Hey everyone,
My XDA doesn't ring anymore when someone rings me.
If I go into phone options, I can change the ring tone, and they work in there using the play button. They are very low though, even when I put the phone's volume on max.
Then I go back to the home screen, try to ring my phone and it doesn't ring. The vibrate function still works and it still makes a noise when I get a text. Just nothing when it rings.
Any ideas? Cheers.
May be You already did it, but if your phone switched to "vibrate only"
mode?

Nope, but thanks anyway mate.
Anyone? It's doing my nut in now!
OK, obvious things to try / questions etc:
Have you tried to soft reset?
Do you have a "profile changer" installed (pocket zen phone for example)
Is the ringtone selected on (tick in the box) (dumb question i know, but...)
Are you using a default tone? or one you have added youself?
If its a custom one, edit on PC and increase the amplitude (make it louder) - try again - any better?
Have you one anything / installed anything etc which caused this problem? if so what
Is the phone & master volume at max? if not try with them both up all the way

Really good trouleshooting procedure!

Thanks a lot for this mate.
1. - Yes
2. - No
3. - Yes
4. - Tried both and tried making my custom one louder
5. - No
6. - Right, this is where we made some progress. I usually have my master volume set on the level above nothing (i.e. very low) and my phone setting on the lowest one. I assumed that this was the in-call volume. But I put it up a notch and the ringing was back. Yeah! So I assume it's the whole phone functions' volume and not just the in-call volume. I can see the logic but I'm not completely sold.
Anyway, you are a legend and I thank you very much.

IIRC to adjust the in-call volume you must be in a call and then use the slider on the side of the wizard. i'm not 100% sure but this is as good as my brain can manage today

hi, bsterngillet,
im also new to this here. just got my o2 min s last week. i just started tweaking it. i experienced the same situation as yours, and seemed to have figured out the problem.
with the original rom, AND without any program installed, the volume sliders behaviors are:
Master volume slider adjust Ringer, Notifications, Tap
Phone volume silder adjust Phone
however, upon installing "certain" programs (in my case, a language translation/inmput software "Monster Chinese 5.1"), the volume sliders behaviors altered as:
Master volume slider adjust Notifications, Tap
Phone volume silder adjust Ringer (but ALSO as a subset of Master Volume --- so it's like a old school mixer, master volume has an effect on the whole scheme of things)
The phone volume can then be altered during a call.
So, my settings now is:
Master volume slider = Halfway
Phone volume slider (i.e. ringer) = First click down from Max
Phone Voice volume= adjust as needed
hope this helps .... and hope this is correct.
I had a problem with this before...
I had been using my headphones prior to this though and when I put them back in and out it worked fine
Thanks to your thread i have been able to sort out exactly the same problem regarding vibrating but no volume. It did my nut in too, funny how there is usually a simple answer just around the corner.
Cheers

Phonealarm 1.54 is superb, but it's casuing me a very annoying problem, and I don't know why:
I like to have my phone set to "Vibrate" at all time. By that, I mean clicking the little speaker at the top of all WM5 devices and where you get the 2 sliders for volume of device and phone, at the bottom it has "On", "Vibrate" and "Off".
However since I installed Phonealarm my phone always reverts back to "On" - but I can't seem to work out why, there's no pattern to it - sometimes it just sits there on Vibrate, then next time I use the phone it's back to On. I can't seem to work out if things like going into the Phonealarm setup menu causes it, or clicking an alert in Phonealarm, or whatever - it just seems that after a while it'll revert to "On" without me asking it to, and it's only been happening since I installed Phonealarm.
Any ideas?
phoneAlarm 1.54
Its hard to say with this programme. The developer has built so much into this excellent app for so may devices, there always seems to be one problem or another. I would post a question in the support forum (www.pocketmax.net). Bruce (the developer) is pretty responsive. He may ask you to send a log ad he will try and fix in next version. I am waiting for 1.55, due out on the next few days
Regards
Chris
I believe you need to put the option to vibrate in all profiles. For exampe in the settings screen, if you go to a particular profile then click on sms notification you need to tick the vibrate option. To get it working on the ring tone as well set the ring option in profiles to "Vibrate and Ring". Remember to do this for all alerts for all profiles!

