If you're looking to get rid of the menu bar at the bottom of the Today Screen, read on. This is not a new tip, but might save you time, as there's a lot of different versions of these programs flying around. Only the one below works on WM6 / HTC Touch.
I personally find that the Menu Bars at the bottom of the Today Screen really spoil the look of the HTC Touch's sleek black/grey theme. Besides, the Comm Manager and Contacts are both accessible via the spinning cube (or the camera button if you install Double Launcher) so there's no need to have on the Today Screen, you may as well get more space for plugins, or just to keep everything looking neat and tidy. See screenshot below!
Here's how to banish them forever (?!) :
1. Download ToggleTodayIIAlpha from this link:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe
2. Copy it to your \Windows\Startup directory. (or somewhere else and paste a shortcut instead)
3. Go into the registry and edit this key:
HKLM/Software/Vijay555/VJTodayToggle
Change these keys:
Softkeysize = 1
StartSize = 26
TrayVisible = 1
That's it! I've had no massive problems with this so far, although I haven't been testing it for too long. I'd be interested to hear how people get on in terms of stability/bugs. You WILL get problems if you try to use any of the older VJTodayToggle programs in the thread on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243211
(SIP keyboard staying on, SIP moving to the top of the screen, menu titles disappearing but not the background, etc.)
...in fact, that's precisely why I'm sharing this info with you, as this thread is 39 pages long and it's only towards the end that things become totally clear! I'll post again if there's any unexpected side-effects, I'm currently minimising BatteryStatus and I don't know whether this will
Good luck!
Carlos
NOTES / ADVANCED
=======================
A: If you want to make your screen even neater AND still overclock your Touch, then, in step 3 above, you can make TrayVisible=0 then you can minimise the BatteryStatus plugin and it won't show up on your today screen. (right click on batterystatus icon, choose 'show rows -> minimise') I haven't tested this properly yet.
B: If you want to explore hiding the Start Menu, feel free, it looks superb when you first do it, but then I have found that the HTC biotouch (spinning cube) automatically re-instates the start menu bar when it's deactivated each time.
C: Please note, this program ( tt2.exe) DOES NOT TOGGLE, even though it's called that! Again, it's a 39 page thread, I warned you...
D: You can also run TT2.exe with a -config option to avoid editing the registry, but this would actually make the above even more long-winded to explain to any n00bs.
E: A nice new HTC wallpaper is doing the rounds without the logo. (As you can see from my screenshot, it's mis-positioned with the extra screen space) See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830
F: Vijay555 has been meaning to release a new (non-alpha) version of the software for some time, but sounds pretty busy. He seems like an all-round splendid guy though and I'd like to thank him for this software and his continued postings/programming.
I have the HTC X7500 WM6 and I've been desperate to make it works.
I've been trying other version from the 40 pages thread, so I'll try this one and I will post result.

Good luck! The honest truth is that after I'd posted this, I discovered a couple of bugs that appeared in soak testing. I gave up in the end - it worked 90% but I would still occasionally get conflict, e.g. the SIP keyboard would appear at the top of the screen sometimes and only a soft reset would put it back where it was meant to be!

Yep I confirm that, SIP keyboard is there, and sometimes as well softkeys stay there after softreset.
Well actually for me it's even worse, it's hiding the system tray (the bar just above the softkeys bar) where we can add shortcuts icons and keep the softkeys bar enabled..
Im disappointed but thks for vijay555 for all the efforts
Perfect... without HTC Logo is even better...
Thanks Carlos,
I've just installed and its working fine. With the clean background from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830 looks even better.
Cheers,
Marcelo

See my original post, have you tried setting TrayVisible=1 in the registry, this should show the system tray.
I followed exactly what u posted, it displayed it correctly the first time, then after soft reset it was displaying only the softkeys bar and hiding the system tray bar
Thks anyway
How does this look on screens BESIDES the today screen? I have used other programs on different WM phones in the past and although the bottom bar disappears on the today screen, it is still on other screens.
Also, can you use the bottom of the screen or is it just dead space? Some of us have moved the HTC Home Plug to the bottom of the page and if it is just dead space, it is going to look bad....

