European Sound Limitation - HD2 General

Hi,
As usual, we have a sound limitation in Europe that make this mobile phone unusable to listen music in the metro.
Do you have some idea to remove this limitation ?
Modify a file, registry ?
Thanks for your help.

Probably, and take care of other passengers in the train
who are forced to eavesdrop on your Susan Boyle playlist
But .. .seriously... this limit has to be removed if we can, because we can.

It's a reg setting but HD TWeak from the Touch HD still works to set this. I used it to remove the limitation as my hearing isn't great.
I have set mine to maximum.
Music playback still seems much quiter than on the HD, and I'm comvinced it occasionally reduces volume randomly!

Humm, interesting. DOes anyone know the actual registry key(s) which need to be modified, and how? I try to avoid installing tweaking software when I can just go into regedit and change things myself...
TIA

Use proper headphones and keep your noise to yourself.

in case you are one of those persons that walk around playing their ****ty music on their phones speaker ... then go and DIE!
In case you use earphones, get some in-ear plugs, that should cover the problem of noise around you.

I would be careful of in-ear monitors as they called, I have used quite a few mainly ultimate ears ue10 pro. Its been a couple of years, but I am now starting to suffer from serious problems with my right ear. So yes do take very good care of your ears cause trust me when the problems start, you will long for the day when you had perfect hearing.

Lower volume

Hi all,
I tend to use a BT headset with my Athena most of the time, but today I forgot it before going out! so I had to go back to using the Athena to my ear, not a huge problem with hands my size, however even with the volume down to its lowest it was still way to loud. Does anyone know of a reg hack or small program that will let you lower the volume down to a discreet volume, and not a hands free volume? its not a problem most of the time, but as a paramedic some of my calls can be a little personal. Its just in case it happens again. you can appreciate I'm not in the position to nip home for left items
Many thanks

I put my fingers over the loudspeakers.... isn't confortable but it works!
I have been thinking about this issue a bit lately myself. My thought is to glue something over both the left and right speaker to completely or almost completely seal it. I might try with different materials and see the effect. May be we can make it almost like a normal embedded earpiece.. just thinking.

hi
i already tried to put tape over the speakers, and can tell you it wont work out. it is like the hole athena will sound, the backcover acts like a speaker. when you tape the speaker holes it sounds a litle bit like it came from a cave, but is still much to loud for a 'private' conversation. i think you have to grab a soldering iron and a resistor, to come to a solution, or someone find a way to reduce the volume by software some more than the volume slider can do.
mad
Buy several cheap sets of earbuds and put them in different locatations where you might need them (car, office, briefcase). Not needing stereo for phone calls, clip off one of the earbuds for easier handling.

Well that is a good idea, and one that I have done already. One at the ambulance station, one at home, one in the car, and one in the rig. three ended back at home AHH the price of age! The one in the rig got nicked, so ive put them all back now, but thats why I need the program or hack.
Thanks for the idea's guys, any more?
take care

That is a good idea, could it be so, that there is a kinds of software, that we can adjust the volumen of left and right speaker, so that we can just use the right speaker or just use the left speaker, what ever. has anybody heard of that kind of tiny little soft ware?
Is there a regestry setting to lower the in call volume on the athena itself, so it would start at nothing?
Any solution on this "problem"? Sometimes my headset runs out of battery.
Regards
Hans
This only seems to be a problem with some of the cooked ROMS. The original WM6 ROM that came with my 7501 had a good low-volume level, but when I switched to AP4 the low-end is what used to be about mid-level before.
It must be either a registry change, or a sound driver.
Or a software that make it possible to decrease the volume more

[idea] Drop down call volume when using headset

Hey guys and gals,
Listening to some nice easy listening jazz music (sys vol 40%),I received a phonecall. WOW, I thought my head exploded, thats how loud the ringtone was. After gently rubbing my ears for 15 minutes I remembered HTC audio booster only works when I click in my headset. This gave me an idea.
Is hit somehow possible to write an app that automaticly drops down the callvolume with a given percentage? That would really prolongue my musical career!
Hope you guys can think of something! thnx in advance
I would like to see this too. I have the same problem.
seeing the amount of replies I reckon there is already a solution for this issue? Care to share?

I don't know it there's already a method to do that... I'm also interested, I think it's a big software bug
It would be great something like Nokia's profile changer. When you connect the headphones, change the profile to vibrate mode
I need it too, it's actually quite dangerous, especially with those vacuum in ear headphones.
yes, I have the same problem!

Touch HD incredibly loud through headphones?