Hi,
Could anybody recommend any apps to do the following:
1) Turn off mobile services (Eg, disconnect from the network) between certain hours? I would effectively like the phone in airplane mode during night time.
2) Vibrate every XX minutes when I notification arrives - Eg, if I miss the (faint) vibrate I'd like it to do as my previous phone did; Vibrate, for example, every 5 minutes stopping only when the notification has been acknowledged.
If any of these are possible please point me in the direction of the relevant apps.
If not and anybody feels a coding change... Feel free
Cheers.
SPD phone suite will do both.
Cannot seem to find that app in the Market. In the UK if that matters.
Any ideas?
Any alternative software?
Cheers.

Don't know of anything to turn airplane mode on. But what I've done is use Locale to make my phone completely silent at night, then turn the sounds back on at a specific time in the morning.
dgAlert will let you customize vibrate and repeating vibrate for text messages.
Oh sorry didnt know the dream was Android !
SPB is here http://beta.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/phonesuite/
Thanks for the replies. Will check out dgAlert - If that can repeated vibrate for calls too that would be immense... Will definitely check it tonight.
About Locale; I tried that however setting it to (For example) make the phone silent between 2300 - 0700. It makes the phone silent at 2300 but does not re-enable the ringer at 0700 (Or at least the "silent" icon still remains - One of the two!). Is this the correct behaviour? Or should it be automatically turning the ringer back at at 0700? I'd imagine I can work around by having "Sleep" at 2300-0700 and "Don't Sleep" at 0700-2300 but I'm curious as to why it doesn't work currently. Should simply "Sleep" between 2300-0700 work?
Cheers.
PS - This is non-rooted if that makes a difference.
With regards to locale, did you make sure you placed a default setting for it to revert back to? I had similar problems before I told local what the default settings outside of the conditions I imposed where.... (wifi would NEVER turn back on... etc)

I set up another Locale scenario to re-enable sound 1 minute after the "sleep" one ended. I don't know if there's an easier way (default settings were mentioned, that might work), but it works for now.
Thanks for the replies guys - You got it spot on; It hadn't any defaults! Set the defaults and now Locale works like a charm
Now I have locale turn off wifi bluetooth etc at "Sleep" and turn them back on afterwards... Sorted!
My only outstanding request now is the repeated vibrate - To clarify this further I would actually like an app that will send a repeated vibrate every XX mins for any notification in the notification bar (Eg, SMS, email, missed call). dgAlert may be able to manage it for SMS but I'm not sure about for other things. It also appears to have problems with other apps from a quick google.
Any software that will allow repeated vibration alerts (Until acknowledged - Eg, removed from notifications) for all notifications? That would be simply brilliant!
Cheers.
Just wanted to tip you off about Bedtime.
When you run this program, it only lets phonecalls through. Everything else is kept silent. You will also get a nice full screen watch
Thats great - Thanks; I'll be sure to check it out!
Now have many solutions for the night time problem... Only now to find a real good solution for repeated notifications - Any ideas welcome! Thanks...

Can someone post the APK for Locale? I don't have access to the market.
Cheers!
Really after something to do repeated vibrate on notifications... Anything available? I've checked the market but I'm not sure if something exists which does it but not exlusively (Hence hard to tell from program name).
Any suggestions?
Cheers.
there is DgAlert, SMS POPUP (the new version has repeat notification) a few others i can not think of right now.
As far as I can tell, though, they only repeat notifications for SMS?
Any chance they now repeat for all notifications? If not, any others?
Cheers.
I kind of hate that this is my first post - A little pedestrian - I've been a longtime lurker and thanks to a lot of this forum, I made the jump yesterday to a rooted MyTouch 3G with Cyanogen's latest. I'm pleased.
Coming from a BlackBerry, I've been spoiled by the easy-switch between "profiles", specifically the ability to set the device to only ring for calls and not for SMS or other notifications.
I'm finding a one-touch solution difficult to come by - And I've already tried "Profiles", "Auto Ring", "Toggle Settings" and "Ring Toggle" - Each of them is either a multi-step process to get to "just ring for calls" or won't turn off SMS vibration, a common issue?
Anyway, great community here and I hope to be a small part. If anyone knows a simple, reliable way to set my phone to just ring (for nighttime important calls) and silent everything else (except alarms) - Please let me know!
Thanks!

