a really noob question about opera browsing some websites - HD2 General

hey guys
I am not that experienced with web browsers, but when i go to websites where there is a press down menu to give me options to chose from, I simply can't do that, and chose my choice. Is that because of flash issues with opera, I also tried IE both can't allow me to choose from the down menu, the borwser just comes to a next page that I intentionally don't want to look at.
Any solution guys is really appreciated

Full website browsing?

To make this short, sweet, and to the point: if someone can tell me how to view only 'full sites' with the browser that would be great. Also, without using an outside browser app. Devs please feel free to delete when felt necessary. I tried a search but didn't come up with anything....
Thanks

I suggest using dolphin browser, go into settings > user agent > desktop. I'm not sure about the default browser, haven't used it in a while, but I know a lot of times at the bottom of a site it will have the option to view full site.
Interesting it looks like the feature was removed. I remember on 1.6 you could switch between Android, iPhone, or Desktop.
I believe that was just on the custom browser made by Loccy(sp?). It was based off the regular browser source code, but was still basically custom made.
True. I guess that I had been using ROMs for so long that I had forgotten that the original didn't have that. Guess I will just have to wait a little longer. But some on the sites do have the option but some of them just load straight back to the mobile view on I select it. But no biggy.
MODs please feel free to delete this thread whenever. We can leave it at 'that option will probably be put into a future ROM'.

Try Steel, good browser, has user agent Desktop option.

Browser that actually stores pages in cache, does one exist?

My favorite browser so far is Dolphin, with the stock android browser running a close second. But, the only problem with both browsers is that they don't seem to utilize much of the cache when it comes to moving backwards and forwards through web pages.
For example, let's say I'm on the General forum of N1 on XDA. I click into a thread, then when I want to go back to the general forum. Instead of taking a split second to access whatever's in cache, it'll go through the whole process of downloading all the content again.
Can it not do what our computer browsers do and just read it straight off the cache?
Opera Browser does that.. is it worth the switch is the question.
You know, I always wondered why the stock browser kept such a large cache, but never seemed to load pages from it... not that I am giving you any assistance with your question.. more like adding one of my own.
Anyone know why this is?
Sorry it double posted me...

Desktop browsers do the same thing. It's just a lot faster.
There's no way to load a webpage 100% from cache.
I open new windows/tabs 95% of the time. And that's BOTH on my phone and on my PC. I rarely use the same tab, and have been middle clicking etc for years.
I hope cyanogen can add this functionality, possible with an adjustable time frame. Say to only poll server side if it's been more than 5 minutes since you last loaded the page.
It's frustrating having to wait for a page to reload like the subscription list page.
what is stopping you from loading pages in new tabs like paul was saying. that seems like it would accomplish what you want.
Just to clarify because this may not be common knowledge...
Opening a link in a new tab is activated by long pressing on the link

I used to do that on the desire rom when I had it loaded, because switching tabs was easier and faster on the HTC broswer.
Default browser is kinda of a pain to change tabs, and the press/hold to get to the open new link shortcut is one second to long and moves into cumbersome territory.
I browse a little different on the phone than I do on the desktop. I've been on opera's nuts for years since they first introduced tabs to the world. =D

HD Touch HD Questions

Hi, I've owned this phone for a couple of weeks now and though id give it a good test and check forum answers for as much as I could before asking but still have a few questions
1. Whenever I get a text or email, even if i have read it on the quickview (first screen) it will remain as unread until i click on it and bring up the reply screen (messages) or the full inbox view (emails) can they be registered as "read" automatically without doing the above?
2. Is the endless pursuit of Flash player actually worth the effort, I've had opera 9.5, 9.7, 10 including flash lite 3, used the fixoperaflash application following word for word and still dont get flash on websites. My latest try is 9.7 and fixoperaflash and I am yet to see a working flash video. Only difference is when I go to you tube now and click on the video it loads the inbuilt youtube app and somehow forgets what video I was wanting to look at, also the "bookmarks" button has screwed up now and takes me onto the net where it crashes and wont allow exit.
3. Can I deny networks, sometimes It will come up with a list of networks im not interested in seeing or it trying to connect to eg. I have two open networks at work, one works fine for wi-fi the other doesnt. Sometimes I catch it connected to the none working network and have to manually connect to the one I want
Answers to any of these questions would be much appreciated
Thanks
Stew

[Q] Why won't images load on most websites?

