I was messing with my phone and just looking thru stuff and I noticed my phone is NOT on Rev.A with Sprint. My girlfriend has the moment and hers is on RevA. Mine is on Rev.0
And I checked the download speeds and mine is slower and were sitting right next to each other. Any idea why?
I have all updates.
as far as i know sprint said its a visual glitch and and it will be fixed soon
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/12/sprints-htc-hero-shipping-sans-ev-do-rev-a/
Check the update to the article. It is just a programming visual glitch and they know about it (or so they claim ha).
haha Alright thnks guys.
You would think that would be fixed with the 1.56 update...but it wasn't. So now I'm questioning if this really is a visual glitch.

I don't think it is. Mine says the same thing, and I get slower speeds than people are posting. I am located in Brooklyn, NY and work in New York, NY and neither get A.
I think that's their lame excuse for not serving everyone at same speed not to overwhelm the tower bandwidth. The problem is that only certain people are suffering with this issue, I would say half of users. So figure, "the most reliable 3G network" trick.
Any comments on that, maybe developers, or maybe Sprint technicians.
MY Sprint Hero says: "CDMA - EvDo rev. A" I have seen it bounce to rev. 0 sometimes when I have week signal or I'm roaming, I just placed it under my desk and watched it roll to rev. 0, it does it real time. On top the desk now, it's back to rev. A.
I have applied all the OTA updates from Sprint. I did the "Firmware update", "Update profile", and "Update PRL". After that, I rooted the phone using adb on a Mac. Otherwise, that's all the changes I've done. Also, I am located in Mesa, AZ.

Mine says identical thing but it's always Rev. 0 , I've never seen A. ever. And I refreshed everything and once called Sprint for that. No one wants to do anything.

Exactly what I was thinking, the second I saw the "glitch" wasn't fixed in the newest update. I live in a heavy Rev. A area and I have done speed comparisons against a Pre, and my Hero (which displays Rev.0) is always the slower of the two. I'm thinking the first couple thousand units that were produced, really are only capable of Rev. 0 speeds. HTC just didn't catch the error until just before they started producing the Google-branded phones. I'd love to be absolutely wrong, so maybe someone can inspect the hardware/software to see what's truly going on here. If this is the case though, Sprint needs to let all of us swap phones.
YAY FOR REV A!!
I have never thought to check this...so much for trusting the carrier. I have craptastic signal at the house (i live in the sticks). I will post back if it changes for me when I get home.

I doubt it's a visual glitch.
After a clean wipe and a flash to MoDaCo's I'm still displaying REV.0
Others that started with REV.A and clean wiped still have REV.A
I would think that everyone that flashed MoDaCo's would be one or the other. So it must be in the radio no?
Yeah. Anyone called and *****ed to Sprint yet? Were paying for revA speeds we should be getting them.
Sprint already knows about this because it was one of the very first issues ever reported for the phone on day one. The admins on the Sprint forum also communicated the "glitch" to the proper people and then HTC said it would be fixed in the maintenance release. The question is how do we go about getting them to admit to this issue (if it truly exists) after they've already denied it?
Mine always says rev 0. Never seen it say rev A...either before or after the update.

Agreed. I know an actual hardware change would be nearly impossible, but that doesn't change the fact that many of these phones still only display either 1xRTT or Rev. 0 in the status menu and have speeds that reflect those connection types. Maybe the network is just under high strain in my area, but I don't understand why another phone beside mine would get consistent 2Mbps download speeds versus my 400-700 Kbps.
yeah,
It has to be something else. I have yet to see mine bump over to revA. In any areas to say the least. And like I said my girlfriend has the moment and shes on A, so the area is not an issue.
I didn't really think it was an actual problem, I just got 1.68Mbps down on speedtest.net from my home which seems decent. But I guess revA is theoretically capable of 3Mbps? I'm wondering what we should realistically be expecting.

