Hey guys, I'm just new here. I want to know how many roms can you flash to elfin before it finally gets messed. I already flashed about 5 roms, including hardspl, onyx and ahen but currently using miky's rom. Also, is there a performance decrease if you already flashed 10+ roms?

When you flash a new ROM, the old ROM is whiped out (Only USPL/IPL and Radio remain untouched) and is overwritten with the new ROM, like you do when you upgrade to a new OS in your PC, doing a fresh install. So there is no reason why you should have a performance decrease. There are guys here on xda, who have flashed several times a week a new ROM, i myself have flashed more than 20 ROM's up to now, sometimes the performance is better sometimes worst, but that depends on the ROM you flash, and how you restore your data, or what additional applications you install.
Thanks for the reply
I guess its safe to flash roms whenever I want it.

hello, please please anybody can help me to make my tp2 perform much more faster? everytime i do the soft reset, the memory only 40%, but after few minutes its auto raise up to 77-83%. My phone starts run really really slow, that's making me feel bad and weird. is That because of the new room i installed ? or i did something wrong ? , Please anybody have a software or something to make my phone run faster ? .
It's touch pro 2 from tmobile, running energy room.
if there is no way , is there anyway can i install a stock room from tmobile? i really want the stock room back ..... it's seem runing a little bit faster than the new room i installed .......
Thank You in advance.
Hi billdang21,
I have flashed quite a few ROMs including several of the Energy ROMs by NRG. I have noticed different performance on my phone with each ROM I installed. There are several variations of the Energy ROMs and they all seem to have a very polished interface with nice icons as well as some of the latest versions of TouchFLO/Manila. However, NRG does state that some of his ROMs containing the latest Manila are unstable and to "expect many bugs". I suggest that you try flashing some of his other ROMs to see if they work better for you. Additionally, there are other chefs and ROMs out there and each one is unique and will have different features, applications and performance. You may need to flash several different ROMs before you find one that works for you. I really like the look and feel of the Energy ROM but I am currently using At0mAng's Fusion ROM because it was the most stable for me and gave a good balance between OEM look/feel and performs well. I think you should try flashing several different ROMs before going back to the stock ROM, but if you still want to re-install the T-Mobile ROM, you can find it here:

I upgrade the ROM fairly frequently on my Blackstone, usually with the latest Dutty release. This was fine up til yesterday. I installed Dutty's Holy Grail R0 ROM, and after installation, after about an hour, the device completely locked up. I pressed the reset button, and the device Hard-resetted, removing everything and going back through the setup screens. This happened a couple of times, so last night I put on a different ROM, Dutty's WM6.5 R15. The device locked up after about an hour, and wouldn't get past the "smart mobility" screen when restarted. This morning I loaded the stock (Orange UK) ROM back onto the device. I haven't had the chance to check if this problem will re-occur, but when I turn on the phone the colours are flipped (putting it to sleep and turning it on again fix this problem, but on a soft-reset it happens again). Seems I can't get anything right at the moment, can anyone suggest what might be up? Tech specs below:
UK Touch HD on Orange
USPL - used exactly as per the Dummies Guide.
Using Win7 x64 (yes, I've got the drivers installed correctly for USPL)
ROMs mentioned in post:
Dutty's Holy Grail R0
Dutty's W6.5 R15
I suppose you didn't install the stock ROM prior to installing the Dutty ROM. You MUST flash a stock ROM before you flash a home cooked ROM, since they work a bit differently when it comes to erasing data. USPL doesn't seem to be the best way either. I had similar problems like you when I used USPL.
So try the following:
Flash your SPL to OliNex
Flash your device with a stock ROM
Use HSPL to flash the Dutty ROM of choice

not sure where you got your info, but, you DO NOT have to flash a stock ROM before flashing a cooked ROM. if you're having issues, they could be solved by flashing a STOCK rom. i'm sure i've flashed my HD over 60+ times and never flashed a stock ROM before doing so. i have not had any issues at all. in the original poster's case, it could be that the STOCK ROM he flashed requires an older SPL.

