I just finished reading an article on Eweek that indicates that access to the android market in mow available for computers http://market.android.com/....
I don't know if it is only supported on Honeycomb, but I can't wait to get home and try it...
here is the Eweek article also:

I shared your excitement but as I'm sure you discovered, it still does work! You need to log in with a Google ID, but when you do, it tells you that there is no Android phone associated with your account.
I don't have an Android phone but I wonder if I did have one and registered it, would the A7 then be able to access the Market?
Really, Google has made the situation worse because now I can see all the great apps in the Market but can't access them! There more bliss in the ignorance when I couldn't see the apps at all!

Unfortunately, I updated to the Feb 4 firmware 1 day before I learned of of this...so now I wait!
I went to market.android.com on my device. Signed in with my Google Apps account, the same one I used to sign into Google Apps services on my A7. It shows everything I have downloaded using Dexters mod marketplace in it's history or whatever it's called. Also, I can choose install on any non installed app and immediately the app downloads to the A7. I didn't get any messages about the device not being registered. it just seems to work. I am in Canada as that may make a difference.

You can still use Dexter's MOD, you'll just need to do a back up and wipe/reset the device before updating.
Is there another way to get android without Dexer's Mod? My sister is getting one of these and I want to install the Market on it for her but I don't want her to have root (If it were mine it would be a different story). There should be some way to install the market and associated services to run it with an APK file without needing to root it, like my Archos 70.

I have a dumb question! The mod by Bestialbub (What a name!) looks pretty simple, and it is what I am leaning towards. I really like my A7 and do not want to mess with it too much. I may even just decide to wait to see if Elocity comes out with an official patch. I just flashed my unit to the newest firmware. Do I need to do this again, as stated in the first part of the directions, or can I just boot into the recovery mode and flash using the file that I download? Also, what is the risk for doing this? Have many of you ran into issues with it? Thanks!
my market patch works fine w the latest update. check out my twitter under the same name for updated recoveries that will let you backup your rom, flash my mod, and restore back to where you were if you dont like it.
my mods a small one that can be applied anytime over the existing firmware. a factory reset should be done after that will wipe your data and let the google apps install properly on next rom boot.
i would suggest to wipe/factory reset w my clockworkmod recovery (on my twitter) as it should leave your internal storage partition w your media downloads alone. note; i havent actually tried that suggestion (reset) from cwm, but it sounds like a good idea.

I just ran this update, and followed the instructions to the letter. Everything seemed to go well, however, when the device rebooted, I see no Market link. What did I do wrong?
Never mind! I figured it out. The update.zip file I had on my sdcard was the elocity firmware file. I copied the patch to the wrong spot!! DOH!!!.;p).
Alas, Woe is me.
I went and loaded things (wallpapers, eBooks, games, etc.) onto my A7.... then I find this forum!
Is there an easy way (perhaps with a free, non-Marketplace, app) to back up all of this onto an SD card (or even a USB flash drive) and then re-install it after installing one of these mods?
I'm sure I could copy everything over individually, but there's got to be an easier way....is there?
hi,
i brought a HTC DHD from london (Virgin, unlocked) a couple of weeks ago, and im in sudan...and as you've probably guessed, the Android Market is blocked here. The app opens and says "loading" then it closes (goes back to the 'All Apps' menu).
i want to download from the market, and everywhere i go, people tell me to 'root', obviously im new to this concept.
i've read some threads here on this website, but it looks like its a long process, and the "IF ANYTHING HAPPENS ITS NOT OUR FAULT" warning scares me badly.
i want a way to access the market without rooting.
and if there isnt, and rooting is the only way, then what exactly is rooting?
will the way everything works change?
will all my installed apps get deleted?
is the interface different? ( no HTC SENSE?)
and when 2.3 comes out, what do i have to do to upgrade?
NOTE:::
android version -> 2.2.1
baseband version -> 12.2xx...
software number 1.7xxxx
can anyone help?
1. your friends ask you to root is to enable you to use 2 important apps, a. Market enabler, and b. Market enabler codes. Both apps are available in Android market but requires you to root.
2. Rooting, its a process hacking your phone to gain the superuser access where it is not available on stock ROM ( ROM in a sense is the operating software for DHD).
3. Rooting does not remove installed apps. It only 'unlocks' the phone.
4. Rooting enables you to switch ROMs (exp, Android Revolution HD, Cynogen, LeeDroid..). Each ROM offers difference experience in user interface and performance (processing speed aonpd battery life). Users usually find which suits them best and difference regions have different performance albeit similar ROM+kernal+radio (to devs, correct me if I'm wrong here). Some ROM state 'no sense' included which means no HTC Sense is included.
check your email address/ account is correct it stopped my other halfs accessing the market until i changed it.
So now I've rooted my phone successfully and I downloaded market access and market enabler.
But still, I can't open the market.
Is it because my sim card is in the phone?
The main reason for me rooting was to open the market, but I still can't
Alright. From the copy any sim codes of your choosing from market enabler codes, then past.the codes into the market enabler app. Hit apply. Then access the market. You should be alright.
Just download Applanet and use that. Its got tons of free and paid apps and no regional restrictions.

