hey all,
i am thinking of purchasing a samsung jack i637 smartphone running 6.1 standard. i am wondering if it would be possible to configure the device such that it will automatically update weather, rss feeds, podcasts from standby @ a scheduled time every morning from a wifi connection? and after the update is done wifi will disconnect and device will return back to standby.
i currently don't have a data plan but my wifi at home is always on. does anyone have a similar setup?
i've tried researching a bit.. and i have seen wm programs that can turn on wifi on a schedule. i've also seen some weather and rss programs have a setting for auto-update.. however i am unsure if it works for cellular radio independent wifi connection. i've also seen something with mortscripts, however that sounds quite complicated.
any comments would be greatly appreciated. perhaps is this possible on the nokia symbian devices?

Hi,
Is there any way to have the wizard wake up from stand by automatically and turn on its wi-fi? As i would like it to download podcasts during the night automatically, so i can listen to them on the way to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ButtonMax
Thanks alot! But does any one know anything that will work with windows mobile 5?I have heard from the windows mobile fix site that the Buttonmax software doesnt work well with windows mobile 5 and forces you to hard reset. Hopefully they will update the software to support wm5. Any other ideas in the meantime?
What ROM do you have? As for my T-Mobile (USA) MDA 2.26 official ROM if i have WiFi on when i go into standby it turns it right back on when i come out...
Or are you looking for something different?
I use the I-mate K-jam official rom, with aku2.0. Im not having a problem with the wi-fi, it turns on normaly when it comes out of standby, what i want to do it for a program or something to wake up the pocket pc, turn on wi-fi, and then download selected podcasts during the night. I definately think its something to look into, as it could open up alot of possiblities, such as syncing with exchange servers etc during the night with no user interaction.
ok, this may be an idea, but does any one know how to create a macro alarm for
spb time? is that even possible? so like after the alarm goes off, wi-fi turns on, and pocketmusic downloads the podcast... or what ever other program you can recomend for podcasts.
Skschema
Skschema can do this too, and is a reasonably powerful programming language if there other things you want to do.
Hey thanaks alot! That SKScheMa is exactly what im after!! Im not experienced in programing, but i will manage!
Hi I have looked on the wiki and for some posts and I couldn't find anything, sorry if this has already been answered but, this is what I want...
Various wlan to be setup on my phone, 3g to always be on. When I enter a zone that has wlan that I know of I can activate wlan and the phone prioritizes the wlan connection.
The best solution I have so far: wlan setup for many zones 3g is priority, when i enter a zone I have to connect wlan deactivate 3g connection wlan usually works unless the signal drops too low then 3g will start up and that will take priority(or worse case edge or gprs will start up, which I have never been able to get to actually work it says the connection is there but never have i loaded a web page or downloaded an email in anything other than wifi or 3g)
Now I think windows mobile is to blame here but is there a solution for me? I tried to set wifi as main connection method but when I did 3g never seemed to work maybe I just set it up completely wrong.
Maybe there is some good software that can do this for me? or a known method to get it working properly.
many thanks,
Chris
Am I really the only one not satisfied with the connection options on this phone?
I have friends with the iphone and g1 and they seem to have no problem using 3g and wlan without any hassle.

