I use PimBackup in Winmo. Is there a way to easily port over contacts? Now that Android is bootable I want to give it a shot.
My suggestion is in Winmo set up google sync. It interfaces as a activesync exchange connection.
http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo
When you boot into android, login with your gmail, your contacts automatically download.
Hope this helps
MrDJ
I don't have a gmail. Is there an option when I sign up for a gmail email address to pull the contacts off my phone and store them?
go back to win mobile pim your contacts back to your phone then follow this guide http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo
I did this without using any data. Using ActiveSync transfer WinMo contacts to your Outlook. Export those contacts to a .csv file, then import that to Gmail. Not having a Gmail account is not an excuse anymore! With Gmail you can easily edit and organize those contacts, then export a .vcf file.
Download Android app called "VCardIO" it doesn't work with 2.0.1 but worked with everything prior for me (1.1, 1.5, 1.6). It's freeware.
Put contacts.vcf to the root of your SD card, open VCardIO and press Import From.
Now that it doesn't work, does anyone have an .apk that will do this and works with 2.0.1?
thanks for the responses, i used jamezelle's method and setup a gmail account, it works great
Try sprite Migrate. You back up your win-mo contacts using a sprite migrate on your ppc. Then you convert it on your desktop to a android usable file(.smf). Then you open the file on your android phone after downloading sprite migrate from the android market. Here's a link they have easy instructions....http://www.spritesoftware.com/Products/Migrate/Migrate-Your-Data-Now/How-To-Transfer

Hi
I second ths view. I have tried this across 2 builds and it works great (for Contacts and SMS)
I tried a WiMo 6.5 program called vCard Expert which I downloaded from the Windows Phone marketplace. It let me store all my contacts into a single vcard .vcf file which i sent as an email attachment to my gmail account. Gmail let me import the vcard file with all my contacts.

Hi Guys,
I'm new to xda-dev and I'll get my nexus one tomorrow or on monday (DHL screwed up delivery yet again here in London).
The first most important thing for me is to import my 500+ contacts from my Nokia N97 to the nexus and I have no clue how to do this since it's a different OS.
Can someone please guide me in details asap??
I heard about the using mail for exchange sync (steps needed) and this thing called "sprite migrate" (google it as I'm barred from posting links for now) which has free apps for Nokia (symbian) n Nexus (android) to do it.
Has anyone ever used any of these?? Also I have my Nokia contacts etc. backed up on the latest version of Ovi suite if that can be used as well.
Thanks a lot and please reply.
PS: I did a search and did not find a relevant thread answering this so please make this exhaustive.
I'd focus on getting your n97 contacts into Outlook Express/Windows mail/Etc first. Most contact formats can be imported into Gmail (and thus automatically synced to your N1)
But the n97->something on windows step is pretty nokia specific so I can't help you there.
I did the same thing for my gf and her N85. First, go into your Nokia's settings and copy all contacts to your SIM card. Then when you put your SIM card into your N1, you can import all the contacts off the SIM. Voila.
Thanks guys, my phone just arrived n i'll try the simple sim copy first (how do we forget such basic things!)...if not then the sprite migrate app sounds totally brilliant after reading the manual...copies bookmarks, texts, music, pics etc too!!
i had over 600 contacts and couldnt copy it to SIM. Instead i installed mail exchange on my n97 and synced with google contacts. Then it automatically synced with my Nexus one. Good luck.
Download the nokia pc suite. Install. It will read your contacts when you connect the nokia to the pc. From the suite export as csv file.
Go to gmail, create a dummy entry with the fileds you will need. Export from gmail contacts as csv.
Then open nokia csv file in excel and also gmail csv in excel.
Copy paste nokia csv contacts to the right columns in the gmail csv file.
when done, save gmail csv file and import back to gmail. Then synch contacts form the nexus. They will magically appear on the phone.
My contacts where 548. Everything worked smooth.
If something appears wrong, then check again/correct gmailcsv file on the pc and to the same procedure again. delete contacts from gmail beforehand.
You could install MailForExchange and sync your contacts directly to Google, as per here: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=147951
I used that to migrate from N95 to N1
Thing you're SOL with the messages though, I'm afraid.