When I first got the Evo, I was getting about 900kb/sec-1.1mb/sec in my house, and ever since I've flashed these custom ROM's and new radio... The best I can get is about 300-500kb/sec... I've also noticed that my signal seems to fluctuate every couple seconds, from no signal to a full signal, which never used to happen either. I know I'm not going crazy, I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this... It's really discouraging
thread moved to general discussion forum.
i also noticee this too and ur are ABSOLUTELY right i was clockin like 1.1mb-1.5 before and im rooted using the fresh room and im at 600kb
gonna return mine, get a new one, and stick to stock... i think it broke my radio internally.
I notice slower speeds as well from my first day or so 4th and 5th. I might feel the same way you do if I didnt have my girlfriend and best friend who both got evo around the same time and are being completely stock. They both have similar speeds to me. I actually went into a Sprint store to complain and sure snuff my speeds jumped up to 700kbps downstream for the first time in almost a week right before I went in.
I am NOT happy with my 3g speeds and am borderline on canceling my contract. If it wasn't for this awesome phone and this awesome dev community I would tell Sprint to kiss my whole @$$h0le. Premium data my ass.

I noticed better speeds after the ROM and Radio update. Speeds are highly variable and depend on a lot of factors. I doubt you damaged it by flashing, flash memory is designed to be flashed.

Just run the RUU, it will restore the original radio and everything else you think you lost. Link is here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685835
I have a feeling this has more to do with your local network congestion, but feel free to prove otherwise.
I've flashed the original RUU and it didn't fix it... why would my speed halve with no changed variables? It just doesn't make sense.
It's not possible that I damaged my radio by flashing the upgraded radio? And now that's why it's acting erratic and my speeds are so bad?

I just got 490 down 380 up, but my results vary wildly... again depending on network conditions and where you are connected and how many users are also connected, etc. Get a few people on the same tower that are into bittorrent and your results can be drastically different.

388/770

Even if it is possible, your new phone will come pre-broken most likely. That radio is the official Sprint radio and if the phone has the OTA update you will have it.

Just because you do not know what the variables are, does not mean there are no variables.
Possible variables you are not considering.
There are 20 other people around you with new EVOs testing their speeds, tethering, and downloading like its going out of style.
Time of the day. There are peak usage times. Maybe your first test was on a low usage time.
The site you use to test your speed has become more congested recently.
There is more CDMA users around you recently. With CDMA towers, the more users per tower, the lower its radius/signal will get.
Maybe you had WiFi on the first time?
I am sure I could make up 15 more variables if I wanted to.
To ease your concerns, think of ROMs as software, and your phone as the hardware. It is very unlikely that you did damage to the hardware. Especially considering most of these ROMs are exactly like Stock minus a few Sprint apps.

Sorry to break it to you but these are typical sprint speeds. Sprint is one of the slowest cell carriers I have ever used.
I'm not an idiot alright... I didn't have Wifi on... I know somethings screwed up with my phone, it's not in my head.
There are possibly some variables as to why my speed isn't the same as it was a week ago, but there really is no explanation that for my erratic signal.
Oh well, hopefully I can figure it out.
obviously this has nothing to do with wifi, but doesnt the EVO have 4G and cdma radio's????

I am close to returning my EVO. I thought that maybe one of my flashes has done something to my 3g speeds, but I ran that RUU and no luck . I am going to be going to Sprint store on Wednesday to compare.
I am in Aurora CO, I am coming from Nexus one on T-Mobile. I LOVE Evo, but hate the way sprint is. I use my phone at the gym to listen to Pandora/Slacker, can't even do it on Evo since I get such crappy 3g speeds.. Downtown Denver phone works fine, but not here... Anyways, on T-Mobile I got about 1.6mb down, and 300up most of the time.
Today, I went down to T-Mobile store and ran SpeedTest on MT3G and Evo. At the store, MT3G got 3mbps down!!!, Evo howered around 600kbps. Anyways, point is, I really am not too happy with Sprint in my area. I am sure that in other places it is fine, but it doesn't seem to be the case here. I have tried everything, even downgraded my radio, no change in results.

