Alright, I've been having this re-occuring problem for a while now. It does NOT matter what ROM I use, it happens on them all so far (DC, Fresh, Aloysius, Regaw, etc). Let me go over exactly what has been going on.
When I wipe everything and flash a new ROM, the phone does everything as it should. It sleeps like it is supposed to and a fully charged battery will last a very long time.
For some reason there comes a point (a day or two after flashing) where I notice the battery dropping faster, and I notice that my awake time is the same as my up time. I've used "Battery Use" and "Spare Parts" in order to try and locate any possible problem.. nothing is showing. The only thing I know is that when the problem starts: Spare Parts -> Other Usage, shows Running @ 100% and when I click on "Running" It says the phone went (however long) without sleep.
Last night I wiped everything and flashed Aloysius 2.0.2.. I decided to monitor it more closely and chose to NOT install ANY apps, just to see if the problem happens. So the phone was sleeping properly all night. I went to sleep and chose NOT to charge it, because it seemed like the problems started when I charged it or plugged it into PC. So I left it unplugged all night. I woke up and saw that it slept the entire night as it should.
I was messing with the phone, couple of emails, couple of text messages, a few phone calls. The phone was at about 14 hours of uptime and 1 hour awake at this point. When I finished with just some calls and text, I left the phone alone while I went outside to do some things. I came back and checked the uptime.. 18 hours and awake time 5.. Phone refused to sleep again.
I shut the phone down, took the battery out for 60 seconds, put battery back in, put cover on, booted phone back up ("power cycling"). Phone has been on for 5 hours now with an awake time of 5 hours. I can't find anything unusual in battery use nor spare parts again. Now the "Other usage" in "spare parts" shows "Running" as 100% with no sleep time, but I can't figure out what is causing it to be constantly "running". I've even gone as far as to shut off all background data, syncing, locations, and even evdo all together. I have tried so many thing and can't figure out why ONLY a WIPE+flash fixes this temporarily?
Sorry for the extremely long post, but does anyone have any ideas or experience similar problems?
have you tried giving your phone some sleeping pills?

You aren't running a2sd are you? You're sure that your apps aren't just getting reinstalled after a restore because they are actually stored on sd:ext?
I had this problem. The 1.5 release was supposed to fix the problem. It was the dialer running at 100%. Didn't fix it for me. Talked to HTC and they said the problem still exists sometimes. But I had to exchange my phone and the new one has never done that. I think they had some bad phones. If you can't figure it out get your phone replaced.
Sorry I should have mentioned, I forgot. I used to run Apps2SD. I thought that may have been the culprit, so I partitioned my SD card again.
With the latest wipe, I partitioned my SD card with 0 ext and 0 swap, all fat. So no apps2SD now. With the partition was a complete format, so there was NO data on the SD card to restore from. My restore data is on my PC only and I haven't used it.
Edit: Also, I have a minimum of 4 out of 6 bars at all times. 0% TWS

Did rebooting fix the problem or was it constantly screwed?

Reboot sometimes fixed it but them it was only temporary. If I remember right it started the always awake again sometime between 12-24 hours after the reboot.

I've been having the same issue with the new 2.1 ROMS as well, for some reason, only a fresh wipe will "temporarliy" solve the issue and after a day or so, 100% awake time, with no apps installed nor A2SD running.
I had the problem. Ended up being Slacker. I have to remember to use the "Exit" button of Slacker or else it never goes to sleep.
What worked for me
Was I would open up Advanced Task Killer, then go to the services tab and hit end all several times. I would keep doing this until the awake time began to drop. Problem was whenever I restarted the phone it would return to the way it was, but after doing this at least half a dozen times it drops the awake time on its own after a restart, so now the awake time hovers at about 6-8% which I think is pretty dern good from 100%.
so
1. Go to ATK (or dw if you dont have)
2. Go To services tab
3.hit "end all"
4. Repeat about 5 times
5. Press the power button to make phone sleep
6. Wake phone back up check awake time in setting
7. Repeat if necessary
also if you have problems dl from the marketplace afterwards, just sign into google talk, and that will set things right.
also your phone will restart all your services every time you end them, so dont be alarmed if you lose your signal and internets for a second or two
i dont know why this worked but it did for me at least
Make sure "GSD.apk" is missing from /system/app. That tends to suck the battery up rather quickly.