It's not a matter of "This Phone" it's a problem of Windows Mobile 80% of apps, and ROM fixes are to cover over failings and missing gaps in WM, things that SHOULD have been in place since WM2003. Same with the WinMobile UI... isnt much of one is there? not without a ton of today addons, and pocket plus or WisBar its M$'s strategy they make their money of other people's addons through licensing. You also lose out on 20% of WinMobile functionality if you don't have an Exchange server available, what do i need to buy Exchange server and run it at home on my desktop By buying a half dozen small apps i can get that functionality back at home but those apps are an additional 20+$ a pop.
notice on mobile office theres no database? Oh you can buy a 3rd party for 200$ Microsoft loves to play games.
Just my opinion
Hi guys,
I have recently moved from symbian platform to WinMo. I do have a question regarding data connection. Does it ever auto disconnects? (for example in my old N95 if I clicked sync in my mail application, the phone would connect, download new mail and then auto disconnect when the job was done)
Also the phone would disconnect from data connection after closing app that was using it.
Now with my HD2 when I sync email, refresh weather etc the data connection stays on. Do I have to disconnect it manualy every single time so it doesnt drain my battery? It is very annoying since I have to do it manually very often.
Please advise... maybe I am missing something...
Cheers
Pete
Hi,
There's a few threads on here on data connection disconnection. There is also a hints & tips thread right at the top of this page.
Use this tool to find what you are looking for..http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
WB
install the 1 min disconnect tweak thats on this forum.
if you only set emails to check automatically it will disconnect ok using the above tweak but if you have weather and/or twitter apps connecting to update for some reason it will not close the connection at all i have told htc but never heard back
The only real reason for disconnecting a data connection is if you want to prevent unwanted costs associated with data exchange.
If you're in a weak signal area you can save battery by switching the connection band to GSM rather than 3G, but in a strong signal, 3G is more power efficient.
An open, but quiescent data connection has little or no effect on battery life as it's simply using the network infrastructure; battery usage only occurs during actual data exchange. So, if you turn off all the auto-update features and set email polling to a longer interval you should be OK. Kind of defeats the purpose of the device though

From my experience all Symbian devices and the iPhone auto disconnect from the network once the data connection is no longer needed. They also reconnect in the blink of an eye. It kind of irritates me that Windows Mobile doesn't allow you at least the OPTION of doing so. It's particularly annoying if you're connected to a speaker and can't get 3g as there's a constant noise going off. I also think it can't be great for your balls having that connection constantly active! It's not HTC's fault though, just I think a result of Windows Mobile being inherently quite archaic...perhaps Windows have just overlooked it.
There's a great free app HERE to tweak the WinMo connections for individual apps. It's a must have for me.

This really isn't a problem, I've seen N95's that retain their connection at all time (and some that don't) and to be honest it just makes your handset a little quicker.
WMLongLife is the nuts. You need it.
Thanks for the link, I pay per minute on my connection (rather than data transferred) so an open connection is not good for my bank balance
Hi
Firstly hello, I'm new Here. Nice to meet you all.
I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy i5500 (Europa) and I'm having some really annoying problems with the WIFI. The device connects okay initially but then after a little while it loses the connection and then refuses to connect again. The only way to re-connect the phone to the WIFI network is to turn the router off and then on again.
I don't have this problem with any other devices in the house only this one. I previously had a T-Mobile Pulse mini and that had the very same problem too so I'm wondering if this is a problem with Android rather than the handset itself? It seems weird that two completely different phones have the same issue?
I have scoured the forums and other sites online but I can't find a solution that works? Some have said to update android to version 2.2 but when I try to update via Kies it says "No update available".
Firstly is there anyway to actually update to the new version yet? And if so is this likely to fix the problem? Sorry for so many questions but your help is greatly appreciated.
sorry wrong information :s
re: wifi fix!
Hi,
I bought the Samsung Galaxy Europa I5500, an Android phone, yesterday, and I basically wasted £10 of credit on PAYG (Pay-As-You-Go) before I realised and solved the problem.
The first problem with Android is wifi power management. This drops your connections and it's not a terribly smart thing for Android to do. The solution is to turn off power management.
What I did was install the following apps, and it worked.. I'm not sure which one of them in particular fixed it to be honest:
Wi-fi Keep Alive
Wifi Fixer
Wifi OnOff
Wifi Reassociate
WifiPowerSavingOff
Wifi ReEnabler
To those on PAYG, make sure to download APNdroid, add it as a widget to the desktop and click it so it turns red. For those who got an update and can't see APNdroid any more, just reinstall it. The wifi connection will still work with APNdroid running.
Android constantly connects to the internet, so if you're not a monthly contract with a higher threshold before data costs much, it's best to either get on one or download APNdroid to stop apps connecting to the net through GPRS/EDGE/3G. Wifi will continue to work.
My wifi has been working on-demand ever since, and I just tap a widget on the desktop to turn it off to save battery. It's a beautiful phone and definitely worth the £90 handset cost + £10 topup.. (haha). Otherwise Android is perfect, bar the occasional sluggishness (the Nokia XpressMusic/5230 was worse, in my experience!) because at least on Android you know that it's just busy because the CPU is slow, and you don't have to force-quit most apps unlike on Nokia firmware. (I liked the Nokia 9300 but that was years ago). It was a waste of £10 for me BUT
I hope this helps everyone!

