If you're looking to get rid of the menu bar at the bottom of the Today Screen, read on. This is not a new tip, but might save you time, as there's a lot of different versions of these programs flying around. Only the one below works on WM6 / HTC Touch.
I personally find that the Menu Bars at the bottom of the Today Screen really spoil the look of the HTC Touch's sleek black/grey theme. Besides, the Comm Manager and Contacts are both accessible via the spinning cube (or the camera button if you install Double Launcher) so there's no need to have on the Today Screen, you may as well get more space for plugins, or just to keep everything looking neat and tidy. See screenshot below!
Here's how to banish them forever (?!) :
1. Download ToggleTodayIIAlpha from this link:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe
2. Copy it to your \Windows\Startup directory. (or somewhere else and paste a shortcut instead)
3. Go into the registry and edit this key:
HKLM/Software/Vijay555/VJTodayToggle
Change these keys:
Softkeysize = 1
StartSize = 26
TrayVisible = 1
That's it! I've had no massive problems with this so far, although I haven't been testing it for too long. I'd be interested to hear how people get on in terms of stability/bugs. You WILL get problems if you try to use any of the older VJTodayToggle programs in the thread on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243211
(SIP keyboard staying on, SIP moving to the top of the screen, menu titles disappearing but not the background, etc.)
...in fact, that's precisely why I'm sharing this info with you, as this thread is 39 pages long and it's only towards the end that things become totally clear! I'll post again if there's any unexpected side-effects, I'm currently minimising BatteryStatus and I don't know whether this will
Good luck!
Carlos
NOTES / ADVANCED
=======================
A: If you want to make your screen even neater AND still overclock your Touch, then, in step 3 above, you can make TrayVisible=0 then you can minimise the BatteryStatus plugin and it won't show up on your today screen. (right click on batterystatus icon, choose 'show rows -> minimise') I haven't tested this properly yet.
B: If you want to explore hiding the Start Menu, feel free, it looks superb when you first do it, but then I have found that the HTC biotouch (spinning cube) automatically re-instates the start menu bar when it's deactivated each time.
C: Please note, this program ( tt2.exe) DOES NOT TOGGLE, even though it's called that! Again, it's a 39 page thread, I warned you...
D: You can also run TT2.exe with a -config option to avoid editing the registry, but this would actually make the above even more long-winded to explain to any n00bs.
E: A nice new HTC wallpaper is doing the rounds without the logo. (As you can see from my screenshot, it's mis-positioned with the extra screen space) See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830
F: Vijay555 has been meaning to release a new (non-alpha) version of the software for some time, but sounds pretty busy. He seems like an all-round splendid guy though and I'd like to thank him for this software and his continued postings/programming.
I have the HTC X7500 WM6 and I've been desperate to make it works.
I've been trying other version from the 40 pages thread, so I'll try this one and I will post result.

Good luck! The honest truth is that after I'd posted this, I discovered a couple of bugs that appeared in soak testing. I gave up in the end - it worked 90% but I would still occasionally get conflict, e.g. the SIP keyboard would appear at the top of the screen sometimes and only a soft reset would put it back where it was meant to be!

Yep I confirm that, SIP keyboard is there, and sometimes as well softkeys stay there after softreset.
Well actually for me it's even worse, it's hiding the system tray (the bar just above the softkeys bar) where we can add shortcuts icons and keep the softkeys bar enabled..
Im disappointed but thks for vijay555 for all the efforts
Perfect... without HTC Logo is even better...
Thanks Carlos,
I've just installed and its working fine. With the clean background from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830 looks even better.
Cheers,
Marcelo

See my original post, have you tried setting TrayVisible=1 in the registry, this should show the system tray.
I followed exactly what u posted, it displayed it correctly the first time, then after soft reset it was displaying only the softkeys bar and hiding the system tray bar
Thks anyway
How does this look on screens BESIDES the today screen? I have used other programs on different WM phones in the past and although the bottom bar disappears on the today screen, it is still on other screens.
Also, can you use the bottom of the screen or is it just dead space? Some of us have moved the HTC Home Plug to the bottom of the page and if it is just dead space, it is going to look bad....

The menu bar is visible on other screens, this behaviour is by design. I cannot see why anybody would want it invisible on other screens, as you normally need those softkeys for menus in most programs!
As far as I know you can use the bottom of the screen, it is not dead space. But why not try it out - it's unlikely to do any harm. You can always delete it from your startup directory to uninstall if you don't want it.

