With a fresh clean install I sit at about 140 megs free. Once you factor in the cache that build up and everything it's probably closer to 100. You have 100 apps installed and only lost about 12 megs (thanks to apps2sd). It's normal. Why do you need or want more? Based on that you could install 660 more apps before you ran out of free space.

ok just wandering. making sure its normal. is there a app that can keep programs from auto starting. i downloaded one, but it messed with something important that i cant remember at this time. wouldnt let it run

There's also an app called "TA Utility" on the market that lets you move the cache (browser, market, maps etc.) to the SD card as well.

now im down to like 54mb of memory. thats crazy.

low free space?

I have only 120mb of 180 for programs or similar on the device.
Is not very low? It have 512mb, maybe 200 for the rom or so, but 380 in use and only 120 for the user?
WWE ROM is around 280MB AFAIK. I don't know what language ROM you are using, but it definitely shouldn't use 380 MB. You should have slightly less than 200MB available.

Storage size to user is 181.6MB. However it looks like HTC install some apps that use some of this. I have only installed spb wireless monitor, resco explorer and a few other small bits and im down to 105MB
That's annoying. There are things that don't belong in ROM such as navigation software, or the silly Navipanel thingie, and some other stuff that can save around 20-30 megs in a custom ROM. Taking a brief look at the files, I can see how I can free up another 20 or 30 megs by removing other stuff without losing any functionality or the goodies. So custom ROMs will certainly improve things a bit without becoming "lite" or introducing bugs... However, it certainly sucks that they made such a device with such a small storage.
guys kick back, chill out and listen to your selves for a bit, you're complaining because you have over 100 mb of *storage space* left, that's not program memory that's unused wasted space you've paid for and aren't using! LOL
When you're down to 2mb then start worrying about it?
plus there's a 2GB microSD card in the box, not the usual 32 MB card you'd get with your latest 5 MP compact camera.
I ordered myself a 16 GB card to go along anyway. Where are those 32 GB microSD cards SanDisk anounced in spring 2008 anyways?

i had to hard reset my phone because the second day my memory was full
i couldn't install mobile shell 3.5
so, i think its an issue
I think this is an issue too.
I've only installed 1/2 the apps I had on my HD, and I've got just over 20MB left. I had shed-loads left on the HD, even after installing everything I want!
Don't want to start flashing ROMs on a brand new phone, but maybe a lite version is the way to go.
Just have to wait and see what the chefs cook up.

On my Touch HD I'm using around 180 megs of internal storage, and I don't store any documents, photos, videos or any other user files there, my SatNav app is on the storage card. So this is all taken by mail and apps.

In this case lite ROMs seem to be the only reasonable way to go. Like I said earlier, it's easy to free up some 50-60 megs (even more actually if we remove sample pictures, some ringtones etc.) without losing functionality, and keeping the ROM quite "full". SatNav just has nothing to do in internal memory when you have 512 megs of it, I don't know what they were thinking putting it there.
don't forget to change the cache in opera to your storage card as it is set to default on internal. Also of course use storage card for mail attachments.

confused over ram/rom/nand & partition size

I'm currently using imilka's Gingerbread Sense nand build (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989289).
I was reading: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...72&postcount=7 trying to understand, with little luck.
I have the TMOUS version of the HD2, with the suggested 350 meg partition. I'm also using APP2SD and have everything possible moved to my SD card (which in my case is around 500 megs in 200 or so programs).
I currently have 162 mb available according to APP2SD.
According to Absolute System, I have 350 MB in system, with 9mb free. If I understand correctly - this is used to hold the o/s (this gingerbread build) PLUS any frameworks I can squeeze into the 9mb, like a circle battery or bootup animation.
Absolute System confirms in data I have 162 mb free.
OSMonitor says I have 48 Megs free btw. And I've un-installed things running in the background that I don't need, but looks like the o/s will just leave other programs open - it looks like it tries to leave about 45-50 free at all times.
SO - why am I getting warning that I am low in memory?? I am now using SPB Shell 3D, which does use 35-40 megs of memory (yes, quite a bit) and want to compensate for it.
Is the 162 remaining used only for app installs?
Is the memory running apps like Shell 3D coming from the 350?
Since I have 160 megs free, can I re-allocate say 25-50 megs more to the o/s for Shell 3D and other apps to use?
If I need to re-partition to a different amount, would I then flash say a 400mb over (cause I tried that initially and remember being laughed at for not following post #1 which asked for 350+). If I do this, I presume I can CWR backup, re-flash partition, then restore..?
Another possibility would be to use the SD card option - can I use this method to say make a 2 gig partition for *all* apps on my sd card, and leave *all* internal memory for Android to run?
Help!

