Windows CE 5.0, will be available on July 9.

Software giant Microsoft will announce at its developer's conference Monday that the next version of its operating system for embedded devices, Windows CE 5.0, will be available on July 9.
The company is also allowing licensees for the first time to ship products incorporating changes they've made to the source code for CE 5.0 without having to share those modifications with Microsoft, partners or competitors. Previously code-named "Macallan", CE 5.0 will include improvements to networking performance, Direct3D mobile support for better gaming, and technology to remotely monitor device performance

Microsoft confirms no Windows Phone 7 for HD2, other upgrade details

Two days ago, Neowin entertained the posibility of the HTC HD2 getting a Windows Phone 7 Series upgrade. However, Microsoft has officially shot this down. Pocket-lint has received word from Microsoft's Oded Ran that there are no plans to upgrade the HD2. Not only that, but even devices made from here onward that meet WP7S requirements won't necessarily be upgraded either. However, all phones that come with WP7S loaded will be able to receive future OS upgrades.
"We've received many questions about the upgradability of HTC HD2 and we currently do not have plans to update the HTC HD2 to Windows Phone 7 Series... For Windows Phone 7 Series we are enforcing a strict set of hardware requirements to ensure a consistently great experience for end-users and developers... we cannot confirm that Windows Mobile 6.5 phones that satisfy those requirements will be upgradeable”
Ron, who is the head of consumer marketing, continued to stress the role Windows Mobile 6.5 (aka Starter Edition) as being an integral part of the Windows Mobile lineup. More WinMo 6.5 phones are expected to ship in the coming months.
"Windows Mobile 6.5 represents a significant part of the portfolio family that is Windows Phones. With over 50 phones available around the world today, it offers customers the freedom to choose from among the widest selection of device form factors and price points."

Thanks, but did you not see my thread about this already 16 pages strong in this very forum???
Couldn't you just post this in one of the thousands threads we have in regards to this same topic?
Can a Mod close this please and request the information copied into an already substantial thread?
Thanks.

MeeGo + LiMo = Tizen OS

Intel announced MeeGo's death, now they will develop Tizen OS from MeeGo an LiMo (two good project but never finished...)
I'm sure someone here will try to port Tizen OS let's wait...
MeeGo was a great project but it was not well supported by Intel....
We will se, maybe our devs will do some miracle, and then "Tizen OS" will be usable in hd2

I hope so, I might even try to do it myself ( since I was unable to do meego's, it always gave me an error somehow. )
And hopefully, it will be full of life
soo hey! you should try ! and give feedback quickly as soon as it possible !
I do not know why they keep doing this to Maemo. First it was to Meego, then it is to Tizen. Seriously, you will find the same problem with Tizen... not enough support from the foundation and no device that will push its development up. Unless Bada ends up with Tizen, don't expect much from the SDK which will only be released in Q1 of 2012, the earliest. I suspect it is going to be Meego all over again, lack of drivers developed because there is no device committed to the OS, etc.
Sigh... Don't get your hopes up for 2011 for this to be on HD2, or even on 2012. Let's hope the N9's Meego version would be useful for dev work on the HD2.

of course for Tizen OS (if ever will be finished) we have to wait summer 2012
n9 meego is not the intel one (meego 1.1/1.2), it's like an other system, and it's available only for 1 phone, with different hw from hd2, so i think it's impossible to port meego from N9 nokia done a great work with N9, and MeeGo is now dead, what a shame...
i think we have to wait a new Linux OS based that runs on snapdragon phones...

Somehow this seems interesting to read concerning Nokia and Linux: http://mynokiablog.com/2011/09/29/l...power-future-nokia-feature-phones-meego-lite/
Only Time can tell what will happen!
Tizen Alpha source is released along with SDK.
I'm looking forward to this one!
To my eyes now, Tizen SO it seems another hilariously short aventure that will be dead in a year.
Alphas, betas, ideas....We want some think real and continuous.

Ubuntu dev preview for Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 coming next week

In January, Canonical teased a version of the Ubuntu software for Galaxy Nexus smartphones would be released sometime in February.
The new operating system was announced just before CES, revealing Canonical's intent to bring the full range of desktop capabilities to compatible smartphones.
Canonical has primarily used the Galaxy Nexus as its test device thus far, and it wasn't that shocking to learn a developer version of Ubuntu would be handed out so soon.
However, the developer just revealed a version of Ubuntu for Nexus 4 would arrive with the Galaxy Nexus edition, which comes as a bit of a nice surprise.
Preview of promise
Set to arrive on Feb. 21, the touch developer preview of Ubuntu for both Nexus smartphones will provide images and open source code for more savvy users to mess around with while they wait for a completed version.
The idea is to give Ubuntu enthusiasts and developers a chance to see what the OS has to offer, and give an early lead on potential app creation for the smartphone software.
Canonical will also release tools to help users flash their existing devices to the developer preview, which would allow them to stay up to date with the most current version.
Attendees of Mobile World Congress can bring their Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 smartphones to the Canonical booth, where the developer will flash the devices themselves.
Additionally at MWC, Canonical will have a variety of Ubuntu devices on display (including a possible tablet), though the actual proprietary phones aren't expected to arrive until October.
"Our platform supports a wide range of screen sizes and resolutions. Developers who have experience bringing up phone environments will find it relatively easy to port Ubuntu to current handsets," said Canonical's Pat McGowan in a statement.
"We look forward to adding support for additional devices for everyday testing and experimentation."
The group has also created downloadable app design guidelines, giving potential developers the power to create for the full range of Ubuntu platforms.
Though iOS and Android have dominated the market thus far, there's plenty of room for a possible third option as Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10 have yet to assert themselves in the marketplace.
Whether that OS is Ubutnu will largely depend on how quickly and easily users are able to assimilate the open source software.

is the Os available for Lumia 625

hi
i just got a nokia lumia 625 and i have read many articles on the jolla os being ported on nokia devices is this possible for my phone if so how pls i realy want to use the OS
thanks in advance:good::laugh:
Sailfish is not ported to any phone. It is not available to public before Jolla releases their phone. And the ui is closed source.
Windows phones are so tightly locked, that I dont think it is possible to run other os on Nokia Lumias.