Once again, really depends on where you are. I have posted of my results here in Colorado, so yea...
have you tried changing the PRL's to use Verizons towers?
from my experience the only negative thing it does is break sprint TV
i felt the same way, just noticed tonight. but now that i've run a bunch more speed tests, it all averages out. no doubt all these evo's are taxing sprints network to the extreme. :/ hopefully that $10 surcharge will quickly pay for upgrades.
UPDATE - - see my post on page 3, the issue is confirmed as a Sprint network problem. I'm in KC, no problems. Denver 2 hours ago, couldn't load this page without timeout. Call Sprint and demand it be fixed!
Update 2 -- I just got off the phone with Sprint this morning (6/18) and they confirmed the issue. They have lots of reports of problems in Denver and Colorado in general. They say the issue started on 6/13 and affects 3G, 4G, third party messaging, and data roaming. They're not accepting any more trouble tickets, however, she did note my account that I reported the issue was occurring since that time for me, and she said once the issue is resolved, I should call back to ask for credits to my account for the loss of data use. I would urge ALL of you to call Sprint today and report the same so you can get your account noted and get some money back when they fix this crap.

Hi there,
I'm having a VERY flaky 3g connection after rooting and moving to flipz and damage roms. I don't think it's either rom, instead I think it has something to do with either the radio flash, or with Denver's 3g connection in general. Anyone else having similar issues? I've seen at least one person using each of flipz and damage seeing that.
Any ideas at what might cause the 3g connection to get hosed? It will cut out during file downloads, etc...it seems like it can't hold itself for more than 2 minutes. It will still say there is a connection, but you can go to google.com in the browser, and it will timeout.
I've updated PRL and Profile several times with no luck, I've tried the old radio and new, both affected. PRL 60665 is what I have now.

I have a stock EVO that is having the exact same problem. Seems to time itself out after a min or so. My wife has the same phone and no problem.

Can you check and see in the software information if you have the same baseband and prl version? You might be able to help us figure this out. Thanks!

Just checked them and they are exactly the same, although she is now having the same issue. To be more specific, the 3g icon shows upload and download for a length of time (20 sec to 2 min) and then sometimes shows only the upload arrow. The upload icon flashes a few times and then 3g drops completely. Usually upon returning to the home screen it seems to reset itself, only to repeat once internet is accessed or application is installing.

This is the exact same behavior I'm experiencing. I've tried both radios, multiple ROMs, etc. The only conclusion I can draw is that it must have something to do with the PRL version, or the infrastructure itself here in Denver.

I have tried everything I can think of (short of giving up and calling support) and still no dice. The thing I can't figure out is what could have changed in the last 3-4 days in my neck of the woods to suddenly have such intermittent coverage. I have had Sprint for 10 months with absolutely no issues, now I can't even check out full websites. Makes the Evo a lot less fun for sure.
I dont think its just Denver. Im thinking sprint is throttling perhaps. Its affecting 4 people in the DC Maryland VA area that i know that have EVOs

I work downtown. Definitely the best signal I get is near Coors Field, but I have seen 4G as far south as Broadway & I-25 and as far north as I-70 & I-25.
Speeds are variable. Looks like they are getting all the hardware in place and testing. Hope it means that full 4G will be online soon!
No dice for the OMJ rom for me. I flashed it, and had the issue reproduced within two minutes of the rom being up. Hung in the market, and then timed out in the browser on sprint's powerdeck website.
I noticed that the upload arrow was solid throughout the entire time of the behavior occurring.
Well, shoot.
Just a thought, I notice on my sprint home page that I've used 3.5GB of data this month.
Could this be throttling maybe? I know someone else mentioned it earlier, but just noticed this usage amount on my own page. can others experiencing it check their usage as well?

Something's screwed. I saw 3. 5 gb used earlier on Sprint. Com and on the way to the airport, checked again, saw 500 mb on my wifes hero, 780 on mine. Calling Sprint tomorrow.