Uninstall it and reinstall the new apk from the site (it will not just update version from the phone)
Oppps, I double posted.
k, i'll try, and tell you what happens
Forgive me if this has been asked, I've searched for an answer and found nothing helpful...
So the new market seems to be problematic, how can I get (and keep) the old market?
IT seems like when I uninstall the updates, its the old market for awhile, then the new market installs?
Also, some items (Netflix and such) don't show up anymore in Market... what gives?
Any help would be great, and I'll click the "thanks button" for anyone who helps me
Edit: this seems to stop the market from updating...

I found this posted over at the HTC Aria forum by user mtnlion and thought somebody might be interested. You can turn off the market updater (which is responsible for bringing the new market back over and over) by going to terminal emulator and typing:
Code:
$ su
# pm disable com.android.vending.updater
This can be re-enabled by doing the same as above but typing enable instead of disable. I've tested it and it appears to persist after reboot. If you already have the new market you can go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Market > Uninstall Updates. This will revert you to the old market. Do it after disabling updater.
This doesn't stop automatic updates of apps according to the other thread. I'm sure some of you already know about this but hopefully it'll help somebody.

Are you reverting to the old market because of the constant FC messages? or do you have other complaints?

Reverting back to the old market because the new market seems to be missing apps (netflix, etc etc) and the fact that the new market looks (and functions) like crap.
I have no issues with FC's... yet.
OK, well I don't want to stray your thread because I'm having a number of other issues with FC's. I'll start another thread.
Good luck.
Uninstall the market update app. (I used Titanium Backup.) Then uninstall the update and you should remain with the old market.
I can't get any updates. As soon as I start to download an update to any installed app, Market force closes. Any ideas?

Nightly 177 from SDcard.
3.0.27
build.prop is as is
Any app I try to update or install new. Here is an example at random: Solitaire by Ken Magic. Tried to install, get the download screen and boom force close.
I'm an inch away from just nuking my card and starting over. It was all happy until I tried updating the Market to the newest one and it's been in a death spiral ever since.
Thanks,
Homer
What I did, was rename marketupdater.apk to marketupdater.apk.bak.
I want to say the file is in /system/app
Then uninstall the market updates.
I don't know if it has anything to do with my market working, but I also did LCD Density to 160 fix. You can find that here on the forums pretty easily... But I read that the LCD Density fix only works a few days.
Mine's been working fine for at least the last week or so with these 2 things.