You shouldn't need to create a dummy entry. I managed to get contacts off a nokia 5800, by simply exporting the csv from pc suite and uploading it direct through gmail.
hey i am using ovi suite with my nokia phone and i have all my contacts synced there and i tried syncing them with outlook then exporting csv and importing it into gmail. but there are some faults with this. some fields are not created in outlook (like nickname) and when i have more than one number assigned to a contact sometimes the second number or the third is not added to outlook. how can i exactly export my contacts as they are on my ovi suite ?
Screw OVI. Like I said above, use MailForExchange.
Ok, a lot of people immediately advocate Google Sync. Here's the problem and it's a KNOWN ISSUE with S60. Google Sync using MfE will NOT copy the different phone #s of the same contact. This was a problem for me. Sure only like 10-20 contacts of mine had multiple #s listed under their name, but I didn't want to go through line by line and fix it.
So you can:
1) Use Outlook to deal with it which should do it flawlessly
2) Use SIM (but I highly recommend you to look elsewhere and not use this)
3) I settled and instead of bothering with Outlook and installing PC Suite and crap, I decided to use Mac OSX. I have heard friends telling me how they plug in random dumbphones into their Mac and it does it all. Yeah. It did. My N82 synced FLAWLESSLY with iSync which comes built in. This is the one time I'm going to act like a retarded Mac user and scream "OMG my mac does everything." Somehow it just handles pulling contacts off FLAWLESSLY. It got the multiple #s for my contacts. I synced it onto my Moto Milestone without any trouble. Yay!
As for your SMS and maybe other info, try this:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/ - Look for Sprite Migrate software. It's free.
I tried it on my N82 but it failed. I submitted an error log, and it seems someone else had some issues with FP1 devices, and the manufacturer is aware. However you're on S60v5 so you might have better luck. People don't care about FP1 devices anymore so I think I'm SOL. Give it a try. Trust me I've looked into this issue a lot and I've crossposted on 20 forums about this (ok more like 2-3).
GoogleSync via MfE does copy all numbers for each contact, lots of mine have multiple numbers and all made it to GoogleContacts.
Not only that, it also copied the contacts pictures, their birthdays, etc.
SPRITE MIGRATE sounds ace!

I just did the simple copy to sim and then to N1 method and then sorted duplicates out on google contacts site.
But I read about "sprite migrate" which is free and seems to transfer all messages/contacts nicely. Apps available on ovi store and android market to get u going as their instructions state. Let us know.
Easiest way ever
It's pretty simple:
1) get rid of Nokia Ovi Suite
2) Go to Nokia website and downloads Nokia Pc Suite ( i got version 7.1.51)
3) Follow on screen intructions for app install & phone connection
4) With the phone connected, click on the "contacts" icon (blue phone book). It will open Nokia Communicator, and a list with all your contacs
5) Select all of them( click on the first one, then go for CTRL + A)
6) Go to: File > Export
7) Choose a file name and location.
8) Go into: Gmail > Contacts > More actions > Import
9) Pick the csv file you just created, and have a nice and easy import
Congratulations on
Being well over a year too late
Coming up with a more long-winded solution than the one already posted
Lol @ above post.
I'm getting my X10 in a couple of days, I currently have an HTC Diamond (Windows Mobile phone).
What's the easiest way to transfer my contacts from the Diamond to the X10?
I am not familiar with winMo. can you backup/export the contact to sd card. if you can then just insert the same card in to X10 and import the contacts from sd card.