Well it works well so far.....(Not my screen, Neo's screen @ HoFo)
I can't remember if the TrayVisible setting even works - I think it was something I was intending to build in, but never got around to it.
Apologies... I'm kinda programming again, had lots going on, so never finished the app. Sorry for you guys having to use my unfinished piece of cr*p. I'll make it work properly one day!

I installed this, but I don't know how to get into the registry from an .exe file, so I just tried to open the file through my phone, and instead it has hidden my start bar, as well as the bottom bar. How do I reverse this???

How did you "move" the HTC Home plugin to the bottom part of the Today-screen without any plugin above it? I searched all over the forums, but I cannot find the answer to this question

Use the HTC Home customizer to "unlock" it. Then you can move it around like normal.
However, it doesn't redraw correctly on the right side if you unlock it, and a scrollbar comes and goes.
i have a other solution!! PCM shrink installe it and your bar remove it s very easier! For become to the original config juste delete the programmz!!
won't stick
Hi..very nice and easy Zip File..just one problem: the toggle won't stick after a soft reset = one has to go into File Explorer..double click the Toggle File and only than the screen is "clean" again.
Any way to make the toggle "stick"?
I have not this problem! I install the cab i going on the explorer and today shrink and clik on after i reboot my pda ans the bar not appear ... You can try put a abbreviated of today skrink in WINdows/started for star the application automatic on windows sartup
the result of the appl:
I have this running at startup on my Tilt, works with screen rotations and everything! And the hard keys are still mapped to calendar and contacts for quick access, awesome.
Many thanks, couldn't stand those useless soft keys before.

Here is a simple theme for PocketCM to match the graphics of the HTC Touch
Attached is my skin for the keyboard (post #2) and my theme for the contact app (end of this post)
Go HERE if you want to see the screenshot in your browser instead of in a .zip (it is too large to upload here as an image)
Bubble update:
............Post #9 Gradient with arrows (GA)
............Post #10 No Gradient with arrows (NGA)
............Post #11 No Gradient No Arrows (NGNA)
Slight update:
.............fixed battery icon when depleted
.............fixed unreadsms icon
.............changed cell signal graphic
Hints about this Contact theme:
............ to go back a page, hold the upper right hand corner (where the OK icon is)
............ to exit when the OK icon is visible in the upper right hand corner, tap (do not hold) that same corner
There are three versions - the only difference is the sms panel view:
............ htctoucher Touch.zip (in the preview this is the screenshot with nothing written in the smsbox)
............ htctoucher Touch sms box.zip (in the preview this is the screenshot with "Old SMS Box" written in the sms box)
............ htctoucher Touch smspanel.zip (in the preview this is the screenshot with "Old SMS Panel" written in the sms box)
If you want this with an index on the right like the HTC Touch default contacts has, check out post #6
And there you have it!
Enjoy!
htctoucher
I may be updating the SMS Panel version to have my usual bubbles from my 16 variant theme (not sure yet)
I am not sure what the cell signal icon looks like.. as I havent tested that yet (it is small so that the titles of the pages can fit within the given space)
htc touch keyboard skin
And here is my keyboard skin
There are two versions
1. with (first screenshot) - you can see that next to the letter "a" and "l" there are faux letter buttons (they do not do anything when pressed, but give the keyboard more of a complete feel)
2. without (third screenshot) - this does not have the faux letter buttons, as you will see when comparing the two screenshots
to get your keyboard to have the same layout and look exactly the same, drag both files in whichever .zip you choose to use into your PCMKeyboard folder on your device, and then choose those files in the keyboard's options menu
enjoy!
htctoucher
wow very cute.. lol thank you very much
Cool, thanks. I am going to try it out as I am always in search of the 'prefect' virtual keyboard.
I am like Indiana Jones....and the valley of the QWERTY typos.
man i love this keyboard. u make the most pimped keyboards and pocketcm themes bro.
Index
Here it is with an index:
Why is it that when the letter confirmation image ("feedback") comes up, the letter is half cut off? For example when i press r, the little "r" image comes up above the letter to let me know that i am pressing "r", however that image is half cut off, so that i only see half an r. Is this normal? This didnt happen with the skin i was previously using. I am using the .skin and .layout file.