Anyone find it incredibly loud through headphones both system sounds and the touch flo music player? I have to have it all the way down to 1 bar in the system volume control.
Funnily enough coreplayer will play at reasonable volumes.
EDIT: maklik found a great solution. Volume reduced for headphones but still plays loud if not plugged in
maklik said:
u may edit the registry file:
Local_machine\software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\SavedHandSetVolume
Change DWORD to 0
plug in the headphone and adjust the system volume to 2-3%
u may find that if you once plug headphone into your mobile the volume will adjust to previous volume you saved, if you plug it out, the volume will restore to normal
question2,
the music too loud, you can edit the registry to fix it too
Local_machine\software\HTC\AudioManger_eng\Config\music_player_volumn
Change the DWORD to 10 or lower and soft-reset the mobile
the music will become lighter in the TouchFLO3D music player
sorry for poor eng, i come from HK ~ cheers

Usually phones are to quiet. that is an odd problem.
I'm having the same problem when listening streming radio station with my active Bose headphones. I have Media Player down to 5% volume but it is still quite loud. CorePlayer is ok, but that doesn't play the streaming format my station is using.
I'm finding it ok.
But you can use HD Tweak or Config Tool to lower the volume in the reg settings, that way it should be fine.

Have the same loud sound through the headphones even at lowest level. I prefer it after having a quietish Polaris. I think I remember seeing all the settings at 100 in the registry files so may be it is undoable?
Wow, are you kidding? I find it absolutely not loud at all!!... But I have a german (europe) version, so perhaps its the limitation... Does anyone know how to get this limitation away?? Please, I really searched a lot, but didn't find anything with my keywords and my fantasy is out now... So, I think there must be a cab or something like this, if anyone knows it, please post it or give me the link^^ greez, cad
@Cadenza: You should be able to remove the limitation using "HD Tweak"
Same problem here though: Sounds too loud for me ...
Thank you very much for your answer!!! Its true, I didn't try until now HD-tweak, only Advanced config and this doesn't have this option. So thanks a lot, I'll try this^^ haha, I want it loooud ok, now btt, I'm sorry that I post so offtopic, I really don't want to disturb you here but thanks a lot!!! Greez, cad^^
I gotta agree its very loud even at the lowest setting. I've just installed HD Tweak and see no way to lower my sound as the EU limitation is already active.
It's a funny problem to have, it is usually the opposite with anything you buy in the EU, maybe i can sue htc if i go deaf . If it makes any difference I use in ear earphones (otherwise you can't hear anything on London underground) could that be the cause?
Figure there mut be a registry setting somewhere to control this.
I also think it's way too loud, even though I've got a danish version, which should be limited... I dunno.
In wmp it's no problem though, cause it has it's own volume control.
HD tweak only allows to up the volume, not to lower it. Anybody got an idea?
LOL
Just tried mine and about blew my ears off! LOL
funny
Lol that were my thoughts exactly when I used my earphones for the first time! I only tested it on my own sennheisers though, not on the stock phones. Can anyone confirm that I can change this using that Tweak tool?
It's even worse through my UE Super.Fi 5 Pro as it approximately double the loudness compared to standard headphones. I hardly ever go above level 1 or 2.
I can't imagine what it would be like at level 15... Probably blow up my headphones.
Level 1 is not so bad during the day with lots of external noise but at night it's too loud!
no fix for this?
I thought s2p would help me get around this but I agree its still too loud... I like to sleep to music and this verges on painful on all but the very lowest setting... I've switched to a headset I use on my computer for voip calls that has a volumn control but I would much prefer a solution that allows me to use my Bose earbuds
using wmp solves the problem, as it has it's own volume control. But I want to use the htc player in tfl3d.

Please, I have now a big peoblem, the HD tweak didn't work as I thought... I have the UE Super.Fi 5 Pro, too, and I hear all the time at FULL volume!!! In every programm!!! And for me its way to silent..... Ok, if its the wrong thread, please tell me and I'll open a thrad for myself, but my problem is really that my HD is much to silent....... I'm really jealous about you all here!!!! Sorry, but I'm worried... Do you think that my HD is damaged? Sh*t.... Greez, cad^^

Sounds like you have a faulty Touch HD. I would backup your stuff and try a hard reset to see if this issue still persists.
No way I can turn to max volume. I would go deaf...
Hi Guys, I also have UE super.fi 5 pro's and find the HD stupidly loud! The only way I can listen to music before I go to sleep is to have the volume on the lowest setting and turn all the equaliser settings down to minimum! Any Help yet?!

Headphone louder

I used my X1 to listen mp3 via headphone plug (3.5mm plug not Bluetooth) and Parrot Party Black (http://www.parrotshopping.com/fr/p_parrot_item.aspx?i=164978). I've in,creased sound everywhere: from Windows panel, from Windows palyer, and from the Parrot. But it's still not enough loud.
How can I do to increase volume of the headphone? Thx
Use a Software called MP3Gain to increase the volume of the Song files in your computer and then add them to Xperia.
which headphones are u using?
I uses this speaker Parrot Party Black with 3,5 mm plug.
Good idea. I know MP3gain.
Do you have an other way but to listen web radio, MP3gain doesn't work.

