Syncing Calendar with .ICS Files - HD2 General

Hi all - got my HD2 three days ago and still tweaking bits and bobs as I see fit!
One of the things I haven't been able to work out is whether I can sync the calendar with my personally hosted .ICS calendar files? I host them on a personal FTP for shared use in Lightning/Thunderbird.
Is there any way at all of syncing them with my HD2? Whether it's a bit hacky and goes via Google Calendars or something else I don't really mind, as long as it works remotely.
Thanks in advance .

Argh, dropped off the first page already! Anyone?

i guess the google calendar is way to go. but it would be great if a XDA expert could post an a possible solution

I would like to see either HTC offer something to sync up to Yahoo calendar, or at least a third party app to sync up to Yahoo calendar myself!
Yahoo has now done away with the Yahoo GO! app, oddly enough only months after creating a "new" iphone App. Why does Yahoo always give Windows Mobile the finger?

Hi. I don't have a HD2, but in this period I am evaluating the purchase of a new WM smartphone, and I am searching info about my main requirements. One of them is just the sync with Outlook or (better) with Lighting/Thunderbird. Until now, I found that the best solution seems BirdieSync, http://www.birdiesync.com/features. Unfortunately it is not freeware, but it appears the most suitable for the task. I saw on the site that there is a full-functional demo, maybe you can try it.
Hope this helps.

Anything to synch to Yahoo Calendar?

Yahoo! Ical Sync
the new yahoo calendar beta has ical sync support, so if you can sync to ical you can sync to yahoo calendar beta....
"Can I sync with Live or Google Calendar?
Last Updated: March 02, 2010
Yes!
When you share your calendar with any user, that user will receive an email that will guide them through subscribing to your calendar.
Toward the bottom of that email, there will be a URL that looks like this:
ht[tp://calendar.yahoo.com/yahoo-id/XXXXXX/CalendarName.ics?id=001.
Anyone using a calendar that supports the iCalendar or .ics formats can use this URL to sync to your Yahoo! Calendar."

[REQUEST] Calendar Sync for Yahoo

I've tried everything, and there is no current way to sync WinMo's calendar with Yahoo's calendar (the new .ICS compatible beta).
I use Yahoo for my email, calendar, and notes and there is a shocking lack of integration with the WinMo ecosystem.
Is anyone up for the challenge to create an OTA sync tool between WinMo outlook calendar and yahoo's new calendar?
Contacts would be a great sync as well, but I'm just going to ask for one thing at a time!
Note: I've tried EVERYTHING available, and nothing works. Not Yahoo Sync w/Outlook, not Get Yahoo WinMo app, not Yahoo Go 2.0, etc....
Thanks!
Jon
I know my advice sucks...
But...
Try google calendar. You can even get free sync with active sync. I though, prefer nuevasync.com to sync my calendar.
It works amazing. I use it everyday.
I forgot to mention that, in an effort to sync my online with my mobile world, I made a huge attempt to move my web services to Google. Unfortunately, my experiment failed. I just could not get adjusted to Google Mail vs. Yahoo Mail. So, I went back to Yahoo after an earnest experiment.
Because of the great integration between Yahoo Mail & Calendar, I really can't move over to Google Calendar. I've even already asked Nuevasync to add Yahoo to their sync services!
Like I said... I've tried EVERYTHING, which is why I've requested new development. I'm thinking I cannot be the only "Yahoo with WinMo!"

Well... If yahoo cal supports and ics version to import to other calendars, you can add that to the calendar list on your google cal. And then use nuevasync to sync. But that would be one-way sync, so you couldn't make new appointments from your phone. But seriously. Try gmail, and gcal again. Then your problems would be over. They work amazing with activesync. And your only alternative is to wait until an new unstable beta service would arrive to yahoo, which might take som time.
Hi sblop,
I didn't want to overload my post, but when I said I tried EVERYTHING, I meant it! I tried adding Yahoo's ICS cal to Google cal, but the events come up as generic... no event details show up on Google Cal. So, that approach didn't work either.
While I'm at it, I also tried to add my Yahoo cal to my Live Calendar as well - no go.
You could therefore say that Yahoo's ICS is buggy. I don't know. I just know that I have been unsuccessful in linking it to other online calendars to-date.
Thanks,
Jon

Sorry.
Then I cant help you.
But good luck.
OK, I was wrong! I just checked my Google Cal with the Yahoo ICS connection, and some details are showing up. Others are "locked" and therefore show no details. This must be a setting Yahoo is automatically applying, so I need to manage that on the Yahoo side.
Presuming this connection continues to work, which is the best calendar sync for Google Cal? Nuevasync? Google ActiveSync?
Any info appreciated!
Thanks,
Jon

