LOVE the screen but also HATE it. It's sensitive, but in the bad way, it recognises touches when you don't want it to but sometimes doesn't when you want it to. For example, use the MSN app and have the keyboard up in mid convo and try to scroll using the slider on the right and hold your finger down on the slider, mid way between the bottom and top of the conversation (sorry it's hard to explain), and the slider just flickers up and down as if its having a seizure.
6) The clock stutters SLIGHTLY when you press the home screen. It's just annoying - polish please.
7) Email sync often fails. Solution? Reset the phone - annoying.
8) If you hold the phone too hard against your ear, the earphone hurts your ear as it's sharp.
9) Multi-tasking. It's damn awkward even if it does it well, technically. It feels like I would kill for an 'alt + tab' type button a lot of the time.
10) Annoying perfectionist thing - when you're on a phone and you put it to your ear the backlight fades, when you take it away from your ear, the backlight comes back on. Sometimes it fades ON (good) but sometimes it flickers on (bad), looks sloppy and gross when it does the latter. I want continuity.
11) Battery life
12) LED notification light doesn't blink when you receive emails unless you hack the registry.

Just go to "Windows live" software settings and change it to not synchronize contacts.
It will then automatically remove them from the phone contacts.
Hope this can help.

THanks for the help. Except ''Store Windows Live contacts in your mobile phone's contact list' is check but also greyed out so i cannot changed it
Task manager
The build-in wm task manager is anoying, so Dutty made a cab for the leo rom he made for the touch HD. It's simply the HTC task manager from the touch HD.
And it works like a charm for the HD2.
Just google "Dutty's task manager"

mate, you will be shock again when use HD2.

Many thanks for this reply, very helpful. I did wonder, when comparing the Omnia 2 to the HD2 about the battery. The former has a 1500mAh battery, a 3.7" screen and it's AMOLED so uses less power. The HTC has a 1230mAh battery and a backlit 4.3" screen...beautiful tho it is it's a tough one to live with. Until I bought the (Mugen 3000mAh) extended battery for the the TyTNII, it was always low :-(
I think I'll have a play with a relatives iPhone to see if I can live with the virtual keyboard, if not, the Sammy B7610 looks niiiiiice. This generation of WinMo devices is so close to mobile nirvana, but just falls ever so slightly short, it's annoying :-(

Hi guys, apologies if this is covered elsewhere but search is bringing up too many random similarities for it to adequately solve this for me and after reading the majority of threads in their entirety, times a ticking and I could do with more concrete data before finally committing to this beast myself
I would have thought that by now there would be a single thread listing the confirmed issues that multiple user's have with their device. Obviously the camera issue is well documented but are there other "issue's" ,that could be accurately described as a fault ,that affect many users?
I appreciate that what would appear to be an awful lot of the claimed faults in the Leo section seem to be down to owners not knowing how to do something that the hd2 is perfectly capable of and as such are usually solved quickly by the knowledgeable dudes on here and also that guy's/gal's aren't likely to start posting that they're perfectly happy with the hd2 therein skewing the general perception of its performance when you browse through the threads on here!
let the battle/flaming/whatever commence

What ROM? UK O2 is fine.
I've got a problem with the youtube links. When in opera or IE, clicking on a video doesn't load up the stock youtube client on the HD2.
Nor does the stock client have a log in so you can see your favourites.
I cant find the stopwatch or the timer app, I've been looking for like 2 days I might just be blind. Any ideas?

I have read about this issue but not had it happen to me once yet, I have sent about 40 messages since I got the phone from O2 on Friday and I have received about 30. All of them without issue.
Did you get yours from O2 or is it a sim free model from elsewhere with your O2 sim in it?
I get the "disable all Wireless connectionss" here too. Can't say a typo bothers me, but it's a little surprising.
Sim free hd2, ROM 1.43.405.1 (70124) No other problems i've noticed though, but I don't send all that many TXTs.