The menu bar is visible on other screens, this behaviour is by design. I cannot see why anybody would want it invisible on other screens, as you normally need those softkeys for menus in most programs!
As far as I know you can use the bottom of the screen, it is not dead space. But why not try it out - it's unlikely to do any harm. You can always delete it from your startup directory to uninstall if you don't want it.

Well it works well so far.....(Not my screen, Neo's screen @ HoFo)
I can't remember if the TrayVisible setting even works - I think it was something I was intending to build in, but never got around to it.
Apologies... I'm kinda programming again, had lots going on, so never finished the app. Sorry for you guys having to use my unfinished piece of cr*p. I'll make it work properly one day!

HELP!!!
I installed this, but I don't know how to get into the registry from an .exe file, so I just tried to open the file through my phone, and instead it has hidden my start bar, as well as the bottom bar. How do I reverse this???

How did you "move" the HTC Home plugin to the bottom part of the Today-screen without any plugin above it? I searched all over the forums, but I cannot find the answer to this question

Just soft reset your phone.

Use the HTC Home customizer to "unlock" it. Then you can move it around like normal.
However, it doesn't redraw correctly on the right side if you unlock it, and a scrollbar comes and goes.
i have a other solution!! PCM shrink installe it and your bar remove it s very easier! For become to the original config juste delete the programmz!!
won't stick
Hi..very nice and easy Zip File..just one problem: the toggle won't stick after a soft reset = one has to go into File Explorer..double click the Toggle File and only than the screen is "clean" again.
Any way to make the toggle "stick"?
I have not this problem! I install the cab i going on the explorer and today shrink and clik on after i reboot my pda ans the bar not appear ... You can try put a abbreviated of today skrink in WINdows/started for star the application automatic on windows sartup
the result of the appl:
I have this running at startup on my Tilt, works with screen rotations and everything! And the hard keys are still mapped to calendar and contacts for quick access, awesome.
Many thanks, couldn't stand those useless soft keys before.

To be able to use my HTC Home with giant Wisebar Desktop icons at the bottom.
Currently, under my HTC home I have my Live Search text entry bar. Then under that is my Pocket Sports Center. However, there is nothing below that which leaves me approx. 1/4 of my screen unused. I want to get rid of my soft keys Calender (left) and iContacts (right) and use those big icons I've seen.
Basically, I want this...
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3390&d=1195825266
but I want a calender icon (left) & this "corded phone" icon (right) that will launch my calender & iContacts, respectively. Hell, if a Comm Manager icon could be squeezed between 'em that would be even better.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32131&d=1166278224
What program and icon set do I need to accomplish this? I'm not a total stranger to this but still learning...so a brief "how-to" would be extremely useful as well.
Well Wisbar is definitely your answer. Head on over to LakeridgeSoftware.com and download the free trial for Wisbar Advance Desktop. It will give you a 7 day trial fully functional, so you can see whether or not you want to keep it (for 10 bucks i think its very much worth it).
It's difficult to use at first, make sure you use the forums on the website to get yourself oriented, but once you learn it, it's incredibly versatile and pretty much limitless to what you can make your phone look like.
I'm fairly experienced with it and will gladly help you out if you run into any problems, but for what you're looking to do I think it should be very simple. WAD has an option built right in to disable the bottom contacts/calendar bar, but make sure you have the HTC home customizer installed so you can unlock the plugin so you can use it when WAD is running.
Let me know if you need any help, I'm sure I could help you throw something together for your christmas stocking lol
OK, so I got WAD installed. I've had HTC Home Customizer installed for sometime now. All I want to do is keep my phone exactly the same way it is now but replace the soft keys with icons.
Can ya give me a quick run down of what switches to toggle and all that?
I'm still trying to find those icons.
Discontinued, please go to this thread for the new version.
Looking good Angelusz, and I swear the landscape fix actually switches faster now that I'm using your skin for it!
The only things I'd change (if I knew how):
1. Combine the new E-mail/new SMS into one button that just takes me to the messaging section rather than starting a new one already.
2. get rid of the little blue square that you see when you press a button (if thats even possible)
3. add a calculator button (i use the calc alot)
Either way, this is great work and thank you for making it.
I could actually combine Sms and email, as indeed it can both be controlled from outlook. I think I will add the calc, as it's a useful tool to have in the landscape mode.
Funny thing is, I noticed the smoother transition too. Perhaps tweaking that ini helped a bit.
I can't get rid of the blue square just yet. It's a problem in how the rltoday is hardcoded. Still looking into that and will update as soon as possible.
Awesome, I cant wait to see the update!
EDIT: Another quick question, is there a way to make this landscape fix work when I press a softkey mapped to <Rotate Screen> in addition to opening the keyboard? If so then a buttone that takes me directly to albums would be useful as well.
Edit 2: oops didnt see the update at the top.
I have the T-mobile USA HD2. How do I disable the calendar appointment from appearing on the startup lock screen? I use a password used to unlock.

