I know that sliding the switch between the dot and the flower switches to macro mode. Is this created by some mechanism in the housing or does the switch actually change something in the black camera device?

Yes, i want to know if anyone else have that problem? Well i live in Turkey so i couldn`t try it on 3G network, but when i use coolcamera app. i see that the picture is very very fuzzy (i couldnt even understand where it shows on the screen) and it is rotated 90degreed as default. Is that because of the under quality front camera that htc uses on hermes or is it that my front camera is broken?
It is (both the quality and the rotation).
The pictures shouldn't be completely fuzzy. It should be relatively sharp depending on the lighting. The issue is probably the focus mode the lense is in.
On the back of the phone, next to the camera lense, is a little slider with a dot and a picture of a flower. You might have it in Macro mode. Adjust the slider so that it is next to the Dot instead of the Flower. Macro mode is for taking pictures of up close objects.
--EDIT:
I just re-read your post and noticed you are talking about the front camera, not the back camera. Sorry!
A little cuestion.
The camera frontal,is only for videocall? It's possible for photo?
Thanks
You can make photos with front camera, but you need software, which can do it.
Try this one:

select: settings -> sensor -> front
I donĀ“t know why, but my front camera is rotated by 90 degree
mines is showing black screen
hi, i am using vodafone v1605, I installed cool camera, when I click on the front sensor option , it gives me black screen.
But it works well for my friend who has I mate jasjam.
Please anybody help me with this issue. Is my camera has some broken circuit or what ?
have you tried to make a video call? if that doesnt work, your camera is probably broken...
CoolCamera'll enable you to use your front camera
Seeing as the HD has no flash, Apple have a neat trick on the webcam Apple LCD home screens when you take a photo of yourself the LCD goes full bright and goes all white for a split second whilst it takes the photo. This acts as a flash substitute.
Could a similar utilisation be found or made for the HD, perhaps a script which can turn up the brightness on screen, white out your screen and then activate shutter release then return settings to normal. This would obviously only help you if your using self camera - rather than the 5megapixel camera.
Might be a useful too though, if there is a way to activate the camera outside of the normal HTC tool for doing so.
This trick could also be applied to other self facing camera types.
Hey guys
Today while using my phone camera i have been testing its optical zoom by covering different lense and at last i can conclude that its optical zoom is not working .When.i click 2x zoom it just digitally zooms into but thus problem was not there when i bought the phone.
can anyone please confirm that problem or is it just me who is facing that problem.

i thought the same mate but there are a couple of ways to test it, first it will only switch to the telefoto lens if the lighting is perfect so point it out of the window and check, second if portrait modes works so does the telefoto lens and lastly choose manual mode then you can switch to the telefoto lens no matter what the conditions. i hope this helps mate
A bit more complicated.
The tele lens works only in good light conditions or if you choose it manually. So maybe it was simply in darker environment. If you want to enforce it, simply switch to manual mode and select the other lens.
On the other hand, with low light conditions tele lens won't make too good pics.
Xiaomi mi a1 optical zoom
Hi, I have the same problem. In camera, when I choose 2x which is optical zoom it zooms but I think it is digitally because if I hide the second camera it doesn't happen something. It is the same so the second camera doesn't work as optical zoom. But, if I switch manual mode and I chose the tele lens it swithes to the second camera so when I hide the main camera it works and if I hide the second camera it doesn't work. That means that you can choose the second camera which is 2x optical zoom by manula mode. I am disappointed because it doesn't do optical zoom whith the simple camera mode. You have to choose to manual and the second camera doesn't show so nice colours as the main. So please fix it if it's possible.:good:

I set zoom to 3x and move phone closer towards the object and then move it back.
I guess it switches between lenses but what about that change of the quality?
Can anybody with OnePlus 8 Pro do the same test? Is it expected or is it an issue with my device?
As you get closer to an object your phone is smart and it automatically switches to your macro lens. When you move close it's automatically assuming you want a high-quality close up picture