I'm in the same part of town as kmartburrito and had this issue the other day with Flipz 0.2. I just restored my flash of Flipz' stock with the OTA update and new radio. I'm having no problems with that setup.
Haven't had time to flash anything else yet, but I'm planning to unlock NAND this weekend and check out Flipz and Damage's new stuff. After reading this thread, I think I might just leave well enough alone until things stabilize a bit.

Tried this, went from -86 to -92. Fewer bars too, although those don't really mean anything for this or otherwise. I switched back to 65144, db's went back up. Who knew?
In your case it looks like Verizon removed access to some towers that were near you that gave you better signal strength.
Verizon/Alltel Hybrid PRLs may stop working soon
*228 got me 52011 here too. But I originally had a Verizon/Alltel Hybrid PRL (65024) that was working absolutely great (4 bars!) until a few days ago. I live in a fringe area for Verizon. But there is an Alltel tower about 1/2 mile away. Unfortunately (for me), I just read that Verizon who in 2009 acquired Alltel, has recently unloaded Alltel, or at least a good chunk of it. The company that bought Alltel is called Atlantic Tele-Network, Inc. Or ATN. This probably explains why my Alltel Hybrid PRL no longer gives me great reception. I'm back to 0 to 1 bars now. When I did the *228/2 today I had my fingers crossed...but it didn't help. Still 0 to 1 bar, and dropping calls again...
How can I check which prl I'm running. I have been having great reception so prob won't mess with anything, but curious how to check. Thanks

Since bell is releasing the atrix here in canada tomorow and everything ive read about the lack of upload speed on the att version of the atrix(which i have and can atest to lol) is directly related to the handset and not the network, cause im capped as well and im on rogers here. This is unlikely, it is a radio issue.
Flashing the radio worked for the Captivate to get HSUPA and the Nexus One gets HSUPA stock.

I'm really hoping its not capped. That way we can try and flash the US radio with the Bell radio. So far that is the only complaint I've had with the phone.
If anyone gets their hands on a Bell Atrix let me know. I can walk you through dumping the radio firmware from the device. Hopefully the Atrix will take it without having radio security turned off!

One the mods (from Canada) at Android Forums said that it is indeed uncapped, they got 1.5 to 2 Mbps up:
http://androidforums.com/motorola-atrix-4g/289470-bell-atrix-canada-2.html#post2432323
I remember all sorts of problems with flashing the Bell modem onto the Captivate when I still had it, like not able to be heard on a phone call. Did those issues all get worked out in the end?
@GermanGuy:
That was pretty much a conflict between the ROM in use, the Kernel in use, and the Radio in use (Cappyvate had a sound processor onboard that calls got processed through whereas the i9000 and others did not, so the components had to match up or you'd run into that issue)
Hopefully not a problem on Bell I'm mostly worried that the radio will be signed with a cert that the AT&T Atrix accepts!
Is the Bell modem HSPA+ capable, or is it strictly HSUPA/HSDPA?

does this have anything to do with the locked bootloader or is that a different issue? flashing a modem is possible even with a locked bootloader?

bell modem will have hspa+ since their network supports it.
Then let's hope it is flashable. Would solve at least one of my problems.
Today I went to a bell store to see if they had the atrix on display. They didn't, however there was a guy talking to one of the bell employees with something that looked like the laptop dock. So i go closer, and what do you know, its the atrix. I start talking to both gentlemen and one of them tells me he is from Motorola and he is showing the Bell staff how the accessories work. I asked to borrow his phone for a minute and ran a quick speed test. I got 2.3 mbps upload and 7.9 mbps download. My jaw dropped. Then i went inside his gallery app and saw that his pictures date all the way back to late December. He said the atrix has been his personal phone for a while now and he goes around to different parts of the country to demo the units. awesome job if you ask me.