Could it be the SPL? Does USPL work with every ROM? The confusing thing is having flashed a stock ROM (the Orange UK ROM), while the device seems fine (apart from having to use 6.1!) it does suffer from the bizarre colour problem while starting up. If I were to flash the SPL to HardSPL, would I be able to undo this? I don't really want to get the phone to a state where I can't return it to the stock ROM/SPL if I need to return it.

maybe you should try hspl rather than uspl, its a lot easer and more convient, and its eaaasy to go bk to your original spl if you need to

Just sharing the experience from myself and several users at HTCpedia where flashing a stock ROM first is the general recommendation. You might have made it just fine with your HD without a "stock flash", but you may have different set-up of your phone (SPL, ROMs) than others. That's why I say play it safe and install the (latest) stock ROM and HSPL-OliNex. Seems to work for more or less everyone.
However, I agree that there is no definitive explanation to why you should flash the stock ROM, but it seems as if the flashing procedure of a stock ROM resets the memory completely, where a cooked ROM flash does not. Note that this well may be an issue with the wrapper and not the ROM, but that's another story.

The best thing to do is use mtty to completely format your device and totaly remove the current os and any defragmented parts of older roms left in the memory blocks before flashing a new rom

Think someone in HTCPedia was playing if safe by suggesting users flash stock rom before flashing cooked rom. Like cortez.i said above you DO NOT need to flash a stock ROM before flashing a cooked ROM. Some poeple occasionally experience issues with cooked roms and a solution can be to flash a stock rom. But like cortez.i I've flashed well over 200+ times and never flashed a stock ROM before doing so and I've never had an issue. It may be inexperienced users are doing something different which causes these issues or haven't followed the flashing process properly.
I have had my HD2 for a month now. Been running the stock 1.48 ROM with all the tweaks and fixes from XDA. Everything works great. The newer 1.66 ROM has just been released in my country (I'm in South Africa, things are a bit behind here), and i was thinking of either flashing the stock or a custom ROM.
I've read on these forums from a fair number of people who claim that cooked ROMS are inherently unstable and suffer from random freezes.
Is there any truth to this. I was running Sakajati's Hyperdragon ROMS on my old Kasier, and they were 100% stable.
Or is the instability a result of multiple ROM flashes without using the MTTY process?
Thanks for your help.
I'd say run the stock 1.66 ROM and see how you get on, it might be fine with a few tweaks. After that, look into custom ROMs if you feel you need one
Hi Eddy.

I'll give the stock 1.66 a go.

it really depends on your needs and deires... the only thing you can do is look through the various ROMs and then choose one that suits you or that you like... if its not what you want then change it...
I have been looking at a lot of ROMS, have not tried any yet.
I think i will probably go with Laurentius Ultimate power. I like the fact that his ROM includes a Radio, and he also does a lot of beta testing before releasing a ROM.
I've just flashed stock 1.66, will try that for a while. Then go the cooked route.
Duttys HG series are very good, using it at the moment (WinMo 6.5-style as I hate the new new buttons) - link is in my sig for those interested
from my personal experience i can tell you the best custom roms are faster, more stable and also have extra features that make them more fun compared to stock. but for this to happen you need to be careful with your flashing method.there is an excellent thread in the 1st page of the ROM development forum which i recommend you study thoroughly before attempting your first custom flash. also, remember to always flash a stock ROM in between 2 customs (or use mtty) and always hard reset the phone after the 1st boot. roms are also radio sensitive so you might also have to flash different radios to obtain the best combination. perhaps it sounds a little complicated but it's not really and definetely worth to try.
cheers mate and have fun!

If u r looking for stable rom, try 6.5 rom, not 6.5.x.
6.5.x roms is more finger friendly but contain more bugs than 6.5
Try Miri's rom or Xanny's rom. I used both and satisfied with both
Hi Antaed.
Thanks for reply. I've read all the HSPL and flashing posts. Not too worried about the process.
I agree with what you say, on my tytnII, custom ROM was much faster.
Good to hear you're not have stability problems with the custom ROMS for HD2

glad to help mate. i'm not a flash addict (just yet ) so i tried only roms from the notorious chefs - dutty, laurentius, xannytech, energy, etc. i wasn't disappointed by any of them, all are very good but each is different in its own way. my favorite is artemis (from sternas) because i find it closest to my needs - leo only packages, close to stock, essential addons and of course great, great performance. i recommend you try a few yourself so you can decide which is best for you.

