nope, already tried it and it refuses to install the usb driver. im getting really frustrated over here.

I was able to install the 'adb2' drivers that dzo posted on win7 x64. Check the new sourceforge site downloads.

Manual for how to flash a rom in Vista

O.k. for everyone who's traying to Flash in Vista
Donwload the files from this link: http://rapidshare.com/files/38401715/Manual_and_files.rar.html
and extract them in a new created folder like for example your desktop. Extract the USB Modem Vista in a different folder on your desktop (easy to find)
- put your device in bootloader mode (press and hold power, light and softreset button)
- connect the MDA to your computer.
- open computer management (devicemanager) in vista, rightclick computer in startmenu and select manage (see step 1)
- in computermanager open devicemanager (step 2)
- follow step 3 and 4.
After step 4 browse to the folder where you extracted the USB Modem Vista and choose next.
It will install the active sync drivers to vista and you will be able to flash.
I attached a exit bootloader file to exit bootloader mode (you can also install drivers without flashing the device)
YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO EXIT BOOTLOADER MODE!!!! EVEN BEVORE FLASHING!!!!
If you do it properly it will be done in less than 4 minutes.
Good luck.

Nope. In Vista with current drivers and updates the driver cannot be updated to an older one; neither in bootloader mode (uknown USB device) nor in standard mode (PocketPC).

Don't hate if you're a noob With Vista
Download my package and see for yourself mate!
I run Vista Business for almost 6 months and I'm flashing trough Vista for quite a long time now. Even now after upgrading the Windows Mobile Device Center.
So as far as I know your post is based on nonsence!!!
As I've said many many times, you have to do it exacly the way I wrote it.
Pro to noob
for your info, I've been using Vista for about two years.
building and flashing ROMs for 3 years now.
I do not argue with possibility to flash ROM in Vista.
I do argue with possibility to use your instruction universaly in all standard Vista installations.
I've seen and tried both possibilities myself.
Universal in boot mode:
"The best driver software for your device is already installed.
Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.
Uknown Device."
Have you ever seen this message? I doubt.
I've seen that message when you don't do it correctly.
I'm not going to discuss with you if it works or not. And as far as being a pro... been working at microsoft for 6 years. Cheers mate! and good luck flashing building or whatever it is that you do.
Nonesence Again.

I was using vista since beta1, and i have been using WMDC since its beta stages. And i do have to confirm the method with updating your drivers with AS ones works Perfectly. Try again, but dont search for drivers, update it manualy, AND, dont forget to untick ALLOW USB CONNECTION in WMDC before pluging in a bootloaded device. That really does work a charm.
But what about Vista 64 version? This driver don't want to install on Vista 64...

adb "error: device not found" with Haykuro builds

I tried installing the latest builds of Haykuro into my G1, they install fine however I lose adb I keep getting "error: device not found" when I revert to the latest JesusFreak build it starts working again just fine, any ideas why? Thank you in advance.
Sometimes adb.exe stay open in windows process close it reboot your phone and plug it again all is good.
did this fix it?
If not i updated to the new spl and got the new drivers and now adb works fine.
I am using Windows 7 64bit... I could get ADB working one time, and two mins later not at all.
I found this "tip" in a prior thread and I cannot remember who to credit (sorry).... but this worked for me last night without a problem....
When you reboot... hit F8, and scroll all the way down and disable Digital Driver Signing.
After I booted ADB was working great.
Thank you all
Thank you for all your responses I will try them tonight =]

Google Maps, Facebook and ADB

Hello All.
I've had my UK, T-Mobile G1 for quite a while now. I have rooted it and it is running the latest CyanogenMod recovery image and ROM. I also have Apps2SD set up on my 8GB SD card, on a 512MB ext partition. This was all working fine until the problems below occurred...
I'm having some problems with several apps and ADB.
My PC runs Windows 7, 64 bit, and I can't seem to find a driver for the G1's ADB. I'm probably being incredibly stupid, but I just can't find one. I have used one before on Vista, where I had to set some boot options, but I'm not too sure / happy about doing that on my nicely functioning Windows 7. And as my friend once said; "You mess around with windows, then windows will mess around with you"...
But, anyway, I can't seem to get ADB working, if someone could either send me a link to the drivers or guide me through it, I'd be grateful...
Also, it may be due to me running CyanogenMod, but if I try to update the Facebook app, it downloads the app, and then when it tries to install, gives me the error "Installation Unsuccessful - Incompatible Update".
And with the Google Maps app, it says "Installation unsuccessful - Package file was not signed correctly". This may be due to me trying to get the hacked version of the app to get the Google Maps Navigation working in the UK, but I couldn't get that to work, so I uninstalled it and Nav Launcher, and now when I try to update from the Market it gives me that error.
I've seen a guide online with ADB commands, but as I have no access to ADB, I'm a tad screwed. I've tried runnign the commands in the Terminal Emulator in the phone, which does approximately nothing whatsoever.
So, can anyone give me any guidance on any of my Android problems?
Thanks in advance - Ethan