If you rely on WM to wake you up at morning you are a brave man.
Background intermittent hiss when talking
Well its looking good so far then..till now we seem to have:
A) camera pink blobby issue with a hotfix on the way..
B) sms' doing what they want but not what you want also with a hotfix in the wings apparently..
C) some background noise for a few of you
and it's looking good for me as a camera on a phone is a gimmick,I hardly ever send sms and if the background noise can be heard in my truck it'll have to be louder than its volume
Thanks for the comments guys and if anyone else has any others please feel free to add them on
I've managed to lose my opera's multitouch after a bit of tweaking and program installing, though that may well be my fault....
I also have the calendar bug
And I have a weird texting bug whereby sometimes when replying to messages, when I'm trying to type a message in phone keypad mode, when i press the button for a,b,c only 2 comes up and if i try and press another key, then the same. basically, it only outputs numbers.... its very annoying and very hard to solve!
My 'issues' so far....
Camera, pink, and unusable viewer in low light (almost cant see anything).
Battery life, maybe 1 day at best.
WM tick box's way too small for finger touch.
Volume rocker, doesnt work in 50% of my games/apps including you tube!
No haptic feedback in Opera.
No pinch zoom in IE.
Lag when entering text in sms conversation mode.
No sent sms confirmation sound or on screen notification (sent the same message 3 times before i realised it had actually gone!!).
If used to solve above problem delivery reports stay in inbox like messages so every other message is a DR!
Emails do not mark as read unless opened in WM viewer not the sense UI.
No easily accessible task manager.
Programs do not close on exit but minimize so stay running in RAM.
Screen does not rotate in all menu's/apps etc...
Opening internet based Apps does not prompt you as to how to connect ie:WiFi or OTA instead defaulting to OTA unless you have already turned WiFi on.
Facebook App is nigh on pointless, cannot 'like' anything or see comments left, etc..
Windows Mobile is way to prominent and should be buried deep behind the Sense UI, specially as we do not have a stylus!
Whole UI feels messy being not really a WM UI and not 100% Sense UI.
Thats a brutal unbiased honest opinion!
The phone itself, hardware, asthetics, etc... are all excellent but the OS and UI are a long way from the polished experience I expected from a flag ship phone.
Some of these can be fixed with Reg tweaks or 3rd party Apps but............ we shouldnt have to!
Karlos
- Battery drain,
- FM radio reception quality,
- Of course, camera,
- Opera : sometimes displays web pages like Google cache: only text, no images/background
Of all listed problems, the only one I have is the camera. Not even the SMS, every time I send a message, it's delivered right away.
I have one more issue for you. After I changed timezone to Russia which don't have AM/PM time division(clock range is from 00:00 to 24:00), I can't create a new appointment later than 12:00, because in the HTC calendar I don't have an option to setup time later than 12:00 This is very very annoying.
...I have been using the HD2 for a little over three months now. While I really enjoyed the phone and all its gizmos in the beginning, I am becoming more and more disappointed by its performance in everyday life:
SMS:
HTC can say what they want, there still is some kind of bug with the SMS texting. Replying to someone's message will miraculous highlight the last received message. You always have to select the texting area before you see what you are typing.
Twitter:
This is currently one of my biggest gripes. The built in twitter client is a major pain...it will repeatedly ignore my settings and download twitter messages whenever it wants and how many it wants. Sometimes I end up downloading some 200+ twitter messages at a time. During the downloading process, the entire phone will start to lag - to the point where I have to wait up to a minute before I can use the phone again. I really wished that there was a way to replace Peep with another twitter client, while maintining the SenseUI interface tab. Also, an option for "push"-twittering would be nice. The 5 minute refresh rate just doesn't cut it for me; not that I have gotten the phone to actually refresh twitter every 5 minutes. And as I think of it, the twitter alarm tone also goes off whenever it feels like it.
Online Updates:
The settings I have made for updating the Stocks, Twitter and Weather tabs all get ignored by the phone. For instance, I have set the weather tab to refresh every 3 hours... Just checked the phone - last refresh was over 23 hours ago. Same with twitter. Twitter is set to update every 5 minutes. Last update was about 2 hours ago. Not sure what's going on here!
Bluetooth Devices:
Even though I love SenseUI, getting to the Bluetooth device list is just hideous. You virtually have to click and swipe yourself through several screens, just to get to the settings. Why couldn't they just activate the Bluetooth icon on top of the screen to directly take you there.
Volume Settings:
What's with that weird "three-steps at a time" volume slider when pressing the volume sidekeys? Isn't there a more sensitive way to adjust the volume using the sidekeys? I do realize that I could fingerswipe the screen, but I really don't want to get the phone out of my pocket everytime I feel like adjusting the volume levels.
Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to trash this phone! I just think that these are some fundamental problems on a 600€ phone that HTC should have worked out before release. Would love to hear some feedback from you guys!! Appreciate any help you can give.