dude use Sprite Migrate follow the link you can transfer contacts, text messages and call logs all to android. and its free.
What i did was i sync my WindowsMobile phone with Outlook, then downloaded and ran CompanionLink for Android which basically syncs your Outlook contacts, calendar, and notes with your Google account. So if your X10 is syncing with Google, all your contacts will copy over. It's a very neat program.
I believe you have to pay for CompanionLink after the evaluation period.
Another way to do this is to copy your Outlook contacts to Gmail contacts. Google provides instructions on how to do that. For the calendar, Google provides software to sync the Outlook calendar with Google calendar.
As the previous poster stated, once you got your Xperia, you just set it up to sync with Google and that should do it. The only issue is that if you still use Outlook as your main program, there is no automatic sync of the contacts between Outlook and Gmail contacts. You may just have to pay CompanionLink for that.
Also, if you work for a company that has Microsoft Exchange servers, then the Xperia already comes with Moxier apps to sync with the info. from work.
Just backup your contact list from your windows htc, save it on his flash card, you will find a file .cts or .vct, something like that...than copy this file to your computer, than go to your google acount, find your contacts and click in import contacts, just find the backup file that u did before and upload...when u finish this, just plug your xperia to usb and google sysnc will transfer all your contacts...
I transferred my Contacts from my X2 win mobile to X10 by using Bluetooth.
Just go in and select all contacts and then beam them across.
Simples!!!

Yes you do. But once you have done it just make a backup of your contacts to your SD card then you will not have the problem again.
I have synced my contacts back to my phone using MyPhone onto the basic Win Mo that comes with the Desire ROM.. and now want to get them onto android..
where abouts would my contacts be as i have no icon for People..
im using File Explorer where abouts are contacts located? Thanks.
you cant get your contacts from winmo into android by browsing, it just isnt possible
You can use activesync for that. Just use m.google.com and your Gmail login. It syncs your contacts, tasks and agenda etc. Works great!
If you haven't got a Gmail account you can search google for "Sprite Migrate" (It's free and gets the job done). Export your contact from WinMob, save to PC and import in Android.

NO, your Android Apps is stored in the sd card. copy/bckup evrything in your sr card to your pc.
when you flash to stock, remove your sd card before hand. then just follow my recommendation.
. . . then format sd card (full format fat 32 ) then simply copy the backup you made
in your pc back to your sd card.
why just have a basic almost non functioning winmo, when.you can flash an Android friendly custom ROM, fully functioning. in effect you have 2 functioning OS',
HI
I am looking for a way to restore my contacts whick i have on outlook to my hero.....
suprisingly htc sync is not working after a rom upgrade......pls help guys
its a huge task to add contacts manually.......
HTC sync is a feature of Sense Roms ,. Unfortunately you cant have that on CM 6 based roms as they lack sense.
my recommendation for a Quick fix for you may be to flash a sense rom and sync your contacts and then change your contacts to google contacts as opposed to phone or sim contacts and then back them up on your google account.

Log in to your Gmail account (the one that you used originally on your phone) on your PC and go to Contacts. In the "More Actions" menu there is an option to Import contacts. Export your contacts from Outlook to a .CSV file, then import them into your Gmail account. Once they are there, they should synchronise with your phone correctly, and from then on, if you wipe your phone, when you sign back in with your google account on the new ROM, the contacts will automatically transfer again.

Happy to help The only issue there is that you need to keep the gmail contacts up to date as well as your Outlook contacts, but it does work well
Hey what I figured out recently when I got my hero is more of a work around than an official way to do this. What I do is I select all the contacts in my outlook contacts folder, then I right click and say send as a business card. What this does is create an e-mail with all your contacts listed as business card .vcf files. All these files will appear in the new mail dialog under attachments. I right click on that particular dialog and select all - it then offers you the option to cut/copy all these vcfs - once you do that then you can just paste them in whichever folder you wish. Once they are all there just transfer them to a folder on your SD card and use the import feature thats in the contacts application. You can import from SD card and it will locate and list all those vcfs of the SD card. Thats about the best and easiest way I've found of doing this. However when I change the contact on the phone I will try obviously have to find some reverse method to get it back into outlook sychro'd Only got my hero two days ago so will figure something out soon hopefully
hi
i backup all my contacts using pim backup when i was running win 6.5 on hd2. now i have switched to hd2. is there any way to import the contact on android by using the back up. please help
First, you must transfer your contacts to outlook and then export your contacts to a csv file with using your outlook.
And open your gmail then import the csv file to your gmail account. And open your android ppc login your gmail account, syncronisation will start. 5minutes later you will see all of your contacts on the android ppc.
Edit :I misunderstood, I dont know how can you do that with pimbackup.
