Get contacts/calendar from bricked G1 - G1 General

Hello,
I have a rooted my G1 with ADP 1.5 and this worked well for weeks
But then I tried to install apps2sd, with entirely bricked my phone (stops with the blinking android label)
I still have access via fastboot and system recovery utility, so reflashing should not be the problem.
But since I have disabled syncronising with google and, as always when you brick something, made no backup, I need access to the calendar and contacts.
Does anyone know how to get them back anyhow (some wired plain xml would be fine)
Or does flashing not affect the personal data? (I do not dare to test)
Maybe someone can help me??
Thanks in advance

Bricked = dead. Won't turn on. No recovery. No SPL. No fastboot.
You've soft bricked, which as you said you can recover from.
Anyway, you could try pulling the entire contents of /data and having a poke around in there, as it will still be intact.

Well, since I am not an native english speaking person, I did not know that there is an difference between bricked and softbricked
But anyway, how can I still access /data ? (I find tons of manuals for reflashing, but none of accessing a softbricked phone )

Actually you should be able to flash a ROM and get your phone back to normal without removing anything from /data. Try a donut/cupcake ROM, that should fix your problem.

contacts and calendar should be able to be seen from any computer.

Umm.....What?!

via gmail contacts. they automatically backup i think

Log on to your Google account via a PC and the Interweb thingie and in your email section should be your contacts. Calender has its own seperate section. Dont know if this is what you are after, Hope it helps.

Well I have disabled syncronisation with google, because many friends of me dont want to have their adresses and numbers stored at googles servers and I respect that. (Well I should think about another sync method)
So I tried to flash the rom with the cracked one I used before, which didn't work, and then tried the original ADP Rom from HTC. This still is not booting, but now I have acces via adb, with I had not before.
My Problem now is, that I can access /data only with root rights, so I can not use adb pull, nor ddms (and adb file explorer can not even connect, but I am still searching if I have done anything wrong there)
Any idea how to use any file explorer with root rights ( Don't care if for Linux or Windows)
Best regards,
anymad

have u tested this.
do a nandroid backup,
flahs a new rom.
after the new rom runs, turn your phone into fastboot mode and flash the data.img out of your nandroid backup
fastboot flash data data.img
if the calender and contacts data are storen in data.img you should get it back

Your friends are dumb and your data is secure on Google's servers. Turn sync back on and never have issues like this with things that should never be issues.

Yeah, thank you very much kingchris, based on your idea I got it.
For all who search this, here is what I have done:
1. install the recovery image from cyanogen mod (http://www.cyanogenmod.com/downloads/recovery-image)
2. make an backup
3. wipe everything
4. flash with another image (I took this one : http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-ha...g1/8791-cyanogenmod-full-updates-4-2-6-a.html) but I think it does not matter which one you take
5. restored the nandroid backup to get the data back on (thought I could just select data, but it seems to do full always)
6. reflash again with new image (without wiping before !!)
(I think you could save time when at step 5 you do what kingchris said and make a "fastboot flash data data.img" with the backup from nandroid)
This is what worked for me, but of course I give no warranty at all!

Real Big Problem!!

I was running haykuros hero, i had run two optimizers and started deleting things to make space and increase performance,
I think i deleted something that now doesnt allow the phone to start. The only things i think could do this were 1, the gmail widget, this prevented the phone from syncing with my account prompting me to attempt to reflash, and 2, i had also deleted some setup app (which i thought many people had) and im guessing this is why i couldnt get past the very initial setup after reflashing.
I decided to use my card reader to flash dude 1.2 lite in an attempt to start over but it just bootloops at HTC.
I am desperate to determine what i deleted and how to put it back on my phone, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help in any way possible. I have card reader and adb but dont know where to start.
Honestly at this point, you're better off starting from scratch (ALT+W and ALT+S). You shouldn't loose anything but time. It's all replaceable (assuming any contacts u created since were all sync'd first). No worries, you'll be just that more familiar with your fone and how to flash it!
(P.S. No sarcasm intended )
Aloha-
i did alt w alt s when i flashed dude and it looped. I was just able to flash ion alright though so maybe that will be my starting point to get back to rosie...
So its the htc setup wizard im missing, anybody know enough about this stuff to tell me how i can get this back on my phone...
i would say you are gonna need to pull it out of the update you flashed and adb push it to your /system/app directory, i don't know for sure that this will help but it might