LOL way to snoop around in his private stuff!
Are you sure it was not connected to Wifi?
All,
This phone is perfect...... until depending on LTE...
I'm about to send my Nexus 6p back for a refund. I go to a few sports bars and whatever else around a decent sized metro area with excellent Verizon Wireless coverage. I have unlimited data on Verizon so I don't care about constantly switching over to whatever wireless is available.
Prior to the Nexus 6p I had/have a Samsung Galaxy s4 and it seems to be a coverage king (for a small phone).
Tonight was my breaking point. I did a fresh wipe/install of 6.0.1 build MMB29M based on this thread's data https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=197102 . I then ventured out on the town to see how things would react. The phone absolutely does a better job switching back and forth between wireless and LTE without needing to toggle airplane mode like I had to on MMB29Q .
However, the ultimate test was being in my favorite pub and trying to stream watchespn. This phone just utterly chokes when attempting to do this, hell even browsing the internet is painfully slow at times. I tried 2 additional places where my OLD Samsung Galaxy s4 would just roll through content like nothing, the nexus 6p continued to choke/stutter/stammer blah blah, just horrible.
The ultimate point where I am about 99% sure I'm returning this phone was when I picked up my partner's old iphone 5, fired up watchespn and it began streaming content instantly in fantastic fashion on the same Verizon network.
So to sum it up an iphone 5, or samsung galaxy s4 = perfection on Verizon LTE.... with the Nexus 6p chokes and has horrible signal apparently.
What exactly am I missing?
You're not exactly alone. I switched from AT&T to Verizon last week....same phone, same rom, but different carrier. Even though Verizon has much better coverage where I live (Maui, Hawaii) I get crap service on the my 6P. My wife has far better service and signal strength in her Droid Turbo. Heck, half the time my phone won't even ring... Just pops up and says "missed call".....it's really annoying.
I'm in SoCal and I'm getting the best LTE I've ever gotten. Other day I got 101MB DL from speed test. I'm pretty happy. I'm on the 2.15 Radio BTW.
I remember when I had my S4 and it was fast on Verizon and I do notice that the 6p is slower. Also I wish that we could just stay on band 4 only because sometime I get kicked to band 13 if I download giant files.

I really want to understand this as well. I finally pushed down the 2.15 radio via ADB in fastboot.
So now I'm on 6.0.1 build MMB29M with the 2.15 radio.
I will not be able to test the signal issues until I go back to my favorite pub in town tomorrow night.
I agree with your point about band 4, WHY does this phone lock onto XLTE band 4, full strength and then randomly decide to go over to some lesser band while sitting on my desk? Literally don't even move the phone and it bounces around bands like a jack russel fn terrier .
**Edit, phone has stuck on Band 4 for quite some time now sitting on my desk. Not sure what to attribute it to. (2.15 radio? MMB29M build?)
True test will come tomorrow evening. It'll be make or break, time to figure out if this thing goes back.
Are you guys saying the 2.15 radio is better than the 2.47 radio? I've had pretty good performance with the 2.47 on Verizon, but I'm curious if the 2.15 is better.
Where does it show the radio version?

op, thx for linking the bug thread. to add...
cut and paste from the many other lte threads:
this was a big introduced way back when the 6.0.1 update was released at the beginning of december and had yet to be fixed. the apn solution worked only sometimes after a reboot... for me anyway. not sure how the apn change will affect those on different carriers since folks all over the world have reported this.
see bug thread here:
https://code.google.com/p/android/is...tail?id=197102
if the op in that thread is only somewhat your issue, take a look at post #127 also.
star that thread, leave useful comments, AND create a bug report to help. after doing those three things call to let google know as this has been an issue since the beginning of december.
temporary fixes tried:
1. reseting network connections in backup/reset
2. the \*#\*#4636#\*#\* (star, pound, star pound, 4636, pound, star, pound, star), test info, blah blah, set to zero
3. including admin in the apn
4. using another apn
5. toggling data, airplane mode, or rebooting.
6. rma'ing
7. trying different radios
8. starting from scratch with factory image
9. uninstalling goole connectivity services updates "trick"
10. making sure to turn off WiFi before rebooting.
again STAR the issue in the top upper left corner of the link provided, leave a useful comment, and make a bug report. ALL the of these help.
probably missed a few others that i've tried.
the point is that all of the ten things mentioned about are NOT fixes if it continues to happen.
DO THIS: go to reddit and search the subreddit for "lte" (without the quotes of course). a lot of them, right? not sure there would be that many posts if there was a sure shot solution that was not recurring.
you should be able to see some of the reddit 6p lte posts here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/sea...restrict_sr=on
what's strange is that not a single tech blog has reported/linked the bug thread. i dunno. sigh. at the bug thread link i posted, there are 500 unique users that have identified this as a bug. huge number for that site. exactly three months that this problem has persisted.
end of cut and paste.
has anyone tried the security update today to see if it resolves the bug?

