NOOO!!! My LEO cracked - HD2 General

Hey,
I have a HTC HD2 and the glass cracked.. The LCD and Touch Screen is working fine, but the glass is cracked.
Is it easy to replace and how much would it cost me?

use the search and you'll find a similar topic.
Repair will cost you £120 in UK and in spain 220€. Maybe this can give you an idea...

But i only need the parts.. I want to repair it myself

how did it happen?

Can i just remove all the glass? And make a new piece myself and glue it on?

You can try search ebay but I don't think that you'll find any spare parts at least for now since the phone isto too recent :-|

Hey,i replaced the screen of my HD some time ago,you can just purchase the body (touchscreen included) for around 50$,i dont know how much it should cost for HD2.

Well i doubt you can make a piece of glass that fits this exactly unless you are a glassmaker. Also it should have the attribute to transmit the electrical impulse of your finger.
I think it is glued as it exactly fits the frame (no channel or something where the glass is tightened - sorry for bad english) but thats just a guess.
No repair manual out yet? I had one for the HD just after some days of its release...

Seriously though good luck getting it fixed, you should be able to get parts however from what i've read elsewhere on the forum they're pretty hard to get hold of (as in short supply).
I would recommend finding the other post and asking how/where the other user got the necessary parts.

WOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! am in tears here!... thats serious abuse that my friend. did you need hospital treatment after 1st seeing your phone in that condition! lol sorry... i agree with the guy saying it would be difficult to find a perfect fitting piece of glass, personally i`d just pay to have it fixed profesionally by htc. you could end up paying more money if you dont fit it right, or something goes drastically wrong while replacing it damaging more components.

Keyboard transparent stripe scratched

Hi,
the keyboard transparent upper part is being scratched. I don't know if it depends on the contact with the ppc body when it comes in contact with keyboard, but as this transparent stripe has been made with some like plastic - pexyglass material, I supposed it would be easy for it being scratched. Any suggestion to remove scratches? I know it should exist some specific product usually used to repair cellular display scratched, but really I don't know if I have to try to use it...

Yep same problem here and most likely with everyone who uses the keyboard.
Removing the scratches IMHO is a waste of time as they will reoccur in due time, unless you remove them and then buy and apply some cheap screen protector material to apply to the plastic to prevent it being scratched again.
Even the main unit suffers from scratches due to the poor design of the keyboard/unit fit.
Thanx for your replay,
when you say even the main unit suffers from scratches due to the poor design of the keyboard/unit fit, you mean the metal body or display?
In your opinion the product above could eliminate scrtaches or it's a waste of time?

The metal body. If it hasn't happened to you yet, you may be able to prevent it by doing a bit of DIY. Look for scratches on the inside lip of the casing (near the screen) by the Vue Flko button. Apparently the keyboard connectors have 2 little protruding black plastic bits that scratch that part of the unit over time.
Don't know if filing it down is a good idea though.
eheh sorry but what is DIY? A kind of woodoo rite to avoid it?

i think it's worth the try anyway, you got nothing to lose, it won't make it worse for sure.
Just to inform you that product usually used to repair cellular display scratched...WORKS!!!
I went to a shop in Hong Kong last night and they helped me to covered the keyboard with a 3M transparent protector, I asked them to cover the two "pointly stick" near the connectors and hope it will help to solve the scratch near the "vlo" button. It costs around US10 for the protector.
please can you link me this 3M product?

cracked screen

Today I broke my HD2 screen
Anyone knows if are outside guides to change the screen like hd2 official service guides and any shop that sell "cheap" (compared to official service) hd2 screens?
thanks for all
Sorry for your broken HD2...
May I ask, how did you manage to break it? I'm asking because it might give us a sense on how fragile these things are.
Sorry for your HD2.
Anyway, how you broke it?
WOW!How did you did that?
Sorry for your screen!

I use the phone as an alarm clock.
When sounded, I took it to shut it down and I dropped into bed. When going to pick it up accidentally leaned on the screen by making some pressure and I broke it

Damn! I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to replace, but if you don't think you can do it yourself better get someone else to do it! It will end up being cheaper than having to replace the whole phone

With most phones the screen is separate from the main board and chipsets etc. As far as I am aware usually the screen will be screwed in but not embedded into it. Though I could be wrong!!..... Just hoping to give some optimism
The screen is replaceable. You're not so lucky, man
Well, seeing this image actually hurts directly to my heart!
Anyway, search on eBay, but I don't think that there is any replacement part as the phone is completely new.
I did the same just now, except it's not the actual glass that's broken but it looks like the screen underneath. That however is completely shot, again, anybody know if it's possible to replace this?
And for those interested, pictures.
Result after dropping from about chest hight on the ground.