Well, After some testing, it appears that my 100% awake BS always starts when I use the dialer and make a call. I got it to go into psycho 100% mode again, even after reboot. I've tried ending all services in the past but I wasn't persistent enough apparently, lol.
At first I tried ending services once, didn't help. Then I went crazy and constantly killed the services over and over for a solid 30-40 second as they opened up again. Eventually I killed ATK and let it sleep, it actually sleeps again.
So... some weird problem with my dialer/phone app (no matter the rom) but at least I found a solution! Thanks amallama.
I think you are simply having a problem with badly programmed apps. It sounds especially suspect that this is happening to you regardless of what rom you are on. Have you installed anything new recently? in the past week I've run into a few apps that have prevented my phone from sleeping (awake time ~89% after 12 hours of uptime).
I deleted fandango and gigbox and awake time and battery life went right back to normal.
All,
Please try this before complaining about battery.
Go to:
Settings then to privacy then do a Factory Data Reset.
You will lose all your user installed apps.
What ive noticed on day 1 Battery showed full charge. After a factory data reset the battery meter dropped to almost empty
full charge overnight and i went all day and night after using pandora, making 3 hours worth of calls, using the web, check checking work and gmail email, sending texts and a few other thing.
With my evo i would have had to charge it after about 6 hours. PLease try the above and post your results.
Nice find dude. I just tried it out on my phone and while it may be a bit preliminary it seems to of fixed my issues. Before I had only been able to charge my phone to 100% TWICE. All the other times it would hit 95-97% and tell me its fully charged and would not go any further, i would turn off my phone and plug it back in and it would charge a little more, but as soon as i unplugged my phone and booted back up it would be at 95% and fall very quickly. This morning it had only been unplugged for 1 hour and 20 minutes after being plugged in all night and it went down to 65% I plugged it back in and let it charge, it was at 95% and still charging when i saw your post and decided WTH and gave it a try.
While it was still plugged in i did a factory reset and it erased everything and when it booted back up it said my phone was at 100% but the charging light was still red. I let it keep charging, even turned it off and it was still charging, it charged for probably another half hour before the light turned blue, i unplugged it and turned it on and it was still at 100% I used my phone sending texts and reinstalling all my apps and setting them up and its been probably half an hour and its at 98% as i type this So things are looking up I never even saw 98% before haha, the two times it DID charge to 100% it literally jumped from 96% straight to 100%, then fell to 95% once unplugged.
Just out of curiosity what do you guys use to check your battery percentages? (i'm new to android having come from the iphone 3g)
I've been using Battery Indicator, I really like it.
h**p://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-darshancomputing-batteryindicator-xxti.aspx
Also, from what I've been reading so far, most of the issues are app related and a few defective batteries.
Tried this and didn't seem to work, the display is still hogging 70%+
2 days ago, I was applying a Phantom Skin to my phone and ended up getting water between the glass screen and lcd. I let it set overnight to let the water evaporate. Well it didn't and I became impatient and decided to get rid of it myself.
I completely disassembled the phone, cleaned the screen and the lcd, and put everything back together exactly as I had taken it apart. I booted the phone up and everything worked normal.
Fast forward to today. I fully charged my phone using the bump charging method, booted into recovery and wiped the battery stats. After 2 hours of use, it had dropped to 60%. This was with background data disabled, no gps, no apps running, nothing.
So I thought maybe it was the new kernel I installed (KingxKlick Bfs #5). So I booted into recovery (while the phone was still plugged in), and installed the KingxKlick Bfs #4 zip. Everything installed so I rebooted the phone. As soon as it turned on, I am shown the green led signaling the battery is fully charged and my batt statt app on the home screen says fully charged. I thought it had to be a mistake. I open my other battery monitor and it says my current battery level is 100% with 6207 mv.
For the past 30 minutes I have had the phone going as hard as it can. GPS, internet, wifi, bluetooth, youtube, pandora, almost every app, etc. For those past 30 minutes, my battery indicator has not dropped a single percentage.
I am wondering what is going on. Something surely has to be messed up but I cannot figure out what it may be.
Like I said, the phone works like it is brand new (and it practically is for me having only owned it for 2 months).
I just need help figuring this out. This is DEFINITELY not right and could possibly cause harm to my phone.
Not to mention my battery monitor and system panel says the battery is 64.4% and it has never been that cool.
Right now it feels like it is about 90-95 degrees.

