My phone is beginning to repeatedly give me a low storage warning.
Was just wondering if there are any solutions or things you can recommend. Perhaps transfer everything from the phone storage to my 16gb storage card?
Or things that can be deleted without doing damage?
Look forward to your reply!
Theres a couple quick things that come to mind
Ensure camera photots are saved on memory card (done in camera settings)
Make sure Opera cache is on Storage card (there is info on how to do this on the forum)
Try not to use Marketplace as it defaul installs apps to device (unable to change default)
If you do use marketplace ensure you move the apps using FileManager (or equivalant)
Ensure all apps (except system updates) are installed on Storage Card
Delete cabs from device after installation
Ensure all music/files/photos are stored on storage card
did anyone find a way to store e-mails on microSD (not attachments) ?

Top man! That's good advice there. Is there any other things that need the default save location changed?

PocketBible (version 2.020) doesn't seem to work, at least it can't read the bibles. Upon opening I get...
Error (183) accessing database "Laridian Data" Additional information is not available
These bibles are stored on the storage card. It also seems that I can't install PocketBible in main memory, even if I specify Main Memory during the install.
try removing the storage card before installation, I have had this problem with another laridian product when installed to card and not main memory. I cant think why it refuses to install to main memory, I assume you have enough free memory to install the program.
Been there seen that you need to updated your Preferred Bible to the
latest version.
After that goto View, Options, Prefs and set your Preferred Bible.
If it still fails to run shut down Pocket Bible and delete all of the .ttf files from your Pocket Bible root folder. Then go back to View, Options, Prefs and reset your Preferred Bible. I'm pretty sure thats how I fixed!
HTH
Thanx All
The problem was that I had two laridian directories, one in main memory (from previous sync'd files) and one on the storage card. I deleted the one from the sync'd files and all was well again.
Thanx for your help
So you're syncing your bibles, interesting!
Yeap two directories would cause a preference issue, glad you got it working though.
BTW that was a great find on the two directories too.

It may be that you have too many apps installed to main memory but equally important are other things:
1. Clear your P. Internet explorer history and saved files in the PIE options menu.
2. Do a soft reset (stylus in hole) you should notice far more memory on restart. Various temp files are cleared and memory leaks sorted by doing this.
3. consider getting an app. that that cleans out various temp files etc - there are a few around.
Mike
PS uninstalling some programs leaves behind large settings files.
ok I just got my diamond, and I had 43MB of free space, after installing xmods HD, and S2A, I only have 3 mb left, what can I uninstall to get more space???
I need like 6 more megs to install sprint picture mail cab and S2U2
1. kill your operator rom and update your rom with an optimized one (use the search!)
2. install software on storage card
try to use third part software, e.g. SKTools. Then use it for optimizing registry, clean orphan files and shortcuts, temporary files from Opera and others.
Try to store e-mail attachments at Internal Storage, short messages (SMS) as well.
Try to delete unnecessary files from main memory in My Documents folder. If you want to store some own music or ringtones - use My documents at Internal Storage.
BTW - don't try to delete files if you are not sure what it exactly is!!!
With SKTools you can move installed apps, like Google Maps (12mb), to the "Internal Storage".
I install some aplications in internal memory, but i find out that my device memory is reduced.. Why? Can i do anything for this? The reason for installing a game in internal is because i dont have much memory in device. But device memory is also reduced .. I cant understand it..
Ι made a mistake in the above , i install in internal storage , not internal memory that i wrote , but device memory is also reduced..
What does it mean?
If you install some apps in internal memory it would be "steal" exactly some internal memory.
But why can;t you install it into Internal Storage? Do you mean you have less than 4 GB Internal Storage? or you have a lot of stuff there?
There is no way to put files somewhere else: Internal Storage or Main memory...
I've just read my data: Program Memory: 38.45 MB free, Data storage 83.7 MB free (22.85 MB busy)....
I put to main memory only three or four apps (touchLock pro, Gscroll, and ... I don't remember)....
Other apps -> Internal Storage.
I know what takes so much memory. Extracted themes to TF3D. You know where I find every old unpacked themes?
I had a lot of them and each time after the installation of another theme in the place of my missing memory. I thought that these files are exchanged, but apparently it is not.
Hi,
I bought unbranded sim-free HD2 with 1.48 ROM. Since i bought the phone, I never installed any software on internal storage. I always select SD Card.
Yesterday I tried to download a 65MB file on my SD card through Opera and I got error insufficient storage.
My HD2 shows Total Storage = 181.47 MB, Used = 105.63 MN and Free 75.84 MB.
Could you please share how much free storage you have and how can i increase the free storage in my phone.
Thanks
Guys,
Please guide me to increase my internal memory
To be honest, that sounds pretty normal. I'm suprised you'd be trying to download a file of that size to your phone.
Can you not just download it on your PC and then (if it needs to be on your phone) copy it across using a USB cable?
Edit:
There are methods of freeing up some space - search for moving cache files and you'll probably find something.
Usually I'm not as patient as members like Skip or Antonio to name a few, but you could take a look at this or this or this or this or this or this or this or this or this post.