Um have you tried going into settings, sound/display -> ringer volume? You can check a box and mute your notification sounds. Personally, I find this really easy already but if you must have that one-touch then.. I don't know

It isn't a deal-breaker or anything, but even with a shortcut to "Sound & display", it's a few extra swipes and pokes
I was hoping there was a shortcut directly to that screen or just a simple on-screen button that could turn everything but alarms and calls off.
Thanks

i think that if it were developed it would need to also toggle the "vibrate on" selection within each notification setting for the various apps that utilize notifications. like gmail app, email app, exchange app, messaging apps, sms/mms etc. it is currently an android weakness compared to winblow and dingleberry but the other strengths of the os outweigh this and a few other features' immaturity. try the market...
well as of right now I can offer you one thing that requires 3 clicks lol
use a shortcut widget! But that is almost as long as doing it normally... lol
although there may be a way using better cut (trying to figure that out)
yeahhh I don't know what else you can do ;p
I give up looking for it. I tried using better cut / any cut and tried the "make your own shortcut"
Apparently there is an intent to adjust the volume but.. I don't know what to put in the "data" field. Searched around and not many people know how to use this feature either haha

...point about "vibrate on" is that you'd need a shortcut (as you say) for each app if, like me, you activate "vibrate on" as part of the notification profile for each of the app examples i listed above. in other words, simply silencing notifications volume from settings/ringer_volume/use_incoming_call_volume_for_notifications has no effect on the "vibrate on/off" selection profile for the individual apps.
It seems like the whole "SMS vibrations are different" deal is what really makes this a difficult implementation - Every application I've tried has difficulty specifically with silencing SMS vibrations that are turned on - Otherwise, it's totally possible - Very, very strange that this is still an issue...

I thought it would be a good idea to share your Tasker profiles.
I recently discovered this app and after 3 years of using Android it feels like Android has a whole bunch of extra features.
My profiles are boring really but I'll share anyway.
My first profile puts my phone on silent between 2am and 10am.
My second profile turns off Bluetooth after 3 minutes of being unpaired.
My third and final profile waits until my screen goes off, waits 5 seconds, turns the screen on displays the time on an app called night screen lite (only between 9pm and 11am)
What are your Tasker profiles?

I have one profile used for automatically transfering calls to my car.
Bluetooth will switch on when incoming call and outgoing call. Connect to car Bluetooth. Transfer audio to car. And Bluetooth will switch off after the call.
With this profile, I do not have to worry about switch on Bluetooth and connecting it manually eveytime I enter the car. Everything is done automatically !
Its indeed a great software.

I have one for work that rejects all calls and sends a text, also responds to texts. Both say at work will call later, never sends the text to the same person twice in a row. Also prompts me to turn it off after normal work times. Our don't use location since I'm not always in the same place.
Also, while at work it sends my wife a random text once or twice a day. I can't have my phone at my desk and she used to complain that I never call or text during the day.
Also, face down full silent and the Bluetooth others have mentioned... Oh and low power disables everything but calls and sms.

The 'Night Stand' profile requires an app called 'Night Clock' or a similar app. After a set time, when the screen has been off for 5 minutes and the phone is on charge, it will show the time in big text and stay on for as long as you exit. Very useful for quickly checking the time during the night.