If you use google activesync service, your only able to sync one calendar at a time, which is quite annoying if you make one for work, and one for private matters etc. - I use nuevasync, and just selects which calendars I want to sync, and then it works. So I suddest nueva.
Update.... and bad news! The ICS-linked Yahoo calendar on Google Calendar shows up fine on the Google Cal screen, but it does not seem to include it in the sync process! So, the "linking" is display-only, not imported so that the Google ActiveSync can sync those ICS events!
Grrr.....
Update on the update.... Nuevasync does allow me to sync my ICS-linked calendar in Google Calendar. So, it looks like I kinda/sorta have what I'm looking for. Not as good as direct Yahoo sync (no contacts, for instance), but it's better than nothing.
Thanks for the great band-aid!
Jon
should look into seven beta will let you sync contacts email and calendar not sure about notes but it could be possible

Any word on an app to do OTA synching with Yahoo Calendar to WinMo?

Question about Google Calendar?

Hello, I am new to HTC mobile, I used to use Nokia N95 8G in last 2 years.
Just got a HTC touch HD within a week.
I just wonder
Is there any possible that I can synchronize Google Calendar with Blackstone?
I am appreciated with your help here.
Thx.
Have a nice day.
Regards,
iMrD
You have a lot of solutions to do that :
- Using Microsoft Office, you can sync it with Google Calendar with an official Google Sync app (available on Google website). Unfortunately, this app can only sync your main calendar.
- Using Thunderbird, there exists a nice (not free ) app which is BirdieSync. It allows you to sync every calendar in Thunderbird lightning or sunbird with your mobile phone. You just have to access with TB lightning or Sunbird your google calendars (with an extension, like Google Provider for Sunbird)
- If you do not want to use a desktop application, you can use the Google sync new feature which allows you to use Google Calendar as an Exchange server. Again, this way only syncs your main calendar.
- Last but not least, you can use nuevasync (nuevasync.com) service. This is like a bridge between Google Calendar and your mobile, using an exchange server. This is free (but for how long ?) because this is a beta application but I use it everyday without trouble. This make synchronization with Google Calendar very easy through a data connection.
I hope this will help you.
Here is the link to the google sync feature: http://www.google.com/mobile/winmo/
You can sync directly using activesync:
Add Server Source
Enter email address
Untick "attempt to detect Exchange server"
NEXT
Server address is m.google.com
NEXT
user name is your mail address again.
NEXT
uncheck e-mail and tasks
FINISH

OggSync
I use Ogg sync Pro which does multiple calendars and contacts, works great for me
Have to pay though for the Pro version

Here - look for "sync" on the original link.
http://www.google.com/mobile/winmo/sync.html
No download as such... you just need to add the correct setting via the activesync app on the phone itself... Detailed instructions can be found here... http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=56959&highlight=google+sync

HTC Calendar

Hi,
I'm currently impatiently awaiting the arrival of my HD2 from expansys. I'm just wondering about the calendar functionality. I've heard from a few places an HTC program is used instead of the default WinMo version. Is this capable of handling multiple google calendars? My wife and I like to share calendars to keep up on what's happening as life gets quite busy and this function on iPhone is very useful...
Thanks
David
Hi there,
The calendar is an interface for the built in ms app. It should not support google calendar at all.
However, my wife and i use exchange for that. Actually shared calendar was the reason she wanted exchange.
Hi Sproxy,
I thought the problem was with the activesync program in WinMo that stopped syncing multiple google calendars. I thought that because on the iPhone you can sync multiple google calendars through using the Exchange protocol but on WinMo you are limited to one calendar...
Does anyone know how you can get it working or if this might be a future feature?

if you can sync one google calendar, it would be enough because you just have to sync one calendar, which is your own. Your wife calendar events can be added under "add friends calendar" in google calendar.

I don't think thats quite what the original post was getting at.
With ActiveSync, you can sync a calendar, this will bring the main google calendar from your account, ie yours. It doesn't support multi calendars from google.
There is a program out there called OggSync http://oggsync.com/ which reports that it does support all calendars for WinMo.
I've not had chance to try it myself, but will be doing when my HD2 arrives.
1) It is possible to sync two Exchange Servers with your PPC. See http://tinyurl.com/yhuq7ap
Shortcut:
Change the registry key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\EnableNonLocalCrossPollination]
from (DWORD) 0 to (DWORD) 1
Use a registry editor like Pocket TotalCommander to edit the key.
2) Google offers to sync your calendar, contacts and mail via the ActiveSync Protocol. See http://tinyurl.com/dc4kq9
Shortcut:
Server: m.google.com (use SSL)
Username: [email protected] (with the @gmail.com / @googlemail.com part!)
Password: IHopeYouHaveAGoodPW
I've never tested the solution I provide here, but this should theoretically work.
If you test it, some (including me) might be interested to hear your experiences.