Not a chance I "upgrade" to this release for at least a little while. Sure would be nice to see some traction from google on this first.

Bootloader screen is the easiest way to see it. You will see boot version and radio version.

just a heads-up.... no, the march update does not fix the lte bug.
funny thing is (maybe not so funny) is that there's a chance that doesn't get fixed until the android N developer preview is released in two more months. it's been three months since this bug was introduced, so wouldn't be all that surprising if we have to wait another two. this is just plain sad.

It's a security patch, not a bug/issue fix. And yes, we may have to wait until N for the LTE fix, or it may never get fixed.

So for me 2.15 and 2.47 work the same. All I've ever used is 6.0.1 with both radios. FWIW, the 6p performs just like an iPhone 6s and a Note 5 on VZW at my location.
I work in a very crappy signal area, only VZW gets service, and it's anywhere from 0-2 bars of 1x, 3g, and LTE rotating all day on all VZW phones.
Outside that area, my 6p performs as expected with VZW on the 2.47 radio.

2.47 radio works best for me also!! :good:
I have been bouncing back and forth between 2.15 and 2.47 and 2.15 is giving me better signal, i am in Richmond, VA and we have xlte and all that jazz and when i get a good connection speeds are phenomenal but i do have a lot of problems with it bouncing back and forth between 3g and 4g which i have never had happen before. on 2.47 i was stuck on 3g for some reason and whenever i reboot i end up on 3g which sucks

For all of those who are running the 2.47 radio. 2 questions
1. What 6.0.1 revision level are you running? As stated in that google problem thread ( https://goo.gl/GROfr2 ), someone mentioned 6.0.1 build MMB29M is working well for them, but that ships with the 2.50 radio which is clearly problematic, so it makes me think I'd be ok to get the current 6.0.1 build and simply run the 2.15 or 2.47 radio.
2. What revision of Google Connectivity Services are you running? ( https://goo.gl/4X6FB4 ) Anecdotal evidence seems to indicate this is also causing issues. Even on the 2.15 radio, I had issues running the latest version. I did the "uninstall updates" and my phone seems to perform better, I'm hoping this isn't a placebo but it is another "fix" mentioned in the google thread: ( https://goo.gl/DbwuUy )

I'm on the March release of 6.0.1 but I always flash the 2.47 radio after I update. My Google Connectivity Services is C.1.6.7. I'm running a stock rom and Attached are screen shots. Are you doing clean installs or dirty flashing?

When I rolled back I wiped everything and did a clean install via ADB. I'm also running the stock ROM. I'd like to stay with the stock OS for at least a little while because it seems solid otherwise.
Also, this is my first XLTE capable phone. This phone regardless of radio version installed will not stick to XLTE. Does that make sense? Is that how XLTE works? I'm confused greatly by that, if i have 5 bars of XLTE (verified great signal in LTE discovery) why would it not stay on that?

Same here. I live in New England, and I have the best service (speeds and dBm signal strength) on the 6P than I did on my previous G4, Note 5, Turbo, and more.
Well, I'm probably going to try this later today.......
Android N preview has been posted, and it has a new radio of course. radio-angler-angler-03.61.img
Download the entire thing here https://developer.android.com/preview/download.html#top , Or grab JUST the radio file I just uploaded to dropbox:

I probably -shouldn't- flash this radio on Marshmellow, right?
Or is that safe? (I'd be willing to try it, the constant 3G/HSPA hang I'm getting on T-Mobile is crazy, especially since I get 4-5 bars of LTE here after a reboot)