I think you answered your own question. Uninstall the market updater app. (I used Titanium Backup for this.) Then, go to the settings for the market app and uninstall the update.
I found this but haven't been able to run the linux stuff from terminal emulator (Su fails).
So I can't say if this works or not.
facebookdotcom/note.php?note_id=279479622068267 .... I'm new so I can't hotlink
I'm on SD card to, with CM7. I'd love the old marketplace back, but also settle for having all of the download icons show. (I haven't been able to save edits to my build.prop).
I'm running NexusHD-Gingerbread v2.9 on my HD2. It's a fresh install and I've just discovered that I can't install Facebook, Google Maps, Google Street View, and Google My Tracks (possibly other apps, too) from the market.
Is there something I need to change in the build.prop? Am I overlooking something dead simple?
I have the same problem and have seen the same question posted on several other threads. There does not seem to be a solution across the multiple ROM and platform world. I have tried the build prop edit on my wifes newly flashed HD2 without success. Unfortunately she go t into the game after the last market update..so now she doesn't even get an out of date Utube, Facebook, GoogleMaps etc.. I have suspicion this is a much larger problem but that most people have not noticed because they already have older apps from before market update. Lookse like we have Big Brother Google trying to get us to conform to either buying a new phone or sticking with stock ROM. It would be great if someone could share a permanent solution with our outcast community
To fix this:
1- Go to Market > Titanium Backup > Install .
2- Open Titanium Backup and look for an app called "Market Updater", hit it and choose "Freeze".
3- Download and install a previous version of the Market, say version 2.XX.X, if you cant install it normally, rename the apk to "Vending.apk" and push it to /system/app/ using (adb push Vending.apk /system/app/) or from terminal within phone (su *hit enter* cp /sdcard/vending.apk /system/app/)
4- Go to Settings > Manage Apps > All > Market > Uninstall updates
5- [Skip if your country supports paid apps] Use Market Enabler to set your SIM to T-mobile US.
6- Go to market > Accept Terms and Conditions > Enjoy your Market ! and the INSTALL/BUY button will always be there for you !!
(This is a temporary workaround, until a fix is rolled from Google or whoever.)
Funny, not everyone have this issue, hope the above workaroud works for you.
yea its working great over here and so fast, seriously i found this is the best rom
Thank you, this does get more access to more app downloads. Would be nice to have latest market at some point.

Edit your build.prop and change the screen density to 160.
I have the exact same issue and have tried all the "solutions" I have found, nothing so far helps.
I'm running of an SD, CM7 nightly from August 28, one of the later kernels.
Everything works fine except this #$%^$ market.
Ideas?
Since none of my apps seem to be affected by screen density I simply uninstalled the marker updater app and kept the old market. If you are already on the new market. Uninstall the updater app first and then go into the applications settings for the market and uninstall the last update. Clear the data and cache as well.

Can you direct me to what needs to be changed in build.prop? Thanks.
There should be a line that says
Code:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=161
Just change the number to 160.
I did that, thought there might have been some other line to be edited there that they weren't mentioning. Thanks.

Start up the Terminal. Become Superuser by typing "su" and return.
Remount /system as read/write by typing:
mount -o remount,rw /system
Edit /system/build.prop and change qemu.sf.lcd_density=161 to be 160.
Then go to Applications, force-close Market and clear all its data (but do not uninstall).
Then reboot.
If this still did not work, search the Internet for the latest Google Apps zip from August, 2011. If you have Rom Manager it's the newest one listed under "Download ROM...Google Apps" window. It's even newer than what is offered on download sites that have Phiremod or CM 1.7 RC.
When Market first starts it might ask you to install a list of apps. Choose a couple of them. I've observed that Market will then automatically upgrade itself again when I do this. I've been using the newest Market app with the 160 DPI setting for about a week now and it has never stopped working. I suspect that it might be the newest Google Apps that fixes some of the magic.
Note that some things, like the on-screen keyboard, have letters that are too large due to this setting. It's really supposed to be set to 170 DPI but 160 DPI is the setting that makes the Market app work again.

Thanks. I did finally see it there after I installed Root Explorer. Having access to everything on the NC, it makes me want to root my phone.
This is probably the same problem I have experienced.
Yesterday I install CM7 bootable to a new SD card I just bought. After everything installed, I found that several essential google apps, like maps, youtube, are not able to install. Market complains that my device is not compatible.
However, these apps run properly in my old SD card. The Market from the old card has been updated, and it seems it's working properly as well. I'll check the DPI setting on both card. I don't think they are different because I installed both card through the same build.
Question: how to clone the entire old card to my new card? They are from different brand, old Kingston and new Sandisk. I've used WinImage32 to clone the Kingston to the Sandisk, but it doesn't boot at all.