Number of characters in SMS and first line of notes and OK-Button
Hello htctoucher,
i really like your theme!
But there are some little bugs i've noticed:
1: The "characters left" (160/160) in the SMS Chat doesn't seem to change while typing. Only after a "pop-up" of the PocketCM-Keyboard apears over it, the display at this place is changed. Maybe its a bug of PocketCM.
2.: The first line of the contact-notes seems to be covered by the infobar.
3.: The OK-button in the contact-notes doesn't work. To get back to the contact details screen, I've to wipe over the screen.
I'm using PocketCM V0.21
and PocketCM Keyboard V0.14
Thanks for your reply!
Where do i extract this theme?
Just wanna add that I think your themes are awesome. Been using them for 5 mins and love the look and layout.

This is known bug, but easy to work around. The character counter is accurate for about the first 50 or so characters, after that you may notice it stops counting. If this occurs, just click on the sms bubbles to hide the keyboard. The counter will update. Then you can click back into the SMS Box to start typing again. It doesnt bother me that much and i like that it is above the box where you type, but havent found a fix.
2.: The first line of the contact-notes seems to be covered by the infobar.

I was not aware of that, if I get time I will update this theme to fix that. In the mean time if I interpret what you are saying correctly, I am sure you can just hit the enter key on the keyboard a few times until you can see what you are typing!
3.: The OK-button in the contact-notes doesn't work. To get back to the contact details screen, I've to wipe over the screen.

For some reason this is like that on all the themes, I suspect it is a bug with the application. Pressing "OK" saves the notes, but does not exit them. If you want to save what you have written, press OK, then Cancel. If you want to discard your changes only press Cancel.
hope that helps!

Download the .zip file you want to use and just place the whole thing in your PocketCM Contacts folder on your device, but do not take any of the files out of the .zip!

Wonderful job, but don't work with my HTC Diamond and his VGA screen... (((
im havin trouble installing the skins and themes...can u help me out???
Hi All,
Here is the latest iContact ender's edition. As much as I would like to keep my own branch of the source code I would hate to rewrite the same functionality written by burt or subpro. That is why right now I am just implementing my changes to the latest version of iContact with most functionality.
Known issues
- Included VGA skin is just the resize of QVGA. It has some problems with small dial icons. I am hoping someone can post a VGA skin so I can include in the next version.
- Scroll sometimes slow down while hiding the bottom menubar.
- You might need to tap twice to open a contact.
Requests
- Can someone post screenshots plz.
- Current mobile, home, office icons are from original WM. They look ok but I'm sure one of you gfx talents can come up with smtg much better.
Version History
1.03
Feature : It is now based on Burt 6 codebase (Thanks to Burt). This brings all his features. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402724 for his updates. Also please thank him for what he has done.
Feature : Displayed default number is now smarter. iContact will scan your outgoing call log the first chance it gets and use the most used number as default displayed number.
Feature : There is now a menu button animation while switching tabs. (See the configuration application for disabling/adjusting this)
Feature : Bottom menu now automatically hides while scrolling. (See the configuration application for disabling/adjusting this)
Feature : Call button (green soft button) will now call the selected contact
Modified : It comes with a default (and only) diamond skin which is based on Lycox's work. (Sorry Punker I was going to use your skin but since I switchted to burt's code skin format has changed as well )
Modified : Call times show next to the icon instead of on top of the icon
Fix : When you go back from the details page, that contact will be highlighted
Fix : Fixed a bug where having only one call log item would crash
1.02
Feature : It is now based on the 0.76 codebase of subpro. This brings many features like VGA support and all that. See
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395829 for his updates. Also please thank/donate him if you like his work.
Feature : Number of repeated calls (incoming/outgoing/missed) is now shown as part of the icon as a small number in a circle (Sorry I broke the skins again fellas)
Feature : A default phone number will now show under the name (You can disable this using the setting DisableDialingNumber in settings.ini) (You can set the font of this number using "DialingNoListFont" and color using "ListItemNumberText" setting in the skn file.)
Feature : An icon showing the type of number will show next to the default number (You can disable this using the setting DisableDialingNumberIcon)(These icons are again part of the skin)
Feature : When you long press a contact for a period of time (setting LongTapDelay) , it will automatically dial the default number for that contact. (Disable using DisableLongTapAction)
Feature : There is a visual indicator for long pressing to show when the dial will occur and which contact will be dialed.
Feature : There is now a minimize button on the top right. Again this is in the skin file. If you don't like it just remove it from the skin.
Feature : There is now a new setting in the skin file "HeaderTextDetail" for those who want to have a different colored header on the details screen.
Fix : Fixed a bug where contact pictures didn't show even when stopped
Fix : Fixed an issue with drawing pictures that slowed down the drawing. However there is still some screen tearing going on due to new icons and stuff.
Fix : It now works with WM5
Note : There are 2 different cabs for wm5 an wm6. wm5 version also works on wm6 but i think it performs slower.
1.01
Feature : Contact Pictures will now display below a certain scroll velocity. So now you can have best of both worlds: Fast scroll speed and contact pictures. Velocity treshold can be set in the ini file with "PictureVelocityTreshold"
Feature : Width of the hidden scroll bar that is used to navigate between letters are now configurable in the SKIN file. Keyword "InvisibleScrollbarWidth"
Modified : I changed the versioning scheme so there is no confusion between diffferent iContact flavors
Modified : Back button and '+' button click areas are now bigger.
Fix : Fixed a memory leak which eventually crashed the application
Fix : Fixed an issue where black colors on contact pictures would show as background color
Fix : Fixed a bug where scrolling would sometimes jump to the end of contact list
0.76f
Feature: There are now 2 configuration settings (DisableContactPictures and DisableHistoryIcons). Add a line saying "DisableContactPictures=1" (without quotes) to the end of the settings.ini if you dont want to see pictures.
Modified: Hidden scroll bar for scrolling between letters is now wider
Fix : Fixed the problem with the skin so + sign should now be visible
0.76e
Feature : Contact Pictures on Contacts and Favorites List
Feature : Call History now shows icons next to items to indicate if it is a missed, incoming or outgoing call
Feature : Contacts and Favorites will now only load when the application starts and whenever there is a change in contact list (internal or external) (Instead of loading everytime you switch a tab)
Feature : Call log will now only load when the application starts and whenever there is a change in the call log
Feature : While loading contacts or call log it will now show an hourglass to show that it is doing something.
Feature : iContact now comes with a default diamond skin (Thx to lyrox)
Modified : Enlarged the area that can be clicked on top right. Closing / Minimizing the application should now be much easier.
Modified : Taping once during scrolling will now just stop the scrolling, you need to tap again to access contacts.
Modified : Since there are now icons, I removed missed called highlight
Modified : '+' sign that is used to add new contacts is now on the left to prevent accidental clicking to close
Fix : Fixed a bug where clicking Recents would sometimes crash the application

