how to install software - Shift General

i just bought a shift i install softwares via sd card but certain software like office my laptop wont allow the copying of all of it on sd card.is there any other way were i could connect the shift to my laptop and install softwares from laptop.can the shift play direct dvd files with out converting because i tryed with power dvd its start to play for 2secs then the shift restarts.i played it from sd card

You could use a USB memory stick instead of a memory card.
You could buy a USB networking kit.
You could use the supplied ethernet attachment and connect it into your home network.
You could buy an evternal DVD/CD drive and copy stuff onto a DVD-RW.
You could wirelessly connect the shift into your home network.

Problem copying over large file to 2 gig card.

Hey, I'm having a problem copying a 300 megabyte wmv file from my computer to my 2 gig stick. Whenever it gets to about 5~10% goes back to 0 and starts again, does anyone have this problem? Or, does anyone know what's the matter?
Thanks!
BTW, my card is a 2 gig MiniSD on my Cingular 8125.
i havent tried this.. dont use my phone much for music and video, mostly just all data... but is it going through activstink? if so is it converting the file? and 300meg file going through the phone takes a while, i would try using your mini sd adapter and a card reader and connect it to your pc and just copy it over that way
Oh, thank you for the reply, I'll try to directly transfer it from PC to stick instead of through activesync. No, it says conversion (none) so I assume it is not converting. I will see if I can plug the stick into my computer.
Btw, when I remove my stick should I power off my 8125? Almost everything is installed into my stick.
Edit: Nope, , there is no place on my computer for me to plug my stick directly into.
no need to power off... and you should have gotten an SD adapter for your mini SD card. after putting the mini sd card into the SD adapter then would need a SD card reader which are very inexpensive to acquire if you dont have one already. then plug the reader into the computer, the computer should recognize it as a removable storage device. just drag and drop...
Alright, thank you! Yes it did come with an adapter. Is there anyway to copy large files through activesync?
you should be able to.. but with my experience it just takes forever... i copied my iguidance map for a friend one time and its 600meg... took 30 minutes to complete. I only copy large files via the adapter nowadays
Yeah, I don't mind waiting 15-30 minutes, it's just that it resets itself and I have no idea if I can ever get it on my phone via activesync.
Edit: I'm trying a different method, right clicking the file and going to send to.. then selecting device, then they prompt me to choose the destination within the device, so far so good. I'll edit again if it's successful or not.
SUCCESS!!
WM5Storage
I use WM5Storage instead, for large files. Works better and faster, than ActiveSync.

USB data transfer speed?

Hi guys,
I currently have a XDA Orbit and I'm thinking about buying the Touch2. The problem with the Orbit is the combination of poorly accessible microSD card and veeery slow data transfer rate via USB. Unless this hasn't been improved dramatically in the Touch2, it would be no buy for me.
Does anyone have some MB/min data?
It depends on the connection mode choosen. When choosing to connect it as a "disk", copying a 142MB folder takes about 35s, so it gives about 4MB/s. It probably also depends on the SD card speed and number of files to transfer.
I use already for some yrs "tnyynt tune up". Install attached CAB. Also your PC has faster and slower USB ports, select the right one.
Assume you connect storage card directly to PC and not via phone because that goes much slower.....
Have used several HTC devices (with Mega software) and speed was never a problem.

FAT32 File Limitation

I have many movies that I want to put on my tablet to watch. Most are over 4 GB in size since their HD. You cant transfer them to the SD because of the FAT32 size limitation. Since Android doesn't recognize SD cards formatted to EXT3, you cant format the SD that way to allow the higher size file transfers.
I got myself an adapter on ebay so I could hook my portable 1TB drive to the tab. It connects the usb end of the tab cable and makes it into the micro usb end that goes into the drive. Only problem is that it didn't work. The tab doesn't put out any power to run the drive.
Is there an app or tweak that can be made to have the tab push power out to do this?

Doesnt matter because it doesnt work........
USB Host Adaptors do not put out power of any decent level on the TAB, this is not a software limitation as I understand it but actually a Hardware Limitation in the pinouts. Most USB Host/USB On The Go portable devices don't put out the sort of power required for a HDD.
At any rate, said device should work with an externally powered HDD, instead of a USB powered one.
Whether the videos are mkv or avi. You can get a splitter software.
Splitting is much faster than Transcoding. You can split your files within seconds and then copy them over.
Trust me. I know it's inconvenient, but it's just so stupid how manufacturers keep ignoring USB host.

