Hello there... sorry for my bad english
I was doing some test with my X10 camera and... I surprised too much checking that the geotag work fine only in MediaScape. If you try to see picture location on Picasa, you didn't get any GPS information due to the tag used by SE aren't standar
Tip! Keep away from import pictures in MediaGo... it delete de GPS tags, copy it manually from SDCard.
By the way, can someone contact SE team (using correct english) to get any answer?

i went to astro file manager and it has the option of check or get location of maps. so i did that and it was in CHINA. i was like WTF? but then i checked out the real LONG and LAT and it seems to be correct. but somehow i guess the information gets screwed up?

Yeah, latitude and longitude is stored fine, altitude too... but it's seem to be that SE save north, south, west and east in a non standar way... so Google Maps don't know where the pictures was taken.
My english is very bad, sorry... but here an example. The information about location is stored in the exif on our pictures. Latitude it's ok, longitude it's ok and altitude too. But we need to know if we are in the upside or downside of the world (north and south) same for left and right. Normally this values in the EXIF data are saved like "N" "S" "E" and "W" but I think that SE are storing that like "+" and "-" (it is correct but not standar).
I get what u mean. Seems like there are a billion kinks that need to be worked out with the x10. This is kinda sad because while
functions are there we can not use them effectively.

Try the following…
1. Turn on GPS
2. Go to Advance Setting on Camera software, and turn on Geotag.
3. Back to the Camera home, and wait until GPS locate your position.
4. Take a picture.
5. Go to MediaScape and search for your geotagged picture. Open it.
6. Press the left hardware button, then go to “Info”. At this point you will see at botton lat and long. Well, take in mind that there is something wrong. I don’t know where you are, but I am at west long… but it show east!
7. Now try to export the picture to your PC. Keep away from MediaGo, due to it delete all geotag info. Do it manually. Import it to Picasa and you will see that Picasa cannot geolocate it. By the way, you can try with panoramio and the whole piece of software tha you can download. It don’t work.
I was trying to figure out what happend. I think that it’s a bug. Why? Take a look at the attached images. I was using PhotoME software (it’s free). Check the image 1.png (taken with Samsung Omnia) and you will see that it has Tag-ID 0001 and 0003 with the values North and West. Not the same with the picture taken with my X10 as you can see at image 2.png

I have recently bought an X10, GEOTAG only works on the phone, you cannot export the GEOTAG data off your phone, either by copping the files directly (if you do the GEOTAG data become corrupt due to Tag as mentiond in eariler posts) and if you use the defafult Picasa that comes with the phone the GEOTAG data is not included within the data transfer.
Very frustrating that sutch a simple thing is not working, but I bough this phone as its the best on the market for digital phone cameras and comes with an Android OS so this was a feature I wanted to use a lot.
If anyone has a solution please let me know

Sorry, I don't understand you. Can you explain yourself with other words? Thanks!
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre.
We have been able to test within our office and cannot replicate this issue. When using the Geo tagging feature the tags were within a 2 metre accuracy.
Are you able to supply ourselves with a couple of test images from your handset that are tagged with geo information?
Can you also please provide your handsets firmware version, IMEI and SI number? This SI and IMEI can be found on the white sticker on the inside of the battery compartment.
Kind Regards,
Paul *****

Hello XDA ^^.
When i'm using the build-in HTC Peep application for a new tweet and i want to add my GPS location, it gives me "Unable to find location information. Retry?".
Now i am 100% sure that my GPS is working, since GPS pictures can be made and Gmaps works fine.
Only HTC Peep refuses to get any location.
A second twitter-related question:
Is there any (better) Twitter application i can use, but WITH sense-integration (making it available as a tab like HTC Peep)
Thanks in advance !
Usually of I clink add location it does come up 'unable to find location' just clink on retry and it usually finds me straight away.
In answer to other tweet apps I no theres one called mo-tweets but you can't put that on your slider only on today screen but never use it, just have Twitter saved as fav on internet so I just use that.
Hope that gives a bit of help
I retried my *ss of, really ..
It keeps saying unable to find location information, while my GPS is clearly up and running ..
Any option/registry tweak i need to set/enable?

motweets is a fantastic program and at least ten times better with much better functionality that peep. i highly recommend dropping the four bucks on panoramics site and getting it.
as far as getting something on the bottom slider tab, i remember seeing a thread on here that addressed this but i cant remember which one it is. youll need to search some but im pretty sure it exists.