tnx man very nice app!!
you modifite like i want to!!!
sorry for my bad english!!
works on vga but all seems so little!
is there any vga skin?
Thanks,
working nice, but I don't see any plus icon on the upper left side?
Works great!!
I dont see how to add new contact though.......also, is it possible to have the 4th icon dial voicemail instead of going to your phone??
great work on icontact, i may try the new version as im more concerned about performance but hopefully its worth the upgrade
edit: where is the performance version?
I would like a light colored skin. Top bar same as S2*** stuff but with a white back ground maybe a little iphonish but not to much. Does anybody know where I can find one?
Thanks.
the changes are wonderful....the stopping by clicking and the log icons..... but there are 2 problems in my eyes:
1. I think the photos in the list are pointless - they are not REALLY needed. the whole point of icontact was to keep it fast and to take less memory. it changes the loading time and makes the program heavier.
2. The scrolling is much much slower and unstable than in 0.75
thanks for the hard work.
awesome job! thanks
This is so freakin phenomenal!!
Maybe 3 suggestions, but only from the stand point of desire not lack of talent!!! Could you add it sort by Category? And could you place a button on the Recent page that launches the sms application of choice like the phone button launches cprog.exe???? Finally, I would like to know how to change the width of the hidden alphabet selector on the right side. I need a little more pixel width for my thumbs.
Thanks again
sounds great, trying it now
many thanks!!!

For some reason the + sign doesnt show up. I will fix this in the next version (which will be very soon). In the meantime just imagine the + sign is there on the top left of contact list screen title bar and press. It is working just the graphics is not there.
As for the 4th icon i will consider something more useful or configurable for a future version.