What I am saying is that since you are unable to unequivocally determine which file caused this problem after deleting, it would be easier to start over again. That's worked 4 me every time I've unintentionally deleted a needed file or something similar. It might require loading another ROM (ION is great 4 this, that's what I use as well as easy if u have a backup and can just fastboot flash it) to get the app2sd info all back in the right place on the ext2 partition. IMO this is better because u all the files in their proper place and that's a good starting point. Are you using Haykuro's HERO or one of the compacted builds that don't use app2sd?
tubaking182 is also correct if you know what files u need to replace.

Need Help, can't access the phone/password

I need some help XDA. I don't know if you'll help or not, but I'm law enforcement and I need to access a locked Droid X. None of the forensic solutions available support bypassing the lock code and I don't have access to the Gmail password for this phone.
What I was looking for is a way to flash the phone with a rooted recovery image that would not overwrite the user data on the phone, so that I could recover the contents of the phone. I've looked at several different options including adb/custom recovery images but it looks like I need to access the USB debugging mode to root the phone.
Can this be done and if so how. Is someone out there willing to help me with building a custom recovery image that doesn't overwrite or dump the user data?
maybe im oversimplifying this but have you tried just plugging it in to the computer? my x will automatically connect as a usb drive and allow me to access the files on the sd card, obviously this wont help if you are wanting call logs or txt messages unless they backed them up to the sd card, just a suggestion before custom recovery
xsurferx, I have tried that and the only thing I get is the phone will charge. In device manager the phone is recognized as a Motorola MB810 USB device.
There is no way to access the device available through Windows Explorer.
My bet is that the person who took the time to ensure that privacy is more important than convience ( deny data connect from usb, wipe sdcard, and strong enough password/encryption) has looked further into other routes aswell. But I don't know of any kind of flashable that would both preserve data and reset the lock screen. The phone is probably one of the best suited to not devulging its information. It would probably be easier to get a court order for the cell records. But I wish you luck.

If you're trying to access the SD card, take it out and use a SD card reader on a computer and should be able to fix permissions that way? Maybe....

Thanks chbennet, I've already retrieved the cell phone records from the provider (via Search Warrant) and examined the victim's phone in this case. But as always I'd also like to have all of the evidence including the suspect's phone contents. I already have the SD card contents.
There has to be a way similar to the iPhone to restore the system data to default while keeping the user data (call logs, SMS, Images, video, browser history, etc.) in tact.
The iPhone does this by creating a system partition and a user partition. Is this the same in Android phones? Or is it one partition and directories?
I'd still like to see if there is someone that could build a ROM flash that would disable the passcode.
If it is rooted, there was probably a nandroid backup on the card. If there was, this might help.

Un-Bricking by Unlocking & Flashing CWM+CM7 (was: Accidentally deleted MediaProvider)

Un-Bricking by Unlocking & Flashing CWM+CM7 (was: Accidentally deleted MediaProvider)
Hi!
When removing Bloatware with Titanium Backup a while ago, I accidentally missed a click (never used a touch screen...) and uninstalled MediaProvider, which I have not been able to recover since.
I tried putting the files back from a friend's HTC, which didn't work; after that I was told even the packages differ between manufacturers, so I tried getting them from a stock Bell Atrix .zip posted on these very forums, which didn't help either. Neither #android-root nor AndroidForums were able to help, thus I ask here: Can anyone tell me how to either make my system accept Bell's files, or where I can find a "vanilla" Motorola build?
(Problem is, the phone didn't come from a phone company, a friend of mine got it pre-release from his uncle who is with Motorola, so it may even be different from what hit the market later on...)
I guess the following information will help, it's a Titanium Backup info file for another componend I backupped shortly after:
#Titanium Backup

(Most of this is unnecessary, I guess, but I can't really be sure what you might need to judge what I would have to to...)
I would be very grateful for any help, it is extremely limiting not to be able to use any media capabilities.
So, thanks in advance,
David
maybe flash a new rom if your contacts are all backed up?
Hm, well, that would really be the last resort :\ In addition to losing all my data, I fear the risk of bricking it completely. Can't really be that I'd have to flash it just because two files are missing...?
Edit: I neglected to say that the files in question are MediaProvider.apk and MediaProvider.odex. I do only need to copy these to /system/app, right?