If you could export the XML for your second profile to turn bluetooth off after 3 minutes of being unpaired, I'd be really really grateful, or just provide the steps in your reply.
Thanks
1). Pocket Lock - Detects when phone is upside down in my pocket and activates WidgetLocker.
2). Read Caller Aloud - Incoming caller name said aloud so I can decide whether I want to answer without looking at my phone.
3). Night Mode - From 00:00 to 06:00 Puts phone into silent mode, plus checks whether Wifi, Data, GPS, or Blutooth are on, and turns them off if they are.
4). Battery Low - When battery gets to 15%, and it's not connected to a charger, Says "Battery low, connect charger" and turns off Wifi, BT, Data, GPS.
5). Music Player - When headset is plugged in, loads music app.
6). Wake on Lan - Scan an NFC tag by my front door to send Wake on Lan packets to my pc to resume windows.
7). Home - Gets general location from cell tower, activates Wifi, disables Data & GPS. Exit Task disables Wifi, and enables Data.
8). Work - Gets general location from cell tower, disables Wifi, Data, GPS, BT, and Auto Replies to sms that im working and will reply when i can.
I'm pretty new to tasker, but have been pretty bored lately and have been working on an addition to my Work profile.
This profile will, use variables to save up to 5 peoples numbers and how many times each has txted me, and txt each of them back, using their names from my contact list in the body of each txt.
So lets say BOB txts me once, his number will be added as a variable, and it will begin counting the txts from him. On the first txt he is send a txt saying, something like. "Sorry BOB, im at work, will reply when i can".
Then DAVE txts, he will be assigned to Sender2, and have a txt sent to him like above, with the second Counter and Number (%CNTR2 and %SNDR2).
BOB, realizing it's an auto-reply, decides to be funny and spam txt me, thinking he will get a reply every time. However, tasker counts his incoming txts, (%CNTR1) and when it reaches a value of 10, send just one more txt saying something like (Thats 10 txts you've sent, seems Im still unavailable).
Profile: Auto Reply
Variables:
%SNDR1 <---- BOBs cell number
%SNDR2 <---- DAVEs cell number
%SNDR3
%SNDR4
%SNDR5
%CNTR1 <---- BOBs txt counter
%CNTR2
%CNTR3
%CNTR4
%CNTR5
%TXTVAR <---- Counter determining whether a txt received is from someone new or a number already saved.
Enter Task:
Code:
1). GoTo label Sender1 if %SMSRF ~ %SNDR1
2). GoTo label Sender2 if %SMSRF ~ %SNDR2
3). " " etc.
4).......
5).....
6). If (%SNDR1 ~ 0) then SetVariable %SNDR1 to %SMSRF
7). If (%SNDR2 ~ 0) and (%TXTVAR = 1) then SetVariable %SNDR2 to %SMSRF
8). If (%SNDR3 ~ 0) and (%TXTVAR = 2) then SetVariable %SNDR3 to %SMSRF
9)........etc.
10).
11). If (%SMSRF ~ %SNDR1) <-------- Label Sender1
Variable Add (%CNTR1 + 1)
If (%CNTR1 = 1)
Send SMS (Tells this person eg. BOB I'm at work)
Variable Add (%TXTVAR + 1)
Else If (%CNTR1 = 10)
Send SMS to %SNDR1 (Thats 10 txts you've sent me)
Endif x2
12). If (%SMSRF ~ %SNDR2) <-------- Label Sender2
Variable Add (%CNTR2 + 1)
If (%CNTR2 = 1)
Send SMS (Tells this person eg. DAVE I'm at work)
Variable Add (%TXTVAR + 1)
Else If (%CNTR2 = 10)
Send SMS to %SNDR2 (Thats 10 txts you've sent me)
Endif x2
13). If (%SMSRF ~ %SNDR3) <-------- Label Sender3
Variable Add (%CNTR3 + 1)
If (%CNTR3 = 1)
Send SMS (Tells this person eg. EMILY I'm at work)
Variable Add (%TXTVAR + 1)
Else If (%CNTR3 = 10)
Send SMS to %SNDR3 (Thats 10 txts you've sent me)
Endif x2
14). ......Etc.
15). ......
I'm still working on it, deciding whether to have the variables reset as they are all filled, 1 at a time, or to make them reset every hour or so. Also whether to make another profile purely for resetting those variables, or add them to this task. Bearing in mind that on my phone it gets rather annoying to manage/edit the task since its currently at 78 lines long.
As I said I was bored.
If anyone is interested in this I can post a backup xml of this somewhere.
Here are mine:
1. Kill a couple of apps on boot
2. Power Saver – mainly To turn off my WiFi profile
3. Call Brightness – while the phone's ringing, the brightness is maxed.
4. Keyboard Out – disables the display timeout for the time I've got the hardware keyboard out