Sorting by category is not very easy. iContact has no category support yet when/if this is added I will consider.
I am not sure where on recent pages i can put sms application link.
When you say alphabet selector do you mean the button that opens up the alphabet or the buttons on the alphabet screen. Alphabet screen is already full I dont think you can put any more than that. As for the launching button, it is configurable.

icontact does have category support. I have a version that does it. I like yours better however. On the recent calls page there is an open spot to the far right on the tab bar. The alphabet search page itself is fine, I was speaking of the hidded bar on the right side that you can press and hold to bring up the letters and then scroll to jump to the one you want.

I see what you mean. I havent decided what to do with that space. There are several things that might go there such as settings button or categories list. I think that space is too valuable to put an sms button I almost never just open an sms link. Instead I find the contact I want to send SMS and then click the sms button on the details page.

It is not configurable, it is hardcoded in the code as 20pixels. I will increase it to 30 in the next version
ive been trying to figure out how to do this for a loooong time. i use pcm keyboard with an iphone skin and its HUGE. it plus the bottom bar take up more than half the screen. plus its easier to type/know where the letters are if the keyboard is all the way on the bottom. i use a hardware key to toggle the sip so i don't need the bottom bar to disable the sip. anybody know if its physically possible to hide the bottom bar when the sip is active (or make the sip cover the bottom bar)???
Edit (11/21/2008):
if anyone is interested in this i might have some info you might find useful:
when i use the attached .tsk file, the behaviour of my tob and bottom bars becomes completely unpredictable. basically i end up with a combination one of the following combinations:
-normal topbar
-no topbar
-"transparent" topbar (so that i see the top few pixels of my spb mobile shell theme)
and..
-normal bottom bar
-no bottom bar
-bottom bar on which the keyboard overlays (when activated) << this is the original desired effect!
see the attached images for examples
i can't just keep this theme because behaviour is unpredictable and sometimes causes freezing. Also, choosing a different theme returns the bars to normal behaviour.
other info: i have t-mobile wing and use an open touch v6 rom, spb mobile shell w/ a greatbal diamond theme, and s2u2.
That's my problem too.

Never heard on anything that will do this. But it's a very good idea.
vijay555 made an tool called today toggle that did that on the today screen (I don't know if it hid the softkeys when the today screen did not have focus). It was originally written for WM2003. I have not seen much about it in a long time. Try checking his website http://www.vijay555.com
i did read alot about VJ's todaytoggle but i assumed and other people confirmed that it only works on the today screen. i guess ill play around with it when i get a chance and report back here

VJToggle only hides on today screen. I wish someone can come up with a way of hiding these things other than today screen!
thanx for the replies
yea VJ's tool only works on the today screen. i wouldve thought that someone would have already made this possible but it seems very few ppl have even thought about it. im sure one of the developers here can make this happen!!

Hi
I have a problem.
I want to install secondtoday and homescreen ++ (both the latest versions) on my Touch HD. But as soon as I start the cab the installation stops and it says that cab couldnt be installed.
Does anybody know why this happens?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know about homescreen, but I just installed SecondToday 0.40 and it works fine. I'm not sure, but perhaps it requires something else like .net3.5 (which I've loaded) to work. I've attached the .cab that I used.
Ok, thanks a lot! I could install it! Strange, I used the file on the homepage of the developer.
Can you tell me how I can insall Icons on the secont today screen? Now it is all empty. Under start -> settings I see a second today icon but I cant open it, is it normal?

just hold your stylus down on the blank screen for a few seconds, and it will pop up the configuration page.

Hehe thanks man! I managed to set up some infos on the second today screen. I also see the battery status in % in the upper bar. But always when I am leave the secondtoday screen by pressing the left softkey "Today1" to return to the touchflo today screen the battery status in % disabbears in the upper bar. Only if I leave the second today screen by clicking on "ok" in the upper right corner I can leave it without turning of the % battery status.
So my question is:
How can I set the phone up to be able to always see the % in the upper bar also when I leave the secondtoday by clicking on the softkey "Today1"?
And is there a chance to change the battery icon in the upper bar? Right now the layout is sort of crappy. The %-show and the battery-icon are overlapping.
Ascenca
Got it by myself
Does somebody know how to chance the icon of the battery in the upper taskbar? Dont like the look of the standardone (without colorchange when batterycharge lowers). Somewhere in the xda forum I saw a todayscreen in which the battery-icon changed his look while the charge lowered (green to yellow to orange to red or so).
Hope someone can help! Thanks!