In that case, do you remember where you obtained the driver from? I would love a link, or a zip file or something...
I'm on Vista x64 SP2 and I can use ADB just fine. You just need to download the SDK and then get the USB driver through there. It used to come included, but now you need to use the ADV and SDK manager and download the drivers as an SDK Component through there.
After that, make sure your phone is set to USB Debugging mode and plug it in then point windows to the new drivers. If it doesn't want to install the new drivers, you might need to remove the old ones first. I had to use USB Deview (DL link at bottom of page) and removed all installed HTC drivers. After that I plugged my G1 back in, pointed it at the newly downloaded drivers and all was well.
I'm running adb/fastboot/android sdk on win7 64b ultimate. The drivers are included in the sdk download. Once you download the sdk, make sure you have java installed. (I had to install JRE and JDK to get it to work properly, not sure if this was needed) Anyhow, when you have the sdk downloaded, run the sdk setup program. Go to settings and check the box for force update (unsure of the exact terminology used there) then go to available updates and your drivers are the last option on the list.

[Q] Windows 8 Developer Preview in HTC Shift

I know... our umpc is a bit older now, but i'm trying to give a new chance for it, now with Windows 8 Developer Preview. I got a relative sucess... I'm running this os, with tablet pc input working, with snapvue with 3g and wi-fi acess. But i'm facing a big problem with the video driver. I tried reinstall many times, but i can't get it work ok. Anybody got sucess with the video driver?
Sorry for my bad english.... i'm brazilian...
How did you get window 8 to install. I try and it said the shift did not meet the hardware rquirement.
I copy the iso on to a tumbdrive and mount it on a virtual drive for the installation process.
Peter
I downloaded the iso from de MS site. I used the USB image creator which is used to install the windows 7 in notebook. Restarted the machine, press f10 and enter in the setup... my htc is basic 40 gb hd and stock 1gb of ram...
camargomaia: i think it's possible, Windows 7 works fine and Windows 8 are (not for first look) still similar. Tomorrow i will try it, now i got two pieces of htc shift. Did you success with install all of default Vista drivers? Touchscreen is Working? thanks

Every is working, and the speed is very good. The only trouble is the video driver. In the process of setup our shift try hi-resolutions, that it not support, and this causes a instant reboot, similar that we had when trying to install the windows 7, with the aero enabled.
I thing that problem may be here, the windows 8 doesn´nt have the classic theme (windows 2000 theme)...
Let´s try to make this work, our old pc can beat the ipads, in some specs...
My Shift works fine now! I downloaded the drivers from the intel site and now everything is working! Our PC can run Windows 8!
Can you post a link for the driver you used?
What other drivers do I need to download before installing.
Is snapvue working?
Thanks

Good friday for everybody! Greeting from Brazil!
I posted a guide I wrote up in the Shift Development forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17602535
The guide includes links to all the drivers I have used and the process I followed to get Windows 8 running on the Shift from a totally clean install.
As with camargomaia's parallel experiences, once all the drivers are installed the Shift very usable in Windows 8. Even in it's stock RAM limited state.

That is the same driver I used. The driver is also good if want to run Metro or the desktop at 1152*864 (so all the Metro apps that need a minimum of 1024*768 will run).

Phone not recognised in MAGLDR modus

Hi,
I am trying to install my first ROM but none of the drivers are working for me, I have Win7 64bit is that the reason why? Does anyone know a work around as I don't have access to a 32bit version
Would be great if someone could help as I'm dying to get my first rom on this phone!
Thanks
it also says when I try to flash that rapi.dll is missing, however I have searched around and it is apparently in either ActiveSync or WMDC however I cannot find either of these that work on Win7 64bit
So install x86 version in second partition (dual boot), then you will be certain that everything will work.
I have x86 not x64 so I can not guarantee :/

don't actually open it it just installs what you need.
unrar and place the rapitools in the same folder as the rom installer.
I have windows 7 64bit Ultimate and I have not had a issue installing Roms to several different phones

Hey not a problem I have seen this asked in several threads and pretty much all the answers was just install Win 32bit instead. For me that was not a option to basically lose most of my functionality just to use one program. Either it works at a friends, I find my own solution , or it was just a screw it guess I ain't flashing.