Hello,
I found out that the only way to geotag photos is to enable "Use wireless networks" option. But with that option, the coordinates location is not very close to reality...
I tried only the option "Use GPS satellites", but no matter what I do, it cannot insert any location on the photos...
Yes, I have GPS "turn on" on the powerconfig, I have the Geo-tag photos option ON, I have GPS fix on other apps in about 4seg, I waited more than 30seg inside the camera app before taking a photo but nothing works... Resuming, I don't have any problem with GPS itself, except in the camera
For example on my hold Touch HD, when in the GPS camera mode, it displayed a blinking icon when trying a GPS fix and a stable icon after the fix.
Here I don't even get any indication that it's trying to get a GPS fix or whatever...
I feel that this is a downgrade... How can HTC let this happen??
Am I doing something wrong??
Does anyone have Geotagging with only the "Use GPS satellites" option ON ???
Hi. I too can confirm this issue.
Perhaps we should contact HTC about this?
I'm going to read the manual during my lunch break too on the off chance it might have some useful info ... I doubt it though ....
The manual only makes reference to the option on the camera app...
It was nice if people start to report this bug to HTC...
Please guys help HTC to make a better phone!!!
On the other day I sent a support ticket to HTC and they were fast replying...
But, as normally, they even didn't understand quite what was I talking about...
Here's the reply:
Which GPS navgation software are you using? Bear in mind that some GPS softwares require internet to get for you maps, maybet his is your case.. If you have any other inquiries, don’t hesitate to contact us again. Please note that you can contact us via support line. For further details, please go to http://www.htc.com/europe/CA_Hotline.aspx , Thank you so much for using HTC products.

lolol, gps navigation software?!? lol, nice try...
Replied again with a second explanation, hope this time they will understand, but don't have a lot of faith...
Is there any way I can support and confirm an issue of an existing ticket?
As in, can I add my voice somehow to you issue onesolo?
You can, http://contactus.europe.htc.com/wFrmMailLogin.aspx
But you have to enter my email...
But I think it's better to you to open a new ticket
The one that I have, I'm speaking with a person (a women for the matter) from HTC Iberia, and clearly she doesn't understand what I'm talking about...
I got the second reply and she came again with the story of GPS softwares, even TomTom she spoke... ROFTL!!!!
For the navigations softwares, we recommend using TOMTOM, Copilot or Google maps. But bear in mind that Google maps are considered as GPRS hungry cause the maps are being viewed online. On the other hand, TOMTOM and Copilote download the maps to the phone that's why if you are using Google maps, wirelss network option should be ticked.. That's why we were asking which navigation software are you using.

I asked on the Whirlpool forum (Australian technology forums) and very little response too. In fact very few people even bothered to read the issue.
I guess geo tagging photos is not so important to people
I will raise a ticket with HTC Australia and see how that goes.
Now I got a message from the women from HTC Iberia saying it's a limitation from the system!!! ahaha
I only wish a I had the possibility to test this on another android HTC.
Does anyone knows if on other android HTC phones this happens??
Strange. Now that you mentioned it I too have that problem. However I did manage to get accurate GPS location on photos. Don't remember exactly how but I think that after taking the photo I tried to locate the place on the map and updated the coordinates from there.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I have managed to make one of my photos accurately geo tag. I was in a car using Google Navigation at the time, so maybe that is why it was able to capture the correct coordinates.
This weekend I will be seeing two of my friends who also have Android phones (Nexus One and SE Xperia X10 mini) and I also have an HTC Magic. I will attempt to test on all of them provided the weather here in Sydney clears up >.<
Ok, I think I also got it...
I first opened GMaps, waited for the gps fix and then took a picture. I finally got Geotag only using the GPS satellites!!!
This is so stupid... and a backwards step...as I said before, I was able to do this only inside the photo app with my old Touch HD (in windows mobile) without opening previous any gps app...
I received my DHD 2 days ago.
As mentioned earlier in this thread I'm missing the icon shown i camera-mode witch indicates GPS-fix.
I've also tried confirming a GPS-fix with an 3rd party app (GPS Status) before shooting.
Just 1/4 second after exiting camera-mode, I can see the GPS-icon in the Android status bar. This indicates that the GPS is indeed initialized, but the camera-software doesn't fetch any information.
I'm posting a e-mail to HTC Support about this. I've already sent them a query regarding the "/INIT" -issue.
Hi,
I´m new.
Have the same problem.
What is the status? HTC has said what?
No reply from HTC yet.
Maybe it helps if several customers report in the issue.
I also created a ticket. Let's see what comes for a response.
Update: I've gotten GPS-tag on several images now. But still the tagging can fail even though I've tested the GPS-reception just seconds before.
I'm still missing the informative GPS-icon in camera-view...
Update:
From HTC Support:
It is true that the GPS-indicator is not visual and for that reason it is hard to know if the GPS signal is locked. I will log this in our systems, and hopefully there will be a future update that will fix this issue. To be sure it’s turned on, go in on camera - push menu - and see if GEO-tag photos are switched on.

I'll guess we have to wait for an software-fix.
At least it's a better reply that the ones that I'm getting...
Hope yours brings a fix to the issue...
After my last reply, explaining a way around (that still it's not a fix), I got this issue from HTC Europe:
Thank you for contacting us again. Thank you for your feedback, your input is much appreciated. I trust that this resolves your query. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.

