Skype Only (No Data/Cell plan) on Titan - Mogul, XV6800 General

Hi all..
I have a HTC Kaiser as my personal phone... I am able to get a good deal on a like new Titan for $50 (US Cellular Branded)... I am buying it for my 14y/o son so he can have a phone that is also a touch screen MP3 player, along with other great functions that work on the Titan (GPS, etc).. Anyways... We are not goign to be activating the phone on US Cellular.. but I will buy him a year of service on Skype... I can buy an entire year of service with a private phone # for onyl $65..... I know the phone will not work everywhere.. and will only work where Wifi is available.. I live in Milwaukee which has free public WiFi just about everywhere.. so that should work well for me... My question is.. Will the WiFi still work if Iturn off the phones "phone" radio? What sort of battery life should I expect usign the phone in this manner? Lastly... Can someone reccomend a rom for me to flash that would suite my son well? Again, no carrier needed, just skype, MP3's, video... Probalyl some games (I can supply thegames).. Thanks in advance for your help!

Maybe last 8 hours with wifi turned on. Yes wifi will work with the radio off. But the phone to me is pretty useless. He will rarely ever receive calls unless he is not moving. You will also have to change the phone so that the wifi stays on while in standby mode. Because normally it turns off.

Thanks... Maybe there is a reg edit for this? Maybe both have the phone radio off by default, but wifi on?

you can turn the phone off and let the wifi be on. put the phone in "Flight Mode" then turn on the wifi mode. this way, the phone will be off and the wifi will stay on. on another note, even if the phone is on and its not activatred, you wont be able to make calls or received it. so it dosent really matters if its turned on or off. its just a matters of Battery Life. it will stay alot longer if its turned off.

radio off (cell phone) with wifi on? [mytouch]

if i wanted to go canada, and turn off my reception, but keep my wifi on for google voice texts and im's is there a way to do this?
i know that the myfaves app sends random message back to t-mobile and that will charge me money,
so i guess im asking is there an airplane mode with wifi enabled?
Was newly posted yesterday on the market. And I think the dev announced it here as well. I cant check now, but I think you should find it if you search for 'airplane'.

wifi calling costs many though?
i read on that app it just costs as much as cellulair data.
so why in earth will people use wifi calling? they can just call without wifi. its called a PLAN
I get invalid sim as well I am on vodafone and not |T-Mobile..
Maybe you could change it to work on Vodafone?
i have tmobile, maybe thats why? might have to do with the APN or something
yay this is good but the thing I see is that if you are calling it may be going to the t-mobile servers ofc if thats the case only t-mobile sims may be able to get unless we edit the apk or spoof our sim but then also im guessing the wifi calling costs so not sure how this would work xD nice though
totally non sense. how can someone call using wifi or whatever internet source you may have to any cellular or telephone number untill you don't have some service provider etc... if this wifi calling is working over the internet, what application is it using?
seems totally fake or irrelavent
This apps works because i put the phone in airplain mode and use wifi only.
If you guys having problem then maybe it your phone. But, my phone is working, be glad that you have wifi calling.
This an oct 22,2008 phone not even the iphone 3g has this feature.

quite right, you think we can get a workaround?
I dont know im going to buy a new phone because i miss adobe flash content so much. I know this is out of topic but i miss my original droid before it got messed up.
G1 is nice when it was a backup phone in 2010. My main phone in 2008/2009 most of the time, until i sold my cliq. But, now i just want a phone with higher specs.
I try playing gameloft games HD/3D games that isnt working because of processor we have.
This developer now a days is coding their apps to make it work with 3.5 inches and beyond, with higher frame,Power vr ship specs.
I love my g1, but im going to buy either g2 or hd 7.
I think i speak for everyone having an phone for to long loses it power in long run.
And, wifi calling on this app only work with T-mobile sim card and wifi of course.
There is a wifi app.
it was ripped off the G2 and ported to the vibrant, so it is possible.
however its not that good.
it was taken out of most roms on the vibrant because of its buggyness/uslessness.
it drains battery pretty bad even when not running.
it uses minutes even when calling through wifi (the only purpose of the app is to get clear signal in places where there is none for tmobile customers and not to save on minutes)
Its just kinda buggy overall.
hopefully they'll release a cleaner app in the future, but for now its pointless if you get decent signal at home.
Honestly, this apps work fine to me. Im just disappointed that the developer now a days isnt supporting older device by coding the apps to higher specs phone.
Wanted to get an android phone with wifi calling capability for a friend who is currently in Iraq. My budget will not allow me to a buy a g2/mt4g, and a g1 seems like the cheapest option so this is where I began looking. So if I added an extra line on my family plan, grabbed a g1, rooted and installed this app would my friend be able to make calls as long as he has a wifi connection? Can anyone confirm this works without any access to the tmobile network?

I'm not sure about on the g1, but on other phones it works, but it still uses t-mobile minutes.
so you can be away from the t-mobile network, but you still need to have a t-mobile plan and minutes.
its basicaly for those who have horrible signal at home, but do have a wifi connection.

how to disable cell radio?

Hey everyone, I'm heading to barbados this weekend and was hoping be able to use my phone for pics, music, wifi etc. Anyone know of a way to disable the cell radio to avoid the roaming fees and charges for any calls/texts that would come through? Airplane mode would work, but if I wanted to jump on wifi Id be SOL. Any suggestions?
Deactivate the phone
Cant you turn off roaming in the settings?