Don't have answer but 6207mv on the battery is impossible. seems like the A/D circuit for reading battery voltage is not working. Or the OS is not reading it right.

I got an S4 i9505 replacement yesterday from my insurance company. It effectively seems to be new phone and battery, anyway when I turned it on it had 70% battery left, I logged into my various things and it sat about downloading and restoring and installing a 5.0.1 update, the process took about 30 mins and at the end of the 30 mins I had 9% battery left, I connected to the charger and it was full again in 30mins which I found odd.
Anyway let it sit on the charger all night, took it off this morning and with 2 mins of screen on time I am already at 94%, I can't see how this thing will last the day.
I am not a newbie, I have things like sync and GPS etc turned off and screen brightness lowered however in saying that even at the lowest setting it seems very bright.
Any ideas?

You cannot jump to conclusions based on this. Your device was setting up, your battery needs to settle etc. It's normal to discharge faster.
Try a few charges / discharges and see if it helps.
But most likely if it's charging way too fast and discharging fast as well, the problem is most likely the battery itself, it might be a old one.
Right ok, been using this for a few days now, with basically everything turned off I am getting 1 hr screen on time, something not right but can't figure out what
Hi
Its the second time this happened.
I went to pick up the phone and he was very warm with the light of hello on. When i turn on the screen had a windows message saying that the phone was hot. someone had something like this or its only mine?
I thing its better return the phone ?
Exchange one
Same here.
the phone is junk!
i have the 950 and its doing the same thing. Its terrible. Hello keeps coming on randomly- event when it just charging and no one is moving infront of it. what crap! in my pocket the phone gets so hot that i can feel it through my clothes. battery drain is ridiclous! anyways it sucks!
am
Got my 950XL unlocked from CPW on evening of Tuesday 8th. Out of the box it was running 10.0.10586.0
I set up the phone including turning on Glance and Hello and left it overnight to fully charge
Took if off charge 6am on Friday. Battery was getting low by the time I got home at 6pm (around 20%)
Tried wireless charging with my Tylt - the Tylt led came on and the battery charging indicator came on on the phone so I thought it was OK but a couple of hours later the charge had only gone up by about 5% and the phone was extremely hot.
Switched to charging with the supplied cable and it charged up ok but stayed quite hot.
On Saturday noticed that the battery went from around 80% to 20% in less than 4 hours and the phone was on standby for most of that time
Tried to turn off Hello to see if that would make a difference but it kept turning itself back on.
Also phone update said that 10.0.10586.29 was available but it wouldn't download.....said it was downloading but stayed at 0%.
So on Saturday evening I did a hard reset and left Glance and Hello off.
Updated to 10586.29 and so far no problems with battery or overheating, on Sunday the battery went from 100% at 7am to around 70% at 9pm, very light use during the day
I
The overheating is primarily caused by an update failing to come down. its also draining the battery. Once the update downloaded and installled, I've had no further heat or battery issues.
To get it to download I disconnected from wifi and rebooted.
Reconnected to wifi and had the unit plugged into the mains.
the update had a failed message on it so hit it to try again.
Took about 30 minutes and everything was done.
I turn off glance and nothing happen. Turn on today, now i will see if happen again. Glance in 30seconds. But i think i will exchange for a new one. I now this is a beta phone but this overheating is bad.
