Which rom? - Touch HD General

Sorry, if I'm posting this in the wrong part of the forum. I am new to flashing roms etc, so I was wondering which rom is best for the Blackstone
What I am looking for is a fast and stable wm6.5 Leo rom with no additional apps other than stock, preferably in NORWEGIAN, but WWE is okay too.
Thanks in advance.

At the moment I'm using NRG's ROM it's WWE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562952
It's a really stable ROM and doesn't come with too many apps, and it's the quickest that I've tried (haven't really tried tonnes though).
Considering you're new to flashing I HIGHLY recommend you have a read through this if you haven't already:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
It's not too long but it can save you from bricking your device.

Thansk for the heads-up man!
I decided to go for Miri's roms
http://htcpedia.com/miri_wm21882_manila25_v14/soft/htc-blackstone-rom.html?page=1
If i don't like it, i will try the engergy rom!
Cheers

Asking an opinionated question is general frowned upon in XDA as everyone has a different opinion on this matter. This would create endless long threads. Best advice would be to read up on a few roms by reading their respective threads and then trying a few to make your own conclusions on which is best for you.

Hello @ll.
I just arrived this Forum and I'm reading all the time that you changed your roms. My question is now why should i change my rom? Will my phone work faster and more comfortable? I have the HTC TouchHD.
Thank you and bye bye from Germany

This is a question that has been asked many times before in other threads. All you need to do is search.
However I'll answer your query this time.
Most people change there rom as they are not happy with the original roms userability, speed, etc and are curious at trying out other roms to see if this has improved as well due to their looks, additional apps, tweaks etc.
Also you cannot get wm6.5 without flashing to a cooked rom, and generally wm6.5 is more finger friendly.
If you read first few posts of each rom thread you will see what is on offer in each particular rom, and with latest roms, this should be significently different to your stock rom. Manila will also have changed as stock roms are generally using manila 1.3 or less while my current rom uses manila 2.1 which is greatly improved as it also has the additonal benefit of being landscape compatible.
Best advice would be to ask yourself what are you looking for on your current phone, and then ask, can my phone do this now. If not, search elsewhere to see if this can be done on another rom, then read flashing guide and flash to that particular rom.

If you want to flash a rom, read this guide. As for which rom is best for, everyone has different tastes, you have lite roms, and full roms (lots of apps included), then you have wm6.1 or wm6.5 as well as different versions of manila. Best advice would be scan first post of each thread and see which appeals to you then try a few out and make your own conclusion
Any future help on flashing should be posted in guide thread
Plenty of people have asked same question and get same result. Research, read & trial.
Can I also remind you to read the forum rules before creating new thread.

Custom ROM Questions

I have had my HD2 for a month now. Been running the stock 1.48 ROM with all the tweaks and fixes from XDA. Everything works great. The newer 1.66 ROM has just been released in my country (I'm in South Africa, things are a bit behind here), and i was thinking of either flashing the stock or a custom ROM.
I've read on these forums from a fair number of people who claim that cooked ROMS are inherently unstable and suffer from random freezes.
Is there any truth to this. I was running Sakajati's Hyperdragon ROMS on my old Kasier, and they were 100% stable.
Or is the instability a result of multiple ROM flashes without using the MTTY process?
Thanks for your help.
I'd say run the stock 1.66 ROM and see how you get on, it might be fine with a few tweaks. After that, look into custom ROMs if you feel you need one
Hi Eddy.
Thanks for the reply.
I'll give the stock 1.66 a go.
was thinking of changing the original rom