Yes, but you have to set the permissions same the other files in .system/app folder.
I have attached the missing files to this post. My gingerbread version is 2.3.4.
Good Luck!
Huh. Setting right permissions for the files from Bell had no effect; installing yours soft bricks it in an interesting way: Even with Early USB Enumeration, all I see is
# adb devices
List of devices attached
???????????? no permissions
Even with root. The LED flashes red, and after a minute it reboots. I had expected things not to work out, resulting in the deletion of your files, but that I screwed up _that_ bad after it didn't even seem to notice the right (?) files when they were there is kinda surprising.
The standard workarounds (adb kill/start server, MODE=0666 to udev or being root) change nothing about this. Time for hard reset?

I would hard reset too at this stage. I'm sorry it didn't work out.
Now, that's interesting. Factory reset didn't change anything.
Sorry for reply to self, but I was less than clear, so - help?
My next step would be to try to unlock the bootloader, then flash CWM and see if anything can be fixed that way; then, I would try flashing CM7 (or, more specifically, the Neutrino GT ROM) by CWM; then, I would try flashing it without. Is that a safe progression of attempts? Or have I possibly broken anything that would hard-brick it by any of these methods? And can you recommend any finer increments what I could do before / between / after those mentioned? I still have the option to apply an update in Recovery - is it possible, for instance, to put a .zip onto my SD that has 0 Byte MediaProvider files in it?
(I have thought about installing Neutrino for a while, and this seems to be a good time to flash it, as my data is cleared now anyways. To my understanding, this should not be any more dangerous than just re-flashing the Froyo that was there before, right?)
As an additional fact, ADB now doesn't detect any devices any more, even with Early USB. This could be because USB Debug is not a factory standard setting, though, as I reset it to factory defaults.
Also, the startup Moto screen behaves differently: It doesn't go to the point where the logo disappears in a flash, the background light switches off before that. As far as I can tell, the display still shows the animation, though, but it is not lit. Furthermore, the reboot seems to happen immediately after the animation has ended, and not 1-2 minutes later, like it was before the reset.
I would be grateful if anyone could explain what happened. To my understanding, a factory reset should clear /system, and the error started when I put some non-compatible .apks there, so I thought this would fix things. Is it possible something broke on the hardware side, when (for instance) 2.2.2 called a function that has had its parameters changes in 2.3.4?
[If a moderator reads this - does this qualify as a general Android question? I have no experience with different devices, so I'd be glad if you could decide if this thread has to stay here or if it can go to a sub-forum with a wider audience - General Android Q&A, for instance.]
Bump...
Success Neutrino up and running!

