Hello,
I just bought a new myTouch 3G (T-Mobile USA) which has the perfect SPL. I want to root my phone and I am new to Linux. I have collected a lot of information about rooting the perfect SPL phone.
One thing is not yet clear to me is how to back up the stock ROM that came with the phone so that I can unroot it later, if need be. There are a lot warnings of doing backups before rooting. But no descriptions about how to go about doing it.
What I want to do is backup my stock ROM as the first step before I do anything. I understand that I need to downgrade my ROM to Cupcake before I can root my phone. But, before I replace my stock ROM (Donut?) with Cupcake, I want to backup my stock ROM. How can I do it?
There is a step of doing a backup using the Flashrecovery after I have downgraded to Cupcake. But, at that point, am I not backing up the older version of the ROM?
Thanks for your help in this regard.

Hello everyone!
I've had my mytouch 3g since preorders were available and I rooted my phone the day the first root was released. Since that day, I have been though many of moded roms and other system modifications that I would like to "reset" my phone the way I first bought it. Is this possible? To completely clear the memory, unroot it, revert the radio, and get the stock tmobile rom?
Thanks in advance!

hi how are you guys...i just bought this phone and have couple of question..first one...my software version is 2.2 is there anyway i can root the phone anybody have the instruction step by step how to root with the files which i needed...second question is when i go software update from my phone its says i have update for 2.3 gingerbread should i update it from phone or manually do it...any help will be appreciate and please reply soon...
thank you
If you are planning to root and go for custom roms etc then do not update with any official firmware. Head over to the Development forum for all you need to know on rooting, s-off, eng-off etc.
can i use visiionary tool to root or not....do i have downgrade from 2.2 to what....and then root
As mentioned above, go to Development and there you will find detailed stepbystep instructions how to downgrade first and than how to root your phone. Do not install automatic upgrade to 2.3 because it will be harder (not impossible) to root your phone (I learned it hard way after making official upgrade, but my phone is rooted and working well)

Warranty, well yes. But you can always gain back your warranty by flashing stock ROM. And IMEI you won t lose, if you follow the steps of flashing correctly.
If you want to backup apps and data that you have, then root your phone and use titanium backup. And if you do decide to root. Also do backup your IMEI. All the tutorials are there in the roll up thread in the development section.
Live free flash hard.
good, but i bought my phone from t-mobile macedonia.. they have modifed roms with some of their logos how to back up that rom?
you can backup by using Clock Work Mod recovery but you have to install that first. but it will backup the custom recovery with it or you can output your rom with kitchen v2.0 or 3.0.
I know your feeling i was also afraid for my first flash.. I first flashed euro 2.2 stock rom and then kryllios non oc and it was a great feeling look up on youtube how to dump your current(backup)

Hey guys i want to install a custom rom for my t00j-d. I searched about unlocking bootloader and things like that but i couldnt find something useful. First off all i have latest stock rom (lolipop) and its not rooted so do i have to root my device first then unlock bootloader then flash rom? And which rom is good at the moment? My priorities are battery life > performance > visual.
thanks for reading and answers

i have been looking around and can not find any info on what i want to do. so i am just going to ask and see if anyone can help. hope ive come to the right place.
about a year ago i purchased a blu studio 6.0 hd(d651u). it came stock with kk(4.2.2 i believe. can confirm if needed.) i pulled the stock firmware using droid tool. so i do have the original rom and scatter file. the lollipop update was available so i updated. afterwards i ran the updated rom through SuperRs rom kitchen, rooted, de-odexed, debloated... afterwards when i was theming the apks and was almost satisfied, i dropped the phone and it broke.. so i purchased another one. same make same model(d651u). only thing i see any different is that this new one came stock with the same lollipop rom that my old phone had updated to. so my question is this. can i use the stock rom and scatter file that i got from my original device to restore the device i have now in case anything goes wrong. im trying to find out if i can safely skip the whole rom pull step and jump right into getting my custom rom onto my NEW phone. i know i can use my old rom, i just wonder if i would be able to restore a brick with my original rom pull because they are the same device, just manufactured at different times. any feed back would be GREATLY appreciated. thank you

no, you should not use the backup from another phone to restore your new one. and you should post in the section for blu studioinstead of here, the info you get here might be inaccurate
Hello guys. I am tired of flashing custom roms, I dont care if chinese apps will bloat my phone, I just want to restore the phone to its original state and hope for the best (maybe OTA updates will be available, no idea). So is there a way to restore the phone the way I received it at day one?