Repost, sorry
Mine's back with the service repair centre in the UK for a cracked screen and have just had my quote for repair £118.
No one else seems to have the spares.
The screen itself and surround was quoted at £78 labour £22, and the rest is for delivery.
The service centre isn't the quickest it's taken them a week from receiving the phone to give me a quote and then it's 5 days after you pay for them to fix the phone and test the software.
Luckily the insurance is paying
i can't believe!!!!!
i cracked my screen too!!
it falls down from 50 centimeters and the glass cracked in 1000 pieces!! i'll post the picture soon.
tomorrow i'm going to call the italian call center ..
Ouch!
Got my HD2 yesterday, now it has a hairline crack in the screen about 1cm long - don't know how - it's only been in a jacket pocket and car cradle.
Screen too weak?
Edit: O2 shop said it's a scratch not a crack - so much for scratch resistant glass.

It should be covered under warranty. Check with whoever you got it from.
dont think "droppage" is covered under warranty.
This is why I have never paid for a phone (contract) but have always insured my phones.

oh no! not another one! 2 in 2 days now. think i`l be using gaffer tape to secure it to my hand from now on! lol.. these phones seem fairly easy to brake, like they disintigrate when they hit the floor. the amount of times i dropped my topaz, these dont survive even one drop do they.. scary!
Bummer! You know that is why I use this. Really smart protection. Up to now, not a single problem with the screen! (fingers crossed)
No really, I know from past experiences how you feel. Good luck.
I heard it costs around 240+ euros. Not sure tho..
Buy a replacement screen off of eBay! 50euros and you'll repair your device
I totaly agree. It really is scary. My old touch pro was really friendly with floor after meeting it several times xD but HD2 just hate floor, doesnt it?

AMEX (B or P) .... Extended Warrenty???
Most phones will look aesthetically rubbish after they've been introduced to concrete but few will actually break. It's a shame but obviously one of the pitfalls of having a glass screen. Surely this would happen to the iPhone etc too? The HD2 has a bigger screen so obviously the chances of breakage must increase too. The moral of this story? Don't buy a glass-fronted handset if you are a poor juggler!
This kind of rubber cover could save you
I highly recommend getting a resin soft case off ebay. it protects from scratches, fingerprints, it's movable and yet hard/fitting. It'll protect from a drop too, then again cases only take so much of a drop...

Sent From My HTC Evo Using Tapatalk Pro!
a pictures worth a thousand words .
phone fell off seat in movie theater, like 2 feet from ground..
was it naked?
I cried a little inside when I saw this picture..
without a case ? ya
sorry.
I hate how badly HTC tempers some of their phones [screen that is]
I remember when I got my first TP2, broke screen on first drop... I had a replacement,... That I still have... I treat it like trash! And lemme tell you this thing is sturdy. My Evo... Has been abused, dropped, fell straight on the curb of the sidewalk (right onto the raised part and onto the floor). Only visible thing is a tiny dot of glass that chipped off the lower bottom right.. This one is sturdy as hell too...
this was my first time dropping the phone, I only had it for about two weeks.
The screen is like scratch proof but not shatter proof, it should be the other way around at least (hopefully both). I tried using my keys to scratch out a hole in the glass so i could take it out and see if i could get a replacement glass but the keys wouldnt even scratch as hard as i tried
i died a little inside when i saw that picture. if that happened to my phone...i would probably cry
Dang that really sux. I was so scared when I dropped my Evo at work from a height of 30 ft and lucky for me I just had sum dirt in the kick stand but that was the day I added insurance on my bill. I'm sure if u have insurance they will give u a new screen as there was a time with my instinct I broke the screen 3 times in a month and Sprint fixed it no questions asked

I have no affiliation to that seller, just looked up the cheapest one that wasn't out of the country.
Looks like some guys just put up a repair video too and it doesn't look too difficult, but I'd be scared to do it myself lol.

Most sprint repair stores are stocking glass/screen replacements. Just go down there and get it fixed, generally they can do them in 15-20 minutes
actually im within the first 30 days, so im taking the phone back to a store and swapping it for a brand new one. which seems like a great deal to me.
if you are rooted you will probably have to unroot... but you already knew that
I just flashed back to the stock rom i found in the evo wiki, that should be good correct ?

You should be good with that. In my experience I've had no trouble taking rooted devices in to them. I always make sure at the very least it appears stock when they power it up.
I called them and they are the ones that suggested i just return it and get a new one since it's within thirty days. I called the store too, not sprint (sometimes they like to contradict each other).

[Q] Defy back door in aluminum?

Hello!
I've got a question, have anyone seen a back door in aluminum?
Searched a bit but haven't found one yet and I will probably not find it either.
Anyway, have anyone seen something like that? It would make the Defys back beautiful
You mean the battery cover? I doubt you'll find one.
Have seen some 3M carbon fibre stickers in Chinese sites, quite nice and cheap.

Maybe, but if it's just the back door and not the plastic frame it may work with out antenna problems. The battery would do the same as the aluminum back so who knows if it would work.

An aluminium version may be impossible to find, however you could try buying a replacement back cover, and then sending it off to be chrome plated.

Im not sure where you are in the world, but you should be able to find some Chrome plating services near to you, and it would be just a case of getting in touch with them for a quote.
Its more common for car parts to be chromed like this, although it is common to chrome plate plastic as well, ive seen pries for a handle bar break lever as low as £8
