and then put a 8gb transcend class 6 microSDHC card into that that i will be getting for christmas.
(My gf had to have me give the money to my mom order it because she doesnt have access to a credit card lols. and i'm getting it this thrusday or friday, because as of the 2AM the 26th im in cambodia and need some time to load up my 8 gigs of space.)
I dont plan to APPS2SD until i get my 8gig card, and dont plan on backing it up until then, speedy replies appreciated, tyvm!
Also, what are the benefits of metamorph or the amon ra recovery over say not having it or the cyanogen one?
Because you have installed Cyanogen ROM you probably have a custom recovery installed such as CM-Recovery-1.4. Boot into recovery, you will see an option for backup, then place the SD card into your card reader. Copy the Nandroid directory from the flash card root directory. When you get your new card simply copy that folder back to the newly formatted (fat32) card, go back into recovery and use the restore from backup feature. Reboot.
BTW, just like when you flashed the rom, use Power+Home while booting up to get into the recovery console.
As long as you are not using apps2sd, this should fully backup and restore the applications.
You could also maybe get away with just copying the files from one flash drive to another and then rebooting, but file permissions might be all messed up - that I am not sure of.
If you have Amon_RA's recovery. Do a BART backup. It'll backup your apps on your ext as well. Copy the bart folder onto your desktop. Partition your new sd card. From there copy the BART folder into your new SD card and do a BART recovery. Voila.

Installed Amon_RA, very happy with that system, made the backup way fast, used a 64mb swappiness with 500mb or whatever for ext2 (upgraded to 3 then 4) installed the backup, took like 10 minutes, and between that and going from the stock 1gb microSDHC card to a class 6 8gig transcend, my phone goes like a billion times faster Really recommend it to anyone :] and the card was like 22$ with the shipping, 30$ without the free shipping :O

Sorry to be one of those people that ask a question that has already been asked...but I can't seem to find the right answer.
I am running Cyanogen 4.2.3.1 and Amon Ra 1.2.3. I had a 1GB sd card and had it partitioned using Amon Ra partition method. Everthing was running fine, but i wanted a bigger sd card. Got a new 8GB class 6 and partioned that using the same method as the previous card. I had backed up my 1GB sd card to my computer and puth those files onto the new 8GB card. After doing this my phone didnt have any of the apps installed on the 1GB card. The market says thay are installed on my phone but my phone cannot find them. Please Help!

Did you backup and restore your ext partition? Because that is where the apps are stored if you have the partition.

Hey, I just got a new larger and faster microSD card for my phone. I tried just doing a straight copy of the data from one card to the other, but it doesn't work. How do I do a copy that works like the old one does and keep my Fresh ROM intact as well?
couple ways of doing this...
#1. If you do NOT use a2sd
just mount your old sdcard to your computer and copy all the stuff into a folder on your desktop or something.
Then unmount the sdcard on your phone, replace with newer one, move everything back
#2. if you DO use a2sd heres what you do, or im guessing
First star on #1
Boot up into recovery and make a nandroid + ext backup.
Replace sdcard with newer one then partition it like you did to your older card
Move the nand backup you just made onto your new card
Nandroid restore it, then move all your other data onto your card
Hi, Iv'e just ordered a 16gb sd card to replace the 2gb card I am currently using and was looking for some advice on how to copy over the contents.
I'm currently running miui with a 500mb ext on the card, having looked around the forums I have seen that I can change cards by backing up using recovery, creating ext on new card then copying contents over to new card and doing a restore.
The problem I have is that the last time I did a backup/restore using CWR it simply reinstalled the ROM as a fresh install and I lost all data and apps, so I am reluctant to do this.
My question is, can I simply create an ext on the new card and copy over the data from the old cards ext and does it matter if the new ext is bigger than the old one?

do a full cwm backup
partition the new card
copy all fat32 part contents onto new card (be sure you have unhidden all files and that you get everything)
card into phone, dont let the rom boot go straight..
..into cwm
backups/restore
advanced restore
restore sd-ext
reboot
no need to wipe teh rom and reflash or full restore, , only teh sd-ext.

I couldn't get in to CWM again. It worked when I installed my Hyperdroid ROM via SD.
I reflashed CWM, now my NAND android was gone!
I reflashed it, and it works now, but still it sucks balls.

I have the DL DesireZ SD MAGLDR Android ROM for HTC HD2 on SD and LEO "Stock Desire" on NAND. I have been using the SD card ROM for about a week now and am happy with it. I would like to backup all apps + System Data & cache (of the sd card ROM) and restore the same to a higher capacity card.
Which would be the best way to do it? (I do have CWM installed through ROM Manager on the sd card ROM).
If I boot into another ROM from the same SD card, will it pick up the apps+data+cache from it?
Will the backup be created on on the sd card or internal memory? I'm not sure there is enough space on internal memory.
I apologise if my question has been asked/explained earlier on this forum. I did try to search for an answer, but was not very sure; as this is also my first stint at backing up.
Any help would be much appreciated.

If you plan on using the same build on the new SD card, then just copy the Data.img over. If you are changing builds, use Titanium Backup free on the Android market. This will create a copy of anything you need on a folder on your SD card, and you can restore this at any time.
sd roms live in their own folder. just move this folder to the other sd. all your information and apps are in data.img in that folder. but just in case use titanium backup.
all sd roms use their folders. so you can use more than one sd-rom naming their folders differently with very few problems.

I use Titanium Backup free, too.
You can choose "Backup all Apps + system Data" and restore them on every ROM you use.
I have just downloaded Titanium backup free - will be backing up and switching cards shortly.
I've switched the cards, and everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for the help, everyone!
The only thing is, the internal storage has not increased, even though I have increased the partition size of ext2, could it be because I've just dumped all folders on FAT32? Anyway, that's not a major issue.

hello everyone, i backed up my files using the CWM recovery, this may seem like a simple question (im a noob) but where do the backed up files go? i do not see them on my sd card or on the nook (built in memory) can i delete the backed up files? or get to them? Also a member here told me to buy 2 sd cards is a good idea, one with all the info and the other empty for apps and music so i can keep the sd card in the nook without it going to CWM everytime i boot, but if i buy a new sd card do i need to format it? or just use it out of the box and into the nook, will my apps still work since the new sd card is empty and my files?

Always format new cards. And never use Windows format. Use this. A freebie. Windows format can corrupt uSD.
Your nandroid (CWM) backup will be in the Backup folder in the ClockworkMod folder. It should be on your uSD.
One uSD is enough as long as it's large enough to hold all you want to use. I've always used at least a 16Gb card. Always name brand (SanDisk). You really don't want to swap back and forth. As long as your nandroind is on removable memory you should be safe. Some people copy their nandroind backups to their desktop computers for safe-keeping. A bit OCD but not really a bad idea.

If you use the uSD as flashable CwMR, then you wouldn't want to reformat the card, otherwise, you have to recreate it once again if you want to do a backup or install.

Others have formatted their uSD cards in their NC's but as a general rule I don't. I know I sound like a one-trick pony but one needs to start with a good formatted card otherwise everything else is for naught.
The reason I ask is because I don't want to keep pulling out my SD card everytime I turn my nook on, so if I were to format the new SD card how would I do it?

Either you confuse about CwM uSD or I (we) do not fully understand your issue.
1. If your uSD is a flashable CwM Recovery then it WILL BOOT into CwM Recover EVERY TIME you boot up with that uSD card plugged in. That's the way it is
2. If your uSD is for normal usage, you should NOT have any problem leaving the uSD card in the NC when booting up.