it really depends on your needs and deires... the only thing you can do is look through the various ROMs and then choose one that suits you or that you like... if its not what you want then change it...
I have been looking at a lot of ROMS, have not tried any yet.
I think i will probably go with Laurentius Ultimate power. I like the fact that his ROM includes a Radio, and he also does a lot of beta testing before releasing a ROM.
I've just flashed stock 1.66, will try that for a while. Then go the cooked route.
Duttys HG series are very good, using it at the moment (WinMo 6.5-style as I hate the new new buttons) - link is in my sig for those interested
from my personal experience i can tell you the best custom roms are faster, more stable and also have extra features that make them more fun compared to stock. but for this to happen you need to be careful with your flashing method.there is an excellent thread in the 1st page of the ROM development forum which i recommend you study thoroughly before attempting your first custom flash. also, remember to always flash a stock ROM in between 2 customs (or use mtty) and always hard reset the phone after the 1st boot. roms are also radio sensitive so you might also have to flash different radios to obtain the best combination. perhaps it sounds a little complicated but it's not really and definetely worth to try.
cheers mate and have fun!

If u r looking for stable rom, try 6.5 rom, not 6.5.x.
6.5.x roms is more finger friendly but contain more bugs than 6.5
Try Miri's rom or Xanny's rom. I used both and satisfied with both
Hi Antaed.
Thanks for reply. I've read all the HSPL and flashing posts. Not too worried about the process.
I agree with what you say, on my tytnII, custom ROM was much faster.
Good to hear you're not have stability problems with the custom ROMS for HD2

glad to help mate. i'm not a flash addict (just yet ) so i tried only roms from the notorious chefs - dutty, laurentius, xannytech, energy, etc. i wasn't disappointed by any of them, all are very good but each is different in its own way. my favorite is artemis (from sternas) because i find it closest to my needs - leo only packages, close to stock, essential addons and of course great, great performance. i recommend you try a few yourself so you can decide which is best for you.

Which ROM is the best?

Hello,
I'm really sorry to ask such a dumb question, but its really hard for me to see the advantages between the thousands of different ROMs out there. I'm still using the old 1.48 ROm version and I want to update to something new. But I don't know to which ROM?
Is there maybe something like a ranking? Like most people use this ROM, 2nd place this etc.? Which are the most popular ones? best ones?
I know this is always subjective but for the moment some hints would help me.
Thanks a lot!!
do you mean a stock rom or a cooked rom
i have xannytech evo 1.4 its good.. i have tried alot of roms but i think xannyi the best..
This one

The Skyy,
Sorry but we don't do Best Rom threads any more. The best ROM is the one that works best for you.
My advice is either to stick with the stock roms from HTC or, if you are interested in cooked roms, read the features of each ROM in the Rom Dev forum, try a few, weigh them all up then make up your own mind.
Good luck with it

lazy ex-htc-magic guy here

Hi all,
Can someone recommend me the most stable rom which means no lagging or not hanging? or there is none?
I came from HTC Magic so I am familiar with the versions, flashing but in this thread I am totally new although I have flashed xtreme rom
Xtreme rom is quite fast compare to the shipped rom.(but it is still hang time to time) My HD2 is from singapore, telco is starhub.
This is the first time I am on winmo phone and now quite upset about the shipped os.
but but i am lucky to be here to try faster and more stable roms.
So pls someone suggest me which rom should I go for it and all the roms are compatible with my phone? How and where to check the compatible?
This is the way I installed rom, pls correct if i'm wrong.
flash hspl
flash radio
do task 29
flash the rom
reset
do some other fixes if necessary
Thanks a lot.
You guys rock.
ps. Admin, pls delete it if I shouldn't start a new thread. Thanks.
Sorry for quick answer
go to HD2 ROM Development
click view to ascending so u can see most view and click post to see max post from there you can find which rom is using by most people.
if you are more lazy then come here i would flash your phone for you!!!
Hi Thihaz,
Best thing to do, as mentioned above, is to look through the first few posts of each rom and see which ones feel like they will deliver what you are looking for then try them out.
Please read ALL of the tutorial threads, hints and tips, and especially the rom chefs advice BEFORE jumping in.
Good luck with it. Closing this as we don't do "best rom" type threads but I wanted to help you out.
If you need more help on this matter feel free to pm me.
Cheers
WB
PS: Never start a thread by telling people you are feeling lazy. You will get zero help that way.