Well actually they are fundamental problems Microsoft should have sorted out, Windows Mobile 6.5 is an absolutely ****e OS, and I think HTC did a bang up job modifying it for the HD2. What with all the cabs flying about here it doesn't take much to get your phone working well.
Although I will say, the SMS thing would be one of the few grips I have,
To be honest I think that HTC serious believe that what you call the SMS bug is a "helpful" design feature (I'm not kidding). It is a pain in the arse, along with vidually counting every yexy in the conversation.

Errr... every single issue he raised is with Sense. Not one single issue there is related to WM.
i love this new phone and new os but some things are really annoying and i hope they will be fixed in a future software update
no custom ringtones and no seprate volume control for ringtones this really sucks cause if i turn down the game or music volume it turns down the volume for everything.
playing a game like need for speed and hitting that stupid search button will kick u out of a game ur playing.
setting wallpaers u cant set a full wallpaper u always got to crop the image first i hate this.
no turn by turn directions for maps.
the dialpad and message theme kind of sucks i hope this can be changed
i would like to be able to set a wallpaper for the main screen just not the lockscreen
headphone volume output need to be way louder
the phone tile when u miss a call or get a message would be cool if it would show u who u missed a call from and if u got a text message it would show who text u and half of the message or something like that kind of like what the me tile does when u post something new
putting contact tiles if it would show messages and misssed calls alerts on there tiles that would be great
the top menu bar should always show battery lift signal if u get a txt message etc.
improvment on loading time for games etc..
cant think of anything else i want changed right now
other then that i love this new os i been using iphone since the 2g iphone and this is just way diffrent i also use a android device
I'd like more options within text messaging. I'd like the ability to initiate a call from a text message, and the ability to add a contact from a text message.
I've been a Windows mobile user for quite a while, and made a switch to Android, now to Windows Phone 7, it's great, but I agree with everything you posted, but adding a file explorer it a must. The ability to select or hide different photos that show on the picture tile, an option to hide/show the keyboard while typing (so you can see the whole screen), and the ability to turn on/off wifi, Bluetooth from the main screen instead of digging into the settings each time. Plus a few more settings, like wifi rules, (turning off Wifi automatically after unused, if you like). It would also be nice to be able to remove that little white arrow in the upper right corner of the main screen, it takes up so much real estate on the main screen. Landscape mode on more screens would be nice too.
Oh, and the option to remove an account, I already have a Windows Live account that I don't use stuck on the phone. I don't see a way to remove it, and cant' change the email address or log in id info, only the password.
I'm sure updates will be rolling out to resolve some issues, or possibly apps.....??
surround
you can just add a second windows live acccount and disable the first one by unchecking everything effectively disabling it. I wish you could delete the main one too. However, I posted this somewhere else, the phone got corrupted and after i did a hard reset and connected to my computer, the Zune software restored all my programs (in the backgrouind without my knowledge) and all was good again. There are some bad reveiws of this phone on youtube, but some of the reviewers got it all wrong. For instance the screen resolution for movies is EXCELLENT. It takes the zune software a long time to convery and copy some movies but worth the wait. There are some bugs and some things could use improving. I would say the one thing that bugs me the most is when you zoom in on a net page...the text could be sharper. But I can live with it. All in all the phone is a pleasure and I look forward to the updates.
Thing i dont like about video watching is Netflix over 3G is good quality.. but youtube is crap over 3G. There NEEDS to be a setting for this. Its just a hub extension, but hopefully something gets fixed.
A lot of your suggestions are for the OS, not the physical phone.
It would be nice if the OS could utilize the awesome speaker on the phone a bit more. For example, speaker phone is pretty weak. I also dislike how if the speaker is not slid out, everything is muffled. I guess they expected the sound to reflect better, but it just doesn't.
That's really all I can think of besides the lack of a microSD slot that's visible anyway. I'd take my phone apart to see if there is one, but I don't have a torx bit small enough.
Besides the OS limitations, I think the phone is awesome.