I think it's great that several people report in the issue(s). It should increase the chances for a quick fix
Do bear in mind that if you're indoors, GPS Satellites may not be detected. I have noticed that when trying to use a car navigation program inside my house (Testing purposes only....I hope) there are no or only 1 satellites detected. However, upon going in the car and using my phone while my dad is driving, GPS boosts to several satellites and pictures are all tagged with GPS location and street level info too!
Does anyone know if the Geo-Tagging toggle (on/off switch) has been brought back in EC05? Its gone in EB13 and Geo-Tagging is turned on 24/7 as long as the GPS is on. It needs to be brought back ASAP! Check out this NBCActionNews video

This is a serious Issue!
As far as I know all the earlier versions had the option to turn it off as can be seen here.

I know the Camera lag and video low light issues are said to be fixed in EC05 but I haven't heard anything about the Geo-Tagging Toggle being brought back.
its been a while, was that toggle in the camera settings??? Its not on EC05, midNIGHT... doubt Rob would remove it... so am I looking in the right spot?
gonna check out that app... dont like that crap...
EDIT: pretty cool app... but I wish it was automatic, or at least batch... but its a great temp solution, thanks for the heads up!
I looked at Geo Eraser and 1 thing i noticed it only has 7 reviews. That does not mean its a bad app or anything. I think if i used it though i would always be double checking that it actually worked and Hasn't crashed or anything. I would much prefer a way to turn off Geo-Tagging and not have to worry about it. I hopeing that maybe a devoleper on here will read this and possibly come up with a quick patch to get the toggle back. Also I'm still waiting for some reports if this has been fixed in EC05 or not.

Why not just kick off the GPS while taking pics? It's not a major step since it's in the notification drop-down.

I run multiple apps that rely on the GPS being on, when you turn off the GPS some of them crash and result in data loss. RPITA
With DI18 the old 2.1 you had the option to turn it off, and as far as I know most if not all smart phones have it as an option, with default being off not on.

Makes sense. I don't have any apps like that.
I guess it's important for the toggle to exist, even though personally I never understood the fear regarding the data. The phone automatically re-compresses pics for MMS, as do many websites you might upload to. Otherwise, you might do touch-ups on a computer and convert to another format. Does this GPS data even survive these modifications?
Not to negate the issue. I just can't help feeling immediately skeptical over any issue that causes a lot of people to freak the frak out.
Panic, in general, is a good indication of unfounded fear.
It doesn't need gps if you have wireless location on it will geo tag. That's how you turn geo tagging off. Both gps and wireless location must be off that's the only way.

The data will survive anything that retains EXIF data - which is just about everything that handles JPG files. I use Adobe Lightroom and Irfanview on a daily basis; both retain EXIF info (though Lightroom will allow you to edit much of it yourself). I assume Photoshop is the same way.
Converting the file to another format, such as GIF, will strip the EXIF info, since most other formats don't support EXIF data. The GPS coordinates are stored in the EXIF fields.
I just checked some of the pictures uploaded to my Facebook account using the official Facebook for android client - EXIF data was stripped somewhere along the way, probably by the Facebook servers. Uploading to flickr using the 2 flickr apps kept the EXIF info, same when I upload to Dropbox..
If you're taking photos around the house and sharing them online, then I can understand not wanting your home address getting out - particularly if you're female. Someone taking some photos of, say, a new gun, or some jewelry, can also invite theft, if the GPS info were included.
Personally, I'd prefer not to include my GPS coordinates in every photo I take... not because I'm worried about an attack or theft (I'm not a small guy, nor do I own anything particularly valuable), but because I just don't want total strangers knowing where I live.
edit: If you use Windows 7, right click a JPG, select properties, then click the Details tab - you should see "Remove Properties and Personal Information". This will let you strip some/all EXIF info.
This has been bothering me for a while. My goto action was to just use the Win7 stripper as mentioned above, but for some reason it simply doesn't work on pictures taken with my Epic (it works on every other image I've tested). I haven't gone as far as to try other EXIF utilities.
And for the person who says you shouldn't be worried about... well, I have a 480hp car listed on eBay with geo-tagged pictures showing the coordinates within a mile of where the car is stored.
I have already set geotagging to enabled in the Settings, but when I take a picture and view it in the Gallery there is no location information.
Bump...
Stupid question but is your GPS on? Did you confirm you have GPS lock before taking picture? You can check your location on map to see if it's fixed already. Also you need to tell it you want to see the info in the menu, I think it's called tag buddy or something, otherwise picture shows clean without any text, even if tagged.

GPS is not on, but there's the other method of acquiring location information, right?
And here's the thing. Pictures taken using the stock camera have location information displayed by Tag Buddy, but not pictures taken with "A Better Camera" app.