[Q] ***URGENT Help*** ZTE Libra on Bootloop because of Internal Memory

[Q] ***URGENT Help*** ZTE Libra stuck on BootLoop because of insufficient Internal Memory
Hello there,
I have a very big problem and i need urgent help to Recover All data from an ZTE Libra android phone INTERNAL MEMORY who is stuck in Bootloop after ran out of Internal Memory.
I don't have made any backup of my Data.
I don't want to do Factory Reset yet.
I have tried wipe cache partition that don't work for me.
About phone: ZTE Libra bought on amazon, i think is android 2.2 STOCK ROM installed, NOT rooted, USB debugging NOT activated,I can enter Recovery Mode by pressing Power button + Volume Down + Home Button,I can enter FTM mode (Field Test Mode) - i think its called by pressing Power Button + Volume Up, I can connect it to PC - Windows 7 with USB cable in FTM mode and Wondershare Dr Fone Recovery program recognize it but i am stuck on 2nd Step where it ask me to activate USB Debugging and i am not able to do so, I can connect it to PC - Windows 7 with USB cable while is Turned ON and in Bootloop and My PC list it in My Computer but if i click on it is empty - If i click Properties it shows empty also, but it shows there,
PS. I also contacted ZTE Support directly by email and discussed with them about this, and ask them for a solution. i still wait for answer at the moment as they told me so.
After reading all possible forums since Monday i have found some information who make me think there is possible to find a solution, in the forms of some Exploits/Debugging software made by Developers, etc
I try to achieve the followings:
1. I want to fix the Bootloop or restore back the phone to its normal state so i can use it again.
2. I want to recover Phonebook Contacts from the Phone memory, Notepad Notes from the phone, Whatsapp Data from the Phone memory, Bookmarks if possible from Browser, etc
3. I want to know if i can install ClockworkMod recovery from the sd card and install an factory image or update without losing DATA.
4. I have found a script in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2138661&nocache=1
Is possible to fix the boot loop by trying to free some space on the internal memory with this script ????
5. Is possible to install stock rom without wiping data or how to update stock rom without wiping my data ????
Here is some info i have found on some other thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/help/soft-brick-bootloop-stock-recovery-t2806516
" Also search XDA for reactivation lock threads.. some people were claiming that they have found bugs /exploits that may aid you in recovering. You might also be able to dump the data partition from a JTAG interface - but that would be a highly technical, expert level procedure where a misstep could brick your phone.
And as a practical last resort, if nothing else works, try installing a firmware update instead of a full OEM image. That may replace enough system files to fix the boot process and might not delete your user files in the data partition. "
In the last resort i think i reset to factory and then use Wondershare Dr Fone to recover my Data but i have very important Notes and Phone numbers that i want to recover and i want to make sure i can save them.
What happened is:
Monday i was using Whatsapp and after several times getting an error that Whatsapp stop working, and Browser stop working - Internal memory ran Out of Space lt was less than 1 MB just few kb left , i was trying to delete some Voice messages from Whatsapp to create some space because the phone has only 100 MB of Internal Memory and in the last time always tell me it Runs out of Space.
I deleted the voice messages and then i turned OFF the phone in the idea that it will update the memory space and show how much i have left.
When i want to turn ON the phone it got stuck in the Bootloop.
First i did not know what is happening but then i searched on google and found out about this.
Please Help me. I need urgent help from Professionals and Developers, i am willing to pay also to recover my data. Any solutions, there has to exist a solution.
I am waiting for your answer, Thank you so much in advance.
2. i think contacts are saved on your gmail account.
5. when you update stock rom you don't lose anything

I am thinking to use that Fix bootloop script, put it on the sd card and delete Whatsapp APP to create free space and hopefully i can gain access again to the phone and then reinstall Whatsapp
Any advice? PLEASE!!!
Help anyone ????????????
PLEASE HELP
I am trying to recover my data and i need some advice whether to use this methods or no
1 method
I have found a BOOT LOOP zip fix script here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2138661 that can delete apps from the phone in order to fix the boot loop. i am thinking to use this to create some space on the phone since my phone is stuck in boot loop because of insufficient internal memory. I am thinking to delete whatsapp and hope to be able to gain access to the phone so i can save my phonebook, notes, etc and then reinstall whatsapp and recover my messages from whatsapp backup. I need to know if this script work with a phone that is not rooted. i already sent message to the person who posted the thread but still no answer. I need advice if this CAN work or no ??????????????????
2 method
I have found on internet information of how to install Clockworkmod recovery, so i downloaded this file " recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-blade " that i think work with ZTE Libra too. If i can install this maybe i can find a solution.
I need to know can i install this if my phone is not rooted ??????????????????
Can any of this work ?????????????
I NEED URGENT HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think no one has expirience with this problem, you shuold post question somewhere elese, like android general etc.
Hi,i have root my phone.please, what next.
Sent from my Infinix-X551 using XDA Free mobile app

Dr Fone recovery option messed up my phone getting "Enter your password to start up device" and No support single sku