U should try other equipment also ..maybe the speaker isnt loud enuff?
I have the same problem, and I don't think the equipment is to blame. My earbuds will blow my head off on other devices, but the Xperia just doesn't seem to be putting out enough volume.
I know there are some nanny state regulations in Europe that require manufacturers to restrict their max volume, but is this really what SE has done on their international X1i? Seems a shame that the rest of the world has to suffer from European bureaucracy.
Max volume must be controlled in the registry somewhere. I've experimented with several suggestions elsewhere in these forums but have yet to find the answer.
I use philips sport-earplugs for running and I listen to MP3s with my phone during that (the internal GPS draws me the route I was running and measures the time -excellent sport-device ).
Most of the time i have the volume at 50 to 60% and it's very loud, 80% and more would definitely blow my eardrums out after short time.
So I cannot complain about the volume, it's awesome and approximately as loud as my Sony MW-S202 music player with the same earplugs.

I use smartrunner http://www.smartrunner.de/pages/ which works fine with google maps. The software is free and runs great, but uses 640x480p, so on the bottom the screen is white which is no problem. But it's a german version, don't know if there is an english one outthere too.

This Parrot is noud enough but not withe the X1.
I will try via Bluetooth.
to get it louder you need to edit audiopara file, please make sure you read the mods sticky at the top of the forum before posting new threads on same old subjects
a quick search would reveal that there are several threads already on the volume issues.
theres another freeware gps app that works well if also only vga, in the diamond forum, called gps cyle computer. i use this quite a lot, very simple stylish and effective

Volume hack possible?

I know on some other Android phone's (e.g. G1 http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f4/volume-increase-hack-found-18107/), a software modification has allowed for much higher volume.
Not sure if actually increases the speaker volume as well, or just through headphones?
+1 for the speaker!
Agree! The speaker is WAY too low!!!
/CK
+1 here too
It would be nice, the speaker is crazy quiet.
i wonder wot the reason was for them to keep it at that level of sound and is way to queit
Or it possible use the front speaker for avi/video/streaming?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
It seems everyone has the low volume speakers.
I noticed that Angry Birds seems to be a little bit louder than other things.
Anyway, I highly urge everyone that thinks this is a problem to give this feedback to the HTC customer support. Obviously this is the only way to get an official fix for this quicker, if at all.
Wonder if the speaker can handle a increase in max volume.
Anyway, aren't there hidden service menus on the Desire HD that can be triggered with a phone code? In the service menus of a phone there are always some nice parameters to tweak.
I tried some general codes, but none of them seems to work (except the *#*#INFO#*#* of course, but that's a general hidden android menu... even works on the emulator)
until we get access to the rom via Bootloader, there is no general tweak we can do.
However, just for music, try PowerAmp from the market. It has a great pre-amp setting to boost the volume (be careful not to blow your speakers though)
We want increasement in the general speaker volume... Not just music

You can do that, but you will need a script to do that at every launch, since /system write is not permanent.
Furthermore, after each time you adb push the files, you need to restart mediaserver in order pull in the new settings.
Last but not least, you will need to modify the DHD audiopara, since the G2 might not work well.
To make the long story short... SPAM HTC's EMAIL!!

I experienced the same, missing calls because the damn volume is just too low!
Also, when you use the speakers when having a phone call, you can't even hear the person unless you're in an absolutely quiet room... The same goes for music, youtube, navigation..... Anything!!!??!?

I returned mine because of the low speaker volume. I was missing 99% of calls because I couldn't hear the phone ringing. In my business I just can't afford to miss calls. As I sold my normal desire to get this phone I had to buy an Orange San Francisco to use till something else comes along.
I was playing with a friend's Nokia N8 & have to say the speaker quality & loundness is outstanding on it. Also used as a phone its much better than the DHD. Shame the OS is a bit dodgy.
speaker
I am not sure if you are speaking about speakers of DHD in general or just about external. Well, Ive sent back my DHD to Vodafone because call speaker was so useless that I could not even hear other person when I had TV on. Hopefully it was just one bad piece but its apparent that HTC fcked up DHD with poor quality speakers in general. I am waiting for my phone replacement and even when I know that it would be hard to say DHD goodbye I am afraid Ill have to if speaker quality will be that bad again
http://www.bel.fi/~alankila/android-dsp/
Why don't we use this... compile libaudioflinger and DSP Manager, in which we can set presets (you can +10 every channel of sound, so it comes out 10x louder).
Good luck compiling... I couldn't find an example
http://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_frameworks_base <-- libaudioflinger is in /libs/ (yes it's default in Cyanogenmod)
http://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_DSPManager DSP Manager android application, yes everyone should be able to compile this one