Excellent question...I've been searching for that also.
Kill 2 birds with one stone!
You could install Co0kie's Home Tab 1.6.1 together with his CHTEditor which should allow for the configuration you require via the multitude of Appointment options.
It's probably a must have cab at any rate, and you'll be killing 2 birds with one stone!
You won't be dissappointed.
you can delete the appointment layer in the lock screen file.

Hi. I quite agree with your praising of CHT and CHTE, but I can't find the option to not show the next appointment on lock screen. Are you sure you don't mean the option in CHTE to hide appointments on the on home screen ("Show appointments")? Or am I looking in the wrong place?
Yep, i had thought the 'hide appointments' would do it for you.
It seems samsamuel post above might be what you are looking for.
OK. I guess cookies home tab does just what the name says, edit the tabs on home screen. Will see if I take a closer look on that editing tool for the lock screen. Just seems a little more work and risk of screwing things up. But then again it might be pretty simple once you go through it
its only a simple file that you are editing. if you can read xml/html them just open the file in notepad and erase everything between the appointment tags.
just keep a copy of thee original and if it doesn't work just change it back. no danger.
OK. I might give it a try. It sounds far fetched but do you have an opinion on weather it's something in this file that can be editet to get the notifications options to pause or dismiss (back) on lock screen. A bit more explanation her http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660813

Thanks for the advice. I was able to delete the appointment from the lock screen with Chome Visual Editor.
I just downloaded the latest Verizon ROM for my HTC Touch Pro 2 which includes the new 2.5 Manila. It's different enough to be... well a bit annoying I can't seem to figure out a few things with the new interface
1) How do I get my calender to show up on the Home screen? I like the quick links thing but I sorta need the calendar more.
2) For some odd reason that 'program selector' thing in the upper right hand corner is gone now. Is this normal on Manila 2.5? I liked being able to see what programs I left open by accident and such.
3) When you read emails in landscape the font is really really weird looking, Very jagged and not smoothed at all. It looks fine in portrait mode. Any thoughts on this? It looks almost like a scaling issue of some kind.
4) Why is "all settings" in a sub menu, when it's the only option there?!!? Just make it a damn button or just replace "Menu" with "All Settings" Seems like a stupid UI decision
Ok what the hell now the 'Font Smoothing' option in personalize doesn't even work anymore! I check the box but the font no longer smooths. I click "Ok" in the upper right, or do "back" in the lower left. Nothing... I'm really beginning to think of going back to the 3.1 ROM if I can.... is this normal?

1) Not sure if thats possible. But you can have appointments show..
2) What you're looking for is called Task Manager..
- JD's Task Manager - Get it here
- HTC Task Manager - Get it here
3) Enable ClearType in Landscape..
1. Go to: HKLM\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings\OffOnRotation
2. Change value to 0 (DWORD decimal)
3. Soft Reset
4) Stop Settings from going to Settings Tab..
1. With Total Commander remove settings.lnk from Windows\Start Menu\Programs\
2. Go to :HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo\HideSettings
3. Change the default value from 1 to 0
4. Softreset
Cool those tips really fixed up quite a few of my annoyances.
How do you get appointments onto the home page? I can't seem to get a way to get them to show up. Ironically they show up in the lock screen
I'm not sure why the font smoothing is a registry key and disabled in landscape mode. I honestly can't think of why this is so? Mostly just curious.
