Does It Compare To garmin? But i,ll try it

you wont get a decent program without paying for it.
you can install TomTom7 for free (search here for cabs) but that wont have any maps. you can download a map of a local area (not very big) to try it, this is done from TomTom once it is installed.

Just get CoPilot Live 8. Its $19.99 right now via DL with maps. deal

Thank you guys i,ll do that

i just saw one on freewarepocketpc.net called navicomputer that looked really cool. you might have to get your own maps....i didnt get that far
i have sprint, so i have sprintnav which is great.
also, there is waze which is kind of cool but the program needs to be used for a time to learn your area (you will have to try it to understand)

www.waze.com

nice geocaching software, and free!

i bought a gps. now what?

Ok, I bought a GPS on ebay, the BT-359. Now what? I need extra software on the phone to use turn by turn navigation, right? What software do you recommend? For simple "where am I," I can use the newest Google Maps or LiveSearch I assume.
Thanks
Now buy a GPS Software (IGo, MioMap...), install it, and enjoy in turn by turn navigation.
Check out www.buygpsnow.com. They have some good deals.
I recently got a bluetooth unit myself; I have downloaded a trial version of software called GPS Tuner. It automagically downloads google maps based on your location, pretty cool.
I plan to go hiking this weekend and will try it out on some waypoint I'm going to load.
I use TomTom For Windows Mobile. Works really Well. You can buy it on their website or you can 'acquire it' else where fairly easily.
Set up the Com Ports and Away you go!. Just make sure you read the manual for Your GPS to set it up correctly.
Tomtom is tha bomb for Nav (at least in Australia it is) WM5 used to freeze up if you had too many Points of interest active however on WM6 you dont get it at all.

Why don't you just use Google Maps mobile directly? It too has GPS functinality.
You can also use free MGmaps
http://www.mgmaps.com/
You can download Google tiles to your device and use them locally without data acess.
TomTom hands down.
I've used other brands of software and they all feel like a poorly designed child's toy compared to TomTom.

Overhead maps are virtually impossible to drive with. On top of that you still HAVE to have a data connection to route.

Using map without internet ?

Hi, I am a newbie and i want to ask that is there any U.S.A map software for htc 8525. i know there's goggle map or something else like that. But the point is i need a map software that i can use without internet. California or San Jose Map would be great. My phone is htc 8525 wm6 rom RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3_1_.57.502.1_6275_1.48.00.00_108-ATT-MR3_Ship.
thank you very much
Look into iGO8 or Tomtom7. Both do what you would like at the expense of a one time cost of buying it. You can also use Google Downloader to download maps and then load them to Google Maps.
Can you explain more about "using google downloader to download maps and then load them to goofle maps". thank you

Yes it is|! Also Footprints uses hardcoded Copilot as navigation, don't know how to change that to TomTom, iGo ect.
In the \windows map there's copilot.exe also, you can't remove that...
Excellent! i was going to buy it anyway.. know where the maps get downloaded to? do we get a choice? i need the australian maps..
maps get installed to cf card. If u activate trial make sure u are connected to WiFi. uk map was around 200M.
i dotn use it as its a trial, i use igo8, is their a way to make copilot full and also this trial is it limited or limited time

Where can I get the latest igo8 software.
Where can I also download maps for different countries?
My HTC is on its way. Does copilot load automatically on initial setup, or is that something they let you select separately?
Thanks.

There are maps for nearly the hole world.
I was woundering if I was using an internet does GPS cost extra onto my contract?
iGO8 is best GPS software for me. I tried all software for GPS and after all I've come to the conclusion that the best IGO8 in combination with Gurjon or DiMka skin and my color scheme.
Pretty tweaked and flexible software. iGO use internal maps and don`t use any internet or similar connection.

I have seen many videos of iGO Navigation on youtube and must say that application is nowehere near GARMIN XT app... Garmin simply turns your phone into GARMIN NAVIGATION itself. Very responsive, obtains satelite signals quickly, maps for the whole world, etc - you name it...
Note: Garmin XT is no longer on sale by it's manufacturer but some retailers still have some left. If you google it you will be able to find it.
I will try to do Garmin XT demo on my HD2 and post it for others to see how better it really is

does it need internet on the phone? or just runs with out it
Most of navigation software is offline - without internet connection.
TomTom, igo8, garmin, navigon, ndrive, ... all offline navigation
The US version of IGO is OnCourse Navigator. The only problem I had with Oncourse is that it required you to use their SD card which last time I checked was only 8gb. Garmin and Tom Tom were only 2 gb cards. I use CoPilot as it allows you to use your own SD card. The only thing you need to make sure of is that you deActivate every time you flash your phone. I've used all the programs listed and find them all to be very nice. Also CoPilot is also the cheapest at about $30.

Forgot to mention that BUT did state that you completely get NAVI UNIT out of that APP...
To answer your question - no, it does not use the internet at all. You can use it for better signal acquiring and for Garmin / Google Searching options - but that's up to you whether you want it or not...
I'm using Gamin Mobile XT and loving it. It's the same as my real Gamin that I decided too sell my Gamin 350. No text to speech like my 350, but who cares.

Best software GPS can be used without cell service

What is the best software to use that doesnt require cell service. Including map updates.
I use copilot live 8...
$30.00...and it does not need a data signal as the maps are stored on your SD card.
For updates, im sure you can hook up to a wifi signal...or, you can download the Copilot Desktop application and sync maps/voices/updates to your phone that way.
I do have Copilot Live 8 also, so far it's great and the graphics are nicely with turn by turn navigation.
iGO 8 and TomTom
iGO8 have the option of installing individual city map! save alot of space TT have to put the whole NA map on it .. yikes!
I use GARMIN LOVE IT
I also use Garmin, love the lack of subscription needed to do internet searches for nearby places, unlike most of the others. So, you never have to worry about the locations being out of date.
Does Garmin running well with HD2 ? i had Garmin XT on my Satio (yes i still love that phone ) and it do the recalculating alot, with tomtom,Sygic they are fine no recalculation. Therefore, i dont want to put Garmin on my HD2
are any of these gps's free?

MS' Bing app (which is free) now has turn-by-turn GPS nav, but it requires cell data service.

I use Navicomputer on my Tytn II, but it seems to also work on the HTC HD2 too (according to other people posting). Navicomputer uses the Open Street Maps and can do this online or you can download them and use it when there is no connection (I do this when I travel outside the US).

You can't do a search for an address when in Offline Mode. Can you?
I tried NaviComputer, and looks like its only good for looking at where you are in the map and not for it to tell you where you should go. And ofcourse for tracking your hiking trail (which it is meant for).