[Q] Tablet is erasing data from USB devices

I think my A500 is erasing data from my external USB, I have noticed this twice.
The first was a 8gb stick - I put music on the USB from my PC, then put the USB in my tablet and played the files. The next time I went to use the USB, the tablet wouldnt recognise it. I put the USB in the PC and the PC didnt recognise it either.
Similar thing happened to my external hard drive (Seagate 500GB) - however I can see the drive and the folders that I had are still there, but there are no files (pictures/movies/music).
Any ideas? I have Acer looking into it.
I don't think that it is actually erasing it...
I have had some curious problems. I used to be able to use an external usb stick and move files back and forth. When I first got the tablet,I used the usb to test my 2tb drive and it worked. When Iplugged the drive into the computer again I was surprised to see nothing there!!! But then I got the message on Windows to fix the file system and it was ok after that.
I no longer use the external drive but I would like to see some answers here.

Transferring files over wifi and sd card transfers

I've been trying to transfer files to my external sd card with es explorer over wifi and also with usb from my pc. Every time the screen goes off I lose the connection and the transfer stalls and won't resume.
The card was formatted on the tablet, and is exfat. Windows doesn't recognize it and says it can't format it.
Any ideas?

More info would help us to help you.
What kind of pc, what OS, what adapter are you using for computer, what brand sd card, how big are the files, are you doing other tasks on the computer when transfering the files and have you tried reformatting on your tablet.
.
Try airdroid

Except for small files, I don't use ESFile Manager to transfer them, and for me it's just as easy to pop the MicroSD card out of the tablet and put it in a fast USB 3.0 card reader than connecting the tablet to my PC with its data cable at USB 2.0 speeds. I don't do this for my Note phone because I'd have to take my multi-layer Seidio case and and back cover off to access the MicroSD card, but with the tablet the card is more easily accessible.

How is your microSD formatted? NTFS or exFAT?
I am using windows XP, standard USB cables (that came with the device), large files (movies, tv shows) of over 10gigs some of them.
it may be something as simple as my usb port on the laptop, just wondering more about transfers stopping when the tablet goes to sleep?
air droid seems pretty neat, but 100mb limit per month?
You guys should check out Samsung Link. It allows you to access/transfer/stream content from any device it's running on from any Wi-Fi network. It also works over 3/4G.
Oh yeah, it's a 64gb adata micro sd

Windows XP will not support EX-FAT unless you have update (WindowsXP-KB955704-x86-ENU.exe) found here. 3.2 mb download http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19364 For 32 bit.

It's a Samsung 64GB SDXC card formatted exFAT. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a i7 based PC I just custom built, so it's USB 3.0 and very fast. I came from an old dual core Windows XP desktop PC (that I also built), so I know what you're feeling. Previously I would just sync or copy stuff over WiFi all the time without really noticing much of a speed difference over directly connecting my tablet/phone to my PC via a cable. But now whenever I can use my USB 3.0 card reader I do it because it's night and day different in terms of speed.
i reformatted it with windows, files are tranferring at ~13MB/s over USB2.0. Painful yes, but at lerast they are copying
i have yet to see if it works in the tablet after things are copied over. definitely easy to manage from within windows with teracopy pro, but would be nice if i could use es explorer over wifi on my home network and let the copies go overnight without waking up to failed transfers because the device went to sleep during the transfer....
.... Aaand now the tablet won't recognize the card. Should have formatted with the device, not the computer

thank you for the link.....XP recognized the card after installing the driver
i then formatted it exFAT and then i went ahead and copied over a couple 8 or 10gb files and a bunch of 1.5gb files. suddenly windows said the write delay failed and now i cant see the card in windows or the tablet.
this is getting off topic, but how do i now get anything to recognize the card? this is frustrating!

XP can return that error when moving large files esp. when you have write caching enabled. You could turn that off but it slows down you file cache.
I have also had errors in Windows 7 when moving to many large files at one time. I think the chip over heats as mine does get hot some times when I transfer large files in computer with adapter.
Can you see it in in windows - control panel/administrative tools/computer management/storage/
disk management.

HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - Format USB drives is my goto tool for a problem like this, but be very careful and make sure you selected the correct drive when and if you format. I have enclosed the tool, you can research it on the web if you like, search youtube.

Thanks for all your help today. I'll give it a go. If nothing else I'll just buy a new card. I'm off to Hawaii on Friday and I was hoping to have the card loaded up with media and ready to go by then.