after rooting and moving all apps to sd why internal memory only 80 mb left

hey guys
I know that this has been asked many times, but what am I missing here, I rooted my play, moved all the apps via titanium to my sd card and I am left with only 80 mb.
I have about 240 apps installed
the biggest apps are 10 of gameloft games and IGO
1- what can I delete to increase internal memory
2- another question when I download apps from the market do apks get stored in the internal memory.
I am really confused about whats the use of moving to sd card if I will only have about 80 mb left in the internal memory.
This means I should start deleting apps, what a bummber as there are many more apps I wanna install
Try clearing caches.
After root I use an app called cache mate for root users.
It freed up a good 40mb for me on its 1st run.
i already did use cache mate
any other suggestions please?
Every app that you install left something on the internal mem, to use stuff like widgets etc, so if you cant live with 80mb (my nexus one is always with around 20mb) you will have to uninstall some of the apps, specially the ones that cant be moved to the SD...
The problem is that there is only one app that is left in the internal memory now and still only 80 mg.

well, perhpads i was not clear enough on my previous post...
no matter if you move all apps to SD, still, each app left a piece of it on the internal mem, if you have 240 apps, and each of them leaves 1mb, then you have 240mb used...
If you want some free mem, the best choice will be to get rid of some of the 240 apps, normally i dont use more than 10 and a couple of games...check what you have installed, probably half of them are junk...

Tips to free up space by deleting cache, .thumbnail, etc. Please contribute more tip

Hmm, really wierd. I just noticed today something unexpected happened. In the app manager under downloaded, it says device memory is 8.1GB free. But under storage it says avail space 6.3GB free. So which is right? I installed like 4 apps today and there's not any that would use anywhere close to 2GB. not sure if some apps screw this up. Any idea what I should do?
Also under storage, misc section it says 1.7GB used but clicking on it doesn't show anything using more than a few hundred kb.
Edit: well, i finally found the culprit. I went to application manager and click on the recent apps I used today. the google drive cache shows 1.6GB. cleared that cache restores the free space in storage to the expected 8GB.
It's crazy about these things. How the hell did google drive cache get to 1.6GB? I justed installed that today and just used it one time to upload a 400MB video file to the cloud.... This really put a bad taste to start out. Think i might just have to uninstall it.. HAd to go into google drive and did a clear cache and set cache to 25 mb.
Also went into \Phone\Android\data\com.google.android.apps.docs\files\pinned_docs_files_do_not_edit folder. deleted the .thumbnail file that was 400MB and created a dummy file with same name to prevent android from recreating this file. Gallery browsing still works afterward, possibly slower but who fcking care if it would take 5 more secs to load my images if this can prevent massive built up of this file eventually.
Under the misc files section in storage, it still says 500MB. Would be nice to be able to clean out even more. Anyone can share some more tips for cleaning out these kind of garbage comsumming space?

Continually "insufficient storage"

I have a rooted S5 w/ 16GB of internal storage, but I'm rarely able to update/download new apps. I have to scrounge for apps to delete for a half hour just to get it to let me download a new app or update an app. I have moved just about all the apps I can to the SD card (32GB, less than half used).
In the storage screen it says I have used 14.88GB in apps, and <20MB in everything else with "Free space" around 400-500MB. I usually have to get it to mid 500s before it will let me do anything on it. To make matters worse, somehow the apps I uninstall keep reinstalling themselves.
My problem seems to be this big "Applications" thing - which isn't right. I have some large apps, but they keep all their data on the SD card (like podcasts with PocketCasts). On my applications manager, from top down in size - facebook @ 190MB, google play services at 156MB, google app at 134MB... dropping off fairly quickly after that, so no way its 15GB worth.
What am I missing? Do others constantly have this problem? It is getting ridiculous! No reason that I can see that there should be a big bunch of stuff that is counted as used when it isn't.
Some things I've tried:
I heard about something the dumpstate/logcat, I cleared it but nothing got better
I used adb to set the default install location to the external SD card (I forget the exact command), as far as I can tell it is still trying to install in the internal SD card.
Any suggestions or more information needed?
EDIT:
More information thanks to DiskUsage (forgot I can download APKs - which install fine). It shows my internal SD card breakdown as 10796MB overall, 2612MB app data, 7815MB "System data", and 340MB free space (plus some other misc. that makes up the difference). I don't have a great understanding of how this is partitioned, but I'd imagine the ~16GB has 5GB off limits for ROM stuff? Then what is taking up nearly 8GB as "System data"? Is this normal?
EDIT 2:
Looks like it was creating duplicates in data/app (on a lot of phones I think this is data/app-lib). I used root explorer to purge the duplicates, and now have nearly 3GB free instead of a couple hundred MB!
I have the same problems but I use DiskUsage from the Play Store. Most of the time it's my cache for the download manager has several gigs of wasted space. Clearing cache fixes it for me.

I'll check that out the next time I am able to install an app but I should mention I also tap the "cached data" in the storage manager thing (in settings). Usually doesn't work I also use CleanMaster, which seems like it works, some times.
EDIT: Just checked it out, that's awesome! I have been looking for this kind of app, I use WinDirStat on windows that does something similar.