welcome. you can have both - new rom and android. i would do that!
The HD2 is an awesome phone, you honestly won't find much better stuff out there.
Don't run the stock winmo rom, it's crap. Flash a custom rom and install android, which imo is much better. Soon we will have a nand version of android on our phones making it just as quick in android as native android phones.
Thank you for the replies guys.
Now off to find tutorials lol
Any recommendations?
lots of reading!!!!
Start with updating your info so we know where you are located and what carrier you have.
There are 3 versions of the hd2.
Euro version
Aussie version
T-mobile usa version
I would read here for a tutorial on flashing custom ROMs for the t-mobile hd2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
For all others:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
To flash a custom ROM you need to hspl unlock your phone.
go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6891358&postcount=1893
This will unlock all versions of the hd2.
For Android, the best 2 radios are usually 2.10 and 2.12 found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
These radios will work on all phones and are usually good radios for all ROMs. You need a .50 radio to flash most of the custom ROMs not to mention to run Android so might as well install one of these.
Next go here and pick out a ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
Most ROMs are compatible with all phones. Make sure if you have a tmous phone, not to flash any radio that has .51 in it. To run android you need .50 radios anyways.
I would suggest these ROMs as good ROMs to run android from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618787
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=657807
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721438
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
and then finally, the Android builds that run from your SD card are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735
I have personally only used this Android ROM as I have found Android to be too much like IOS and only really find the web browser to be better than WinMo:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735532
I really think that you should start with a custom ROM, get to know it, get to know about flashing before jumping into Android, but hey, it's your phone. How many other phones can dual boot?
Alternatively, you can flash the latest Stock ROM from HTCs website.
The stock ROM isn't necessarily crap, its usually down to opinion.
I use an O2 stock ROM, and have no performance issues.

I agree on the fact that the Stock Hd2 ROM isn't crap at all: if anything its the perfect one for me (so far)
I've tried the energy rom, the mirri rom, basic wm rom and all of them didn't do it for me looks wise.
All I really want is the basic 9 apps (iPhone style that I am used to) as my homescreen so I really don't need a ROM outside of wanting to find one with even better battery life. The Hd2's battery life has been great so far for me but is there a rom out there that is even better?
nrfitchett4,thanks thats really helpful
Hi!
Reason I'm asking is I'm running the mdeejay_froyo_sense_v2.1_ppp build with radio 2_10_50_08_2 and stock norwegian 1.66 ROM - and everything seems to run just fine (had it for several days now)
So, then I wonder why it's recommended to use a custom rom? Do the android build have any to do with what wm rom you use? Or could it be this build runs so smooth for me because i'm using a class 4 card?

I think that the Android builds use WM differently.
My phone was a stock phone, and i tried to boot the Darkstone Sense android. This did not go very well. WM locked up, and all i could do in WM was some basic stuff. All 3'rd part apps did not work. I could not install anyting. So i changed ROM and Radio and everything now works well. So, i got hold of another stock HD2, tried the same thing, and the same happened once again.

It's just recommended because the custom ROM' are more customized to run Android without problems, but you can run android with any rom even stock as long as you have the proper Radio
The custom WM roms meant for android boot very quickly, are small files, and have custom boot loaders built in. All of this is at the expense of windows mobile functionality.
I believe that WM rom has little impact on the actual performance of android and only aids in how quickly you go from device off to booted android. All you really NEED is the right radio.
Oky, thnx...well, I went on and installed a custom rom anyway (think it was about time anyhow ), and now running the Desire HD build - running great, so guess my system/radio is what it should be now
i have been running android on my hd2 for almost 3 months and i have yet to put a custom rom on my phone all i did was put a hard spl and change radio that was it android runs fine never had any real problems like everyone else is having and if i did i changed the build
I would recommend a Custom ROM thats Android Friendly like that any issues that WM might cause to Android are gone...
BUT,
You can still Run android on top of a Stock Build...
I had android once with a Stock ROM from T-Mobile and it worked just as good as a custom one...Just Depends on your luck of the Draw...
The latest Official ROM from T Mobile caused sound issues on my Android Build so i kicked it

How is the battery life for you with the stock rom and radio?
I saw some other posts saying the android is speedy an stable with the latest stock rom and radio, but the battery life actually sucks.