I'm new to tablets. I'm finding that images don't load on most websites, including Facebook, Netflix, You Tube, Comedy Central, even the App Shop (the screen shots don't load). Instead on most websites there's a little square with a question mark in every spot where an image should be.
This is the case whether I use the browser (large earth button pre-installed on the tablet) or the Apps like Facebook, Netflix and You Tube.
I'm new to all things mobile. Is there something I failed to install or activate to allow these web images to load? Many websites are almost useless without the images. No photos on Facebook... no Movie pictures on Netflix... no You Tube video images on You Tube.
I've tried switching between the option "PC" versus "Mobile" on the settings menu and this doesn't seem to make a difference. I don't really know what these options should do anyway.
This forum has been a lifesaver. Thanks for any expertise you can offer.
When you are in the browser, tap the options box in the top right corner, tap settings, tap advanced, check "load images".
Tap "thanks" if this cures your issue.
Still no images, ideas?
Hi, thanks for the tip about tapping Show Images in the settings menu, but I still get no images in most sites.
Do you? If you go to Amazon or Netflix or Facebook or You Tube from the browser button (or any other way for that matter) do you see the images, i.e. does the website look and function for you the way it's supposed to?
Thanks for coming to my aid, I am a newbie.
Do other computers on your network get images?
My laptop loads web images/pics but not my tablet...
Hi, thanks for asking. My laptop, as well as my husband's netbook, load images/pics on websites just fine, but not my new TPT.
Am I understanding that this is not a common problem? Do other Thinkpad Tablet users see websites just fine?
I get little squares with question marks every place an image should be on most websites...
Thanks for any advice.

Do you suspect the home firewall?
Yes, I just wanted to make sure there's not something along the network connection that is filtering the traffic. I have seen similar results on desktop web browsers when a utility like Peerblock is running and set to filter HTTP on that PC.
Do you have the flash player installed? Get it from the market. At least some of the blank frames will be filled in.

Did you mean in the stock android browser, Chrome, another 3rd party browser? You'll probably need to be a bit more specific to get a helpful answer.

Solariis,
Thanks -- so I used to know that the download location was a function of the browser
lets see, best I can tell:
Chrome: /storage/emulated/0/Download (internal card) I have not found a way to change
Opera: Weak choices--none are external card this is why I looked so clueless I had used this for a long time exclusively
Dolphin: nice clean easy choices
Internet (defualt): Choice of Internal or External
Thanks a lot! if its not too obvious can I get a clean choice with Opera and/or Chrome ? I guess I'm like a lot of people I like parts of all of them
and have resolved to pick one and live with it
at any rate you have helped me a lot...

I use Boat browser and this one has the ability to change the default directory, similar to Dolphin. Stock browser allows you to choose internal or external, as you mentioned.
As far as Chrome, I have yet to see any method available for changing the default download directory. I haven't tried Chrome Beta yet but I haven't found any reviews stating that this change was implemented with the Beta release. So, unless there's another way to modify the app's files using root, I doubt there's any way to change this in Chrome.
With Opera Mobile, you'll need to do the following:
1.) Enter "opera:config" in the address bar (without quotes)
2.) Scroll down to User Prefs, press to expand
3.) Scroll down to Download Directory, enter the location you'd like to set it to here.
4.) Scroll to the very bottom and hit Save.

Hey Solariis--I never could get the opera method to work--what was originally in there what something I didn't recognize (...data/data... blah blah blah and what I entered in didn't work. most important though, is that opera has been upgraded to --ver 14-- surprise! Funny thing is I still can't find it.
Thanks again and please let me know if you see anything...

Did you try entering /storage/extSdCard/ in the Download Directory box?