Hi guys, nicelad_uk got more to what my intention was. I have looked and tested with the emulator and found that it's impossible to sync more than one google calendar through exchange. I was wondering whether if HTC had actually rewritten the calendar app and it would therefore support multiple google calendars.
I have tried the OggSync application with outlook and will try it out again when i get my HD2. My only problem is I didn't like that you couldn't add to other calendars (not your main calendar) from without outlook and I just wonder if it will be possible to do so from WinMo...
I really hope Microsoft sort out this stupid problem sometime soon it really is quite frustrating!
Thanks for the help,
David

It doesn't work. Or at least it didn't work for me when I tried. Reading the suggestions about this workaround carefully I came to the conclusion that it might work with ActiveSync connection to PC, but not Exchange over the air.

The bad news is that it's not a bug and therefore won't be fixed. It's by design and considered to be a "security" feature. This way your company thinks that their stuff won't end up somewhere on Google. I know it's stupid (and wrong), but I don't make decisions here.
BTW, it works the same on the iPhone and Android - only one Exchange connection allowed.
What we really need is native support for IMAP Idle really - there's no need whatsoever to use Exchange for personal mail.
Hi, I lookong for some solution (plugin) for Windows mobile 6,1 calendar to switch off or on the phone and another network services and the ringing profiles depending on calendar timepoints. Change Calendar Category so can fully use Multiple Google Calendars

Hi all,
I've managed to get my Google Calendars syncing with my phone now both ways, so I can view 5 calendars on my phone. They sync 2 way and do it very well!
The only thing I'm wanting to do is when creating a new Calendar appointment in HTC Sense, it has default categories of "None", "Business", "Holiday", "Personal" and "Seasonal".
I need to be able to change these so I can put the actual Calendar name in and create new appointments on my phone that will Sync to google.
Anyone got any idea's how I can change these? Haven't been able to find anything so far
Try to use the outook mobile calendar ... There you can introduce new categories but they are not used by the HTC agenda. Maybe are read by Google Sync ?

Cheers for that. The Categories are in the Pocket Outlook Calendar and if I use those, it syncs correctly. The only problem is the HTC Calendar version, it has the default categories only.
Shame
I agree with you. I posted yesterday evening a question to HTC support to known if we can change the proposed categories into Sense because it's a Sense limitation (same problem with groups into the contacts).
I will keep you informed.

I'd like to see a workaround for this too, I use David Allen's GTD methodology and I'd like to change the default categories so that match the ones I use on my Outlook calendar. As it is the default categories sync OK with Outlook, but I don't understand why HTC hard-coded them so they can't be changed.
Otherwise the calendar app is pretty good. There aren't any really good, 3rd party, finger-friendly calendars available at the moment.

[Q] Sync with Outlook

Hi All

and after that install nitrodesk touchdown (exchange client for android)
Stop syncing with Outlook.
I recommend, open GMAIL account, then sync with GMAIL instead, and if you want to sync back to Outlook, download googlesync for outlook.
You can try this:
http://www.android-sync.com/
It uses ADB to sync.
However, connecting an Android phone to a computer is somewhat waste of time, everything can be done wirelessly including charging nowadays anyways.
MyPhoneExplorer
I recommend MyPhoneExplorer to sync Android builds with Outlook. Using it since it came out and it works great. There's even WLAN syncing supported (you need a plugin from the Market do be able to use WLAN). Also available from Market. Great software and comfortable as hell. Only downside: No Outlook category support.
Cheers, Olioaglio

+1, good program
If you use Outlook and sync on a work pc in an environment which is locked down and you can't just install all of these apps being suggested, just try re-installing HTC Sync and the HTC drivers. Works for me.
I'll assume you don't have Exchange. If you do, then just sync directly with Exchange. I you prefer all the benefits of having an Exchange account but want it for personal use, Microsoft now gives ActiveSync/Exchange support with all Hotmail accounts. Just get a hotmail account.
Gmail account is good for personal use, but I prefer all the interactivity that Microsoft has.
If you just want to sync, I'll second the vote for MyPhone Explorer