Thanks for OPera cache tip. I'll try that
Hi pda_crazy
The 181.47 is your onboard flash storage, you need to see SD Card under settings>SD Card & Phone Settings down the bottom
Your phone is not detecting your card because it is probably corrupt, I tried to reformat my 2GB SD that came with my phone because mine was not detecting the SD card and windows said it was corrupt. Purchased a new 8GB MicroSD and was able to format disk and since then the phone recognises it and had no problems.
Hope that helps
Try the attached cleantemp program,
in the menu/main settings change the custom folders to:
1. windows/opera/profiles/cache
2. application data/htc/album/cache
3. windows/youtube ( you may not see this directory if you dont use youtube)
Clean the phone
This should help
like 4tune said: there are some threads, which explains, how to save main storage, also sticky posts. just use search function of Board in Leo-Area.
e.g. "save or free" "main storage"
or
"move google maps to storage card" (would save 20-40 mb)
or
"treesize mobile" (free app which shows you where/how much you have stored - perhaps you know it from your PC)
And everywhere also the same remark all above: install as much as possible and senseful for you by default to storage card.
I'm a T-Mobile Rep and stumbled upon this thread when trying to help a customer set his default storage to the SD Card. While I was reading this thread the customer actually solved his own problem.
Go to MarketPlace, Select Menu, go into settings. You will then see where you can set the default storage to Memory Card. I'm an android guy but I'm learning more and more about Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and even Nokia/Ovi/Symbian.
Cheers!
It seems that Opera 9 saves downloads to a folder on the phones 'device memory', but it doesn't always delete them when you tell opera to do so in the downloads menu tab.
It saves them too: \My Device\Windows\opera9\profile\download
When I deleated most of the files there, it released over 110 MB of space in the device storage .
I wonder where other programs save similar files?
Sam.
I did search and with the google searches I've done, can't really figure it out so thought might ask here.
When I moved applications to external sd card, i didn't realize it didn't move the application data itself (inside obb folder), which is in the android device's internal memory. So basically, I have the application (i guess equivalent to .exe for windows) on the external sd card, but the beef of it (the applicatin's data) is still on the internal memory and using up the device's memory....how can I move the data (obb folder) to external, remove it from interernal to free up space, and have it boot up / work on the android device?
i'm not advance geek so need a dummy explination
You didn't provide details of how you moved the app or even what app we are talking about. So it's impossible to give targeted advice. Which is unfortunate since you want a dumbed down, simple answer. Which can't be done without knowing those crucial details.
You can use one of the Play store apps to move the app. I'm sure that some of them would move the app data as well. Or change the app data path (folder) in the app's settings. Or reinstall the app. Or alias the current internal data location to the external card with a symbolic link. Or any number of other ways.
The simplest options there would be trying some of the Play store apps that assist in moving programs to the external data card. And if that doesn't work for some reason, then reinstall your app.
Good luck.

Only thing I've done was root it then moved the application (move to sd card) via settings >> Application Manager. i want to do it for all apps but it's mainly due to games taking up lots of space. Reinstallng won't help cause everything that's obb just direct itsself to the internal storage, nothing i installed even gives me the option to install data into external, just only has a install button and it installs to internal memory
I'm not going to sort all of that out. It can be done if you look into the details.
The best advice that I can offer is to consider installing a custom S5 ROM like Phoenix. It has a setup option to swap the SD cards. That would mean that all of your apps that automatically install and live on the internal memory.. would actually end up on the external card. And it works perfectly.. because the apps think that they are on the internal card even though they aren't.
The source script could also be applied to your existing configuration, but doing so would not fit inside your stipulation for a simple answer.

by the way...

fffft, one question here: Would it be possible to format the whole external SD card with ext4? So it would be quite simple to copy such files manually within a shell and set a softlink to the moved files? I don't understand why android stays with that fat drived file systems were softlinks are not working. Is there any reason for? So all data2SD apps have to work with specific *mounts*. I can't believe that this is fast and stable.

That won't work unless you do a lot more prep work. The file system isn't invisible, the OS would have to interact differently with ext4 than ExFAT. The OS would balk the first time it tried to follow a symbolic link and didn't find the ExFAT structure it expects.
To make that work, you'd need to mount the card yourself, manage permissions and hide the file attributes i.e. permissions from the void manager and other housekeeping tasks. Android expects to find a case insensitive and permissionless FS. Otherwise, void will report errors to the volume manager and the OS won't recognize your card. All of which is to say that this is a more distant outlier to the requirement for a simple solution. So you'd be generating fatal errors the first time the OS tried to follow a symbolic link to your ext4 files.
So yeah you can shoehorn an ext4 card into the system with enough work. But it isn't as simple as you believe. So back to my suggestions that the OP either install a custom ROM that does what he wants or that he looks at the script that I linked him to. Or perhaps migrate to CM 11, where native support for ext4 and NTFS have been added.