I second this. One of the things I miss most from my Tilt2 and all other winmo phones have been the blinking notification light.
Need more from microsoft
I want to be able to block unwanted call, more options in the settings menu and better functions for the camera.
definitely need to be able to explore the phone. more wifi options would be nice as well. also the speaker seems to be a bit lacking. ( sure thumps when i hook it up over the cd deck in my truck though!) I had the htc tp2 prior to this and i became completely addicted to the wifi router utility, so for me personally that would be the most important thing. if anyone knows about anything like this under development let me know. i'm always willing to donate to a good cause.
One of my teens got his old LG upgraded to a Surround for Christmas yesterday. I'd been thinking when my Tilt 2's upgrade time comes this summer I'd do the same -- but not after spending a frustrating afternoon helping him with it!
We played with it in the store several weeks ago. I think the slideout speaker is a gimmick but he's 16 and thinks it's great. We both agree the WinMo 7 tile thing is a bit silly but is FAST, and he loves the HTC Hub UI. The hardware is very good (though I'm not sure I agree with no micro-SD slot).
But using Zune software to sync is a PAIN!!! My Vista laptop took 1/2 hour to download the device drivers, then insisted on a reboot before downloading the Zune software (another 20 minutes). Then the Zune install insisted on checking for an upgrade (yet another 20 minutes) before going thru a rather painful 10 minute install.
Once installed, it was very unhappy when I changed the monitored folders, and took several attempts before it would sync with the folders I'd copied off the kiddos old micro-SD card. Of course what I was most amazed about was the lack of drag-n-drop support in Windows! What kind of lame-brained, Steve Jobs-style of engineer would nix that? (I did find the reg hack to renable that just a few minutes ago, but haven't verified it yet.)
Lots and lots of lockdowns in WinMo 7 that I don't like, as have been mentioned by previous posters. This whole thing reminds me why I disklike the iPhone's OS so much!
Maybe my next phone is gonna have to be an Andriod phone instead...
I kind of agree with all of you. Microsoft might have come into this having windows phone shut a little too tight.
However, that only means that there is more room for improvement.
Multitasking would be nice, especially ones that resonate when you dont have to see them, like streaming music. or at least faster app switching.
File Explorer is kind of important and Bluetooth file sharing too.
Tethering is not that important, but on my fuze I used to use it whenever I went on trips and the hotel tries to give me wifi for $30 a day...but eh... the screen is so much bigger, and it goes a lot faster too that I dont see any need for it, (besides plugins like java, or flash)
Oh and a definite must is the camera settings STAYING THE WAY I LEFT THEM. Whenever you exit the camera, it goes back to default. and on my phone at least, video recording goes to vga, so i would have to set it to 720p if i wanted it.
would love the call blocking and please a flash player!!!!!!!
Improvements
After Multi-tasking and copy and paste are added in the soon to be released update, I would like to see a few more additions. Flash player, Pandora, LED indicator light options for notifications, ringtone options beyond what they have allowed so far, the ability to send videos as MMS messages and a battery % remaining would make me ecstatic.
heh.... guys you will never see multitask like it was on 6.5 ..
as multitask they say - future CLOUD infrastructure update .. which will allow run signed apps on cloud infrastructure .. that means = you will be allowed to create ICQ client .. part of client will run on MS servers . that part will collect ALL YOUR ICQ EVENTS .. and then send to phone via PUSH notify .. on phone side nothing will be rly changed ..coz multitask goal does not collaborate with main WP7 idea - ISOLATED ENVIROMENT FOR APPS
Keyboard directional arrows
Is anyone missing keyboard up, down , left and right arrows? I sure miss them. Lifting your fingers off the keyboard to position the cursor on a particular spot in the sentence is really time consuming and not very precise.
Correct, I will really appreciate arrows in the keyboard
Sent from my Samsung Focus using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
My only feature request for all WP7 devices is gapless music playback. I really, really hate the two seconds silence between tracks, especially on electronic music or The Dark Side of The Moon (man, I love that album.)
Wi-Fi Router
The most important thing that is missing on Windows Phone 7, no doubt, is the wi-fi router function. Today I have to walk with two phones, because of the missing of wi-fi router.
Another important things are:
- File Manager
- Send photos/files via bluetooth
- Outlook Notes synchronization
- Office docs synchronized on the Windows Live could be open on a computer and vice-versa
Main software that I wish to be developed for WP7:
- Log Me in
- SQL Server Client
- Olive Tree Bible
- Google Maps (Oh Google Maps, you don't know how I miss you and your amazing Latitude)
- Auto CAD WS
- Skype
- MSN Messenger
I agree with everything else you published.
MMS Settings
Be able to customize the MMS Settings, some carriers have differnt tier's of internet with different APN's and it is a Necessity to have that option!!!!