Thanks for the tip (APNdroid) I have updated mine to OS TO 2.2 and it works very nicely
I have found with this phone though if you press hold the power button, a menu comes up, the 1st option is "Mobile Network" if you tap this you can disable the GPRS, this works great, but does not confirm this as a display like APNdroid (unless you press and hold the power button again to confirm).
I hope this makes sense!
The other bonus with the mobile network disable or APNdroid is that ad supported games etc will not show ads
Thanks again
HELP!!

none of these worked for my galaxy mini i installed Wi-fi Keep Alive, Wifi Fixer, Wifi OnOff, Wifi Reassociate, WifiPowerSavingOff, Wifi ReEnabler none of them worked also wifipowersavingoff gave me an error that it can't find system/wifi/wlan_cu file to turn off the power saving for wifi, please need someone to tell me how to fix this problem for mini.
hey guys i do used these programs to try to force my wifi not to sleep but when i got disconnected from the know network i am connected to i found that i were able to connect to another router so how come it is on sleep or there is something wrong with my galaxy mini and same time i am able to connecto to another router that makes the problem is with the router not with the mobile so any ideas to fix a NetGear router?
hi
Im running the stock JK6 and rooted.
when Im running e.g. the liveview app my phone keeps some kind of freezing after a few minutes, first I tought it is app related but now I revieved my OBD2 scanner for my car and its just the same with the app "torque".
is this a hardware related problem or something wrong with this ROM.
did a HR several times and reflashed the ROM.
Edit: I noticed when bluetooth recieve or send data I cant get any other wireless date like on wifi or on radio.
please help
Seems to be a one time event with the data problem but the main thing keeps annoing me
Have you tried pulling the battery waiting 60 seconds placing the battery back in the phone and then rebooting?
Eh no cause on the galaxy tab the battery cant be removed

I don't Know, but if you have a Bluetooth PAN connection to the internet, then it should be not possible to have another connection to the internet. IP routing to the gateway would be confused if you could.
There are tools that "group" several separate internet connections into one virtual one.
no Im not using a bt PAN to connect the inet, only normal bluetooth data usage
Push
Just only me who is facing this annoing problem?
Same problem with OBD2 :s disable GPS reduc freeze loop. But not fully (30 minutes). Next time i will turn off Data conection.
Every time i've freeze now i see torque try reconnect to OBD2, seem like BT of SGT turned off or time out
I am having the same problem. As long as I have bluetooth turned on, it will hang the Tab within 30 min. All bluetooth connections are definitely gone. Turning off the bluetooth won't help. The only way is to reboot and never turn bluetooth on.
BTW, I have tried connecting LiveView or a normal bluetooth headset. Both cause the same problem.
I am on JK2.
It seems it is bluetooth driver conflicting with any other data connections.
Did a further testing. Disabled Wifi, but doing data communication via 3G network while turning bluetooth on. The tab hangs in a few minutes. Found a process called 'btld' sucking up all the CPU circle.
Any ideas what 'btld' is?
Thought this should not be a hardware problem because bluetooth works fine when all data connections are off and Wifi/3G data works fine when bluetooth is off. It must be some sort of default setting isn't correct. If this is the case, then root would be a must before manually tuning any parameters.
Found root cause. It is actually the SonyEricsson LiveView software causing troubles. After removing, everything goes well.
Checked on SonyEricsson's web site, it seems Froyo is yet to be supported.
try to use WO Webcam B-Lite out of market, you can open a bt connection by pressing activate and then while running, close via taskmanager, voila the freeze begun
I've got galaxy Tab and galaxy S, and torque badly freezes the devices almost every time I exit the application. It cannot be an hardware fault since I use lot of bluetooth devices and always 3g connected, never had issues. Just with torque, and I don't have any "sony liveview" thing.
Reading on the comments of Torque it seems that also other devices have the same freeze issue (especially a phone called "Evo 4G"). Many months ago I sent a mail to the developer explaining the bug but he bumped me away replying that the app is tested and working on GalaxyTab (and obviously it's not true, or he did some mistake in testing). Now lots of people with this Evo 4G are complaining and the developer is trying to fix. let's hope..