When I plugin my Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and then select recovery module and it show as connected and then I select android data recovery option and then select recover documents only and then click next. Then it show and detected device model, downloading package and it went like that till 99% uncertain if it hit 100% or not and then it caused my device to reboot and after it reboot now it is asking for a password to start up device but I tried device screen password, google account password and samsung account password but all didnt work. Thus it shows have 7 attempts left before factory reset itself.
The boot up looks a bit different from normal too, unsure if it is coming through a different type of boot and if there is a way to reverse to how it was earlier?
In recovery mode it shows in recovery log pid 2064 ran. where first line filesystem table code was;
0/ efs ext4/ dev/block/platform/1354000.dwmmc0/by-name/EFS(/dev/block/mmcblk0p3) 0
and in following
#ls /cache/recovery
ksmg
-rw------root root 8190724 2022-04-02 11:19 last_ode_dumpstate_err_check_password.log
From what I could see further in log it seems like maybe dr fone tried to root phone since I see files seem to have been overwritten probably as same file name shown where earlier recorded in time stamp as either 2017 or 2008 and underneath that dst is run with today tim stamp.
What would be method to solve to get back to normal working state without any data loss?
It seems when check via dr fone transfer showing as mem capacity 2797mb and 1362mb used whereas it should show as 32Gb, also when start up it says Enter your password to start up your device but I am certain I enter correct passwords but it is not verifying. Also in recovery mode it shows No support single sku supported api:3.
And when try backup option no files come up on scan does that mean the Dr fone recovery package that it installed wiped out the data? Or is it like in another different boot system for recovery? How to solve this problem?
Also any backup software you think could backup stuff before applying any drastic fixes
I think your phone internal storage is corrupted because of Dr. Fone and this is caused by the data encryption inside the phone and I think that it requires the encryption password, and to solve this problem, you must flash a modified recovery like TWRP or CWM and then pull all the data by making a MOUNT of the internal storage it will only works on old Android version 6.x or 7.x but you can try
My android is 6.0.1 so I think it should work, do you have any video tutorials or a thread with stepwise instructions to get twrp or cwm to backup current data and later restore?
Also any idea if use the dr fone repair device feature it might fix?
Dr.Fone only one thing do transfer WhatsApp chat between android and iOS all else features not work perfect so try another way, ask google how mount internal storage on android phones by twrp it’s easy and not need a tutorial just flash a custom recovery and don’t let device to boot enter recovery mode immediately and go to mount and press mtp or mount storage
Looks like the device name has got renamed as well best try to see if have a file explorer or manager for android so can see if files still intact? Any pc softwares that can be used to clarify without need to unlock screen since it is asking for a pass saying Enter your password to start up your device but I am certain I enter correct passwords but it is not verifying.
If the files are intact then I can try twrp or odin cf root flashing to see if can flash home version file so files possibly stay intact. Or if they are anyways not then will try factory reset via recovery mode and then will need recommendation of good software to recover data for free
Any ideas?
That app is trashware. Do Not use!
If a factory reset doesn't clear it you'll need to reflash the stock rom.
The data is lost... that's my opinion.
Always backup all critical data redundantly to at least two hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC... or you will lose data, eventually!
NEVER encrypt a data backup drive.
Do copy/paste file transfer, verify file size and folder count match. Test for readability.
NEVER clone music data bases, copy/paste only.
Do not use compression or apps like SmartSwitch to backup critical data, they can fail you miserably.
You can never have too many backup data drive. Avoid using flash memory; quality hdds have better memory retainment. Store in more than one location. Near lightning strikes can wipe them; a metal earth grounded box or safe is best.

Can you recommend a free pc software that could possibly backup device in current state? Or a free pc software that could do data recovery without need to root phone so if I do go ahead with flash and it wipes data or i do factory reset then I could try to get backup data.

Not on an unrooted phone. You can try this.
If you used Drfone it has likely already encrypted the data with their own encryption key.
Hopefully some of your data is backed up somewhere else because this is a dead horse... I believe.
I be more concerned about salvaging the phone at this point. It's a tough lesson from the U of hard knocks... don't repeat it. Sorry.