Hadn't thought of that for some reason, that would be my safest bet too, no easy way to goof up and end up with a bunch of texts and data charges for the phone hopping on a signal somewhere (not even sure it would work in the first place but thats another issue). Guess its time to lay off the herb...I should have been able to figure that one out lol (as i crack a dutch).

As said here, Airplane mode should be what you're looking for. It _does_ turn off wifi when you turn it on, but you can just turn Wifi right back on. That should leave your phone as basically an Android version of an iPod Touch.
I'm not sure about the specific country you're headed to, but in a large portion of the world your phone wouldn't work anyways (assuming it's the Verizon Fascinate, and not the Telus Fascinate), since most areas adopted GSM over CDMA. Although, if it is a GSM based phone, you could always pick up a local-sim card (say, from a pre-paid phone?) and be able to just use that, to keep your voice (and maybe also data) connection in case you really need it.

How can I use a smart phone on AT&T just on wifi

So I just picked up a couple of WM phones HTC743 and an AT&T Tilt 2.
I've been using one of the early windows smartphones for a number of years just for the the contact manager because it uses activesynch nicely with Outlook. Too damn small for any network access though.
I'm not terribly interested in a big data plan for a lot of internet access. I might pickup my email and surf a bit while I'm traveling though. I had wanted to use the wifi for that.
Th HTC s743 gave AT&T a bit of a startle because the didn't know what it was.
It's functioning but even though I have Data Conn. turned off it still manages to automatically turn on once in a while. I see daily very low volume charges even though everything says I'm accessing via WIFI.
I just plugged the simm into the Tilt 2 and though I haven't called AT&T as yet about this phone it did allow calls in and out but I can't seem to get the internet connection working even though wifi shows as being connected. It takes a long time for it to connect compared with the S743.
So ... is there a way to use either of these phones via wifi only?
Just turning off the Data Conn. on the s743 doesn't seem to completely work. The pre loaded GPS app appears to automatically turn Data Conn. back on. I know it does this if wifi & Data Conn. are both turned off.
A neat little AT&T billing trick?
From what I have read on here I think I maybe screwed on the TILT 2.
It also appears that until I register the Tilt 2 with AT&T my WIFI internet surfing just isn't going to work or do I have something else wrong?
I just have Data off, and no Data plan, but I'm using a android phone. I'm using the HTC Aria.
I was able to fix the S743 by just deleting the "APN"? in the configuration menu. I can always reload it quickly from AT&T if need be. But that phone also let's me pick between AT&T or Tmobile so I think it's more flexible to begin with. It's WM6.1 whereas the AT&T Tilt 2 is WM6.5 and there's no such configuration page where you can download the network configuration from AT&T. I've looked but maybe I missed something?
I also can't get this phone to work on WIFI either yet.
If you can, just change a character in the apn. This will stop it connecting, and it will let you easily switch it back on by changing it back if need be

Wifi-Calling T-mobile?

Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know if this phone supports Wifi-Calling via T-mobile?:cyclops:
It does. I tried it last night. Turned to airplane and turned back on wifi, made a call just fine over wifi on T-Mobile.
I had no idea it could do that, but since my house is a bit of a Faraday Cage my G5+ starts the call as a provider call (T-Mobile) & jumps over to WiFi as soon as the connection is made. Totally threw me for a loop, I've wanted this feature on an OON phone for several years... way to go, Moto... oops, I mean Lenovo
Dave in San Jose
I might be missing something but it doesn't say WiFi call when set to WiFi preferred and I'm on WiFi. I try turning airplane mode on and WiFi on and get a message that I have to connect to a network. In TMobile.

Did you enable it in settings? I've found it to be a little finicky sometimes, but it usually works pretty well.
It works but for me caused SMS/MMS delivery issues with the wifi router i was on. So i turned it off. I can turn it on when i need it for now, no need.
Get an sms app that supports forcing sms over cell even if you are on wifi like textra.
Sorry to bother, but it doesn't work for me. I have wifi preferred and wifi calling enabled, but it doesn't work when I do airplane mode-with-wifi on.
Any chance this could be due to APN settings? Can someone with this working share their APN? I know on my previous phone (Nexus 6), the T-Mobile APN settings were confusing and tricky. Thanks in advance!
Turning on airplane mode got wifi calling and SMS to work for me no problem. I have "wifi-calling preferred" selected in settings - is there any good way to get it to switch over automatically when cell service is poor? would like to not have to hit airplane mode every time.

Actually, you shouldn't need to turn on airplane mode. That seems to just be a way to confirm it is actually using wifi since it ensures cell radios are turned off. It will automatically switch if you do not turn on airplane mode. If you look at the phone when a call is connected, it will confirm that it is a wifi call. This is a small drawback to the Moto G5 Plus software. Unlike other phones that actually tell you that the phone will use wifi in the notification area, this phone only acknowledges the wifi calling after the call is made or received. It would be nice if they would change that.
However, I am having a problem with mine not working properly on wifi. It seems that calls will not always go through to my phone. The phone will ring, but won't let me answer the call. It will quite often show the same call repeatedly even though I cannot answer the call. The caller tells me they hear nothing the entire time it should be ringing and eventually gives a busy signal. It doesn't even go to voice mail so they can leave a message. Sometimes it works perfectly, but there is no way to know when it's not going to work. I used to be able to get it to work again if I switched off wifi and connected to LTE, then made a test call before turning wifi back on. Now I can't seem to get that to work any more. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
Hi brothers,
Please, can you share some screenshots of these VoWIFI options in settings?
I feel the "reteu" (european) version doesn't have enabled VoLTE and VoWIFI.
