unlocking / reflashing voda 2.1 Wildfire

Hi, I've bought my daughter a payG Vodaphone Wildfire and want to put an Orange pay-monthly sim in it.
I'm not particularly bothered who's brandname appears on the phone ( is that what you call 'debranding' )
It seems to be running Android 2.1 but I don't really know whether it can run 2.2 or whether I should risk trying....( is that what you guys refer to as 'rooted' )
I've got prior experience of reflashing Kaisers so understand the basic principles ( though not ready to start messing about with my own new Desire HD yet )
So... can anybody give me some pointers on flashing a new recommended rom...and whether to bother with leaving it at 2.1 or 2.2.
The main factor is I just want it stable, I don't want my daugther moaning at me because its frozen or bugged out...
thx
by the way... below are the stock rom details
VODAPHONE WILDFIRE ROM DETAILS
Firmware version
2.1 update1
Basebrand version
13.45.55.24H_3.35.15.31
Kernel version

1. If you want to use another cell provider, you have to sim-unlock the phone. Remember, it's not the same as debranding.
2. Going to 2.2 is updating. Rooting is something completely different. Rooting is like getting administrator privileges on a windows computer. On customer devices like wildfire you are usually confined to the equivalent of a regular user. It you root, you can do a lot more like move applications to SD card, make battery life longer and run all sorts of advanced apps. It should every useful for most people. You should research on it if you want to know more. However, if you decide to update to 2.2 you can't root the phone anymore. And it may take a long time to discover a new method.
If you want a custom ROM, you should look at cyanogenmod. See the Wildfire Developer forum. And please read the stickies in there. They will give you a lot of information.

Do you even understand that some of us have been fighting against this type comment all our lives?
Idiot.
Greetings,
Backup Failed mean the firmware you have on the phone can not be flashed,
You need to downgrade the phones rom first,
Best check with the HTC site to see if there is a rru that you can flash before hand.

[Q] How to install a Froyo Rom?

Hi there,
I was just wondering how to install a Froyo Rom (With A2SD Support, and 2.1 Android Version). I was wondering about this because they're saying something about "Radio Versions" and I have absolutely no idea what that means. Is it to connect to your mobile carrier? Mine's Virgin Mobile Canada, does it make a difference? I really need to know, because I can't take my chances with this phone. How do I know what radio versions I need for the Rom? Do I install it like a normal Rom? I also want one that has root access. Does that make a difference? Thanks for the help because I'm really confused at the moment. Thanks.
PS: I've searched everywhere for a 2.1 Froyo Rom but still can't find one, can someone please give me the link? The reason I don't want 2.2 is because the last time I used a 2.2 Froyo Rom I couldn't get reception to my carrier (Virgin Mobile), and I know I did something wrong, so I'm asking for advice now. Thanks.

Hi, firstly, please read as much as you can before posting
Now, the reason you can't find 2.1 Froyo is because there is no such ROM. Froyo is a codename for Android 2.2 ROMs, just as 2.1 ROMs have codename Eclair etc...
So if you want Froyo, you want 2.2.
As I have told you in the other thread, read stickies in Development. To get root access, you have to root first - not sure if you have done that, but anyway, read some howtos on rooting any other techniques and you will find out how to fllash a ROM.
Abot the Bell canada thing, I think you are on WCDMA there, which means you have to have a Radio for that - that's what the fuzz is about(about different versions of radios and their receptions). But I'm not sure if you even need a special radio, you'll have to find out in development.
Here are STICKIES
Good luck!

Noob question

Hi, i have a branded phone. It's brand is SFR which is from France. I'm in VietNam and i use this phone normally with other carriers here.
So HTC just released the 2.3.3 update. But from what i know, my phone does not receive the update directly from HTC but from SFR instead. If i want the update now. I have to unbrand it.
If i want to unbrand it, what should i do ? Root it then S-off and Eng-off , and install an unbranded ROM? where can i find a stock unbranded rom of HTC?
Also what's with the radio stuff, i seriously dont know anything about that, i'm afraid if i install new rom my phone may not work because it's different radio ?
Can someone please explain, i'm very new and very confused. Thanks!
Here's my phone information:
Android version:
2.2
Baseband version:
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel version:
2.6.32.21 -gf3f553d

If you going to go to the effort of rooting etc. you may as well install a customised ROM (LeeDroid's if you want Sense, Cyanogen if you don't for example).
Radio is the software that controls network, bluetooth, GPS and Wifi. Read the radio threads in the development forum for more details.
Flashing a radio is the most dangerous thing you can do so do it last and read, read, read and understand before you do. Don't worry, you can install a ROM over the radio you have now.
All your questions about what to do and how are answered in the development forums.
[EDIT] Please ensure that it is clear from your thread subject what the question or issue is.
1. It will likely get you a quicker response.
2. It's just bad etiquette not to do so.
Hi. Thanks for the reply. i've read all the instruction in the android developement forum. I'm just confused about this radio stuff.
So basically my phone's radio is safe to install any ROM now? Is there any other way to unbrand my phone without installing a whole new ROM? or is there any way to grab the ROM from HTC and install it right now? Thanks very much !
If its pure HTC Sense your after, you can have the latest HTC Gingerbread with root.
You can find it HERE
Otherwise Android Revolution, CoreDroid, LeeDrOiD, et al are all good choices.

The radio is probably the most confusing not helped by the fact that what works for one won't for another. It's a try and see thing.

As a rule yes. But different ROM's have different recommendations as to what radio should be used with them (not that we take notice!), the worst case is that you may get worse battery life or worse signal. Won't brick your phone by having a mis-match.
No, no other way as the branding is part of the ROM (and even then some branding might be left and you will have to change the splash screen / boot animation as well).
No, at the moment it is not available from HTC directly.
IMO it is worth the effort to root, S-off your phone.
Once done you have access to all varyities of the different roms.
They differ very much from each other concerning speed, smoothness ...
Try it out and you will be satisfied.
Here at xdadevelopers you'll find everything you need.
i used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
Keep in mind that its an inspire but really just t-mobile's name for a desire.
After you get that done you can download any rom and install it through clockworkmod.
With that one click you don't have to worry about radios and such unless the rom says you have to.
Hi, thank you all for the quick replies, i'm gonna try those stuff out !!!

[Q] How to use the AMT v1.8.5 downgrade and root tools

Hi everybody, I'm very new in the root world, and I'm the proud owner of a Desire Z. I have read the AMT thread and I think that it can be my option, because it seems quite easy to use. But I have a doubt about the Downgrade option.
How it works? I need to do something more or I can downgrade to the desired firmware version with this tool?
Because I read this: "You have to use the Downgrade ROM facility first but you need to be temp or perm rooted first."
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk"
And I'm not sure if the tool it's going to make it or I need to root with another system. And I know that the right system to root it's the Wiki one, but it seems too complicated to me, because I don't know anything about ADB and the other programs.
Here it is my Desire Z:
Device Model: HTC Vision
Bootloader Version: 0.85.0010 SHIP HBOOT
Radio Version: 26.04.02.17_M2
ROM Version: 1.82.405.1
Android Version: 2.2.1
CID: HTC__304
What do you think about it?
hanks in advance and sorry about my horrible english!
Nobody?
Nobody knows how to use the downgrade option, nobody have tried it? I can't ask in the developer thread because I'm too newbie.
Please, I need help before try it...
Thx
Never used AMT so I don't exactly know how to use it, but if you want help with downgrading and rooting your phone you can come over to the #g2root channel on freenode
-Nipqer
Thx
Thx, probably I will join the channel, because I really want to root and my knowledge it's very poor.