5. Lost – checks for incoming SMS with one of two predefined phrases. On the first one it starts playing alarm sound (if I forgot where I placed it). On the second one it sends back the GPS coordinates and battery level and puts the same information in my google calendar, so I can see it from anywhere (source tasker wiki. Can't give the link, since I'm new here, sorry. PM me if you can't find it)
6. Sound Control – I hate the thousands chat sounds when I'm texting with someone, but I need them when the phone is not in my hand. So here's what this profile does:
Any time I turn the screen on, the sound volume will be set to 0, and phone will be set to Vibrate.
When I turn the screen off, the sound settings will be restored to their previous values, unless it's currently on MUTE. Then it'll keep it on Vibrate (!) until it's manually raised (in which case it will remember the new volume level). That's cause I never use my phone on "mute" (no sound and no vibration). If I want no sound, I keep the vibration on.
Sound Control Project:
Code:
[b]profile Display On[/b]
Contexts:
event: Display On
state: Not Call Incoming
apps: Not Alarms (or whatever alarm app you use)
Tasks:
Silent Mode: On (if %Mute ~ 1)
Silent Mode: Vibrate (if %Mute !~ 1)
[b]profile Display Off[/b]
event: Display Off
Tasks:
If %SILENT ~ On
Variable Set %Mute to 1
Silent Mode —> Vibrate
Else
Variable Set %Mute to 0
Variable Set %Volnprev to %VOLN (IF %VOLN>0)
Notification Volume —> to level %Volnprev (IF %VOLN~0)
7. WiFi Control – turns on and off WiFi when I'm at home/work.. wherever. The original source is from Tasker Wiki but it wasn't working properly so I did some changes)
Key points:
- It watches the Cell towers only when I'm not connected to wifi.
- It uses Wifi Near to check if I'm near the router ONLY when I'm within the Cell tower range and NOT connected to wifi.
- If I disconnect from wifi it waits a few seconds and checks if I'm connected before continuing.
WiFi Control Project:
Code:
[b]A: Cell Network Home[/b]
Contexts:
Cell Near {Cell towers at home}
Not Airplane Mode
Task:
Profile Status "Wifi Near Home" set to On
End Task:
Profile Status "Wifi Near Home" set to Off
[b]B: Wifi Near Home[/b]
Context:
Wifi Near {my router SSID and MAC}
Task:
Wifi On
End Task:
Wifi Off (IF WIFIC !~ 1)
... repeat A and B for each location, for ex. work
[b]C: Wifi Connected[/b]
Context:
Wifi Connected *,*,* (to any)
Task:
Variable Set %WIFIC to 1
Wait 15s
Stop (IF %WIFIC !~ 1)
Profile Status "Wifi Near Home" set Off
Profile Status "Cell Network Home" set Off
... set also profiles for other locations to Off
End Task:
Variable Set %WIFIC to 0
Wait 30s
Stop (IF %WIFIC ~ 1)
WiFi Off
Wait 3s
Profile Status "Cell Network Home" set On
... set also the cell profiles for other locations to On
I have one that sets usb debugging off at boot and displays permanent notification with usb debug status + theres an action attached to the notification that toggles debugging on/off.
This is to toggle debugging on when I need it and to make sure it's off when I'm not using it. I wouldn't want anyone to easily bypass the lockscreen should my phone fall in the wrong hands.

Sure, here it is.
You need secure settings with "helper" installed for it to work.
This profile uses %USB_DEBUGGING var to store current state of the setting as there is no way to read the actual state from within tasker (as far as I know).
The usb debugging will be turned off at boot, you can change this by changing the "variable set" action in "Start" task to 1.

To be honest I never tried it before but after some reading I did it this way:
First put the xml file somewhere on your phone, go into your file manager, click on the xml file, a dialog should appear with apps available to open the file - there choose tasker. Do this for all files you want to import.
Now open tasker, open profiles tab and long click on it -> import, choose the imported profile name, "autostart" in this case. Then go to tasks and long click on it -> import, there should be the toggle usb task, exit tasker and restart it. The imported profile and two tasks should all be there. Now when you go to the "Start" task and click the triangle "play" icon (or reboot the phone) the notification should appear
Oh and I didn't notice that tasker did not export one of the tasks required for this to work, don't know why, so I'm attaching it here.
Sorry about the mess.
